Plus, if you watch the first episode you can see that he didn’t know he was in the ice for 100 years. AND ALSO, HE’S AN AIR NOMAD. AIR NOMADS ARE TAUGHT TO NOT KILL BY THE MONKES. THEY ARE TAUGHT THAT VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER.
Amon is kind of like Azula. They both are prodigies in their respective element. They also both carried the burden of all the expectations and demands their fathers put on them, just like Tarrlok said about his brother.

Errrrr... Azula was evil and sort of knew she was evil even by fire nation standards. I don't think Amon thinks he's evil.
Azula was a prodigy like Ozai and too proud and evil as she could get. Noatak was kind loving individual and a prodigy like Yakone, but Noatak wanted his brother treated fairly and equally. In the end, he and his younger became a damaged individuals because of their abusive crime lord father.
Except azula was a psychopath. But amon wasnt. He had his own philosophy of how things should be. He didnt do his things for the sake of evilness unlike azula. He actually thought what he was doing was right

one thing that restores my faith in humanity is how everyone gets fire up over how mako treated asami in this season lol
Mako had feelings for both Asami and Korra, and didn't know how to deal with or resolve it. This resulted in him doing things that hurt people he cared about. I'm not saying he didn't royally fuck up, I'm not saying it isn't his fault. I'm just saying that I can understand where the mistakes came from. It isn't that he had any desire to hurt anyone, he's just a fuck up when it comes to these things.

Aang taking bending away was a stronger form than the way amon does it.
Amon doesn't really take away bending. He's only chi blocking the benders, only it's an advanced chi block. The one that stays permanent.
Waterbenders who are healers can see the network of chi paths inside a bender's body. They can see it's all connected to air chakra or earth chakra or fire or water chakra. Amon uses his healing skills to see this, and bloodbending skill to cut/destroy chi paths to the chakra. Since that would stop all the chi flow, it would stop all the bending. And since chi paths don't heal naturally, their bending doesn't come back when amon cuts their chi paths.
So if you open up your chakras like Aang did with Guru Pathik can you get your bending back after Amon "took" it away?

Imagine chakra is a heart and chi paths are blood vessels. If you cut the bloodvesels at heart, there would be no blood flow. Similarly, chi flow gets halted completely when amon cuts the connection to chakra from the rest of the body. No chi, no bending. Just like a chi blocker.

Chi paths don't naturally heal the way wounds on your body can. That's why katara cannot heal korra's bending back. When aang later comes and saves korra, he heals korra's chipaths to chakras through bending energy. He isn't using water healing, he isn't giving back stolen bending. He's only reorganizing the chi paths back into its original place.
He performed it on korra, as a healer she could see what aang did and since she just unlocks avatar state after her bending is healed, she can energybend too because she's got control over avatar state now. Only physical control but she got that. So she's able to restore everyone's bending because she can energybend now.
If y’all remember in the bloodbending episode in atla katara was also able to resist Hamas bloodbending because she was stronger than her. Same with Amon and tarrlok. Amon just stronger so he was able to resist

I love the point you made about even when people are all nonbenders there will still be conflict because that’s the world we actually live in. Amon says “bending has been the cause of every war in every era,” and we know that’s not true because we live in a world without bending and have had wars all over the globe since as far back as we can remember.
Clues to Amon identity that were given in previous episodes/ show.
1) We know for the Puppet master episode of ATLA a more powerful waterbender can break out of another's hold. Which is why Amon could do the same in ep 9.
2) Whenever Korra got a flashback of Aang, it was right after she had a confrontation with a child of Yakone. First couple after facing Amon. The last after she fought Tarrlok. While she put together the connection with Yakone and Tarrlok, she didn't think about when she had the earlier visions.

The first time korra challenged amon he showed up with an army of ty lees, in the dark, while she was afraid of him and they all sneaked up on her.
Against tarrlok she had him but then bloodbending is too op.
She can take amon who is a nonbender if she goes in with a plan and some support. That's why she decides to confront him at the start.

he uses bloodbending to chi block someones insides, like tylee did it physically on the outside so it was temporary. Not with amon.
I think they hinted this in episode 3. We know his henchman are chiblockers who take bending away temporary. But amon says "i took you bending away" (nobody cares). And then he says "permanently" and everyone is in shock
I think the way Amon "takes bending away" is by bloodbending a blockage in the chi path or brain function that allows benders to use their bending. Like turning off the muscle memory or something. Similar to how the chi blockers temporarily block bending.
Aang learned to take away peoples bending through the lion that showed up at the end of the last Airbender series, Aang addressed the deity like a god so of course Aangs method is stronger.
I wonder if Hama is an ancestor of Yakone, Amon and Tarrlok.

The scene with the planes taking out the ships is how it really works. There's a reason why as soon as planes started dropping bombs, navies quit using dreadnought-class ships.

Amon's plan isn't to take everyone's bending away, because that would be kinda impossible. He wants to make bending ilegal, and if someone opposes him, he will take their bending away. That way, even if the children of the ones he took the bending away would be benders, they will live in a world where everyone is afraid to use their bending.

While I believe it's never fully confirmed in canon, you can deduce how Amon takes away people's bending from context:
Chi Blockers can temporarily disable bending via damage to specific points, disrupting the flow of spiritual energy in a person's body. Blood Bending controls the very body of a person. While it is a very delicate and and precise procedure, a strong enough blood bender should be able to inflict permanent damage/scarring to those spots, blocking the flow indefinitely - similar to Aang's back scar that cut him off from the Avatar State. That takes *a lot* of focus and control though, which is why even Amon can only do it when the person is sitting still and he is in direct contact with them.
energy bending through blood bending is like this- energy bending decreases or increases the flow of chi through the chakras. Noatak used blood to create blocks in the chakras and then removes it. It therefore decreases the flow as when the blood is inside the chakras, he uses it to change the width of the chakra and minor chi paths or something like that. when chi flow is increased like that, it forcefully increases the width of the chi paths and the chakras. If you are confused, you can say that the chakras are the main pools of energy and chi paths are very small vessels like blood vessels. The vessels are very thin and un large numbers.

When Aang went into the avatar state and broke free from Yakomes blood bending grip, does that show aang could blood bend if he wanted to.
Personally I think aang could do it, but never did because of the morals he learned as a monk. For example, aang knew how to redirect lightning but purposely shot the lightning to the sky.
I don't think so I think it's only water benders because they draw power from the moon aang is an Airbender who has the other elements yes but it can only be done if you were born as an water bender I think Korra can tho
nah Aang is a pretty good waterbender but nowhere near as talented as Katara, let alone Amon. But that doesn't mean an Avatar *can't* learn it though.

I think with the Avatar state, all types of bending are possible. I kinda wish we could see an avatar doing all the sub-bending like metalbending, lightning, and bloodbending while in the avatar state.

Amon's ability to take bending away is a fusion of bloodbending, chiblocking, and water healing. Just like chiblockers can inhibit bending by hitting chi spots in the body, Amon is able to do it internally and seal it completely

Personal theory: Noatak/Amon's ability to take away bending is using bloodbending to make a permanent version of Chi-blocking. It's like creating a permanent disability. However it is that Chi-blocking prevents bending, Noatak figured out how to turn that temporary block into a permanent one.
So the idea is that Amon is basically using bloodbending in people's brains to create some kind of mental block. It's not like what Aang can do. Their bending is still there, but they can't access it. And it seems like Amon probably practiced the technique for years. I don't think anyone else would be capable of it.
with my theory blood bending taking bending away probably has something to do with chi or pressure points.

Ya the relationship drama was definitely the weak points of this show. Kinda hard to like one of the main characters when he acts like a douchebag with women repeatedly
true he was so bad that both his exes turned 😂😂😂 but still LOK didn't deserve the hate it got. It's a very good show overall, not as good as ATLA but it doesn't have to be. It's a solid show on its own.

@Katara161096 i saw season 2 as her biggest develepmont. She just had overcome the reality of being the avatar and now in season 2 she has to be the avatar as a diplomat. She is a fighter and not a talker. But as a avatar she still had to take that mantle. Of course she would make dumb choises but it would be unrealistic if she always chose the right thing

I used to be on the hate train as well but after rewatching it since I last saw it, I was surprised why I discredited it as much as I did back then. Yeah it'll never surpass ATLA, but it doesn't have to. It's still a very good story overall and an awesome sequel to Aang's story whilst not over relying on it to become good. World building is very good and the new characters are interesting. Book One is very solid 🔥 Also, I was JUST like you who found Meelo annoying at first but trust me he'll quickly grow on u and by S2 he has become one of my fav characters.
If ATLA got a solid 10/10 in our hearts, Korra gets a solid 8.5 for me 🔥 nowhere near as hated as it got. Book 3 is still the best imho (and from what I've seen it's even praised more than ATLA's last season). Book 1 and 4 are close seconds (especially Book 4 highlighting metal bending).
Korra Book 1 was so well written. It's a shame that they had to make it 1 season because the studio didn't plan to make a full series about Korra.
Then we had Book 2 3 and 4 which in my opinions were pure trash.
