Something to remember about the characters: Aang was a world traveler and master of spiritual philosophy by the age of 12. Korra lived in one White Lotus training compound until age 17. She literally knows nothing except how to fight good. Prepare for a lot of stupid sheltered teenager mistakes.
She knows alot mote than that, and she didn't make that many mistakes. She's just not that great at sociaizing.

Important note about Legend of Korra. Nickelodeon commisioned individual seasons, so the stories all have to wrap up in one season because the creators didn't know if they'd get another one each time. Judge each by their own merits

This is actually a common misconception, while they chose to go season by season. From the beginning Bryke knew that it would likely be several mini series. During the first season of production they got green lit for all 4, but decided to to keep it seasonal

Just this episode alone, we can see the difference in fighting techniques. Korra is exactly the opposite of Aang. Korra is already willing to fight head on. Her fighting already shows it's on the Offensive side during her battle with the Triple Triads. On the other hand, Aang uses a defensive fighting technique. He avoids conflict at all times and only fights if he has to, dealing minimalistic damages. His movements are so airy that even Toph wasn't able to land a hit on him lol.
Aang is Obi Wan and Korra is Anakian
Aang is a diplomat, Korra is a warrior. They’re totally clashing personalities are what make me love her as a character

this is pretty important because the show makes a statement from the very beginning. this is a new show and its better that you accept that and appreciate it for what it is without constantly comparing it to aang's story, which makes both shows better in the long run.

This is a good show, it just had the worst luck with not only being screwed by Nickoledeon with weird scheduling but ATLA is a really tough act to follow. I appreciate LOK for what it is but ATLA is still the GOAT for me.
I would actually say LoK is a great show, not just a good one. Korra's journey is far more impactful to me than Aang's was in ATLA, though perhaps ATLA has it beat on side characters. LoK also has in my mind (and many others) the best antagonist and the best single season (Change), and works and builds on themes from ATLA.

Korra's a big departure from Aang. Where he was clever, spiritual, and diplomatic she is confident, decisive, and combative. Where he struggled with underconfidence, embracing his destiny, and decisiveness she struggles with overconfidence, an assumption of inevitable destiny, and spirituality. Where he had clearly traveled the world even before being trapped in the iceberg she has never left that little patch of land in the South Pole nor fought someone outside of controlled circumstances under the White Lotus.
I adore Korra as a character, even more than I do Aang. Just be mindful of the ways their journeys diverge and that she is ultimately not him, nor should she be.

@@ethanlibera4876 Personal preference, honestly. Aang is wonderful but Korra's struggles, especially the serious ones late in the show, landed for me on a personal level. I never connected as well with Aang as I did with her. I have no issue with anyone who feels different.

I’m so glad you pointed this out. I won’t spoil the future events, so I’ll just say that Korra gets a lotta hate for the decisions she makes in the show and for not being like Aang, but then I ask: the majority of Avatars before Aang weren’t like Aang either, at least personality wise, so why should Korra get hate for maintaining that same criteria?! She’s different and arguably one of the greatest Avatars as the series progresses (and I won’t say why that is because that statement will accentuate more via a specific progression in Book 3 that I won’t spoil for them, but you can probably figure out). Plus, as a character, she’s awesome and definitely the kinda friend who has your back in some of the worse situations. If I had one complaint, it’s that she currently doesn’t have much usage in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and is in C-tier or below in multiple tier lists I’ve seen recently. I don’t even own the game as of now and I was definitely considering making her my main simply because I have a huge fondness for her.

I hope you enjoy TLOK guys, I really like her character so much, even though she is a teenager and makes bad choices, she sometimes remind me of angsty Zuko, and, similarly to him, she learns and grow a lot.
Also, please keep in mind that N*ckelodeon complicated the production of the show, with a lot of ups and downs in budget and scheduling, so you'll find that the plot and graphics weaken sometimes. My girl had to face not only her enemies but the channel decisions as well.

The era now is like the 1920s-1930s. If you think about how advance the Fire Nation’s tech was the add 70 years and the tech being available to everyone instead of just the Fire Nation, it’s bound to advance quickly. Similar to the industrial revolution.

You should know that the original idea for this show was for it to finish after 1 season so it finishes a little weird but its still great.

- Naga is a Polar Bear Dog
- Bumi is named after King Bumi
- Kya is named after Katara's mother (And it was Katara's name in the pilot, but they changed it to Katara for the show.)
- Tenzin is named after the current Dalai Lama. His name is Tenzin Gyatso (Yes like Monk Gyatso)
- The show takes place 70 years after the 100 year war and Avatar The Last Airbender ended.
- Avatar Aang had to have passed away for Avatar Korra to be born.
- Aang passed away aged 66 (166)
- Korra is 17
- Katara is 85

To answer your "idk why people are complaining about this show", You have to realize that OG Avatar fans had to wait 4 years before this came out. I find the people who didn't have to wait 4 years seem to like it a lot more. Also, OG Avatar fans kept comparing the show to Airbender. It's it's own show with it's own vibe. If you can judge it as it's own show, it's a good show. If you keep comparing it to Airbender, you might have a hard time getting into it. It's not Airbender. It's Korra!

So the reason the animation is so crisp is because LoK wasn't _technically_ made by the same studio as ATLA. The animation director for ATLA and a bunch of other vets started a new studio called Studio Mir, and this was their first job. They came out the gate _hungry_

The legend of korra is so good! You're going to love it!
Korra often gets a lot of flak in the community for the way she handles things or her capabilities, but I think her own way of development through the series is so great. Obviously nothing will ever top ATLA but Korra is way better than some people make her to be. Both Avatars have way different paths to walk and the writers handled them so well!

11:40 So I'm finally here and time to start Korra reactions so facts;
Story of Zuko mom, what happend to Azula after the war, making the Republic City and a few more things are revealed in the comics which take place between Aang and Korra.
Literally they start when Aang and Katara kiss. I won't spoiler them, but they are great and if you could do something like reading-reaction (Yup, this is a thing) it would be great. It has many great plot twists and you can feel Avatar spirit from them

Korra is hard headed, stubborn, incredibly strong, and relies on her brain and brute force. But she has also been sheltered inside of a compound for 17 years and knows nothing of the outside world or how to interact. This show requires…patience lmao she has to learn
I am so glad you are doing Korra. It is worth it. It is very different than the Last Airbender nad that throws some people. It gets very dark at times. One scene made television history.
And you are going to LOVE the Pro Bending Arena.
Another thing about this series. When something seems a bit odd (like how protective they are of Korra), the answer very likely will be revealed in another season.

I hope you guys enjoy the show. Korra is 17. Remember normally they let the person know they are the Avatar when they turn 16 but she always knew so she got a bigger jump on her training than Aang or Roku. The show was originally only supposed to be one season but was later extended to four. However Nickelodeon screwed the show over with releasing the episodes. They did the same think with Avatar: The Last Airbender where in the final season there were months between airing some of the episodes. They did Korra even worst. The final 2 seasons didn't even completely air on TV. They were released on their website long before streaming was a normal thing.
The show overall is good but it's not as good as ATLA in my opinion. While ATLA got better every season, Korra is bit of a rollercoaster story-wise.
Aang's daughter Kya was named after Katara's mother who bore this name.
Guys first and foremost I’ve loved these reactions and I’ve been keeping up for a few months now, I HIGHLY recommend if you find a way to read the comics that precede Legend of Korra that you do so because it bridges a lot of the technological and political gaps that one might have going from ATLA to LOK and explains and hints toward a lot of concepts and themes that you’ll see in this show. I actually just finished them myself for the first time last week and now Legend of Korra makes so much more sense
Although the story of comic books preceeds Korra, I would still suggest reading them after watching the show..

Legend of Korra is a spectacular sequel series to ATLA... so long as you can accept that it is not ATLA. Korra is a different character, the status of the world is different, and quite a lot of different themes are explored. If you can accept these things, and push past some of the weaker moments of the series in season 2, you will absolutely find this show to be a gem. I, and many others, think season 3 of Korra is the best Avatar season period, largely because it pulls off pretty much everything it tries to do - including paying off things from ATLA. While you are watching the show I encourage you to look at how the series uses the past, whether it be character cameos, history, or how it treats characters from ATLA in their adult lives. I think it is one of the more successful series in utilizing - but not overly relying on - its predecessor series. It'll be interesting to see if you feel the same by its conclusion. Enjoy!

Ozai may have had the best drip, but Korea’s villains are no joke and their politics have some real bite.
3 of them ended being hypocrits or just evil which is sad.

I hope you guys enjoy Korra as much as ATLA. Remember the setting of this world is takes place 70 years after the events of the original series. So the world has advanced to resemble the 1920's. Also, I think Aang passed away at the age of 65 years old. But technically he was 165 since was frozen in ice for like 100 years. I think the lore is that it took it's toll on his overall health long term.
