Nickelodeon really just had no faith in this series. I give Korra so much grace because of my admiration for Avatar, but there are legitimately some really great pieces in Korra. The emotions are all there, there are great characters, the setting and world building and progression of bending is great. The only genuine criticisms I could give Korra was the good/bad dichotomy when handling spirits and anything related to romance lol. But I feel like with a solid foundation and trust in the team, it so easily could have been up there with Avatar, but Nickelodeon just shot them in the foot every chance they possibly could.

Nickelodeon really did everything in their power to destroy this series. I don't understand how they could mismanage Avatar so badly. Its criminal that season 3, and 4 were pulled from the air, and only shown online at the end. Blows my mind. Korra series really should have been greenlite for 3 giant seasons of like 25 episodes each similar to Last Airbender.

That's why I tend to cut Korra some slack for its flaws and shortcomings. They didn't get behind it the way they did ATLA, which is just bizarre considering how universally beloved and successful that show was.

Probably one of the darkest endings ever. Besides the murder suicide, Korra looking straight over the edge and crying while believing she was irreparably broken always gave me the strong impression that she was thinking of doing something horrible to reset the Avatar cycle. Like, I'm not one of those "life begins at conception" people, but it's still strange to think the "reincarnation" of someone is in the very last days of their third trimester - essentially a fully-formed newborn - while the person they're a reincarnation of is still alive. I think it would have made more sense if there was a short gap between one avatar dying and the next one being conceived.

Can’t imagine even Katara would be able to do anything against his level of psychic bloodbending. She is of course, the better overall waterbender when it comes to the craft. But when it comes to bloodbending, no one is Amon’s equal and luckily it looks like no one will ever have to deal with it since they now eliminated the mutated gene completely.

It’s also not in Katara’s character to put that much time to work on the art of bloodbending, not she could surpass Amon at it.

    • @ogy19
      @ogy19 7 месяцев назад +7

I think when speaking about a "strongest waterbender" people should definitely exclude bloodbending as a factor, because whether you even want to bloodbend or not really depends on your morals and values. Also finding an ultimate bloodbender is not so hard because it isn't taught in school or anything, very few people even dare mess with it. Thats why i think that exact sub-bending art should not be a factor when talking about an ultimate waterbender. If we were to decide who the ultimate earthbender is tho one could count metalbending, lavabending etc. as factors because they are actually being taught and people don't see them as a "forbidden form" of earthbending.

It would be like trying to fight Darth Vader or an even more powerful version of Eleven from Stranger Things. It seems like he was quite capable at conventional waterbending as well, even though we barely get to see it. The the Tarrlok and Noatak scene in the boat is such an impactful scene to me, always look forward to reactors seeing this "murder-suicide in a Nickelodeon show". And must say, was not surprised it got you emotional too :P! Korra entering the Avatar State for the first time always hits me, especially paired with the music in that entire scene, so good!
On the topic of the love triangle, I never really liked it much, but also didn't really dislike/hate it. It's just there. What I do think is important to note, I don't think there is actually every any 'fighting over a boy'. Throughout the season, the drama has always been between either Korra and Mako or Asami and Mako. Korra disliked Asami to start with yes, but once they got to know each other a bit better in 1×7, there is no display of bad blood or fighting between the girls. Asami is only angry with Mako, and rightfully so, but never directs that at Korra. I think that's important to realise, and definitely the least bad way to do a love triangle. (The brothers did briefly fight over a girl, but luckily that was solved in a single episode.)
Sidenote, I think the 'I love you'-s also feel kinda forced, but the explanation for that is probably just that they thought they'd only have the one season when it was written.

Season 1 is a good standalone, but maybe weakest by comparison when it came to handling the conflict, particularly the post-season resolution. Amon has so many believe in his ideas only for pretty much having the ENTIRE movement dissipate because of his revelation. The "benders are oppressors" saga died down super quick. The creators had a lot to say with very few episodes though so I give it some slack. They finally get their footing season 3 and 4 though! To me, at least they are more complex than Ozai.

The end of season 1 truly is an insane ride. Amon’s big loss, the boat scene, Aang using and teaching her energybending, etc
I just wish the airbending unlock didn’t seem so easy. Aang’s line of “when we are at our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change” is such a great concept, but it feels like her desperation just happened to give her airbending, rather than her deciding to make a strong, previously difficult, mental change to suddenly click the airbending techniques she’d been learning. Instead, she just does some punches and kicks and the universe gives it to her. It was so close to being a really powerful character moment, but instead they had to move the plot along so that’s all we really got.

When Avatars connect to their previous lives and "talk" with them, that is a form of entering the Avatar State. In ATLA, Roku tells Aang that the Avatar State is a tool to - among other things - protect the Avatar when they are in danger.
Korra went to that cliff for a reason. The teardrop was the insinuation.
In her moment of greatest danger, the Avatar State activated and protected her. Not during the fight with Amon, because her life wasn't in danger.
The Avatar State protected Korra from *herself* on that cliffside.

Also, I just stopped to realized that NOBODY on NWT even suspected Yakone was doing something wrong. People would even consider him a kind and lovely father that goes hunting with his sons every full moon. What is scary about it is that we can meet people like that. True monsters are able to cloak in sheep's clothing.

  • @VegetaLF7

Now that the season is over we can finally talk about this. Essentially what Amon was doing to take away bending was using his blood bending to put a stronger block on the bender's chi, one that doesn't wear off unlike Ty Lee or Amon's chi blockers' methods of rapidly attacking their pressure points. He wasn't able to permanently strip it like Aang's energy bending of Ozai and Yakone's bending but it was a block that they couldn't remove. Fortunately Korra through Aang's unlocking and guidance of her Avatar powers was able to reverse it.
Huge respect for the Vox Machina callback and thus I have to have the obligatory "Keyleth is inspired by Aang's journey and Keyleth's mom was voiced by Korra's actress" comment given how much of a fan Keyleth's player Marisha Ray is of the Avatar series.
Aang appearing to Korra at the end is one of my favorite moments in the whole franchise. I'm a huge sucker for the previous Avatars appearing to current ones in times of need. Every time Roku and Kyoshi popped up for Aang was such a powerful moment and I love that Aang finally gets a chance to be there for the next generation. It's a cool implication across both shows that the previous Avatar is the primary spiritual guide for the next one, what with Roku being the main one to guide Aang and now Aang guiding Korra. It does make for the amusing realization that it means wise and peaceful Roku's guide was *Kyoshi.*
RIP to Amon, one of the best villains in the franchise. His voice actor Steve Blum (probably best known for his role as Spike on Cowboy Bebop, though he was also the voice of Tom on Cartoon Network's Toonami programming block back in the day) gave him a powerful presence and I love how he was actually a threat. Ozai and Azula were great villains for the more child focused Avatar, but with the more teen/young adult focus of Korra it is great to have a more complex villain with Amon and his Equalists. Outright killing him in the end was a bold choice, *especially* for a cartoon on Nickelodeon.
Looking forward to continuing on this journey next time.

TLA goes into it somewhat, but LOK really digs deep and doesn't hold back. The tale of Yakone, Noatok, and Tarrlok is just one of numerous stories in the series that is not only thoroughly well told, but gives real, human interactions weight and fervent depth. I love watching shows and movies with people to see how they react and as of late I haven't had anyone to do so with. I never got to finish this series so I'm glad I get to watch along side you! Seeing your emotion in your videos really makes it feel safe to react, sometimes I hold back the tears during the sad parts but now I just let it out! You're amazing and by far my favorite channel in today's RUclips ♥

Korra's tear at 41:45 added to the fact that Aang appears immediately after and talks about reaching one's "lowest point" makes me think she was contemplating suicide.

I watched almost every RUclips reaction to the Legend of Korra that exists on RUclips. You are the only one whom I am looking full without skipping to see just interesting moments, because you react to everything, EVERY detail that I noticed and that I liked during my first watch. Thank you for being so emotional!

One thing to keep in mind is that Legend of Korra was intended to be only a 12-episode mini-series. After the success of the first season, however, they decided to make another season. Then after that season's success, two more.

Which is understandable from a business perspective but really cripples the storytelling.

I knew you would love this series. This show means a lot to me on a personal level, so it's wonderful to see people experience it in a way similar to my own.

The first book/season was intended, and originally announced as a single-season limited series. Nickelodeon only decided to do more books after the first book had finished airing, proving that there was still an audience for avatar. Even then Nickelodeon never committed to more than one season at a time, which is why every season is it's own storyline.

I'm a really emotional person, and I really enjoy watching these reactions with you! They let me ugly cry for 20-30 minutes and it makes my day!
