You hit the nail right in the head with chi blocking. What Ty Lee did was strike pressure points from the outside, temporarily disabling the chi paths that originate from the head and spine. What Amon does with bloodbending is "hit" these points from the inside, thus severing them, instead of just disabling the flow for a while
There is a difference between how Amon and the Avatar take bending away, the avatar uses energy bending to alter the flow of energy within a person (the movement of this energy is why bending is possible and why it requires movement), while Amon is physically changing the body to block the flow of energy rather than controlling the energy itself.
It's not fully explained in the show, but Amon uses blood-bending similar to how the Equalists and Ty Lee used Chi-blocking; except while theirs is only temporary and used to incapacitate their opponent, Amon's is permanent because he's straight up stopping the chi flow altogether...
The avatar can only have kids that bend elements of the avatar's birthl element. So Aang can only provide the airbending gene, and Katara the waterbending gene or can get none and become a non bender
Yeah im pretty bending is not genetic but something spiritual... shown by twins not always having the same bending and later things... but your point stands even if the reasoning is a bit off
@@smite505 It's both, it's origin is spiritual in nature but how it passes on is genetic. Mako and Bolin's parents are Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation in heritage, that means both brothers could only ever be forebenders, earthbenders or nonbenders, it's impossible for either of them to be born water or air. The same goes for Aang's kids. Even if the spiritual nature allows bending to manifest in you, your genetics determine what element you are capable of inhereting and children of the avatar are no exception.
@kwenasepuru4604 that is a sort of post hoc argument though. It has bever been stated nor do really understand how the spirituality works anyway. Implying genetics is just us making it make sense, it's not lore. It could just be you adopt a similar spiritual traits as your parent, that has more evidence to it in universe than genetics
Yeah this is not lore, but we can deduce from observations with Aang and katara’s kids since they are our only evidence. But I have no doubt spiritually is involved with bending as we see with all airbenders being able to airbend etc, but I just wanted to answer their question with simplest argument without convoluting theories
@@smite505 I agree that we don't know enough about the spiritual aspect to judge directly. However, I strongly disagree on there being no corelation with a genetic component. How is it that in the 4 nations, only those with similar racial traits had the same element and the only time we see siblings inherit different elements is when the parents each belong to a different racial group? It's also a fact in both shows, that every existing child in the show who is a bender, whose parents we have seen, has at least one parent whose element or racial traits if they were not a bender, directly correspondences with that child's element. If you had to list every single parent and bending child in both shows, there is not a single child whose element does not match the element or race of at least one of their parents. So I feel there's a difference between implying genetics from nothing and proving genetics through a hypothesis that has yet to be disproven, which is how all theory and science works.

Relationship stuff seems weird, but to give context, this *is* what a good portion of the fandom wanted back in the day - so much fandom content of the first show revolved around shipping, it makes sense they'd figure to actually put it front and center in Korra initially
@BlackGirlMarvel essentially. He targets the main source of chi and permanently blocks it. Thankfully it's a trick only accessible to psychic blood benders.
I think he's using blood bonding and the knowledge you get of the internals from waterbending healing to block that third eye/ arrow point theat lets chi flow.
