Season 1 was AMAZING! To be clear I've (Prez) had discussions on Patreon regarding the ending and the sudden ability to bring back bending which made me open to it however personally I was still a bit disappointed for there to be no real consequences. Just hope we can agree to disagree on this one if we have to😂 SEASON 2 STARTS NEXT WEEK! Or you can be ahead with Uncut Reactions on Patreon www.patreon.com/TGLReacts
Not to sound too repetitive, but if you are still continuing this series, I recommend you not using the subtitles in following books as I've seen other reactors get spoiled because of them :)
I really think your Tripping a little cause I mean AANG Learned this technique from a freaking giant lion turtle lol so but it really not bullshit she connected to her spiritual side and finally was able to connect to her past lives because of that and with that AANG was able to restore the connection of her severed bending now with all elements and being in touch with her spiritual side she was able to finally go Avatar State at least I think it's probably official explained in the comics or comic
To be fair, the Avatar is the “Master of all Elements” shouldn’t be too far fetched for her to have seen and have blood bending used on her to be able to use it at her peak Avatar State potential for that time, given it was supposed to be a series finale while you still have the abundance mindset knowing there’s more to come for you
To clarify Korra went to that cliff thinking about killing herself so the next avatar would have their bending, that's why Aang said she was at her "Lowest Point" I love the Murder/Suicide by Tarrlok, it's easily in my top 5 Avatar moments.
That actually makes a lot of sense. Never thought about that. That murder/suicide was so good, but the tear on noataks face makes me think he knew what his brother was doing, but he had to the power to stop him. So why didn't he?
@@JAYDOG1337A yeah that's why tarrlok did it. But why did Noatak shed a tear? Is he sad because he knows tarrlok doesn't want to live anymore when he is around. Or is it just a happy tear that they are back together
@@JAYDOG1337A so why did he not stop tarrlok from killing him and committing suicide? Or is he just sad his brother would rather die than live with him again
The subtext to why Tarrlok took his own and his brother's life is so heartbreaking as well. Cause he knew what happened with his Father, and how Tarrlok and Noatak ended up becoming and Tarrlok saw that history was going to repeat itself, so he put a permanent stop to it. Really some heavy shit which this series handles really well.
Not to think too deeply about it, but it was clear Noatak sensed Tarrlok about to end it for both of them. I wonder if he was fast enough to stop him but chose not to.
Noatak could "psychic bend", like when Yakone bended everyone in the room without looking back. Safe to assume he could sense what his brother is doing.
Ep11 when he said to Korra "put an end to this sad story" Then he did it by himself Even Noatak let it happens, he knew it was the only way to end that cursed bloodline
I personally was very satisfied with the ending of everyone getting their bending back. I didn't want ATLA again, I don't need another journey of learning bending. I want the nitty gritty world problems.
Also it makes 0 sense for Korra to spend a season relearning the elements from a character perspective as well. The 3 elements she lost are the ones she is best at and already spent years mastering and perfecting, she knows all the forms and philosophy of those bending styles. It's not like Aang first learning the elements or even Korra learning airbending. Imo it was a great decision to focus on the avatar state and past lives and spirits to help her develop her spiritual side instead of rehashing ATLA.
never understood why people get so upset about korra getting her bending back. amon could never actually “take” bending away. he was just blocking it. that being said aang unblocking it would make sense why she still knows how to bend easily cause it was still inside her. also saying you never seen aang give bending back when he literally died at age 60 there’s a lot you wouldn’t know he isn’t 12💀
Probably because it feels very deus ex machina and it diminishes the stakes that were set throughout the season. Personally, I don't mind it, but I acknowledge that it does seem like an instant fix. Sure, Aang might have learned how to do it during his lifetime, but if it's not shown or even told to us, then it comes out of nowhere. Amon was set up to be a huge threat for most of the season, permanently taking away bending, but now that we find out that's not the case and it can be restored so easily, it makes certain scenes a lot less powerful or meaningful. Again, I liked the ending, but there are valid criticisms that I totally understand. Unfortunately, a lot of them are due to the issues with Nickelodeon.
@@Zippy_815 again if they showed aang giving back bending in korra it would be an easy give away of what’s to come. also like i also stated amon never learned to actually TAKE people’s bending away. he was blocking it with blood bending as tarlok said in the previous episode. so aang (AVATAR) simply undoing a waterbenders trick just isn’t as far fetched as people make it seem to me. idk how that’s considered “being restored so easily” when it’s just a blockage
@@Nando-hj4zi I know Amon wasn’t permanently taking away bending. That’s not the issue. But that’s what the show was implying to the audience for most of the season. Amon went from someone who could permanently take away bending, to a blood bender blocking bending, to a blood bender blocking bending in a reversible way. A villain who can permanently take away bending is much more intimidating and powerful than a blood bender who can kind of sort of block bending in a way that can be fixed. Aang coming in suddenly granting Korra her bending and the ability to restore others’ bending is simply a deus ex machina. There’s no other way to put it. As I stated, I enjoyed the ending. I’m not trying to argue. I’m simply explaining that there are very valid criticisms to the finale.
The fact that Korra was contemplating suicide on the cliff shows how important the world is to her. She was almost ready to make way for the next avatar to keep the world safe. Still, I'm glad she didn't, she had a great development. Some people don't like her, but I personally love her precisely because she's mentally very strong. My favorite line from the Avatar Universe is, "Aang had to learn to be an Avatar, Korra had to learn to be a human." Watching the series with that phrase in mind just makes it even better and more interesting.
I think if they knew they had all four seasons from the get go I think they would have had a journey of her regaining her other 3 elements but they didn't and had to give us a one season satisfying ending with her also in the Avatar State. It also makes sense that she with help from mostly Aang's wisdom in her that can reconnect others with their bending. It would have been cool to see Korra having only Air but we had that journey with Aang
I don't know if losing the powers and getting them back 2 min later is satisfying for someone but it isn't for me. They just should have left the ending open. It'd have been a more impactful ending for me even if they didn't get more seasons and would have been a much better start for season 2 in case they did as they did. It's not like it doesn't make sense but is just weaker story-telling and wasted potential. The scene with Korra and Aang was epic but still...
Yeah, everyone hates Korra getting her bending back and unlocking the avatar state so easily, but considering the writers didn't think they would have more than 1 season, it makes the decision more understandable, even though it is annoying.
It makes sense that Aang can just show her how to do these things. People want to see the process but they got straight to the point that would make sense. If it wasnt for nickelodeon we would have got that process.
@@silentassasongirl had to literally reach rock bottom and contemplate suicide in order to gain access to the avatar state and apparently that means she gained it too easily lmao
Well he firebent as Roku though, Aang didn't suddenly learn to do it too just cause Roku did it through his body. In this case, what happened was like with the lion turtle, when he taught Aang how to bend energy itself (hence being able to manipulate manipulate ability to bend isn't really that strange imo)
I didn't want korra to relearn the other elements in the next seasons because that would have been too similar to Aang. I'm really happy that for the rest of the show she's a fully realised Avatar and we see her in action instead of her just mastering the other elements again.
Also it doesn't make sense either. It's not like airbending where she would struggle. Those are the 3 elements she's naturally good at and already mastered them.
Honestly, it was supposed to only be one season, but Nick changed their decision near the end of their season. This hot-and-cold relationship between Nickelodeon and The creators continues every season of Korea, so they’re all self-contained (and rather crammed) 😅
Only the first two seasons are self-contained stories when season 3 was being made they either knew they'd have a season 4 or planned for it without spoiling anything a lot of themes and characters carry over from 3 to 4
@@keanugibson3753 Book 3 and 4 were greenlit at the same time cause Nick ordered 26 episodes and Bryke asked for them to be split into 2 books. Of course, Nick slashed their budget during book 4's production which really messed with parts of the story.
I actually loved that Korra never used the avatar state as a power-up tool to beat her opponent. Even when she is in actual danger being blood-bended and getting her bending taken away, her avatar state didn't kick in as a failsafe. Also, the story would've been that much better if the writers weren't left hanging until after season 1 completed that season 2 is being green-lit. They could easily left it on a cliff-hanger and never finish the story if a new season didn't get confirmed.
First off, I wanna state that you're definitely not alone in your opinion. The show is definitely rushed due to the creators only getting the green light for one season. However, I think with the backstory on how she was going to kill herself to restart the avatar cycle (her lowest point), I think it makes sense that she connects with Aang. And Aang restoring her bending is (to me) just as 'sudden' as a lion turtle giving Aang the power to take bending away (which in some way Aang also 'called upon' as he was lost, since he didn't want to kill Ozai). I'm glad you still enjoyed Korra, and the seasons (except season 2) will be even better. Can't wait to see more :)
Season 2 is definitively the worst season, but it has some of the highest points, as well as some of the lowests. For example, I would describe Season 1 as a good rising curve, and then the ending makes it fall quite a bit, but nothing criminal or that completely destroys the rest of the season, it is just a rushed ending. Now, season 2 is basically a roller coaster, always going up and down in terms of quality. (the return of the love triangle SUUUUUUUUCKS so bad).
@@danielmunoz1275 yeah I made it sound like I completely hate season 2 which I absolutely don't, there are so many great moments (which I won't spoil here). It's just like you said, the ending is what gets me.
The lion turtle actually gave aang the ability to take away sumones powers. He didn’t take time to teach him I think he just downloaded the info on how to do it. It does feel rushed but not Bs bc we found out last series that the avatar maybe anyone can do it. Also if u can take it away I’m pretty sure u can give it back. I wanna know if they can give it to sumone who doesn’t have bending.
Well, we are shown that "maybe anyone can do it" isn't accurate. Amon bended their bodies and somehow perma clocked their chi, chi bending is very different. While ultimately it's the same thing, chi bending is likely to be exclusive to the avatar
@silentassason it's not chi bending it's known as Energy bending. we see in ATLA the lion turtle does it to Aang so he can take away someone's bending I think Amons blood bending is essentially blocking the chi. the lion turtle and the avatar can take someone's bending basically making them a non bender but Amon blocks the bending like a permanent chi block they similar but different. I think a strong enough blood bender could reverse what a Amon did but not what Aang or Korra could do
@@keanugibson3753 energy, Chi, tomato tomato. But yeah I always figured Amon was using advanced Chi blocking with blood bending. Especially when in season 2 of AtLA Katara can speed up the recovery from Chi blocking with waterbending. Amon is effectively doing the opposite of that with blood bending and Chi blocking knowledge.
When aang and the lion turtle met.. the lion turtle taught him to energy bend. Not just take bending away. Energy bending means he can take your bending away, or give back your lost bending and even give non-benders the ability to bend.
"Before we bended the elements, we used to bend the energy within ourselves." the Lion Turtle's words make it very clear, it wasn't a specific power to take bending away, but the knowledge of Energy Bending. "To bend another's spirit, your own spirit has to be unbendable." Another phrase from the Lion Turtle that also explains that to impose energy bending into someone a strong will is necessary, and one that has to be stronger than the other person.
Hey I know he's a maniac, so it's not a plothole, but actually... Amon's plan never would've worked anyway, cause people who's Bending was taken can still pass it on to their children Like, you know, literally his own dad lmao what a dummy
I’m thinking he was counting on catching baby benders before they were trained and “equalizing” them while they were young and didn’t know what they were doing. It’s probably more difficult to train a bender when you can’t use your bending abilities anymore, so he’d have time. Not to mention, he was counting on a worldwide aversion to bending to form. It only takes one generation of propaganda to convince children that bending is evil. Imagine teachers encouraging their students who discover bending abilities to turn themselves in to be cleansed.
@@PelafinaLievre Not entirely impossible, bur yeah, no way he could achieve that in a lifetime Only option he'd have is raise a successor (like his dad tried to) but thats such a major risk considering his ideology hinges on no one knowing the truth
My defence for the quick wrap-up and korra being able to give back everyone's bending and got her elements back: It lets the next seasons have different stories that are not relearning the elements again, atla did that. And the whole dating and love stuff ends up pretty good by end of show
IMO, I’m glad that Korra got her bending back and we didn’t have to spend a season seeing how she got it back. That was already the whole thing with ATLA.
Korea’s getting the ability to restore bending from Aang will actually make sense halfway through next season. Remember when connecting with past lives she gets all of their collective knowledge of aang knew how to restore bending thanks to the lion turtle that knowledge would be available to her as well.
The thing is, they didn’t want to rehash ATLA. Didn’t want to tell the same story of her learning (or re-learning in this case) Water, Earth & Fire like how we saw Aang
It was rushed but given that it was only going to be one season, I get it and it doesn't bother me. I don't think I would have wanted to see her spend 3 more seasons trying to get her bending back though. Especially since I really enjoy what they did end up doing.
I mean this is the EXACT same ending in ATLA. Aang literally got a deus ex machina in the exact moment he took Ozai's bending away. There was no lead up or anything. No consequence of leaving Ozai alive. He had everything solved for him out of nowhere.
The avatar state is the connection with all the past lives so of course she would have the ability to restore bending now because she can channel the knowledge from Aang
In addition to Bryke not knowing if they'd get another season or not, Book 1 of Korra went through a lot of production hell. First it was going to be a miniseries. Then it was going to be ~20 episodes but got cut down to 12. Not to mention that Korra was studio Mir's first animation project ever and they stretched themselves thin to make it as impressive as possible so that they could get contracts animating other shows.
Trust me (no spoilers), as someone who has watched all of Korra you will look back and be very thankful that the next 3 books aren't Korra relearning bending. It's different to what Aang went through and arguably more complicated.
people online only hate on korra because of nostalgia and sexism, the only bad season is season 2, seasons 1 and 4 are great and season 3 is PERFECT. I love this show.
Personally I disagree with you on hating the returning her bending part. It makes sense. First, the creators did not know about a s2 until after they finished so we very obviously cannot end the show on korra the airbender instead of the avatar lmfaoo. Second there are tons of things aang can do that we havent seen. He is 60 when he died. We missed a full 48 years of him so you cannot say he couldnt do that when we dont know. Next amon never took bending away. He simply severed the connection. SO it makes sense that connecting to her avatar state and past lives can restore that connection. And since aang lives within korra it also makes sense that she is able to return bending as well. Finally, yes four seasons, yes it could mean for all the elements but why would anyone want that? I want to see korra not just an updated avatar the last airbender.
I'm sure everyone feels this way about every show they watch with you guys on this channel, but man the next episodes can't come quick enough. Even though it's only a day's wait between them, I'm constantly wishing that every show released on every day.
@@jihosz i guess i understand why people are upset about the massive consequences in s2 but me personally i think it was a plus for me tbh. like yeah, it absolutely sucked that is happened but they did well with it afterward and it kinda made korra come into her own as an avatar idk thats just me
Glad you really liked Korra. Looking forward to season two, which I also enjoyed. Season two maybe the most uneven of the 4 seasons but it definitely has some excellent episodes & introduces some fun characters.
It feels like, had they known they'd eventually be asked to make four seasons (!) they'd have approached the Bending being taken a lot differently, yeah But from a time where they thought Korra was essentially gonna be a 12 episode mini-series, it makes a lot more sense why they ended it like this Also yeah, I think it wouldve been cooler if Amon actually burned himself for the sake of his story (or perhaps really had been burned by a Firebender) buuut that'd need additional explaining that prolly wouldnt hsve fit into the pacing as is, whereas the paint washing off is self-explained through the action itself.
It's not rushed at all, it's the most literal obvious logical progression of how things should go. Like why would her getting her bending back be a full seasons worth when it's literally the whole point of being the avatar to have the help of previous ones? Not to mention it's boring as a story.
Yea, as soon as you mentioned lack of consequences, I knew you would be iffy on the ending. Although I'm 1000% sure it wouldn't have ended this way, if they know about more seasons. I saw someone make an interesting idea, the rest of the series is her relearning the bending Amon toon away. But obviously it's not like that. But trust, book 2 can be bumpy, but they know how to write with what they got
@@af3897 agreed. Watching it now with someone else, it's a bit rough but could be way worse. If it were book 1, I'd fully agree with series not continuing, book 1 as we have it now, sets the show up for good moments
Tarrlok didn't kill himself because he lost his bending - he said it himself talking to Korra, he asked her to "End this sad story" - he realized his brother had to be stopped and he saw that he had become like his father even though he tried not to and so he felt the two of them had to end or their father's evil legacy would continue. He was sacrificing himself as an act of atonement, not commiting suicide.
Someone pointed out that Khora cannot airbend becose she was sheltered whole life and air is element of freedom. I think that moment when she lost all her elements(fire, water, earth) it kinda severed her from being avatar which make her more free than ever. So she manage to feel freedom needed for that element.
That last episode definitely was rushed and would be my only complaint about the first season but It makes sense for them to want to wrap something up quickly and take the safe route not knowing if they’re going to get another season for it. Korra does get better as the show goes on and I’m glad to see you guys giving it a solid review so far. I’m excited to see your reactions as we continue on.
When I first watched the show, I knew Tarrlok couldn't have been Amon. That would've been way too obvious. Also, I only recently learned that Clancy Brown voiced Yakone, and he also voiced Long Feng...and Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob. "Bloodbend your brother, me boy! Or else the Earth king will invite you to Lake Laogai. Aagagagagagag!"
At the cliff it was heavily implied Korra thought she couldn't be the avatar without the 4 elements so she was contemplating jumping off the cliff to have the avatar be reborn since the world needed the avatar.
My main issue with Korra, and the reason that it took me years to actually watch it, was just how much the world had come forward technologically from ATLA. In the other show, it showed flashbacks from generations back when they were still living a simple life without any major mechanical advances, and then here they suddenly have cars and skyscrapers and telephones and planes. It was just a lot to wrap my head around.
Fun Fact: There actually was a Legend of Korra videogame that came out in 2014. It was actually pretty decent albeit a bit repetitive in the long run. The combat was really fun and you could also play Pro Bending. Sadly it stopped being sold on all digital platforms when Activision's license ran out, and since it never got a physical release you can't buy it anymore, it's considered 'extinct'. I still have it installed on my PS4 though :)
Korra hadn't unlocked air when Amon took her other bending, so she still could become an airbender. And since Amon was only bending blood and not energy, she could heal and restore her and others' bending.
Just to give some context: the producers didn't know if there would be more seasons, so the ending of the first season was very conclusive and "epic". After the good repercussion, more seasons were announced. That's why this ending doesn't look like an "end of season", with some cliffhanger, but an epic end of series.
As with many series, whether anime or normal, the writers had the problem that they didn't know how many seasons the studios would pay. Korra had only ordered 1 season and therefore they had to hurry to finish it in this one season. Then, all of a sudden, more squadrons were ordered. All of a sudden, they had the opportunity to tell a story that was also based on each other.
I find it hilarious how few reactors genuinely guess that Amon was just wearing make-up 😂 I really hope they keep up the energy of wanting real consequences though, because so many reactors say they do but then bash on Korra once there are 🙄
Your idea of Korra having to relearn all the elements through each book would've been so cool. Sucks that the writers thought they were only doing one season.
Season 1 is for many people the best season (if not season 3), the end just suffered from rushing and miscommunication. The ending does feel cliche, if you really really think about it you can maybe explain it by saying when korra got the air bending and connected to her spirituality she also got the ability to energy bend like Ang did which seems to be an exclusively avatar ability. It’s also possible that because korra is the avatar amons technique simply doesn’t work, just like how avatar state Ang couldn’t be blood bent by Yachone, and entering avatar state simply unblocked korra bending by flooding her with energy.
I don't get why so many people wanted Korra to re-learn the elements for 3 seasons when that's already what we saw in The Last Air Bender 😭 I very much prefer what we got instead. Yes, the ending of season 1 is a bit rushed, but it was worth it for all we got after. Also the concept of season 2 is very cool. The season has writing/pacing issues, with annoying side plots for sure, but everything that has to do with the main story is epic in my opinion.
I'm not sure if this was ever confirmed but there's a very popular theory that Korra was about to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff at the end. You see her tear fall off the cliff, meaning she was looking over it and was likely contemplating jumping. Then Aang appears and talks about our lowest moment, which suicide is as low as you can get. Her whole life was dedicated to being the Avatar and trying to help the world, that was all she wanted. She felt if she wasn't able to be a fully realized Avatar, that she'd failed and that killing herself and allowing a fully capable Avatar to be born would be better for the world.
Theres a popular fan theory that Korra was seriously contemplating jumping from the cliff which is why Aang shows up. Never been confirmed nor denied as far as i know but there's decent enough evidence to go either way with it
Korra season one was greenlit and envisioned as mini series, not one season. everyone talks about how they finished season one not knowing if they would get more, but in reality there was never an expectation of more. it was always meant to totally conclude at the end of 12 episodes. Mini Series is a more definitive way of looking at it than a “season one”
Respectfully i disagree with yall stance on the ending. Yea they could have left it openended and on a cliffhanger but many times people always press onward for an answer so concluding the story like this fits. Even if its rushed. With korra getting her bending back, aang got the ability to bend people powers from the lion turtle. They both came unexpectedly and with no real foreshadowing leading up to that point. Aang had just left from the group, learned that skill by talking to past avatars and lion turtle and then used it on the fire lord. Korra left her group, learned it by talking to aang and then used it. They both were very similarly used in it being what changes the “stakes” of the last battle but i dont think its bad enough to ruin season 1. Korra also only showed this ability once she tapped into the avatar state so without that connection to aang, she maybe wouldnt have ever figured it out. The lion turtles showed aang and he showed korra. I think they honestly did a good job tying all the loose ends at the end while also rushing and making it make sense narratively
hahaha ever since your comment predicting the lack of consequences to the loss of bending abilities I was looking forward to this episode XD Yeah what can I say, that's bs but it'll get better!
Well but it also makes sense that Aang gave Korra her powers back and also the ability to do the same, because Aang learned that from the lion turtle so he can pass that knowledge on to other avatars..
Can someone please tell me how Korra broke out of the second most powerful bloodbender's grip without the avatar state? It makes no sense, especially since Amon is a psychic bloodblender meaning he doesn't need to hands to bend and solely needs to be conscious (and of course the moon spirit needing to be alive). Katara didn't even have that level of skill as she needed the full moon to bloodbend at all and I think it's easy to agree Korra and Katara at around this young age would outclass especially since she doesn't have the avatar state before Aang appeared after the showing of Amon and Tarrlok's deaths.
I don't follow how people think Korra getting her bending back would work. She didn't "forget" how to bend, it was forcefully taken away from her. We probably would have ended up with a full season of Tenzin trying to guide her through meditation to unlock her chakras and her complaining about how much she hates it the whole time. Personally I would have hated that.
I don't think Firebenders 'fly' as such, rather use Firebending to boost themselves in a particular direction; to jump higher or control their decent. They certainly wouldn't be able to maneuver mid-air in the same way an Airbender could.
Iam happy they did it this way. Wouldn’t have liked her spending season(s) that way. For me it was pretty logical the way the turtle explained that aang also could give bending to people. Bending energy doesn’t mean just take it away.
Also it doesn't even make sense because she already knows everything about the 3 bending styles she "lost" considering she's spent her entire life mastering those 3.
Yes, equalize the world by targeting many benders, who have done nothing to hurt people, and most importantly target children who are innocent and have done literally nothing except breathe and try to learn their art.
Okay, so everyone has now to the end of time mentioned about how Nickelodeon screwed the creators with each season and everything, and you guys have mentioned it in some of your post-episode comment as well. But just to add some context to all that, since we know the situation that this series was created on, it might help to view each season as its own mini-series basically. The fact that there are more seasons doesn't mean it is a direct continuation from the previous. Some elements carry over, but there is a new villian with new challenges each season. If you view each season like that, instead of in the same light as ATLA (there was 1 big bad villian the entire series), then people might be less harsh on LoK.
Re learning the element means screentime for "re-learning" those elements. Korra is, if anything, more in sync with avatars that are more proficient in their physical side like Avatar Kyoshi and Yangchen. Her avatar journey is on the spiritual side. Aang was obviously on the physical, considering he was already spiritual due to his strong connection to the nomads' teachings. Korra only connected to her spiritual side for this season. Being connected isn't the same with being able to walk through it, or mastering it. Therefore, if anything it is only best for her to get her elements back at the end of Season 1 & focus on her spiritual journey. Because, again. Mastering the elements is not her avatar journey. She's not Aang. Plus Aang had his chakras opened, and even managed to learn the ability to take someone's bending in a snap. What I'm trying to say him choosing love had no consequences either when it should have because it's literally Katara vs Avatar State. Him choosing Katara was a permanent closure of his 8th chakra. He chose love. Consequence was "not being able to access avatar state". But even then, we were robbed of that consequence because lion turtle did it's thing. He even got a freebie (removing bending). And we all LOVED it. We loved Aang for not facing consequences of not accessing the avatar state. We loved him regardless. So, I think we can still love Korra despite having no consequences on her story, and even if she "suddenly" learned to return bending. If loved Aang for having freebies, we should do the same for Korra.
I don't agree with what you said about that whole aang choosing his love for katara means he shouldn't have been able to get into avatar state ever again. First of all if you remember aang had actually decided to give up his love for katara so that he could protect her in that fight where zuko betrays katara's trust and joins azula, its just that when his last chakra point just got opened he got struck by the lightning which resulted in his chakra point being sealed and him not being able to get into the avatar state for a while. So what I think is since his chakra point got sealed he was able to revert his mental state into one that can love katara again but at the same time since he had already opened his last chakra point once he didn't need to go through that whole process again and just needed a powerful impact in that exact spot where the lightning hit just enough to make the bundle of energy accumulated there flow again (the bundle of energy was stated by katara in book 3 when she tried to heal aang's scar) to reopen his chakra point, and this is exactly what happened in his fight with ozai. Now even if we don't consider any of this....just the fact that aang wasn't able to tap into his avatar state for almost an entire season was way bigger of a consequence than what korra had to deal with here!
I just realized something. I recently learnt that there was some form of a strike from the writers between ATLA S2 and S3. Maybe that's why they only gave Korra one season initially. Otherwise from a business point of view it doesn't make sense to me why were they scared to invest in Korra if we saw how successful ATLA was.
The creators were screwed by Nickelodeon, we all know they can write great stories as we saw with ATLA, but Nick told them they only had one (rushed) season, and only when it was ending the studio gave them another one. And the same thing happened in season 2, it was only at the end when they gave them two more seasons with more time and more freedom, and everyone agrees that those 2 last seasons are the best of the bunch. (And even then they were screwed again, making most of Book 4 digital only, not even airing it on the channel)
Season 1 was AMAZING! To be clear I've (Prez) had discussions on Patreon regarding the ending and the sudden ability to bring back bending which made me open to it however personally I was still a bit disappointed for there to be no real consequences. Not to sound too repetitive, but if you are still continuing this series, I recommend you not using the subtitles in following books as I've seen other reactors get spoiled because of them :)
Yea i agree. Kid/teen-oriented shows have a bad habit of negating the consequences that drive the plot
We use subs for easier/better edits, not every episode can be loud due to copyright so the subs help the viewers keep up even with low audio
To be fair, the Avatar is the “Master of all Elements” shouldn’t be too far fetched for her to have seen and have blood bending used on her to be able to use it at her peak Avatar State potential for that time, given it was supposed to be a series finale while you still have the abundance mindset knowing there’s more to come for you
To clarify Korra went to that cliff thinking about killing herself so the next avatar would have their bending, that's why Aang said she was at her "Lowest Point"
I love the Murder/Suicide by Tarrlok, it's easily in my top 5 Avatar moments.
That actually makes a lot of sense. Never thought about that. That murder/suicide was so good, but the tear on noataks face makes me think he knew what his brother was doing, but he had to the power to stop him. So why didn't he?
@@dariodelvoije Because there were no good old days, not after they discovered their bending.
@@JAYDOG1337A yeah that's why tarrlok did it. But why did Noatak shed a tear? Is he sad because he knows tarrlok doesn't want to live anymore when he is around. Or is it just a happy tear that they are back together
@@dariodelvoije sad, definitely sad
Also because they could bloodbend during the day. They could've gotten vasectomies or somethint but whatever
Noatak could "psychic bend", like when Yakone bended everyone in the room without looking back. Safe to assume he could sense what his brother is doing.
Ep11 when he said to Korra "put an end to this sad story"
Then he did it by himself
Even Noatak let it happens, he knew it was the only way to end that cursed bloodline
and if you think about it, noatak/amon def sensed what he was doing and he agreed to the suicide, hence his tears
Aang was a human learning to be the avatar.
Korra was an avatar learning to be human
never understood why people get so upset about korra getting her bending back. amon could never actually “take” bending away. he was just blocking it. that being said aang unblocking it would make sense why she still knows how to bend easily cause it was still inside her. also saying you never seen aang give bending back when he literally died at age 60 there’s a lot you wouldn’t know he isn’t 12💀
It was too quick , it needed two episodes at least
@@Zippy_815 again if they showed aang giving back bending in korra it would be an easy give away of what’s to come. also like i also stated amon never learned to actually TAKE people’s bending away. he was blocking it with blood bending as tarlok said in the previous episode. so aang (AVATAR) simply undoing a waterbenders trick just isn’t as far fetched as people make it seem to me. idk how that’s considered “being restored so easily” when it’s just a blockage
@@Oscar-yx1xx Nah, I think ONE single extra episode dealing with this would've been more than enough.
My favorite line from the Avatar Universe is, "Aang had to learn to be an Avatar, Korra had to learn to be a human."
Watching the series with that phrase in mind just makes it even better and more interesting.
And personally I think that’s for the best
The stories we have to follow are MUCH better than basically a retread of the first series would’ve been
@@Owain9797I mean we could have the same 3 other stories and at the same time making korra learn the elements during the new books.
No, they wouldn't. Because anyone with a brain would know it would be completely boring and stupid as fuck to do that
@@kaijingarou6526 How is it not? Do you have any idea what being the avatar is? If she didn't get them back it would be a literal plot hole.
Yeah, everyone hates Korra getting her bending back and unlocking the avatar state so easily, but considering the writers didn't think they would have more than 1 season, it makes the decision more understandable, even though it is annoying.
Getting her ass completely handed to her and losing her bending constitutes "easily" gaining the Avatar state?
Well, I don't
It makes sense that Aang can just show her how to do these things. People want to see the process but they got straight to the point that would make sense. If it wasnt for nickelodeon we would have got that process.
@@silentassasongirl had to literally reach rock bottom and contemplate suicide in order to gain access to the avatar state and apparently that means she gained it too easily lmao
what do you mean unlocking the avatar state so easily? its an inherent ability to the avatar, aang had it in episode 2
I don't know if you remember, but Avatar Roku took over Aang's body and bended fire, so yes past avatars can do things like return Korra's bending.
@@dafnid7294It's the same thing, the past Avatar exerting bending...
@@dafnid7294Past avatars can indeed help the current Avatar, some people forget concepts created from the beginning.
She got her ass kicked all over the place and didn't actually win the fight.
Have you seen Hello Future Me's series of videos called "Fixing Korra" or something like that? It's very good.
@@LuvStarburstthis is clear delusion.
Did Amon win??
@LuvStarburst amon can't bloodbend her anymore cause she can resist and amon ran from her afterwards 😭 she def won
It's Chi bending that the Lion Turtle taught Aang, wasn't specifically taking away someone's bending.
So basically in book 1 and 2 they were like “welp the show ends here”
But surprisingly nickelodeon gave then more support for another season.
Beginnings part 1 and 2 and Book 3 are insane cant wait!
Hey I know he's a maniac, so it's not a plothole, but actually...
Amon's plan never would've worked anyway, cause people who's Bending was taken can still pass it on to their children
Like, you know, literally his own dad lmao
what a dummy
I’m thinking he was counting on catching baby benders before they were trained and “equalizing” them while they were young and didn’t know what they were doing. It’s probably more difficult to train a bender when you can’t use your bending abilities anymore, so he’d have time.
Not to mention, he was counting on a worldwide aversion to bending to form. It only takes one generation of propaganda to convince children that bending is evil. Imagine teachers encouraging their students who discover bending abilities to turn themselves in to be cleansed.
@@PelafinaLievre Not entirely impossible, bur yeah, no way he could achieve that in a lifetime
Only option he'd have is raise a successor (like his dad tried to) but thats such a major risk considering his ideology hinges on no one knowing the truth
A brutal murder suicide. Nickelodeon has changed.
I have a feeling the planes were how they captured Tenzin’s family 😢
Book 1 was awesome, but I can't wait for you to get to Book 3. It's breathtakingly good.
I see what you did there :D
mindblowing
@@nhahaoneshocking even
It blew my mind…
people online only hate on korra because of nostalgia and sexism, the only bad season is season 2, seasons 1 and 4 are great and season 3 is PERFECT. I love this show.
I do think a lot of the vocal hate stem from those two things unfortunately which stunt any actual critical discussion
9:03 "Water... Fire... Earth.... Air! I knew it!" 🤣🤣 Just kidding, I know you were trying to say air from the beginning xD
Excited for next week!
I'm sure everyone feels this way about every show they watch with you guys on this channel, but man the next episodes can't come quick enough. Even though it's only a day's wait between them, I'm constantly wishing that every show released on every day.
Appreciate this😂glad you enjoy the reactions!
You want CONSEQUENCES?!!!!!!! Well season 2 gives you lasting consequences
LMAOOOOO
Then everybody hates it when the consequences actually happen lmao
@@jihosz i guess i understand why people are upset about the massive consequences in s2 but me personally i think it was a plus for me tbh. like yeah, it absolutely sucked that is happened but they did well with it afterward and it kinda made korra come into her own as an avatar idk thats just me
you guys looking for a consequence? hahaha cant wait to see your season 2 reactions! great season run with you both!
Glad you really liked Korra. Looking forward to season two, which I also enjoyed. Season two maybe the most uneven of the 4 seasons but it definitely has some excellent episodes & introduces some fun characters.
It feels like, had they known they'd eventually be asked to make four seasons (!) they'd have approached the Bending being taken a lot differently, yeah
But from a time where they thought Korra was essentially gonna be a 12 episode mini-series, it makes a lot more sense why they ended it like this
Also yeah, I think it wouldve been cooler if Amon actually burned himself for the sake of his story (or perhaps really had been burned by a Firebender) buuut that'd need additional explaining that prolly wouldnt hsve fit into the pacing as is, whereas the paint washing off is self-explained through the action itself.
I’ve never seen anyone “not like” Lin getting her bending back, crazy to me.
But trust, book 2 can be bumpy, but they know how to write with what they got
agreed. personally book 2 gets too much hate just like the show gets too much much hate (even though the first half is a little meh admittedly)
You know how the lion turtle tought aang how to energy bend. He tought her that same way. It's all connected guys.
Every book has completely different challenges so the finale makes sense in the grand scheme of things
And remember when u go into the avatar state u get access to all knowledge of the previous ones
The Lieutenant's voice is Lance Henriksen (Bishop in Aliens, one of the police in The Terminator). Great voice!
The murder/suicide really drives home the point that this isn't a kids show anymore
Well, it has almost being half a century since then. It makes sense to me. Kinda like the technology revolution, it grows rapidly
just as the real world. compare the thousands of years of simple living to the past three centuries since the industrial revolution
@@another_julia yes, very true 👍
I find it hilarious how few reactors genuinely guess that Amon was just wearing make-up 😂 I really hope they keep up the energy of wanting real consequences though, because so many reactors say they do but then bash on Korra once there are 🙄
Cant wait for the boys to watch S3 is insane :D
I also saw so.eone one time say. Korra is a fighter avatar in a time of peace. Aang is a peaceful avatar in a time of war.
Season 2 of korra is great but you guys really going to love season 3
Your idea of Korra having to relearn all the elements through each book would've been so cool. Sucks that the writers thought they were only doing one season.
It’s a understandable ending for S1 with its production issues. S2 and S3 gets better with its pacing.
I loved Korra. And I loved how the closed the story.. No cliffhangers
sad fact: Noatak can feel the fluid in one's body (that's how he found Korra), so he knew what Tarrlock was about to do but he let him...
She felt if she wasn't able to be a fully realized Avatar, that she'd failed and that killing herself and allowing a fully capable Avatar to be born would be better for the world.
it was confirmed
Amon did not firebend , he just jumped through the fire korra firebended. h's simply very agile
the way they ended was very telling, due to the fact that the writers still had not gotten approval for season 2
Did u guys notice that no1 but Toph n Asami r like the only ones w. A last name?
Lol
Theres a popular fan theory that Korra was seriously contemplating jumping from the cliff which is why Aang shows up. Never been confirmed nor denied as far as i know but there's decent enough evidence to go either way with it
Would have been an interesting ending if she did jump in the case there was only one season.
@@LIA-52agreed. There was already a murder/suicide on screen so we know they have the balls to do it
I'm pretty sure they've confirmed it somewhere, if not, it strongly suggests it and I think 95% of the fan base has adopted this theory as canon
@@LIA-52Korra jumps and goes splat like Javert in Les Mis. Then the Nickelodeon jingle plays.
Well that’s the thing having all the bending disciplines aren’t what completes the avatar as you will see in the future
Asami is definitely the low key best character in this season after rewatching while Mako is the worst boyfriend 😂
Amon was such a great villain I was actually upset he died with Tarlok like I at least wanted them to go back to the North Pole or end up in prison
I'm glad u liked it even tho i knew u would like it but yeah the ending was pretty fast
hahaha ever since your comment predicting the lack of consequences to the loss of bending abilities I was looking forward to this episode XD Yeah what can I say, that's bs but it'll get better!
Well but it also makes sense that Aang gave Korra her powers back and also the ability to do the same, because Aang learned that from the lion turtle so he can pass that knowledge on to other avatars..
nah she uses it through the avatar state so she's using his ability to energy bend
Can not wait for your reactions on season 2!😄❤
Teenage love story is the main tag of Korra 😂
omg, he did not firebend lol. where do u two come up with these haha :D Enjoying the reaction.
Can't wait for you guys to get to Season 3 (the Best season IMO)
Hindsight is a hell of a thing.😂
I don't think Firebenders 'fly' as such, rather use Firebending to boost themselves in a particular direction; to jump higher or control their decent. They certainly wouldn't be able to maneuver mid-air in the same way an Airbender could.
The lip is easy with a good makeup kit - a little spirit gum to pull the lip up a bit.
Why does nobody note that she was gonna end herself?
Would be a fitting end if the following seasons didn't get made.
Wait when u said he us firebendr i was like, what edible was that
The creators were screwed by Nickelodeon, we all know they can write great stories as we saw with ATLA, but Nick told them they only had one (rushed) season, and only when it was ending the studio gave them another one. And the same thing happened in season 2, it was only at the end when they gave them two more seasons with more time and more freedom, and everyone agrees that those 2 last seasons are the best of the bunch. (And even then they were screwed again, making most of Book 4 digital only, not even airing it on the channel)
4:40 He simply jumped through the flames guys, no bending at all. Whip your arms hard enough to briefly move the flames whilst jumping through
Good work, bois.
