Oh if you guys want to know the story between tlok and tla then it's in the comics. Saying this just in case you expecting to find most of the answers in the show.
Love Korra, but after Korra, My Hero Academia is a must! It’s an anime sort of like Harry Potter but with super heroes! So good! Oh, watch the English Dub (has English voices!). The Alternative is English Sub which has Japanese voices and English subtitles, but that is very hard and distracting to react to. Also, based on this episode, I would put the technology around the late 1920s or early 1930s, since they have radio (but no TV that we’ve seen), which completely makes sense, set xx years in the future after Ang’s series.
@@Lookalike02 I believe they use them for one or two more episodes and then they stop. They usually do it for the first episodes of a series because they have trouble remembering names and such.
I love how you guys immediately saw the difference between Aang’s and Korra’s personality and fighting styles. They are indeed the opposites of one another
I've always wondered if the previous life has some influence on this - both in terms of their next life being a bit of 'monkey paw' situation about the kind of personality traits they thought lacked and in terms of not having to work so hard for skills that they had to focus most on in their previous life. Aang excels at the skills Roku struggled with (water bending) and virtues (healthy, reliable friendships, inspiring people to be better) that he thought he lacked. Unlike Aang Korra is not a pushover that avoids conflicts and elements other than her "natural" one come easy to her, not just as a skill but also in terms of using them. Aang would always strongly favour airbending where possible; Korra is just all over the place, sometimes she even seems to favour fire; which is another interesting thing given Aangs complicated journey to appreciate the element. EDIT: Totally forgot. I also bet it's not a coincidence Aang reincarnated into the Southern Watertribe not the Northern one.
@@oq1106 Totally agree!! In the avatar cycle, the next avatar will always look like the loved one of the previous avatar - Aang looks like Roku´s wife, and Korra looks like Katara.
She expected the food to be free because the White Lotus sheltered her all her life. In the White Lotus compound she had everything she wanted because everything was provided for her. It’s basically a fish out of water situation.
Literally fish out of water 😂. And yeah, good observation. Aang meanwhile had to roam the continent with his friends, sourcing their own food and supplies sometimes. The contrast between the two is so well done!
What kind of idiots are the white lotus of they don’t explain her how the world works. Money is such a basic thing that little children, who also never used it, know how it works.
I love that idea, it’s an overcorrection for Aang losing everything and having to fight for all he had. It’s very realistic imo. We do do that shit all the time with kids
They are really going to enjoy the bending animations in Korra. The newer technology definitely showed out in this show. The fighting is crispy and the sub bending elements are dope as well.
its still the same studio who does the animation tho i believe, you can tell some style choises animation styles who were introduced towards the end of book 3 carried over to korra.
@@greatman5885Kinda but marital arts also evolve with time. I missed the old large bending moves but for a martial arts perspective it makes sense why most moves would be shortened with time to be quicker/more efficient
Fun Fact: The current Dalai Lama is called Tenzin Gyatso. It’s clear where the writers took their inspiration from. Gyatso is the fatherly figure Aang had at the Southern Air Temple. Tenzin is Aang’s son.
So one thing to be aware of with this series was that it was originally planned for one season. Then Nickelodeon wanted 2 seasons. Then after that season they wanted two more. So each season is its own contained story, with not much of an overarching plot like the fire lord in TLA. Which isn't really the showrunners faults, but it is something you should know!
@yabada7866 there's a lot of good too though. I enjoy seeing the way the world progressed after Aang, I loved revisiting some of the og characters as older adults, and most of the villians in Korra are interesting. Plus I just love Korra's personality! It was nice to see a character like that as a little girl, someone who was tough and headstrong and badass.
I liked Korra for all the reasons you did. And I think it was good that they explored an age where the avatar and the world had more questions even if those questions are messier and more complicated. It was definitely fun and I always recommend it. But that season scheduling (I believe nick had ordered it 1 + 1 + 2?), imho, handicapped the writing. I don't mind the self-contained stories, but it made the character and world progress feel a bit disconcordant as the writers found themselves writing season endings as 'finales' only to unexpectedly need to reset somewhat to start a new season. But in the end, I'm happy there's more seasons of korra than originally intended. Worth the watch
@sesquipedalian6278 I agree with literally everything you said! I feel so bad for the writers, all of the seasons are wonderful self contained stories, and I know they could've made something just as well regarded as the original if they'd known they had 4 seasons to follow Korra's journey from the beginning. Even so, I think the questions they tackled were great, and showed a real understanding of the fact that the original fan base had aged, and was mature enough to tackle messier issues.
aang died earlier in his 60s because he used so much of his energy to stay alive in the iceberg. if you think about the world of the last airbender things were already very advanced. they had airships, powered steam ships, giant drills, tanks, submarines and all sorts of stuff. considering this is 60 years later it makes sense that they would have advanced a little bit more to this point.
Considering that it was only 66 years between the invention of flight and NASA landing on the moon, I find this time skip to be very believable in regards to how technology has advanced in the ATLA universe
@@zavodila9279 should be even more. these people can generate megawatts of energy and work with their minds. refined manipulation of the primal elements would vastly accelerate any advancement.
@@willwilliamson9580not really, as in the real world, technology advaces more when war is on the table, of course, it allways advanves, but when theres a war, it gets more relevance to improve for the goberment.
Plus now that the war's over, the nations are able to pool their resources together, which opens the door to new technological advances. Ironwork from the Fire Nation plus construction and labor from the Earth Kingdom plus abilities from the Water Tribes and you can see how, say, a steam engine would come to exist.
It also makes sense when you remember a lot of that stuff was made by the fire nation so only became readily available to the other nations after the war
@macmel2160 It really is a shame too... Neither series is perfect, but I feel like Korra gets hate where Aang doesnt simply because she is a girl.. but as people grow up and realize their immature views they could try watching Korra again and see just how good of a series it is.
@@t3hi84n2g I don't actually know how far the criticism to Korra is rooted on the fact that she is a girl. I think that LoK has the "problem" that it tries to be more mature and thus automatically turns people into a more serious and critical PoV. On the other hand, ATLA gets a pass because it's awesome while only pretending to be a cool cartoon for children. People rarely critique the billion contrived situations and unresolved ethical dilemas of AtLA because... well, at the end of the day it feels like "a children's cartoon". It had action, comedy and very clear plotlines that arc over three seasons. - Sincerely, another LoK fan trying to make sense of the hate
There's all sorts of reasons people don't like this show. When they do say that too you, ask them how far in the show they got. I doubt they got to season 3, which I love.
One of the main things Korra has to deal with is that she’s always been “kept safe”, as in, only ever saw the water tribe she was from. It’s why she’s so eager to learn new things

Just also take into account that Nickelodeon really screwed over this show not giving them episodes / seasons but then green lighting them then changing the airing/ times and cutting budget , so all in all this show still is amazing with all it had against it, like the animation, fighting, score/ soundtrack is top tier and the story still is really good
For real Nickelodeon did them dirty tbh. The last season didn't even air on television it was only available online or on dvd later. The music is gorgeous, I already loved ATLA soundtrack but for LOK they stepped it up even more.
I was really surprised that Spartan was super receptive about the difference of this series from ATLA. I think He will love Korra so much! I just didn't expect that Pudgey will be the one who is more critical. But I understand that the first few episodes, you guys will still compare it to ATLA, look for similarities, look for the things you always love about the previous series and expect this and that that used to be from the past, but I do hope that in time, you guys will realize that LOK is a different show, it will eventually try to be a separate show that is more than what ATLA used to be and be okay with that. When you start to accept that this is a stand alone show and not a continuation of the past, then you will also start to appreciate the world, the new characters and the stories and themes LOK are presenting us. Thank you so much for reacting to LOK. This is one of my most favorite shows of all time.
Yes to this!!! ^^^^ We watched them back to back and it took us a second to adjust to the new style and the fact that the characters we loved were not the focus, but once we got past a few episodes, we were deep in it and loved it. Gets even better every time we rewatch it.
@@119jkwh back then, I rewatch the show once every year without fail. Now that I discovered reactors, i somehow rewarch the series through their eyes and perspective its like having friends over to watch a series you really love.
Show sucks. Im so surprised ppl have a fervent fandom of this show. I can understand tons of ppl moderately liking it, giving it its minor to moderate success. But ppl looove this somehow. Andd its a sequel. How do ppl see the sequel first and get attached to it? Boggles my mind.
10:46 - if you want to know what happened to Zuko's mother, there's a series of graphic novels that cover that... in addition to other events e.g. how the United Republic was formed.
Super excited for LOK. Loved your insight for the first episode. 31:23 The monk who cared for and loved Aang was Monk Gyatso. He was also friends with Roku when Roku was learning air bending. The writers named Monk Gyatso after the 14th Dalai Lama whose personal name is Tenzin Gyatso. Chances are, the writers also named Tenzin after him.
We got a puppy while watching this show. She is a Husky and her name is Naga after Korra's polar bear dog 😅 Its fun to see how many people get the reference when we tell them her name.
"She's the opposite of Aang!" Kinda. I have a personal theory that each Avatar is a 160 from the Avatar RIGHT before them: Kuruk was laid back, so Kyoshi was strict and disciplined. Kyoshi was harsh, so Roku was forgiving. Roku was indecisive and hesitant, so Aang made choices on a whim, and believed in his choices even if he thought they weren't good ones. Aang was a spiritual prodigy by 12 and goofy, so Korra was a combat prodigy as a toddler and is a bit more serious.
@@robertmydla1481 Not necessarily. I mean, Kyoshi didn't have any concerns in the World from Kuruk's time. Roshi didn't have to worry about fixing any problems from Kyoshi's time. It's not that they have any concerns from previous Avatars that do it. But I DO believe that it's from something I can't mention until they get past Season 2.
@@daekry Exactly, I think many overlook that and I've seen a lot of people not liking the show or liking her as a character because they don't like that she is so different from Aang but that's what makes her journey interesting as she is basically the opposite of Aang.
Another contrast between the two is their upbringing and circumstances. Aang was missing his people and hardly had anyone to rely on to learn what he needed (remember his struggle to find someone to teach him Earth and Fire?). He and the gang, very early on if you remember, sometimes struggled to scrape enough coins together to buy food. Korra, on the other hand, is well looked after, but also very sheltered, basically the opposite problem to Aang.
It's shown in Kyoshi's novels that she learns an ability to slow the aging process down as a teenager. Doing that her whole life is what got her to 230. It's actually not common at all.
@@SKRRTCOBAIN00 Far more than two, however two for the characters they would be familiar with, certainly adds an emphasis that traditional lifespans don't translate to the Avatar world; thanks for the comment.
@@jasonhair2457He never said it was common, just that it wasn't that crazy lol. Going to space isn't common yet we know people who have gone there so it isn't crazy to say someone went to space in our world.
I had a feeling that Spartan would vibe with Korra, and how she is far more willing to stand her ground and fight compared to Aang. Looking forward to this reaction series. 💙
One of the things I love about korra is how the creators could have piggy backed on the success of the last airbender and done the same things again, but they specifically wanted to have korra stand on its own. Korra is almost the exact opposite of aang. Where aang was very in touch spiritually and never wanted to be avatar, korra is very physically and is lacking spiritually. And one of the first things she says is I'm the avatar and you need to deal with it, very much the opposite of aang.
It's a different animation studio but with a lot of the same animators from ATLA. They jumped from 3000-4000 drawings per episode in ATLA to 15.000 to 20.000 drawings per episode in Korra. Also more CG in a way you don't really notice like vehicles. Much smoother, more details and much more martial arts in Korra.
Katara caught Korra sneaking off to start her journey the same way Gran gran caught Katara when she was young with her brother. Both Katara and Gran Gran were expected to be mad but gave their blessings with smiles and supplies. Full circle
If you want to know what happened to Zuko's mom, look into reading "The Promise" and "The Search" comics. They're official avatar comics that take place in the aftermath of the war!
If you want to know the story of Zuko's mother, you'll have to read the comics in "The Search." Tenzin's air bison is called Oogie, because his uncle Sokka would always say that Aang and Katara being cutsie with each other gave him the Oogies. His bison is named after his uncle's word for his parent's love.
@@okyeawtf comics, more implied than said, as we see Sokka telling them they're giving him the Oogies a few times. We never get the story from Tenzin. I think Sokka says it in The Search and/or The Promise.
I love how you started off unsure about how successful watching avatar would be for the channel. But now to hear you say it was a key part in making you full time creators...idk it just makes my heart so full to hear that. The avatar community is so great and loves to see people appreciate the show.
The best thing about this series is that it doesn't need to tell you much in terms of the world/the lore, since its expanded upon it can get right into the story
To explain how Korra already knew 3 types of bending as a kid, the Avatar can already inherently bend all 4 elements. But he/she has to learn and master them properly one-by-one according to the sequence Water, Earth, Fire, Air, and loop. Back at ATLA, Aang tried to firebend prematurely when he met Jeong-Jeong.
I'm in my early 40's, and my dad is in his late 60's. We both watched Last Airbender and Legend of Korra back in 2017. We both loved both so much, I liked Last Airbender more, he liked Korra more. I'll be very interested to see how you two feel afterwards.
So something to know going into this show is that this show suffered from an issue that the last airbender did not. Nickelodeon purchased this series one season at a time, so the creators didn't want to foreshadow things that would not happen if the show was cancelled. So that magic of something from season one really fully coming around at the end is not as much there in this series. Having said that, I think the show is great. I never expected it to be better than the last airbender, so I feel like I was just ready to let it be its own thing and really enjoyed the journey. I'm excited to see you guys react to it.
Think of Republic City as the equivalent of 1920's New York in our world (there's a few instances where you'll even hear 1920's jazz inspired music in this season), which would put the original series around the time period of the 1870's in our world. The original series kind of operated like the Wild West, where you could have battles and there were practically no rules about where you could or couldn't bend. After the war ended, peace was restored and the nations started working together, technology and urbanization of the area that became Republic City exploded, and with urbanization comes government regulation and limitations about where people can or can't bend.
Personally I'm glad that viewers like me were forced to wait between the finale of ATLA and the premiere of LoK, cause the years that passed offered enough distance to where it felt somewhat natural to see how new things were in Korra. In our own lives we'd have also gone through a lot of change, especially if you were young. I for one went from secondary school to university in that space of time, yet it felt like a whole decade had past. I imagine jumping from one to the next right away would've felt so jarring, especially as an adult when time moves so differently.
Woo! Can't believe you've come this far! 🎉 8:59 - you're thinking about Kuzon, who was Aang's friend from the Fire Nation (before the War). Name is kind of similar, I guess. Aang's mentor in the Air Nomads was Monk Gyatso.
I just came here to give some love to this underrated series, I know you guys will appreciate this one, especially the later seasons can't wait for all your reactions
Kuzon was Aang's friend from the Fire Nation and the name he used while undercover in the Fire Nation school. Tenzin seems to be a more traditional Air Nomad name. (with the "zen" and all) EDIT: Gyatso was Aang's mentor.
In the first episodes of Aang, they went to air temple, and Aang open an Avatar room, with all previous avatar, then they realize how is the order. In most times, Korra is using a Inuits like clothes with blue (like Katara). I can imagine this 2 infos is base for you to know she is from Water tribe.
When I originally saw Avatar: The Last Airbender properly from beginning to end the first time, I fell in love. When I saw Legend of Korra, I fell in love all over again.
You are in one hell for a ride this is a good sequel show and many people don't like it but i hope you enjoy it and fun fact Tenzin is voice by J.K Simmons who was J. Jonah Jameson in the sam rami spider man trilogy
Glad your watching this!! Agree with what others have said; The hardest part is trying not to look at this in direct comparison to Last Airbender; It is in the same world, but its it own separate show with different themes, characters, and story structure!
As for the advancement of republic city it makes complete sense.... Since its all the nations working together as one there imagine how fast our world would have developed if we had control over these elements. Its the reason the fire nation was so advanced in the last series as they had control of fire which was massive benefit to move forward into the industrial age so take that and add control of the other elements
Also ppl over look this but it still took her a good 12 years to master 3 elements as yes it does show that she is able to water , earth and fire bend but she was but the time skip to when she is about 17 where she was doing her fire bending test so a long time but obviously most of that was off screen, but when ppl say so she got them well quick no it took her years , they already showed aang going around the world learning the elements so obviously they are not going to show that side again for a new series
There’s a light novel filled with events and information after avatar that happens before korra. To understand some things I recommend reading the light novel
I'm so excited that you guys chose to go into it immediately after ATLA, if you ever feel like it's getting dull, hang on! There are really good gems along the way.
Aang's friend wasn't Tenzin. The two friends we hear about are Bumi and Kuzon. And then his airbending mentor was Gyatso, which is actually interesting because the current Dalai Lama's name is Tenzin Gyatso.
Guru Pathik is the name of the man who knew Monk Gyatso and taught Aang the chakras to control the Avatar State. Aang's friends from 100 years ago are King Bumi and his Fire Nation friend Kuzon. Tenzin is a new name, from Tenzin Gyatso a Dalai Lama. Aang and Katara's children are in order: A son named Bumi - for King Bumi A daughter named Kya - for Sokka and Katara's mother Kya A son named Tenzin - for the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso Naga is indeed a Polar Bear Dog Zuko's mother is explained in the comics, but at the time when this episode released, the specific comic that explains her story hadn't released yet. So they put this in to mess with us fans. You will not find out about his mother in the show, only in the comic "The Search".
Boy, I just realised Katara loses her husband and like three years later they call her up and go "hey, your husband reincarnated into your tribe. Wanna come train her in waterbending, you're the best we have." That's some wildly mixed emotions stuff.
@@AdaWongRealBut there was Northern tribe, Southern tribe, and swamp as options for the next Avatar. A swampbender Avatar would have been fun and probably not discovered for a long time.
Aang actually died quite young by avatar standards. 100 years in the avatar state took it out on his body. For comparson, Kyoshi lived to be over 200, and Roku was totally healthy up until the volcano
Aang dying at 66 isn't that young. That's only a few years younger than Roku, who died at 70. Now, Avatar Kuruk dying at 33... But if he hadn't we wouldn't have gotten Avatar Kyoshi.
One thing that is covered in the comics but not in either of the two shows and I believe is very easily missed or forgotten, is that while Aang was in the ice for 100 years his body didnt age but his spirit was aging, so though he looked like a 10-12 year old kid and he technically was, his spirit was 112 years old.
Also just his body itself. He was in the Avatar State for 100 years. It takes a physical toll. Also I have a theory about why he died at 66 that concerns Season 2.
It’s never discussed in the show, but Aang did die of natural causes. It’s not unheard of for people in the avatar universe to have much longer lifespans. (Kyoshi reached 230 years old) But Aang only got to his 60’s. All that time he spent in the iceberg caused him to have an early death later on.
The creators confirmed that Aang died 54 years after the end of the series at 66 (166) and it was due to the 100 years in the Avatar State in the iceberg finally taking a toll on his body draining his life energy. Korra is 17 during season 1 so it's about 71 years since the end of Avatar. Also the silhouettes at the beginning doing the bending were the 4 most recent Avatars: Kyoshi is Earth, Roku is Fire, and adult version of Aang is Air, and Korra herself is water.
I’m glad that you realized the even though she is from the water tribe, her opposite isn’t fire. She actually finds firebending very intuitive and resorts to it often. Air is the opposite of her personality
Just wanna point out early on that Legend of Korra gets a lot of flack from "fans" that it's not as good as ATLA but a lot of "fans" don't realize that LoK received more budget cuts and pessimism from Nickelodeon for pushing the boundaries so the creators were limited in what they could do. It became so bad that for an entire season, Korra had to be taken off air and was uploaded exclusively online for the later seasons because its content was too mature. LoK has amazing stories and moments but suffered from a severe lack of funding and supolport, so enjoy the rest of the show with that in mind!!!!
There was no character name Tenzin in ATLA. You are thinking about monk Gyatso, who was Aang's teacher and Roku's friend when he was training. You may be getting it confused with the real person Gyatso was inspired by. BTW Tenzin's bison is name Oogie, who's name comes out of the ATLA comics.
Korra is Aang's direct successor. She is 17 in Season 1. TLOK takes place 70 years after ATLA. Aang's friend from the Fire Nation was Kuzon, not Tenzin. His monk mentor who was friends with Roku was Monk Gyatso. The only place you might have heard the name Tenzin is the real name of the real current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.
If you want to know the story between Aang and Korra shows, there are comics. They show you how it went from fantasy to 1920's world. Also, they explain what happend to Zuko's mother. You could read them on channel, or just for yourself, they aren't really that important for Legend of Korra, but they explain some questions you can have along the way about the world and characters Anyway, great reaction like always, love you guys, you bring so much joy whenever I see an upload! Love from Poland
have to keep in mind we watched this show 4 years after the end of ATLA, so we had a lot more time to sit with the OG show. I imagine it's pretty jarring to see this show a few days after finishing the first show
Yeah, since Aang was the only remaining Airbender, the only current living Airbenders are his direct family. In contrast, the world is full of Water, Earth and Firebenders like it always was.
I watched the full upload- I liked your thoughts afterwards! Yes the obvious kinda stuff of she's the opposite of Aang, her opposite of aang's personality explains why air is her last/hardest to master, that lack of zen. Why is the world like this, it feels less free, there's rules now. Her lack of the spiritual, tenzen's name and that being aangs friend, boomi, there being metal bending more prominent.
Having followed TLAB from my youth, and following LOK as it releases each episode, i actually preferred LOK. I loved LOK because it is very very adult themes, enough for it to be taken off Nickolodeon kids after season 1, and had to stream the rest of the seasons online instead. It isnt a perfect story but it is perfect enough for me, the way they handle the themes.
Same. There are some episodes of TLAB that I could watch over and over again because they are classics but I couldn't see myself sitting down to watch the entire series again. I could do that with Korra.
It also is important to note that ATLA was a Kids show through and through, but Korra is targeting a more of a teen and older audience, hence the different pacing as well as different focus on story because of that.
Also they had a limited budget for Korra Season1, the same goes for Season 2. S3 and S4 got a budget together, so the creators could go deeper into story, knowing the 4 Season us already secured. On the other hand S1+2 tried to end on a closing note and might feel a bit rushed. That was because the creators didn't know if Nickelodeon approves and funds an other Season of Korra.
This comment might rub some people the wrong way, but I think it was the right decision to not have Sokka in the story be cause if he was exactly the same way in the show if he were alive as he was in the previous show that would still put a lot of tonal whiplash into the show with this story the way that it is but also if you’re making too serious, then it’s not the same character anymore so it’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation
There is this talk about the world falling out of balance without the Avatar, but if I look at the villains of Korra, I would argue the absence of adult Sokka as a water tribe authority / republic city leader is a massive contributor to all of them getting as far as they did.
Don't worry guys!!! The Avatar universe is about to be expanded in ALL medias. Movies, comics etc. Some are planned for the adult GAang, outside of the main series.
*Message for TLOK fans* By the way people reminder that this is the first time they watch TLOK, so they probably will have different opinions about the story and charachters. This mostly because they haven’t got the full picture and knowledge about future episodes that we do, so please keep an open mind when you want to comment about what they say and think. Just keep the vibes up, which will probably keep the reaction more fun for them and us😅 It would be a shame if another reaction channel stops the reaction because of negative comments, so apreaciate your understanding Have a nice day and hope you have a great summer😊

IMPORTANT MOD MESSAGE SPECIFIC TO LEGEND OF KORRA- READ BEFORE POSTING:
********************************************************************************************
We are well aware of the heavy debate about these two shows. Please keep the ATLA vs TLOK debate and controversies at a minimum, preferably move them to the community LoK discord channel.. We want those watching the Korra reactions with S&P to have an enjoyable time within the community and throughout this experience, and not have to sift through a bunch of hostile and aggressive debating or attacking the show. It just ruins the vibe and the fun, and if enough of it occurs it can also color S&P's reactions and cause them to be less natural, the very thing we are here for. We also want to minimize this because these debates often result in someone posting major spoilers for content later in the show.
Thank you!
Oh if you guys want to know the story between tlok and tla then it's in the comics. Saying this just in case you expecting to find most of the answers in the show.
I’d recommend you not use captions if you can. They will spoil you accidentally in future episodes.
Korra!! I’ve been waiting for this one!
the same and opposite at the same time
@@oq1106 Totally agree!! In the avatar cycle, the next avatar will always look like the loved one of the previous avatar - Aang looks like Roku´s wife, and Korra looks like Katara.
Buh they do pass on some of their quirkiness like their enthusiasm to learn a new bending
Her fishing and cooking her own shows she can take care of herself in the wild, but city rules are strange to her.
I think it sort of gets explained later on
Still after so many years, Katara's "my brother and so many of my friends are gone" line still cuts me deep 😢
Always give me chills, as does the prologue sequence 🥹
The delivery on that line is insane
Aang passing the Avatar spirit to Korra had more loss with it. "as the passing of the seasons..."
i would have loved to see old man Sokka as a character 🙂
ikr granpa sokka would be so funny🥲
They are really going to enjoy the bending animations in Korra. The newer technology definitely showed out in this show. The fighting is crispy and the sub bending elements are dope as well.
its still the same studio who does the animation tho i believe, you can tell some style choises animation styles who were introduced towards the end of book 3 carried over to korra.
@@erenyeeagah204 Different studio (Studio Mir) but with lots of the same animators from ATLA
i would argue that the bending in ATLA is better, since the bending ATLA is in the ancient/original way
@@greatman5885Kinda but marital arts also evolve with time. I missed the old large bending moves but for a martial arts perspective it makes sense why most moves would be shortened with time to be quicker/more efficient
@@gabrieldossantos1116 i understand it if that is more your style. i'm just saying that i prefer the old bending styles
Fun Fact: The current Dalai Lama is called Tenzin Gyatso. It’s clear where the writers took their inspiration from.
Gyatso is the fatherly figure Aang had at the Southern Air Temple.
Tenzin is Aang’s son.
Gyatso is a common surname among Dalai Lamas.
Too bad he’s a creepy weirdo.
Nickelodeon really handled the whole avatar brand so poorly. So many odd decisions
@@saffronique well said :)
aang died earlier in his 60s because he used so much of his energy to stay alive in the iceberg.
if you think about the world of the last airbender things were already very advanced. they had airships, powered steam ships, giant drills, tanks, submarines and all sorts of stuff. considering this is 60 years later it makes sense that they would have advanced a little bit more to this point.
Not sure if you noticed, but when Korra looked at Aang's statue, it was a parallel like when Aang sae Roku's statue
They wouldn't notice anything that doesn't involve Zuko.
ah nice
Bro gaslighted himself into getting both Gyatso and Naga's names wrong I doubt they'd notice that 😂
@@silentassason 😂
Thanks for giving Korra a chance! Not all reactors do. I think you'll really enjoy it!
@@t3hi84n2gI don't think gender has anything to do with the hate at all considering atla has the best female characters
There's all sorts of reasons people don't like this show. When they do say that too you, ask them how far in the show they got. I doubt they got to season 3, which I love.
@@t3hi84n2gthis has nothing to be with gender geeezz. had korra been a boy, this series would still be hated and compared to the first series.
One of the main things Korra has to deal with is that she’s always been “kept safe”, as in, only ever saw the water tribe she was from. It’s why she’s so eager to learn new things

Thank you!
So glad we're going straight into Korra ❤
If you switch some letters you get; Aang. 🤯
"She's the opposite of Aang!"
Kinda. I have a personal theory that each Avatar is a 160 from the Avatar RIGHT before them:
Kuruk was laid back, so Kyoshi was strict and disciplined.
Yes, in the second season it will be obvious - the next avatars are always subconciously trying to fix the regrets of the previous ones.
Do you mean a 180?
@@dapeach06 Nope, cause they're not exact opposites of the previous one. Otherwise, there'd only be two types of Avatars that we'd see.
@@dapeach06 Nah, with a 180 you get a periodicity of 2, that's only two different avatars, with 160 you get 9 whole different personalities xD
You've already picked up on it but yes, the Zuko parallels are very important to Korra as a character, something many people seem to miss
she's a bending prodigy like Azula and good natured yet confused and impatient like Zuko.
@@daekry Exactly, I think many overlook that and I've seen a lot of people not liking the show or liking her as a character because they don't like that she is so different from Aang but that's what makes her journey interesting as she is basically the opposite of Aang.
The music for Korra is so beautiful ❤
Jeremy Zuckerman really did great with Korra
Another contrast between the two is their upbringing and circumstances.
Aang was missing his people and hardly had anyone to rely on to learn what he needed (remember his struggle to find someone to teach him Earth and Fire?). He and the gang, very early on if you remember, sometimes struggled to scrape enough coins together to buy food.
Korra, on the other hand, is well looked after, but also very sheltered, basically the opposite problem to Aang.
200 years old in the Avatar world isnt to crazy, Kyoshi was 230 and Guru Pathik was 150
I'm sorry what lmao. Didn't know that
It's shown in Kyoshi's novels that she learns an ability to slow the aging process down as a teenager. Doing that her whole life is what got her to 230. It's actually not common at all.
Omg 2 ppl got very old
So common 😭💀💀
The physical comedy in this show is underrated
Katara caught Korra sneaking off to start her journey the same way Gran gran caught Katara when she was young with her brother. Both Katara and Gran Gran were expected to be mad but gave their blessings with smiles and supplies. Full circle
If you want to know what happened to Zuko's mom, look into reading
"The Promise" and "The Search" comics. They're official avatar comics that take place in the aftermath of the war!
If you want to know the story of Zuko's mother, you'll have to read the comics in "The Search."
Tenzin's air bison is called Oogie, because his uncle Sokka would always say that Aang and Katara being cutsie with each other gave him the Oogies. His bison is named after his uncle's word for his parent's love.
That's beautiful! Where was that mentioned?
@@okyeawtf comics, more implied than said, as we see Sokka telling them they're giving him the Oogies a few times. We never get the story from Tenzin. I think Sokka says it in The Search and/or The Promise.
I love how you started off unsure about how successful watching avatar would be for the channel. But now to hear you say it was a key part in making you full time creators...idk it just makes my heart so full to hear that. The avatar community is so great and loves to see people appreciate the show.
I knew Spartan would like how aggressive Korra is
The best thing about this series is that it doesn't need to tell you much in terms of the world/the lore, since its expanded upon it can get right into the story
As Aang grew older. (About his 50s) his time in the iceberg caught up to him. He began to age very rapidly and died in his early 60s.
Im rewatching these again on youtube aha
I love Korra man
I'm in my early 40's, and my dad is in his late 60's.
31:37 i believe the monk that Aang knew was "Monk Gyatso"
Woo! Can't believe you've come this far! 🎉
8:59 - you're thinking about Kuzon, who was Aang's friend from the Fire Nation (before the War). Name is kind of similar, I guess.
Aang's mentor in the Air Nomads was Monk Gyatso.
We've already seen Toph's kid - it was the police chief, Lin Beiphong. Explains why the cops are metalbenders.
I just came here to give some love to this underrated series, I know you guys will appreciate this one, especially the later seasons can't wait for all your reactions
I just loved watching them react to a new Avatar world. I think they will love Korra as well.
Kuzon was Aang's friend from the Fire Nation and the name he used while undercover in the Fire Nation school.
Tenzin seems to be a more traditional Air Nomad name. (with the "zen" and all)
EDIT: Gyatso was Aang's mentor.
Tenzin Gyatso is the name of the Dalai Lama, leader of Tibetan buddism
In the first episodes of Aang, they went to air temple, and Aang open an Avatar room, with all previous avatar, then they realize how is the order.
In most times, Korra is using a Inuits like clothes with blue (like Katara).
I can imagine this 2 infos is base for you to know she is from Water tribe.
When I originally saw Avatar: The Last Airbender properly from beginning to end the first time, I fell in love. When I saw Legend of Korra, I fell in love all over again.
10:55 people sometimes forget that Aang has to be dead for Korra to be alive lmao
Tenzin, is easily my favorite character of this series.
In the comics, Ty Lee and Suki are like besties and even became Zuko's Guardssss
Tenzin's Sky Bison named after what he feels when Aang and Katara being romantic to each other "Oogies" XD
Spartan you'll love that Korra wants the smoke at all times😂
“My brother and many of my friends are gone” tears every time 😩
Also ppl over look this but it still took her a good 12 years to master 3 elements as yes it does show that she is able to water , earth and fire bend but she was but the time skip to when she is about 17 where she was doing her fire bending test so a long time but obviously most of that was off screen, but when ppl say so she got them well quick no it took her years , they already showed aang going around the world learning the elements so obviously they are not going to show that side again for a new series
Tenzin is named after one of the Dahli Lamas, Tenzin Gyatso
There’s a light novel filled with events and information after avatar that happens before korra. To understand some things I recommend reading the light novel
I'm so excited that you guys chose to go into it immediately after ATLA, if you ever feel like it's getting dull, hang on! There are really good gems along the way.
Aang's friend wasn't Tenzin. The two friends we hear about are Bumi and Kuzon. And then his airbending mentor was Gyatso, which is actually interesting because the current Dalai Lama's name is Tenzin Gyatso.
Elderly Katara is voiced by Eva Marie Saint, the lady from Hitchcock thriller North by Northwest
tripple threat triads. its a small detail, but they call themselves that, since they are formed by all the bending types except air.
You're about to meet the scariest villain in all of Avatar. He's my second favorite villain, second only to Azula 😊
Aang and Katara's children are in order:
A son named Bumi - for King Bumi
A daughter named Kya - for Sokka and Katara's mother Kya
A son named Tenzin - for the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso
Naga is indeed a Polar Bear Dog
Zuko's mother is explained in the comics, but at the time when this episode released, the specific comic that explains her story hadn't released yet. So they put this in to mess with us fans. You will not find out about his mother in the show, only in the comic "The Search".
You have no idea how banger of season 1 is. You are going to love it
season 3 is definitely my favourite season of Korra. Something to look forward too for sure
Boy, I just realised Katara loses her husband and like three years later they call her up and go "hey, your husband reincarnated into your tribe. Wanna come train her in waterbending, you're the best we have." That's some wildly mixed emotions stuff.
@@AdaWongRealI think the reincarnation is more immediate. The next Avatar is born as the old one dies, according to Roku’s story of his own death.
Not really. Spiritually he was the same before the iceberg. Wise children exist
Not sure how much wisdom one attains while frozen in a block of ice. 😂
Did we watch the same ATLA? Lmao Aang was very much a child forced to grow up in a very short amount of time
Life force would be a more apt descriptor than spirit. It’s his life force that was used up in the ice berg
I knew Spartan would like Korra. She is an amazing character.
This show has some great moments for sure. And that maturity you wait for in Avatar is pretty much here from the start.
You could read them on channel, or just for yourself, they aren't really that important for Legend of Korra, but they explain some questions you can have along the way about the world and characters
Anyway, great reaction like always, love you guys, you bring so much joy whenever I see an upload!
Love from Poland
Notice how fire is more of Korra’s go to element than water
If u guys didn’t realize in Atla it was set around 1830’s and Korra is around 1920’s ish
"She's already a weapon." sums it up kind of well. For better and for worse, Korra did not get a normal childhood or adolescence.
the cycle of the Avatar is based on the cycle of four seasons.
Winter for Water
Spring for Earth
Summer for Fire
Autumn for Air
7:57 "...she's already a weapon." that's really well said and definitely a theme throughout the series.
have to keep in mind we watched this show 4 years after the end of ATLA, so we had a lot more time to sit with the OG show. I imagine it's pretty jarring to see this show a few days after finishing the first show
Yeah, since Aang was the only remaining Airbender, the only current living Airbenders are his direct family. In contrast, the world is full of Water, Earth and Firebenders like it always was.
The necklaaace the neck lays the necklais 😂😂🤣
You guys have picked up on all the core character traits that drive the series and make it different from ATLA. I think you'll really like it.
This show makes me happy, from Baby Korra bursting onto the scene to all the updates to the world.
I’m so excited for the Korra reactions. While I liked airbender a lot, I loved Korra even more.
I got chills hearing tenzin and the opening song
29:25 Spartan speaks about bending derivatives.
Me, trying to hold in future knowledge.
The best Avatar show of all time has begun and haters gotta deal with it.😊😊
Don't worry guys!!! The Avatar universe is about to be expanded in ALL medias. Movies, comics etc. Some are planned for the adult GAang, outside of the main series.
*Message for TLOK fans*
By the way people reminder that this is the first time they watch TLOK, so they probably will have different opinions about the story and charachters. This mostly because they haven’t got the full picture and knowledge about future episodes that we do, so please keep an open mind when you want to comment about what they say and think. Just keep the vibes up, which will probably keep the reaction more fun for them and us😅
It would be a shame if another reaction channel stops the reaction because of negative comments, so apreaciate your understanding
Have a nice day and hope you have a great summer😊
