I commuted in my Arcimoto FUV through the first Winter I owned it (2019-2020, before moving to work-from-home in March 2020,) in "similar to London" winter conditions. A medium weight jacket, gloves, and a cap, and the heated seats and grips were plenty. Mine had the "half doors" which kept other cars from splashing water on me effectively, and just moving forward, the aerodynamics were enough to keep "normal rain" from hitting me. Only at stop lights would rain falling hit my elbows unless there was strong wind blowing the rain sideways in.
In a true similar to London scenario, your average speed would be 11mph so you’d get much wetter. Traffic in London moves at a snails pace, the Renault Twizzy didn’t sell in large numbers in the U.K. despite it’s suitability for urban transport. This led to Renault discontinuing it here. Given the price of the Acimotor, if it was ever brought here I don’t think it would sell particularly well either, given that if Renault decided to sell the Dacia Spring here it would be cheaper and more practical. I can’t ever see this type of vehicle ever being more than a niche form of transport. The Citroen Ami electric sells well in France because their laws allow it to be driven by 14 year olds and people without licences (like those that have lost them through drink driving offences). Here, now that the government has dropped its ev grant they will go on sale for £7500, a lot more than the 6000€ they were sold for in France so I doubt other than in London that they’ll sell well here either, especially as they are left hand drive and limited to 28mph. What we need are the small Chinese cars that are cheap, can seat four people and do 60mph and 100 miles of range. They really would sell well given the current financial conditions.
It looks so much fun! I don‘t think it‘d be the right choice for my region, though, where we get to “enjoy” six months of winter, and luckily, quite a bit of rain still.
@@sergentcolon1 Hey you sour old naysayer, if your average speed is 11 that means you are doing something wrong both as an individual and as a country. Use more busses and trains.
@@sergentcolon1 The next gen vehicle is supposed to come in around $12k. This thing is a lot more responsive than the twizzy. And actually capable of beating people off the lights.
@@sergentcolon1 Agree, why do people need 2.5 tonne tanks to go to the shops/school?
My parents drive a Arcimoto Fun Utility Vehicle in Medford Oregon and like it! It really is fun to ride around in. Takes a little getting used to driving.
Range and speed surprised me! The design even with the storage compartment, nice nice nice
What about the FUV?
@@smallik81 That's exactly what London was talking about. I own one. It is perfect when you want a low consumption highly sustainable vehicle.
Love your vids bro
This is the first video I've watched that really captured the fun factor of driving the Arcimoto. Awesome!
I can confirm that the top speed is higher than 75 MPH. 😀
Range is..... "not good" at that speed.
Btw, they can go faster than 75. I got mine up to 87mph on flat road once
Rappiidddddd
Great review delivered with your enthusiastic style!
Brilliant video, really great presenting and filming.
Reminds me of the Carver I test drove at Fully Charged. That is a UK equivalent of this. Loads of fun 😄
I can 100% see NHS paramedics or emergancy doctors using that FUV for call outs that don't require a full ambulance.
College campus responder is one good use for it.
I rented an FUV from REEFdrive earlier this year and am very happy to see they're still around. Loved all the attention it got and will love to rent again when I'm back in LA
That looks so much fun and safe!
Well relatively safe. I think if you flipped it, your head could hit the pavement and being T-boned or head on in that thing would be suboptimal for survival. Safer than a motorbike, less safe than a car.
I'm surprised and impressed.
your smiles on the freeway were infectious :) :) :) nicely done :)
Brilliant little grocery getter. Definitely more stable than a Reliant Robin which had its trike wheels the wrong way round. Still wouldn’t go tearing around corners at 75 mph though. Welcome to sunny California Eilis. ☀️
Seems like a fun ride you had
Cool to see Eilis in my hometown!
100% agree, You brought us a huge smile. thanks for the fun. 👍👍👍👍
We love these companies that dare to standout from the masses like the lightweight Xbus, Aptera and this Arcimoto. (wonder how that holds up in rainy Netherlands)
That is a good way to the future. Less material, less energy. Sad that is again a city car.
Xbus will be a better alrounder with a usable range of 200 to 600 km (depends on the version with battery packs.), and with starting price of €18.500 a great bargain.
We will wait for it to come out in 2023.
You can get them with half doors that protects a bit from rain. They are working on full doors and AC/heat too.
Can you add metric conversions next time? For us folks who grew up using kph instead of mph, meters instead of feet or kilos over pounds, it’s a big help for us so we can relate.
If only there was a device where you could input numbers, then perform a calculation to come up with a different number. I imagine that would be really useful.
That is a low prioroty as this vehicle is targeting the US market only, for years to come.
@@maxflight777 We looked at that several times. The majority resisted. Remember that though this is a UK channel, it is on a US website created with US intellectual property. And it will be years before any of these will be sold in the UK. The FUV uses metric fasteners.
@@popeyegordon let's not forget that if it wasn't for Brit at CERN in Europe, you wouldn't have the internet. But you can also bet that RUclips is spread across the world in multiple different countries, on hardware produced in places not called America.

Looks like fun, would be perfect for UK and Irish weather if it had a roll down side panels for the rain.
It does try a search.
@@chrisbailey1966 No it does not. No panels available. But we stay dry in rain while moving. A wrap around windshield and roof with rain gutters is a dryer experiecnce than can be had with half a billion motorcycles and scooters.
I like Eilis!
I swallowed a bug just watching. Great report as ever; amazing presenter. This woman could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo ... Wow right? How do pheromones transit the internet? I will never know.
The EU and Britain should be jumping all over the Aptera. Take a trip and visit that next.
Aptera would not fit on many British roads. It's way too wide. Love the Aptera, but it's just not practical in many locations due to its width.
Nice video. We’ll done.
Lots of ticks with the design and capability. The price isn't crazy either, as that works out at under £15k. Good luck to them.
I just wished the mainstream manufacturers were more attuned to this sort of sized vehicle. So many fat SUV with only one person in.
Right solution, wrong price. $17K is too steep. That said it’s a unique proposition at the moment so probably price is adjusted to that and the initial low volume production. Overall: well done Reef and looking forward to competitors.
To honestly and properly summarize, the average price of a new car in the US in 2022 is $46,000!! Too steep my ass, the $18K price for the Arcimoto is a bargain where less is more. No more gas or oil changes, 80% cheaper insurance, same safety as any small car. No emissions.
It’s 17k now. When they open the new factory and ramp production it is planned to reduce to only 12k which is very reasonable.
@@moodtherapist Full disclosure - it is $17,900 now and all the talk about a $12K goal was from several years ago in 2019 dollars. The same value in 2024 will equal about $14K due to inflation.
I would like to invite you to look at a can am spyder. It sells pretty well and it starts at $18499 (without any extra). It uses gas and requires oil and transmission fluid change for maintenance. At $17900, a fuv is a steal 🤷♂️
2 m^2 of solar-roof would be perfect addition.
The roof area is quite narrow and small. Room for only 100 watts of solar which is not even enough to replace the built in loss of 1% of the battery charge every day due to internal parasitic drains. If there was also a flat trunk and hood area the math would be different but it is still a narrow vehicle with an intentionally small footprint.
Excellent.
When likely to enter Indian Market please?
Not for many years, if ever. India desperately needs to make light EVs to replace those awful tuktuks.
Do u plan such model of jet skis
How to make this thing perfect
1. Solar panels instead of the glass top
To block sun so you don't always have to be wearing sun screen to ride this thing and get some charge
2. A slighty wider top that curves down so when it rains it still blocks you on the sides also That way you can keep it door free
3. Put removable door/panels on the rear seating so that when you don't have a passenger it can be a big ass storage section
Some great observations there
1) This vehicle self discharges a full kilowatt hour daily while parked. That small roof does not have enough space for useful solar. The polycarbonate roof and windshield are UV filtering. Many owners decide to add limo tint to the roof and a tinted roof will be offered soon.
2) A wider roof would cause you to bump your head as you enter and exit. It has rain gutters.
3) I removed my rear seat and harness and foot mats which reduced weight by 65 pounds. I then used cargo webbing to enclose the rear area for piles of cargo. I also have the locking water tight trunk. You can buy the Deliverator version with considerable locked and dry cargo space.
@@popeyegordon 1. any solar is useful
2. And I've seen people ride it in the rain it definitely needs a lil more protection, rain doesn't solely come from above you wind moves it at an angle
3. That's cool, and I hope you're having a shit ton of fun with yours it's a cool vehicle I'm just saying lil things to add in a sequel
@@Jovanny_pcpp 1 debunked) no, 'any' solar is not useful when the charge rate needed is 20 times greater. And any solar will up the base price, discouraging more sales.
2 debunked) You can not see any riders in the rain on RUclips videos who got wet. Those two videos praise the dry ride where a light rain geat is optional. You totally overlooked the fact that driving creates an air dam around the front of the vehicle. I stay bone dry in hard rain and as long as I am moving, a cross wind is not strong enough to get my elbows damp
3 debunked ) you are personally deciding you know a lot more about this vehicle you have never driven or owned than those who have. What bullshit.
@@popeyegordon sorry I cant afford a 17,000$ scooter
Obviously I'm guessing off a thing I don't own I'm not a rich prick like you
Guess it depends on your requirements but actually it would suit mine quite well. Much cooler and quicker than an Ami (which would probably also suit me) but it would be difficult to justify the extra price
Arcimoto is based in Eugene, Oregon. Climate more similar to UK than Southern California.
We have a 2017 Fiat 500e, which is really superior to this in many ways. We bought it used for $10k. It has doors, a/c, heater. More luggage space that is enclosed so the dogs won’t fall out. Top speed of 88mph & is comfortable at that speed. 90 miles range. Super small & easy to park. Definitely appreciate the smallness when just running errands around town
But, is it fun? 🙃
Nah I'd rather have this...way more interesting, fun, and made in America
I wish I had bought one before used cars got so expensive. Those were going for $17K, I hear the used car market has cooled a bit. I should check again soon.
Your Fiat costs you an average of $800 more per year for insurance than the Arcimoto. You have no warranty and more moving parts. You have to pay for gas and oil changes. You have two empty rear seats making the vehicle weigh far more than needed for most owners. The top speed of the Arcimoto is identical to your Fiat and it has 10 miles more range. The FUV can be bought with doors and a pet cage is easy to find. I have a locking trunk and the entire passenger section is a cargo hold for me. I enclosed it with cargo webbing.
@@popeyegordon Note that the 500e is electric, otherwise your comment is valid. Do you remove the rear seat in your Arcimoto for cargo? If so, how long does it take? I would like to be able to carry more cargo than the Arcimoto as shipped, but still have the option of a passenger seat if needed.
There are probably plenty of people that have bought electric cars for commuting, when this sort of thing would be much better for their pocket, the environment and congestion.
3:10 white seat cover might help alot.
Definitely cheaper than Eilis's idea for UV filtering windows 😂
@@Electroheads Bacofoil™ isn't so expensive, even think I've got some 'round here ...needs a wash
Looks like something that CanAm would come up with. ( I happen to ride a Spyder).
And you have no crash cage or six point harness, no heated seats and hand grips and defroster. You still burn fossil fuel.
I'm close to their HQ and I really wish they'd put some doors on for all the rain we get here. Could maybe double or be replaceable with a sunshade of sorts too?
Sales are brisk in rainy Oregon and Wasington. Watch the videos showing how dry we stay in rain. Not one single drop gets to me while I am driving. The pressure wave parts the rain.
Neat but niche I reckon. We have Paxster here, used throughout the country regardless of weather for mail. 🇳🇿. Paxster has better utility but urban performance only, and they fit on foot paths. Micro logistics electric vehicle.
The Paxter serves a different demand as a light slow delivery vehicle. In the US we have laws against using bike paths for motorized vehicles that can not be pedaled as well.
Could you add metric units on your next videos too please ? 🤗
Now do a review on it in the UK in January.
Not marketed in the UK. But it is in fact selling good in states with winters colder than yours.
Can we get one in the uk and can you insure and drive on the ready legally?
Someone has imported one and got it registered in New Zealand. Probably have to jump through hoops to get it done but seems a possibility.
Which brand is your sunglasses 😎??
Where to buy it to ship to georgia
Yeah the open sides is a deal breaker for me especially since thethe company’s m main head quarters is in Portland Oregon! It never stops raining here! And the price is way too high for an open vehicle like that! Other than those things i love it!
Check out the Arcimoto Roadster!!!
I am interested in the development of raised bike and EV ways around cities. They will act as through-roads for efficient transport that make their use safer, faster and generally more attractive. Users would be able to entirely avoid sharing busy roads with full sized vehicles. I appreciate the Arcimoto design for bridging the gap, so to speak, but I believe an ultra light, perhaps even folding version is all that would be needed on suitably designed raised trails.
High speeds don't mix with bike paths. But Arcimoto's new MLM is the ultimate ebike that is safe for trails and paths. It is a pipe dream to think there could ever be enough trails to avoid all car traffic. Only possible in carefully planned new communities. I used Seattle's fully integrated bike path system to communte, still needed to deal with side road traffic and some heavier traffic.
@@popeyegordonwhy so negative about something novel to you? As if I hadn't ever thought about any of those concerns? And it is almost literally a pipe dream! And conceived specifically to cheaply overlie existing cities. Bikes and scooters doing 25kph (say) in one section, bigger buggies and commuter trolleys doing 45kph (say) in another. Access points everywhere, from quiet suburban streets to CBDs and car parks in hubs etc. The point is to make UL options safe and fast across town by removing the need to conflict with existing heavy surface traffic.
@@hogey74 NOT THE LEAST BIT NOVEL TO ME!!! I was an ebike commuter on Seattle's elaborate trail system for a decade. I have been a corporate bike club president. I have been a corporate commute reduction representative. After all of that I still have the last ten years of ebiking in retirement before I bought my Arcimoto. YOU are some kind of space case who never bothered to learn about the existing state standards of class 1, 2 & 3 ebikes and where they may be used.
"Raised trails" are a Disneyland pipe dream except where they took over existing rail trestles. Seattle's bike path system relies heavily on rail to trail conversions. No city can budget for such a gigantic undertaking as you fantasize about. You never bothered to think through the very steep and treacherous entry and exit ramps for such a system which wheelchairs and many bikes would struggle to use. The only raised trails in Seattle that were purpose built were to get trail users over and across freeway systems. Some actually needed elevators to access the required height. They were funded as part of the bus system's budget.
Decent!
I hope Arcimoto is a big success but I think the lower they can keep the price the more likely the FUV is likely to replace the "second" vehicle in many households.
I love your accent
i like it,better than an electric bike
⚡ *Lotta range and speed for a small EV* 👀⚡
Musta been ridiculously fun to drive around in that!!
I'd wear a helmet just to protect myself from debris flyin up from other cars at that speed, a random piece from a car even 😱
Your comment is absolute nonsense. I corrected you for this same crap under another video. Debris does not routinely or even rarely fly in through an open car window or break a closed one. Simply not a reasonable possibility. A helmet in the Arcimoto only will increase your chance of a neck injury from its added momentum in a collision. Grow up and get rid of the skateboard.
We have the extremes of the market covered now, but what about a compact, normal car with decent range and specs that can be considered within the "affordable" bracket by the masses?
How has no one produced this yet?
and how was that NOT a priority from the first vehicles. Remote boot opening? Camping mode? Why? Get the basics, introduce the rest when the battery tech improves.
Not in your country nor mine but yes there are plenty sub 25k
Dacia Spring, if they ever decide to sell it in the U.K.
'Normal' 4 passenger cars are killing our biome. They are most often driven with one or two and an empty trunk on short trips, enter Arcimoto's more efficient design.

The roof area is quite narrow and small. Room for only 100 watts of solar which is not even enough to replace the built in loss of 1% of the battery charge every day due to internal parasitic drains. If the 'Dutch Solar' version costs less that is because it offers less. Does it have 80 mph top speed, crash cage and 6 point harnesses?

Not practical for a small startup considering how few owners want to abuse our resources to drive more than the battery range each day. Your idea is better for commercial fleets. The goal of Arcimoto is to DOWNSCALE transportation.
Motorbikes with modified exhuasts - my number one hate.
It isn't the British flags, it's the English flags lol
This looks like the grown up version of my neighbor's Organic Transit ELF. He seems to like his trike, but the lights are atrociously bad. Like old school C cell battery flashlights (torches) bad. The OT logo on it looks so much like a Toyota badge I am surprised they didn't get sued.
You did us a disfavor by deciding to judge all 900 ELF owners based on just one who did not bother to install the upgraded headlights on his early model. Most of us did and got four times the brightness. The trademark is registered so don't go there. I drove my ELF as my only transportation for 7 years and did half of that in summer nights here in Florida. My lights are so bright I get blinked at a lot. It will need doors in the uk
I like the us only fact.
They could add doors for international version.
Those doors probably add some range as aerodynamics supposed to improve.
Doors available now
Testing revealed no real world change in range. The plastic doors have no function except as a security blanket for conditioned car drivers. Any streamlining is offset by the reduced battery range due to increased weight. With an airplane this might pencil out differently.
