Arcimoto FUV Review! Is this the most fun Electric Vehicle for Under $20K?

- I drive the Arcimoto FUV electric vehicle on at the Electric Vehicle Summit in Pasadena California. This "Fun Utility Vehicle" would fit very well in most households that just need a simple no thrills commuter vehicle that is very budget friendly.

I have nearly 8000 miles in eight months commuting with an FUV in SoCal. I'm having so much fun, it feels like I'm cheating. No more weekly trips to buy gas, free rock star parking and charging at work, 83 MPH on the freeway. Cheap and easy way to electrify my commute. A viable EV option for many, but not all.
CONGRATS 🎉🍾🎊
He says 75MPH
@@tasd5673 That is only the stated maximum speed. Actual freeway maximum speed for me is 83 mph. It is fairly sketchy for newbies going so fast on a SoCal freeway with everyone blasting past you at 85+ mph. Eventually you get used to it, but defensive driving skills are mandatory.
@@barnabasseadog7660 wow that is fast
Here in Australia this nanny state doesn’t let you go that fast “for your safety “🤦
@@barnabasseadog7660 Mine hits 84 because I removed the rear seat, harness and foot mats, reducing weight by 60 pounds. You can feel the difference in pep.
MY parents own an Arcimoto FUV and absolutely love it. The weather here in Medford Oregon is moderate and rarely snows.
Bikers don't care if it's cold or wet and not always warm and sunny, they want to feel the elements. But they care about safety and this thing doesn't easily slip out and fall over, something that also older ex-bikers would appreciate, or new dads who are not allowed to ride dangerous bikes anymore.
Given the cost of new cars these days I think the FUV makes more and more sense as a second vehicle, especially if they can keep the out-the-door price under $20,000. I'd love to see an Arcimoto dealership or shop in Pensacola.
THANKS FOR SHARING THIS INFO ℹ️…AND DEFINITELY 👍 GREAT FOR WARMER CLIMATES 💚💚💚
Pfff, I use it in Oregon when it’s pouring rain and in the 20s. I have zippered uppers, heated seats and grips.
An owner in the Rockies bought his in winter, drove in all snow and ice conditions for 3 months, posted videos and photos of that at YT and at FB. Wrap around windshield and roof cut wind chill way down along with the heated seats and grips.
Just seen this vehicle pop up in my area (akron ohio) selling around 20k which I'm sure is a great deal, looks so fun
Nimbus 1 EV is half the price of this, fully enclosed, narrower so you can lane split / filter and appeals a lot more to me than this.
That nimbus looks too small to safely traverse American roads with other larger SUVs and trucks!
Here’s a revelation: not all roads are American and full of SUVs.
@@oliverpolden here's another revelation for you: Nimbus is an American company driving their cars in America 🤡
this would be great in tropic country if this has hotswap batteries and hotswap station
why no windows to make it enclosed???
looks like it has seat and hand warmers. Just treat your attire as if you were going snowmobile riding. Just hope it starts if sitting 8 hrs unplugged.
Technically, it's a great vehicle. However, at ~20K I believe it's too expensive to be bought massively. Bring its price down to half, and it will sell like freshly baked bread.
So your 45,000 car gets back and forth to work cheaper that a 20,000 then one of these at o.$ add a 3,000 off grid solar power generator including a 200wh battery for a total of 24,000, 0, $$$$$$ all year long. To the beach, the grocery store, your workplace, buy two your family of four can go shopping or anywhere in your city.
Interesting
Hi Kyle.
Could get a model S p75d for that price, even less!
Does this qualify for federal ev tax credit?
No but they are working to resolve that oversight.
I have a very small position and looking to buy some more to lower by buy in I’m at $3.40
There is a separate channel for Arcimoto investors. I don't give a shit about stocks and I prefer to actually earn my money instead of stealing it from the paychecks and benefit packages of workers, which is what stocks do. I invested in the American worker by buying my Arcimoto.
I prefer the Renault Twizzy.
To expensive for what they are. 10k is the sweet spot.
do you need a license to drvie a Arcimoto electric scooter
Right Now I Am Looking 4 A three-wheel electric scooter that doesn't need a driver license my friends
It depends on the state.
Readers be aware this oddball has asked similar questions under other Arcimoto videos going back many weeks. I have already set him straight about what an autocycle is but he has drain bammage that lets him confuse light low speed trikes and small e-scooters with highway speed capable autocycles. There is a good reason he can't get a driver license but he has not revealed what that is. He ends every post with 'my friends' instead of a period. His channel page reveals an obsession with "Anime Romance".

@@popeyegordon - I Am A Odd Ball 4 Asking A Question
@@AnimeAndrew1983 Yes you are an extreme oddball for asking the same question I fully answered 10 days ago. I explained in detail why you are way off in thinking you could ever drive a 1300 pound 80mph velomobile without a license. It is nuts to even ask. How can you not understand the reason for the requirement of drivers licenses?? Did you totally forget our discussion? Did you think I was lying? Did you think at all? You were really obstinate then and still acting like your concern could possibly be in the realm of possibility today.
Calling the Arcimoto an electric scooter was a red flag. This is not a 100 pound imported Chinese kids' toy for riding on sidewalks!
Come in ethiopia shop
Needs real doors. Other than that I think it would be great.
The thing is where can you freaking buy the dam thing!
I wish it had pedal accelerator and brake; not the hand operated ones. Use the NACS charging plug. And the ability to drive on the Interstate...top speed of 120 mph and a range of 350 miles. It does have a fully enclosed A/C option right?
$19,000? Too much money for this vehicle. Buying a small car under $20,000 would be a better choice.
I would go for this yet I wish some one made a petrol version of this so you have true range.
this should cost $8k MAX!
For that much money you could buy a Nissan Versa, Hyundai Accent, or a Kia Rio. Small-scale hand-built vehicles are not financially efficient.
Thanks for the breaking news
And every mile with one of those economy cars you would be having way less fun and you would be spending more money on fuel, more money on insurance/registration (FUV is registered/insured as a motorcycle). The FUV pays for itself after ~5 years. Some people want cheap and fun and unique transportation. Not to just blend in with a boring car that will need gasoline for the next 20 years.
And the cost of operating any of those vehicles will be 80% more than the Arcimoto.
It cost less than $2 a day to charge this thing. And it will never need an oil change, or exhaust work. It does not have a transmission to fail. There are only 5 moving parts in the entire drive train. And batteries these days are lasting a lot longer than they used to with the thermal management systems now employed.
Christopher made an innumerate claim. Unless you always have to fill every seat with every trip in those vehicles, the FUV is far more economical. I give $132/yr for a good Allstate policy, that motorcycle rate saves me $900 every year, year after year. I didn't even notice the difference on my power bill when I started plugging it in every night at home. I can't afford any car, even an old junker, on my modest pension but the Arcimoto pays for itself in just 8 years compared to owning any car. It is the first new vehicle I ever bought and fun every time I drive it. In my lifetime I have had two cars go straight to the junk yard when their timing belts broke.
19,000 is too much, especially for something that's not fully enclosed. They need to be perhaps 2-3 times the cost of a high speed electric scooter: 8000-12000.
I don't understand the thought of not enclosing it... I mean they put doors on one model but didn't put a clear window on it to protect against the elements. I probably would have bought this as a 3rd commuter vehicle to save my Silverado 1500 some ware and on gas if that was an option. I think that's a huge oversight by this company
Kinda looks like the con-man owned Elio.
I like them, but NOT for a freeway. The risk is too great…
Eh, people drive motorcycles on the freeway that have way less protection. Heck, some older four-wheel cars are probably less safe.
Same safety as any small car. Formula one racing safety system - certified crash cage with 6 point harness. No helmet or air bags required. No vehicle is 100% safe unless you don't drive it.
It's quite sketchy at first, but eventually you get used to it and learn to handle it like a boss. If you already drive defensively, the FUV turns you into a traffic ninja.
Still $10,000 too expensive. A joke, like many other EV offerings.
"Affordable" EV he says. MSRP is $20,000. Thats $617.54 every month with a 7% loan for 3 years. For a "Fun Utility Vehicle"....
Subtract the $2-300 a month in gas the average driver uses and that's not bad. Some states will even give you a $500-1,500 tax credit depending upon your income level. My neighbor was driving one of these yesterday and my biggest complaint would be the battery needs to be bigger. There are ebikes that come with bigger batteries for a quarter the money.
@@140theguy and that is a fair critique if you live in California. I live in Florida so our gas is half California's price....
What happened with no more than 11K price got greedy share holders ?
There was never a goal of "no more than 11K price". You made that up. There was the stated goal of a $12K mass produced version described in 2018 with 2018 dollars which did not include the optional $750 trunk. In 2025, inflation will make that 12K goal a price of around $15K including a trunk which has become standard, not optional.
Share holders had, and still have, no direct influence on inflation. The simplified lower cost version that can be assembled by automation is not ready yet. By the time it is ready, battery technology will have improved, meaning that model will have more range and will no longer be the same as what was discussed in 2018.
@@popeyegordon thank you
Can I get one with a 750cc engine?
No, they're EV-only.
Damn.
Hell no. That would defeat the whole purpose of the design.
Well, actually. Arcimoto bought a company called Tilting Motorcycles or similar a few years back. TM produces a kit that replace the front wheel on a standard motorcycle with a dual-wheel thingy with a builtin stabiliser. I do not know the price.
@@JanBruunAndersen Yeah, but the two are completely separate. They had started developing a new smaller vehicle that used the Tilting Motor Works tech. The FUV doesn’t use it. And the second-gen vehicle has been put on hold for now.
Would sell like crazy if they were gas powered. But then again, short quick trips are all Ev's are good for.
While _this_ model may be made more for short quick trips (~100 mile range, no rapid charging,) there are plenty of EVs that are great for road trips.
As of the notice a decade ago about global warming, no long drives or commutes are acceptable unless your profession requires it. You take public transportation for that or change your lifestyle. I try to be responsible which means I bought my last gallon of gas 8 years ago. Flying and beef consumption are out too.
@@popeyegordon You're not the typical person though. Which would you rather happen? Make gas models and take cars/trucks off of the road OR stay with electric and go out of business or remain small. It would help a lot more to make gas models that burn far less gas than cars/trucks. 90% of Americans are never going to switch to electric and Ev's are on a dead end road.
@@davewhite113 What an absurd claim! All drivers in the US drove gas powered cars until very recently. Trucks are being looked at but there are far more cars to make clean first. How can you not know that it is already fully decided to go electric by all the big brands, it will be mandatory in California in 2035. Small motorcycles and lawnmowers are the most polluting, they have no emissions control and even with that the carbon emissions are diasastrous to continue with now that we know better. When I say 'we' I refer to the responsible educated adults of the world, you don't count.
@@popeyegordon I'm in the automotive business and have been for over 38 years. The demand for Ev's here in the USA has PEAKED. You've been listening to UNEDUCATED stock people that have told you that Ev's are the future. So many are scratching their heads wondering WHY Ford, GM and toyota have been soooo slow to make more Ev's. The reason is they know that they won't sell well. The US government is pressuring them to build Ev's that nobody wants. Look at the facts here. In china , until recently Ev's failed and you couldn't give them away, Then the government there started making parking permits for ICE vehicles very expensive FORCING people to buy EV's. Some governments in Europe are doing similar things to force people to buy them.
Here in the USA these states like California will be forced by our courts to drop these ICE bans. you must live in a place like California where you think that bubble is like the rest of the country. In 5 years, Tesla and these Ev companies will all be out of business or owned as a SMALL Ev division of Ford or GM. Gm and Ford have invested in them only to take the small business from Tesla, once Tesla is out or part of their business, they won't make many more Ev's. Basically the big automakers are waiting for Biden to get out of office in Jan 2025 so that they can drop Ev's and build ICE that customers want.
My beef with this company is that they spend more focus on their stock price rather than ramping production. This is a zombie company today unfortunately. The original CEO did a lot to talk up the company with no real care about actually selling vehicles. He made more money in selling stock then the company is even worth today.
I love seeing folks Outside with masks on?????? Love the vehicle, I understand, the west coast folks are a bit
Too expensive for the masses. Just like the Monotracer, that too is expensive and not for the masses. People buy cars for a reason; cargo space, kids to school, heater and a/c etc.
Affordable? UNDER $20K?... $19,999. Oldest marketing LIE in business.
I would be a bigger fan if the vehicle wasn't so ugly. The roof height is far to tall, the windshield too vertical, the front end to busy and in side view there is no continuity at all. This thing is a styling mess. The dashboard looks like an unfinished science project.
No one buys ugly vehicles. No one.
It’s greatly overpriced
Under 20 K !! The chinese will make it under 5 K...
Spend 20k for fun, nuts.
