Just went through MEPS myself. Processed and swore in! Best advice I can give is when you get to the Dr. part of the interview and the duck walk (naked Olympics) make sure you’re very straight forward with Yes Ma’am or Yes Sir. Be very kind to them! Mine didn’t even look at me as she was walking by and pointed my directions to come with her with a cold face. I ran up to her and asked her about her day in the nicest way possible, she seemed very surprised and smiled with a positive outcome. Being nice to them can go a long way. For the questions part about medical history be honest, but not to honest. There is a way of doing this I believe. Out of my recruiting group I was the only one who swore in. Best of Luck!
But did you have any medical history?
@@SheIsHere00I did, I had to get a waiver for a Right Femur fracture that I had 7 years ago! Before I even went to Meps.. my recruiter told me it would take 1-3 months to come back, it came back in 6 days. I have a rod and 3 screws in my right leg. No issues what so ever. Other recruiters from my office didn’t think I was going to get in. All depends on who you get for a Dr. and actually stand out, treat them like human beings. All of what I said above helped me ^^^ I ship out at the end of the month. Best of luck to you!
@@SheIsHere00 I do, I had to get a medical waiver before Meps for my Right Femur I broke it 7 years ago, they told me it would take between 1-3months to get the waiver but it came back in 6 days. I have a rod and 3 screws in my right leg, which doesn’t bother me. So after the waiver it came time to go to Meps. The other recruiters in the office thought that I wasn’t going to get in. That’s what I mean by being nice to the Dr, and actually treating them like human beings. They’re used to doing the same thing every day like clock work. Standing out by going out of your way to show them respect, Could possibly help you a long the way. I’m shipping out at the end of the month. Best of luck!
Genesis is killing recruiting and hopefully fingers crossed it goes away it’s giving me and many other recruiters a ton of headaches. I know this the republicans in congress are questioning Genesis and it’s damage it’s doing to recruiting and the democrats aren’t. General Martin got grilled by a Republican congressman because of the problem mhs genesis is causing to recruiting. I feel like if congress was to flip Genesis at meps may not exist specially the fact they are pro military Genesis was mostly created to downsize the military that’s my belief.
@@Laudat2001 that was unethical asf lmao
definitely killing recruiting numbers , im trying to join but i have ADHD , and i had a cosmetic surgery “BBL”
@@cheekstheegreat4267 I was diagnosed with adhd when I was 8 years old will they find out 24 years later

Accurate
Not a recruiter, but former air force, current space force here! I hate what the new receuits are going through when it comes to genesis+meps. I don't like the extra stress and bureaucracy this is creating. It adds so many unnecessary steps to the enlistment process, disqualifies good people, and straight up makes people not want to join because they're worried about being disqualified because they had a sore throat when they were 7. I hope things change for the better, but only time will tell if that'll happen!
You are a lifesaver. What a coincidence you post this video and I have been binge watching your videos since 3am today 31OCT22. THANK YOU SO MUCH!🙏🏽🙏🏽 Do you have an email where I can send you some personal questions? I am prior-Service Army, ETS'ED and would like to reenlist, I'll be 34 in January. I have an ReCode 3, due to fracturing my ankle during a house fire when I was in the Reserves. What is the likelihood I would be able to reenlist? I ets'ed in 2012.
Thanks for the feedback 🫡
If MHS Genesis is here to stay, just expect to lose the next war. ✌️
What about PCOS? I don’t take any meds whatsoever and it doesn’t affect me at all. I recently got diagnosed for it but no further treatment was necessary. PCOS is just a Hormonal imbalance that can lead to irregular periods, making it hard to conceive. My periods are regular now and aside from that, I’m healthy. Should I be worried??
How hard is meps on teeth? I have one missing and a crack? No pain. I’m just little anxious on if I will have to get a wavier or be in DEPs over it? My recruiter never said anything about teeth. Also I’m trying to join navy as a HM-ATF. Thanks!
Prior service here i obviously enlisted before Genesis began to being used but when i tried to reenlist i was disqualified from chronic headaches from a concussion that i caught a year prior enlisting and I'm technically screwed I'm not able to reenlist so unfortunately i gave up my dream of continuing my service so my honest opinion about genesis is it's just a big headache and even though its going to be around for a while i hope that it does get changed but by that time I'm going to be too old to reenlist so I wish everyone luck and honestly just do what you can to become qualified or get a waiver if needed but don't be like me and that is getting your hopes up so just keep your heads up either way even if you don't get to enlsit just remember you got my respect for trying to do something with your lives cheers ladies and gents good luck.
I was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder when I was a kid but I got over it when I was a preteen. Never prescribed anything besides antibodies and pain killers for my wisdom teeth. Seeing a consoler currently just to relieve stress from college. Again never prescribed anything from her or never had a diagnosis from her. Just wondering if any of these would be disqualify me.
Depending if any has been documented and uploaded to show in your electronic records. Going on just the information you provided I wouldn't see a reason you a service would deny you. There may be a chance if any of it pops up on a Genesis pull that you would be requested to provided documentation for a better understanding
I have asthma diagnosed since I was born, im 16 now on the track team with no signs or problems with asthma. Only problem is my doctor is prescribing an inhaler as a precaution. I've never needed to use it even though its being prescribed past the age of 13. How do I go about this?
High chance that will show up on your records when Genesis pulls; you're diagnosed so disclosing that would be required. Luckily, you haven't had problems with your asthma and there is a chance the service waives it. They may also ask for a consult for pre/post bronchodilator test to see.
Will letters of recommendations from teachers and from my former fire chief will that be a good way to show meps that I'm am good for the military
These types of recommendations will be reviewed if submitted but they honestly don't hold much value. The testing portion and face to face medical physical/interview is what determines qualified or unqualified.
Hey man, I collapsed from dehydration at MEPS and immediately got my process stopped, after that I got a bunch of doctors notes and sent everything in and currently I'm waiting on a medical waiver. I'm supposed to hear something sometime early February, and I'm wondering what my odds are of getting approved? I have a high ASVAB score (61), and it was just a one off time occurrence / fluke. Got doctors note reaffirming this in detail etc. Do you think I'll get it?
My other question has to do with my ADHD. My process was stopped before they could pick up anything, but I was diagnosed with either ADHD/ADD at a young age, meds never worked for me and I've been off meds for about 8 months. Even though my doctor fully supports me in whatever endeavor I can do, will genesis be able to pick this up? I had a marine friend who got in and they never picked his up, same with people with autism, and I heard its a hit or a miss. What do you think? Will this also get pulled?
Your collapsing at MEPS actually happens very ofter during blood draws so it's not something new for them to process. Immediate pause on your process is regulation and after you're cleared from your doctor and provide those documents that all is good; you should be scheduled to reprocess again. Genesis is a 50/50 on what it is able to pull and how much information it is able to find at the time it is initiated so there is always a possibility that it will find that condition if the provider that diagnosed you with it actually added it as a code in your electronic record.
can you be DQ for being diagnosed with anxiety and depression because of a traumatic life event, but not taking any of the meds that were prescribed? got over the issue myself in about a month or so with a bit of talk therapy
Yes, typically it will be a temporary disqualified and a consult with a MEPS approved mental health provider will be scheduled to see if you currently are fit to serve; safe for you and safe for the branch you are processing for.
I did my MEPS in Feb of this year 2022 for the navy but didn't like any offers given to me if I were to do another branch will I have to go through MEPS all over again .
Negative. Your medical physical is valid for two years.
@@owensmatt crazy you say that, I've been working with marines recruiter and he wants me to redo my MEPS he said that my first screening was only good for the navy .
@@demianv751 That's incorrect. MEPS medical physical is good for two years as long as the applicant doesn't ship out on that physical it can be utilized for all services. Depending on the service you may need to go back as an "inspect" for additional test but to redo an entire physical isn't necessary.
What if I can't remember all my past alot of my stuff is very old what do I do
Just answer briefly the information you to remember, keep it simple.
Quick question, my prescreen got accepted and I disclosed a knee injury I had. Does that mean I was put through genesis and now I’m good to go? Or are they gonna pull that up on me the day I go in
Yes. It means it was processed through Genesis and you are good to physical.
I was sent to the ER while i was still a minor three years ago for being intoxicated on alcohol. I had a couple scratch’s on my arm from working in the yard with my dad. in the ER they wrote it down saying it was self harm, they didn’t believe me when i said it wasn’t. but there are no scars. will that visit affect me in my process of getting in to the airforce. while in that ER visit they made me take a drug test and it was completely negative so i was not on an illegal substance. just young and dumb. or will they ignore it, im scared to start the process and just get rejected over it and i don’t want them to pull it up
Depends what and how much documentation is pulled up from Genesis. Unfortunately, good and bad things that we do when we were younger will pop back up later in life. If there was a "self harm" condition back then, a BH consult would possibly be requested in favor for you do do an appointment and the BH provider to give their assessment on if you are fit for service mentally.
I'm being told I need a bunch of consults from meps just so they consider waivers. The thing is I have to go get them myself, I thought meps does consults?
Some consults will be at applicant's expense, case by case. I would verify with your recruiter on pushing for the service waiver authority to request the consults as needed for review and consideration.
@@owensmatt So, I ask them for some consults? Because I got one yesterday another tomorrow. The last three are gonna be hard to get.
@@apple3927 Typically, the service waiver authority will request consults for what they want more information of. After the consults have been completed the facility will send those results to your MEPS for review and then it gets sent to the service waiver authority for review.
What if we have removed the sharing of medical records?
I've heard more of this happening but unless every single electronic record system is denied at sharing, Genesis can still have the potential of showing certain medical history
Hello! What happens with genesis if I have no health insurance? Will they have access to my medical records still??
Genesis doesn't pull from health insurances but think of it more that it pulls from a electronic record that thousands of medical offices work through.
Are you seeing waivers for Anxiety?
Just about every day. I see them getting consults, waived, and sometimes denied. It depends on a deeper look into what causes the diagnose's, treatment, and current status.
I had a concussion recently and a knee injury genesis didn’t find🤣🤣
yup, that happens. Good luck with your future choices within the service.
got an Adderall prescription just so I could get my college assignments done faster stopped taking it a few months back(do not actually have add), looking to join now... would my pharmacy records be pulled at meps? and is there a way i could get around that?
ask your doctor to make your records private youll be fine
@@Laudat2001 you can’t make your records private. What are you talking about? When you get to MEPs you’re literally signing to release your medical records to them.
@@theotherside1159 yes but where they get the medical records from, is basically a doctor database kind of thing, so you just ask the doctor to make your records private & they take them out of there. Ive never been on any prescriptions or nothing, so i only had to go to one doctor and do it cuz i fractured my wrist when i was 11. Not illegal, it just prevents them from seeing your record. I passed meps, i dont think a fractured wrist wouldve ran me a waiver anyway, just to be safe though.
So did you go? Did they see it
@Benjamin Stamper I have the same issue as you Ben. How did your MEPS process go?
Would I be turned away for being prescribed a low dose anxiety med that I stopped using after a week cause I didn’t need it. Last year I had a full physical done with ekg and I did good on it all, I also had a hernia surgery in august but it’s healed and I’m back to lifting at the gym. Really wanting to enlist but worried the anxiety meds would disqualify me. reason for the meds is I was extremely dehydrated and thought I was having a anxiety attack.
Just going off of what you've discussed, I would side on you having no major issues enlisting. The providers would look into your documentations on your visits being prescribed meds but if the story checks out that military service wouldn't hinder you or the service, you'll be good to go. Good luck
@@owensmatt thanks bro I’ve been stressing out about it, even the recruiter is telling me to relax, if it’s like a sports physical I’ll pass with flying colors. Blood is fine, doctors at my hernia surgery said I had a very strong cardiovascular system, so yeah I’m probably over thinking things
@@antonionewton2404 did they accept you?
@@375dz2 recruiter says it shouldn’t be a big deal, I got a physical with my doctor feb 3rd, she is excited for me and more then likely gonna clear me for servix. Now I’m currently getting my ged. Even now talking to a space force recruiter cause im based out of Colorado and wouldn’t mind staying kinda close to family, my parents are getting older and I still want to serve just not super far from my mom. Italian family mindset is real
@@antonionewton2404 that’s awesome man and yeah I’m from Denver, i’m trying to join the Marines but have been previously prescribed anxiety medication a year ago one time but never took it. If they find out you previously been prescribed medication what is the process like? Do they have you go to see a doctor to get evaluated.
They still doing final inspection for shippers ?
Day of shipping, temperatures are documented, one final visual inspection with the providers, and they will ask if there has been any update since your physical.
Do they check genesis at BCT? I went through meps before genesis was a thing and my recruiter told me because of that id be grandfathered through the old system and they would not check it during BCT.
Genesis is only ran through pre screens processed after Marched 10, 2022.
@@owensmatt Thank you so much. I’ve seen a lot of different answers on many videos and forums, so this really clears it up. Keep up the great videos man.
@@owensmatt Also, what about if go to sick call or any military hospital? I understand that Genesis is a medical program throughout the DoD, not just a MEPS program, but from my understanding they don’t necessarily need to go through my records to use it to update my records, but they would be able to see my history if they wanted to.
@@Carsonist2131 you find an answer?
@@Carsonist2131 I would also like to know this! @owensmatt
Will they use genesis on me if I go back to meps as prior service or will the just look at my most recent PHA and let me skip medical?
Typically your last PHA should allow you to bypass MEPS to go back in to serve it's been with in the last year. If you process through MEPS medically; your information will be ran through Genesis.
@@owensmatt would this apply if I’m switching branches also?
do they ask questions about mental health that you can get DQ’d for?
They will briefly ask some information on the lines of mental health and depending on your response it can METR status for additional documents or DQ status for a waiver request.
I was misdiagnosed with asthma at 8 years old and I’m now 20 will genesis see this
Yes but unlikely they’ll say anything
It will most likely show up when Genesis pulls your outside documents. They typically will just noted it down and ask you to provide more documents if the information they see isn't enough to determine. Misdiagnosed conditions will need supporting documents proving it was misdiagnosed.
Hi sir, so I had an er visit out of state that I completely forgot about. Genesis was able to pull it when I went to meps yesterday and they are now requesting those records along with records up to the present and a pharmacy log. How do you recommend I get these records since they are out of state ?? Also, after I provide them with this informationn, and go back to meps, will I be ran through genesis again ? I completed everything for my physical besides the duck walk and the actual physical. After the questions, I was told they were going to leave it “open” and then my recruiter came to get me. Please advise I’m really nervous. Thank you In advance !
Typically the provider will complete everything they need to while you are face to face instead of rescheduling you back. Once you submit the documents they requested they can determine if you are fully qualified or if you are going to need the service to submit a waiver. The recommendation to get those records is to call the doctors office that processed those records. Genesis should also give the information of where, the doctors name and the month/year you were seen.
Does anyone also have an RE-3 discharge from the military and currently trying to joining the Marine Corps?
Yes. Typically you process RE-1 with no issues. The service liaisons will have to push for a waiver for the RE-3 code; providing what the reason for the code is. Some are waiverable for rejoining.
Does genesis only look back 7 years or all you life
It goes as far back as your documents show that were uploaded to be viewed electronically.
Hello, I went through meps. October 2019 and shipped out to basic training. I came back for a secondary waiver on a cosmetic issue during white phase. If I’m rejoining with a Re code 3. Will I be ran through genesis if I have to retake a physical before shipping back out?
Yes. When you shipped out, that old physical is no longer valid and requires you to have an entire new prescreen and physical; your process would be through the Genesis system
What was the cosmetic issue?
Will genesis check both times you visit meps for your physical and for shipping ? Or they’ll just check 1 time ?
I have the same question
Only during the medical physical portion, not on the day you ship out.
I got disqualified for going to counseling for my parents divorce as a child due to genesis. Worked out though because now I’m state police making triple what I would in the military.
That's great to hear. Military isn't always the path for everyone.
Are you serious
there's no way you were disqualified just for going to counseling.....
Does sleep apnea show up on genesis and if so are you automatically disqualified ?
If it has been diagnosed there is a possibly of it showing up on Genesis and/or just the visit clinical notes of being seen for it.
is corpsman and coastguard corpsman school the same?
Negative. Corpsman school is in Texas with the Army and Air Force. Coast Guard I believe train their medics in California
If any of y’all aint never been to MEPS PLEASE, for the love of God, STOP GIVING OUT FALSE INFORMATION!
I broke my leg in 2003 and it Heald just with a cast no screws or no bars and I'm fine I been a firefighter for 4 years now can I join
If only issue is a broken leg, be sure to answer yes on the prescreen and briefly explain it. There's plenty of people that have had skeletal breaks and have had no problem joining. A broken bone years ago should be noted but not a reason you don't have a chance to join.
Be prepared to get preop, postop and pt records but that’s pretty much it
How far back does MHS search
It has a custom date range that can pull as far back as there is information. Depending on when documentation on a specific applicant was uploaded it can pull as far back as possible.
My question is do they have access to the medical marijuana Card Registry?
From my personal experience at reviewing and pulling outside records for the provides to review; I saw no registries. There is however a chance for it to be notated on a document from a personal doctor visit
Can u be disqualified for taking antidepressant?
Yes.
do you see lap results in genisis
if you mean Lab*, there are some documents that Genesis provides with lab results.
Have meps seen worse medical history and the recruits still get threw
Correct. ALOT more medical history is being found and now it's more than ever on the services to decide on what they are lenient on.
@@owensmatt I wonder what's the worst medical history meps seen
Unfortunately, they will likely keep this atrocity
Can I lie about my non life threatening peanut allergy or will it show on genesis
You should definitely bring up any allergies as military environment is worldwide and you could still take the chance of it becoming life threatening. Secondly, sensitivity and allergies tend to get waived, they'll want you to provide the last exposure, reaction, and treatment.
They check genesis at reception?
The day you come through MEPS your Genesis has already been pulled/reviewed.
What about a dude on TRT? I can get off of it. Took some juice from the men's clinic
TRT should be "prescribed" so you are holding a normal range instead of the inconsistent fluctuations. That being said, it would and should be disclosed because that is an active ongoing treatment.
can i have your email, Im trying to go from Guard to Active & have a few questions.
My email is available here on this profile but it would be best to pop into a recruiters office for the service you are interested in going active with. I personally don't have much information on this topic.
