Robert Campeau, financier and real estate developer, died in 2017. From the brief reading I did, I can tell he was quite a character. His mansion sits on two lots. Great explore, Ethan, and I appreciated the inclusion of the drone footage. Thanks!

    Aerotone
Designed and manufactured in Scotland, the Aerotone bath was a forerunner of the modern jacuzzi that used compressed air rather than water jets to massage the body. The last one was made in the 1950's and few examples survive today.
That thing needs to be preserved! I so hope it isn’t just demolished!

    • @AmandaPanda83
      @AmandaPanda83 2 года назад +4

@@shadowdancer1358 absolutely! It’s heartbreaking and makes me sick to the stomach. I really wish and hope it doesn’t end up demolished. It seems so well made unlike a lot of these million dollar homes. We should build things to last time but also trends. I feel like this is probably being torn down because it isn’t in fashion anymore. That’s the only thing I can come up with. Some developer decided he can make more money tearing it down n building x, y, z there instead of putting some money into it for restoration and updates. I don’t feel it was designed in such a way that it isn’t something no one would want. All the comments are of people that I find it absolutely beautiful. Of course. We are just peasants with no money or taste I guess.
But that bath in particular is extremely rare! If that house was built in the 80s, that bath wasn’t even new when the house was built and I can imagine that it was a pretty penny to purchase and also design into the house. But since it was installed post manufacturing, I have hope that at the very least that the bath can be taken out. I think it belongs in a museum!

    Hi Ethan,
WOW!!! This isn’t a house it is a PALACE!! This is what $40,000.000 can buy. I mean
if you have an elevator in your home that is truly living large. That pool was just
a beauty. I was in awe of this place in every room you showed us. There was one
disappointment down in the basement I couldn’t see the room you said could be a
ballroom with the glittery walls. If I knew where you lived Ethan I would send you a
bright flashlight. Anyway this house if just magnificent in every sense of the word.
I don’t know how they can demo a palace like this. It’s just outrageous. This house
looked clean and I didn’t see any mold or falling ceilings. Just a waste. I am wondering
if you are receiving my comments because I watch all of your videos and don’t always
get a like or a dislike. I take the time to comment and don’t know if you see it. I always
love to see your videos, they are always interesting and enjoyable. As always this was
a 5 star video. Until next time stay safe and well.

If you watch the movie "It Takes Two," with the Olsen twins it shows the interior of the home and which rooms were which. The room at timestamp 5:54 is the dining room. You can also see on the internet the owners of the home in 2002, and all the antiques inside from Europe and the owner talks about the fireplaces and what they've done to the home. He shows photos of it. IT was amazing during the films and it was really beautiful in 2002. It seems like such a waste of money and beautiful features inside that are invaluable. The marble fireplace in the entry way is Italian marble.

Oh man, that place just went on and on! FYI, those "gold" bathroom fixtures, if you look, you can see some green growth, where there was some leakage or drips, that shows it was maybe plated with gold, or most likely, highly polished brass. Copper always turns green when it's exposed to water, and it's also been the favorite pipe for water fixtures in homes since forever. Great video, as usual, thanks so much!

I live in Nashville. I recently hear about a renovation on the largest mansion in Tn at 41,000* sq ft to go “green” the old electric bill was $9000-$12000 a month! Here’s a list of the upgrades
$600,000 for high efficiencyTETCO HVAC systems to replace the 24 previous units(a blueprint map had to be made to show the location for each vent from each unit)
$100,000 3m UV window film and window replacement
$115,000 in LED light bulb replacement(+$45,000 install fee) to replace the 7,600 bulbs throughout the house!!!!!!
$450,000 LUtron Smart home install (controls everything lights window shades HVAC everything you can imagine)
All told $3.1 million dollars in upgrades to bring the utility bill down to $3,000-$4000/ month again from $9,000-$12,000 previously!

Aerotone Bath - An Aerotone is a Victorian hydrotherapy treatment method, which was essentially a prototype of the modern-day Jacuzzi bath. There are very few working examples left today, which makes a visit to the one at Portobello Swim Centre a truly unique experience.
It’s basically a large stainless steel cylinder, half of which is sunken into the floor - it feels a bit like climbing into a giant beer keg or washing machine. You can book it for an hour session, an attendant will fill it for you, make sure that it is at your preferred depth and temperature and explain how things work.
It’s good to go with a friend so that you can take turns playing with the controls and adjusting the strength of the bubbles. You really do get a good pummelling, and it’s a bit like having a whole body massage.

Loved the house, but my 2 favorite things- the hallway that looked like a street in Italy and the round stained glass window in the master bath.

I would hope some of that marble and the gold plated fixtures could be saved. Thanks again Ethan for telling a story with your camera and wonder.

Oh wow! I just googled the house & history of it! All the pics of it with furniture! Then ones of it partially knocked down. 😥. Glad to read too that the taps & toilet roll holders weren't solid gold!I was thinking if they'd salvaged mirrors & lighting they would have taken that amount of gold. Does anyone else get freaked out with unlit basements & boiler rooms or is it just me? 😁

If you have the money to buy this place, you'd want your mansion to be designed around your specific needs and taste.
You don't adapt to someone else's

Wow! I hope they will have someone come in to remove all of the good parts that can be reused in another home. It would be a shame to let all of that go to a landfill.
