These Fake Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons Surprised Me

- Controllers for the Nintendo Switch can get expensive especially when it comes to Joy-Con controllers. I decided to order some fake Joy-Cons from China to see if they were any good and how close they were to first party controllers from Nintendo.
The listing for the Joy Con controllers have since been removed after selling out, I ordered these at the beginning of the year. The brand for the controllers is MYGT on AliExpress.

The official joy cons are overpriced for how shitty the quality is and drift issues. They shouldnt be pricing the official ones for more then $50.
When i got a switch i was so surprised to find ps4 controllers cheaper when joycons have such shit quality for $80
I mean they have a good amount of tech in each joycon, I'd definitely still say that doesn't justify the failings of the joycons though
Exactly, that's why I only buy 3rd party ones, which is kinda sad because you really can't compare the official joycons to official PS4 and Xbox One controllers, which have far better quality for the price and they are cheaper too.
They cost so much because they have more technology in them then other controllers. I’m not tryna excuse drift tho
Yeah, but still, who uses joy-cons for anything else than portable gaming anyways.
Joy-Cons: *not drifting*
Me: *F A K E*
Fax
Fax but did u know real joycons 80% get drift
lmao🤣
Straight outta the box?!
Pretty interesting seeing these knock offs getting closer and closer to the real thing.
it will be funny if they dont have the joycon drift
dusty reaper it will be the best
@@dusty_reaper96 if its using the same stick part as a real joy con, then it would have drift eventually.
@@charbound it is
We're going into the fourth year of the switch I'm shocked we don't have spot-on knockoffs yet.
at this rate by the time the switch is finally disconnected they'll finally perfect it Lol.
If you died and thought you went to heaven, but still experience joycon drift, then you're actually in hell.
Mike UK shots fired
@Mike UK I don't believe in it either, but we're all free to believe in what we choose, don't be an atheist douche.
@Mike UK Dude let people believe in whatever they want. We don't know if God is real, if there's a afterlife, etc. If you don't believe in it then that's fine but don't be a dick about it.
Mike UK wow man you really got us there damn you’re so cool
satan is truly evil for that
When the real ones definitely wouldn’t be up for the Nintendo seal of quality it must not exactly be hard to make some
@Dan Smith nah they always had flaws. I mean look at the cracking ds lite
@Dan Smith and @Sharqo. Just curious, were the cracking issues due to normal wear and tear or something else? I've owned 2 ds lites, dsi, 3ds, and 3ds xl without any issues. I've even been kind of rough with a couple of them too, lol.
@Dan Smith The Switch stuff may not be as quality as their old consoles, but they're still a hell of a lot better than the competition. Ive had my Switch since launch, and havent had a single issue (ive even dropped it).
I bought a ps4 in late 2018 and have had CONSTANT problems with the system and controller.
@@basketpourrie That sucks. I think that happened to a friend of mine who had one of the pokeman special editions. I guess I just got lucky, cause my dumbass got pissed off years ago and threw it, but was totally fine, lol.
One time I closed my ds and it cracked.. The funny thing was I did it carefully too since the first time my DS cracked it was because I was being rough. My 3ds never cracked, but it has an issue where when dust gets in the should buttons they don't function properly..
Not surprised that they exist. They've been selling nearly every part of the Joycon for those of us repairing these things. A good thing since Nintendo doesn't sell replacement parts to the general public.
And Nintendo use their own screws on the joycon to prevent us to fix it.
@@TheHitman644 are you talking about triwing screws? It's easy to buy a triwing screwdriver online
@@CrashFan03 they strip so easily its annoying
0:54 is he expecting us to leave?
Yes I left then came back
Bruh
I mean, if they don't drift, I'm cool.
It’s the same sticks that the joy con use so they will drift.
AVD I’ve replaced my official joy con sticks with some ones from China and they’ve gone a whole year now without drifting
Im hoping they dont as well.. so far 2 pairs of my Nintendo joycons and the pro controller have all drifted within 2 months.. but the knockoff pro controller I have is still perfectly fine after almost a year.... 😑
So if they dont drift then it's well worth the $35-40..
Much better than the $200+ I've spent on defective Nintendo brand controllers!
Isaac my original Switch joycon went three years without drifting, while a new pair started drifting in a month. It’s just the joycon lottery.
Same
Shame we'll never get to give our friends the Mad Catz Joy Cons when they come over
Pure evil! I never wasted my money on a single MadCatz item.
There’s always the dragon quest slime controller
@@thomashernandez6536 Made decent gamecube controllers
@@MikeVoss Define "decent"? I will give them the comfort advantage over the actual controllers but in terms of actual quality and responsiveness ehh maybe not so much...
Really enjoying the content and keep checking the older tech videos. I have no idea about these stuff but I find the narration fascinating.
If Nintendo priced theirs reasonably (with improved build quality) there would be no need for these. Fully on board getting some to give to the younger players.
Honestly, as long as they are not advertised as official joycons, and as long as they are not advertised as having HD rumble or the IR sensor, these sound like a pretty good deal. It'd be nice to have a set of these to have as more "expendable" joycons, to put less wear on the regular ones.
I may consider getting a pair if they do not drift.
they use the exact same analog stick's
Meh
if anything, gut it for the joystick if you're not intimidated by messing around with the internals.
Can i change the shells
Same sticks but still a lot cheaper
Honestly if a friend passed this to me for a quick round of smash bros or something, I wouldn’t even notice
It's so good
Your channel is great. Love your style. Keep up the great work!
Considering that it's been impossible to find REAL joycon controllers as of late this might be a viable option for some. I'm personally hoping that Nintendo simply does a joy con revision to address the drifting issue which has shown up on both sets of my joycon in the near future.
Why is it so hard to make a working stick these days when decades old ones worked just fine?
because sensitive trackers for them cost money, so the good ones are not in wish-grade controllers because it would bump the price.
Well idk because joy stick design has not changed for 20 years. The ps1 joy stick and every other are so similar
it isn't hard, it's just that the tiny sticks on the OG joycons use slider pads instead of full size potentiometers. moving the stick causes the contact surface of the slider pad to slowly get worn off and cause drifting. the psp has a similar stick and it has the exact same issue.
OwlPlaysSiege OG? The joy cons joy sticks have not changed
It’s because of money. Plain and simple. Back in the day, most companies made controllers to last, because they cared about the customers experience. While they still do now, they also have become greedy money lovers. So they purposefully make them less quality. So you have to spend more money. Scummy? Yes. But this is the world we live in now
I’m curious about the sticks. The bootleg pro controller has a weird dead zone around the edges. Wondering if these have the same
Get the beboncool knock off. 28 bucks and it works better than the pro controller
@@Zhinoi i got the beboncool with the turbo utton and its petty good it feels just as sensitive as the real joy cons but feels limited in the directions it can turn. still kick ass in BotW though.
Drip media!!!!! Love ur vids😁
Yeah me too, but sadly Spawnwave is a casual guy, isn't very proficient in testing Controllers for real(like a player from the FGC), you would need to see someone like NihongoGamer for that. Since he plays fighting games and knows exactly what you need to do complicated stuff like pull of 360º x2 with Zangief and the classic motions like 236236 or 623 etc.
Joeshi?! Haha thanks!!!!
You got to tell us where you get your shirts they are amazing
You know, I almost wanted to ask about Amiibo functionality in the event that was "and more" but as someone who has been inside Joy Cons and knows what I'm looking for, seeing the inside of a right Joy Con with nothing there tells me the answer is no lol
This is awesome! Great alternative! Thanks a lot for the review:D
I actually bought a pair of these because joy-con prices in my country are unreal ($90 or sometimes more!!). So far so good, has every feature I need and I turn off vibration on controllers anyways, so the “SD” rumble doesn’t affect me. Oh, and I got it in white color, since Nintendo doesn’t sell those separately :)
I want to hear about this again after a month of use.
Not sure if I’d ever buy the fake stuff, but I did replace the joy stick on the right joy con due to terrible drift. I actually watched your tutorial on replacing a stick and used the same one you used from amazon, still working perfectly to this day.
mother of God i finally have the same shirt as Spawn Wave....now i gotta find the Sonic, Tails, Knuckles shirt
Hummmmm I might pick these up just to throw some aftermarket shells on them
I probably know the answer to this already but, do they have NFC functionality?
Awesome video as ever. Looking forward to your next GameCube pick up video. Also epic shirt as always.
Yeah I had the same question. But I probably doubt that it does.
@@cezarresand my thoughts also.
No. When he took it apart there wasn’t an NFC reader, but if you’re using these as a player 2 controller or just don’t own any Amiibo at all it’s really not a big deal.
Probably why there so cheap
I have other questions - does it fit into the Joy-con grip? And does it have a gyroscope?
Good video, but one thing you didn't test and that I think is also missing is the NFC sensor. WIthout that the price drops significantly as well.
John: How is Bluetooth performance on non-Nintendo devices, i.e. Android? Does it have the same terrible delay the OG joy-con do?
I have the same question. Please test it with android
Where's link for them I want to get them so I have some joy cons for the grip
Super interesting ! I wonder if they have different other colors ! ! !
Question I got a pair of new joy cons for Christmas the packaging looks good it’s just that the home button and the abxy buttons are on the opposite joy con colot can they just come like that or are they fake?
I guess these use the same firmware as the official ones, so it makes sense that they would be so similar internally as well.
Very surprised to see that they wake up the Switch. My 50$ 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ can't do that.
I wish they could change that but I’m assuming there is something specific or that it has to be an official third party like the power a controllers
Cool video tech talk spawn wave
Knockoffs wouldn't need to exist if Nintendo didn't charge an arm and a leg for a replacement pair. Seriously, $70 is way too fucking much.
Are they compatible with the charger grip, attachable straps with the built in L and R buttons, and the nintendo switch ergonomic grip stand? If so, I'm getting these from here on out.
I know it's an old vid, but I wonder if you could put a replacement HD rumble motor in it, and if it would work correctly? It looks like it uses the same plug as the one in the real Joycon, so just a curiosity, particularly since the cavity is still there.
Do they have the sensors to be able to play mario party? As can be only played with joycons
Does anyone know if you'd be able to swap an hd rumble motor into these?
The real question is do they last longer then 4 weeks.
The original Joy Cons are so cheap that fake ones feels almost like the original ones 😅
I'm curious if these can be used for a shell swap? (...would the guts fit into another joy-con housing?) ...and, if you bought a proper replacement vibration motor, could you upgrade it? (...is the connection to the circut-board the same?)
Sean McKinney I would just buy spare joycon shells, those are readily available on eBay and much cheaper and less wasteful. Plus the right joycon doesn't have the sensor on the bottom. And the interval molding is probably very different
i reset my nintendo switch and i only got 3rd party controller(ipega), and after the reset, the screen show to pair the joycon. soo is this one fake joy con can do it?
Did you track your package at all? The reason it may have taken forever to get to you might be that US customs is super backed up right now. I ordered something from the UK that has been waiting on customs for over 20 days now.
I 100% thought the final test would be the hammer test
Hey, there is a cutout for the HD ruble motor and the connection looks the same... Could you please try and put a real HD rumble pack in these? I would love to see how the fake joycon will react.
Hey these would be great for making a d-pad joycon. Do you think you could put it in the custom shell?
Had those for about a year now. Plasticky compering to original.
The click on button will go first very quickly so they will go off easily, and the right trigger got stuck. Overall triggers are so so...
They dont work well with Ring Fit, theres no IR, disconnecting many times.
I would say they good only for secondary.
The do connect and update like normal JoyCons.
Link to the joycons?
Awesome video guys.
wheres the link to buy it?
Im kinda interested to see what will show up if you check the serial numbers
I bought a knockoff switch pro controller last month and opened it up. It actually uses a similar kind of hd rumble motor found in the legit nintendo ones. The only problem is that it's noisy af lmao
Wondering if its 1:1 for the size? Planning to buy some that'll fit with a skull&co case.
can you put a link where you got these pls
What game where you playing close to the end ?? Looks pretty cool
does it have NFC for the amiibos?
You should've checked if they can use Amiibo functionality, so many knock-off Switch controllers lack that. Since those are so close to the real deal, I was curious if they can use Amiibos like the real ones can.
He did , watch the video again
HORI ( Split Pad Pro)
Honestly the only way i use handheld anymore. I've got 4 different grips for Joycon but at the end of the day they still feel like a toy. nothing comes close to the Split Pad. (For handheld play) Highly under rated product.
Anyone know if these are Bluetooth and if they work on pc?
Good to see you have Mario & Rabbids in there, I love this game and its DLC!, I wish Ubisoft made a sequel.
Ok. They look nice. But do they have a better wireless connection?
I have the second version of the Nintendo Joycons and I have literally to play less than a matter away from the console to not have any distinction.
20 or 30 centimeters more apart and both start to have connectivity issues.
Anybody have a link to them? I couldn’t find them when I searched
someone have a link to buy those joy cons?
read the title and immeadiately thought "cake"
I bought some of these because im waiting to get my repaired joycons back because of the drift issue. These are cool.
Do they work with mario party?
So it's basically like that pro controller that is almost identical to the real one, nice!
Thanks for this vid. Was about to order, but not anymore, mostly due to the grip. Also the price difference is like 15 dollars (Aliexpress to original)..hmm have to think about it. But thanks for the vid nonetheless
Neat Video! Very interesting.....maybe next time I buy these knock offs lol
I think I'm going to buy these. They will come in very handy if backup controllers are needed.
6:15 is the maddest I’ve ever seen Spawn wave
Question what brand is it and can it fit in a comfort grip
The dpad travel thing can soooorta be adjusted depending on how much you tighten the pcb to the shell. It tweaks the feel a slight.
BYeah Yeah bYeah n I’m n.
did you manage to connect them on the pc??
Exactly what i was thinking at the end there, good for your smaller kids.
Honestly, these would be really good for shell swaps
Can you please put link on Aliexpress for this joycon because I cant find it? Thanks
Could they be refurbished with different skins/plates since they're customizable?
Probably also missing the NFC for Amiibo.
If they don't drift like a tricked out Corolla then Nintendo should be worried.
Nintendo Sports wanted to upgrade the controller firmware and I couldn't figure out how to get these to upgrade. The normal way just says it can't connect to the controller.
Sorry if this was asked already... but do they wake the system when not connected? I'm sold for just that alone.
Can you review a Nintendo switch third party controller? I am looking for a budget one and I think it has been a while since you have reviewed one.
THANK YOU for this video. I'm gonna order some of these so my friends can all play Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8.
I wouldn’t really trust this that much without some form of money back guarantee, these third party controllers are far more likely to break out of the box.
update?
@@marshmardgames9884 34 dollars if they break you can buy new ones its not that exepensive
These are fantastic!!! I’ve had them for months!!!!!!! Def seem more durable than standard issue.
Could you try them on Yuzu please? (It's a switch emulator).
Wanna be sure before I pull the trigger and order them. (Don't care much about NFC or IR which these are lacking.)
Dude, you forgot about the NFC reader.
a lot of the knock offs use the regular stock photos that Nintendo use
does the right joy-con have the amiibo reader?
Wait so your telling me you can boost the range of the joycons if you use a longer wire?
How is the motion control feature? I’m looking for wii sports replacement joy cons :)
Pretty good
please do a fake vs original ps4 controller next.
Where can get this pls find link
Do they fit in the original satisfye grip?
The only question I ever ask: would it work fine on just dance cause it’s the only multiplayer game I play and idk about dropping $60 to play with others
Oddly, you didn't need to explain the feeling of the plastic on the original Vs the knock-off joycon I could imagine feeling exactly that in my hand just by seeing those two in the video.
i wonder if shell replacements would work with these
Do they fit in joy con clear cases?
I'm intrigued. If I pick them up, I'll let ya know.
Fakes are getting scary these days. I've been buying fake Transformers Masterpieces (look them up). They are a tiny fraction of the cost of the real ones and almost virtually identical straight down to the box and manual. These days, a lot of these companies have access to the actual molds, patents or simply reverse engineer. Quality control is where you are going to have issues but otherwise, bootlegs are pretty stunning these days.
Yea alot of Chinese knockoffs can be pretty damn close to the original. As you said that's due to them actually using materials that are meant for the official products.
Can you dm a few links to the ones you've bought, please?
@@vincentd.allenii3310 eBay is your best bet. It's probably not an ideal time to buy them since they ship from China so it would take forever. Make sure to bid on the ones with feedback. There are a lot of scams. If the price is too good to be true, it is.
