    The reason people like the F310's D-pad is because it's a _Sega-style_ pad, which a lot of people swear by due to functioning in a different way from Nintendo-style d-pads. There's very few controllers these days that use a Sega-style d-pad, outside of actual throwback pads like 8Bitdo's own M30 pad or Retro-Bit's Sega controllers, such as the Saturn Pro (which has hall effect sticks!)

    The reason I keep buying the F310 is the circular d-pad. For fighting games, there really is no alternative to what it has (apart from the super expensive xbox pro controller), Diagonal and quarter inputs are super comfortable on a circle, and it's easier to press considering the d-pad is on the top left (similar to playstation controllers) instead of the bottom left.

  • @Klarden
    @Klarden 19 часов назад +24

    The best thing about the F310/F510/F710 family from Logitech (and they've killed F510 since then, it was basically Rumblepad 2, but better) is the DirectInput/Xinput switch at the back, which is a killer feature for older pre-Xinput PC games and emulators if you don't want to have specialized "like the original" controller for systems you're emulating.
    For whatever reason 8bitdo controllers that have the same switch do not work properly in Dinput mode and consider it the "Android pairing mode". And as such, there's just no other modern alternative to work as both proper DirectInput and proper XInput controller that I know of.

    In defense of the Logitech F310 we dont get it for the asthetics. But the tactility of the "individual" buttons (especially for the dpad) gives the logitech an incredibly precise feel compared to most controllers in the same price range that use membrains under the dpad. This is great for fighting games in "my" experience since directional inputs can make or break a game.

    Linux took me out of that market forever at this point. PlayStation 3 controllers just work on Linux via Bluetooth, and funny enough, they just work in pretty much every game that supports controllers. I am not sure how much of this is Steam's doing, but anything that doesn't support the controller directly just gets an Xbox controller emulated. That does mean that most of them show icons correlating to the Xbox buttons instead of the PlayStation buttons, but I have been using this for such a long time that I have it memorized. You could argue that this is pretty bad, but I just liked my PlayStation 3 controller so much more than the Xbox One controller I tried at some point, that I kept with the PlayStation one.

      They work so well because Sony pushes their controller software/drivers onto the Linux Kernel. Kind of how MicroSoft bundle's their own controller implementation on Windows, you get the same with Sony+Linux. It's genuinely been a good, pro consumer move, from Sony. I've used the DS3, 4, and now 5 on Linux with no issues because of this. Steam helps a little with Xinput emulation, but it works a lot better on Linux, than it does on Windows (without downloading 3rd party software).

I got mine probably around 2011, and it has been really reliable. The only issue i've had with it is because of mines age, the rubber texture on the handles and back of the controller had degraded and went sticky, so I had to spend an hour and some goo gone and scrape it off.

    The Ultimate 2C is amazing and an outrageous deal. The only thing I've found to complain about is that if I press on the d-pad too hard because I'm in INTENSE GAMER mode, it's a little too easy to press diagonals. Linus kinda skipped over the fact that the d-pad uses mechanical switches now and that they added anti-friction rings and metal "stalks" to the thumbsticks this time around. Truly an unbeatable deal IMO.
    Also, regarding circularity, apparently perfect circularity is not actually desirable. I went down a rabbit hole on that because I thought it would be, but due to the way some games determine movement, it's actually better to have a more square pattern like the 8bitdo (and some of the others). Someone else can explain it better, I'm sure.

    My 8-BitDo controller was a selector on the back for BOTH Xinput and Dinput. Though I have the Ultimate 2.4ghz, and I think the one you featured in the video was a different model.
    Either way, it's a fantastic controller. The included dock is great, and it effortlessly swaps from PC to steamdeck (via the aforementioned switch on back) Battery life is incredible, it's literally never died or even gotten close to dying (thanks to the dock)
    My only complaints are that the back paddles functionality only works on PC, and limited only to controller inputs. The settings IMO should be saved to the controller itself, and not be independent of the system it is being used on.

    I bought only one controller from a 3rd party Amazon seller... opened it up to reveal a standard LiPO plugged into the main board, and decided to replace it with a nearly double capacity one... worked better for saints row than the regular switch lite joysticks; has an okay joystick deadzone, but none on the triggers making it useless for nearly every other game... I don't need to shoot a gun when I accidentally brush the side of the trigger with my finger or set it down... when happens more often than you would believe, even if I touch the side of the trigger on accident.

    I have both logitech and xbox one and the logitech one is still amazing to me.
    The thumb stick of the logitech one feels firm and solid, and the firmness help the stick return to center, where the xbox one will have slight arear of spring deadzone and have small deviation. That's pretty important for a car to go straight in racing game, which I mainly play.
    Sadly the thumb stick position is a bit far to hold for long.

    The 8BitDo Ultimate is by far my favorite controller for PC. I used to use Xbox One controllers with a USB C cable and it did the job. But 8BitDo's offering feels like a first party controller for my PC rather than a console controller hooked up to my computer. Plus, it has a wireless charging dock that connects it to my PC once I take it off and disconnects it when I place it, and that's also very nice!

    The Logitech F310 is my go-to 15 - 25 USD controller. It's very frequently on sale at 15 USD for me, a price so low it has no affect on my finances at all, and it's plain ol' reliable in terms of response times and reliability.
    And yes, despite the d-pad feeling as wobbly as it does at first, it actually feels better than most modern d-pads today for the retro and retro style games I like playing, such as randomizers or fangames/rom hacks of classic games.

  • @LaraxusArt
    @LaraxusArt 20 часов назад +5

    In-line analog sticks are make or break for me. I play FFXIV with a controller (the horror, I know), and I need to be able to quickly access the d-pad while holding a trigger and moving with the stick at the same time. That's just not really possible on an Xbox style stick layout, unless you're secretly Kitty Pride and your fingers can phase through each other.
    I also play a lot of shooters, and I just don't understand how people do that with an Xbox style layout. To each their own, of course.

    back then, the Logitech F310 was my go to controller. If i broke one, I would buy another, but that was like back during the ps3/xbox 360 era. The only reason why I stopped buying it is because of the bumpers and triggers. The plastic part that usually holds these buttons would always break and made them feels mushy when pressed. Now, I hardly switch to any other controllers after having used both the latest gen controllers.

    • @Un1234l

For Robotics teams that have little margin between the robot, travel, competition fees, and other costs, getting a reliable, cheap controller that's legal is huge!

When it's empty, you just put fully charged ones and 10s later you're back in game. On the other hand, if you have to recharge it... well, your play session is finished.

Battery lifetime is astonishing(and yeah, aa battery better than integrated acc), d-pad is actually much more convinient than other gamepads, double standart input makes great compatibility. My main issue with it, is that from 2010, a number of wi-fi devices and access points so vastly increased that they start interfere with f710 signal, and i`m often losing control for a couple of seconds. I wish logi makes some new revision, and produce a version with some different frequency or just stronger signal
