  • Having a hard time finding an in depth video covering what it is like being a US Navy Recruit Division Commander? Hi, Ask A RDC here and in this video we go over my time as a RDC. Some things may have changed since I left. But most of it is likely to still be the same. Let us know if you have any questions or video ideas. Hooyah Navy!

I’ve been waiting for this! I know the vast majority of recruits wonder what it’s like for their commander!

It is tough and arduous. But if you work hard then it can be really fun and rewarding

Hey AAR, i'm about to hit 4 years TIS next month and just picked up 2nd last cycle. I've been thinking if I re-enlist i'l look into become an RDC, i've gotten an excellent on my last 2 PRTs and I still fold my shirts bootcamp style lol. I heard you need at least 6 years TIS in order to qualify for RDC, didn't know you also needed a letter from your chain. Also when you say if you come as a 2nd class you'll be treated roughly, should I wait to make 1st before going or is it it not that different? Thank you your time -QM2

Also, one of the main reasons i'm interested in this is because, when I graduated bootcamp (OCT 2020) I was in THU for a couple of months waiting for overseas orders screening to process, and while I was there, I worked as someone who supported the RDCs during night of arrival when the civilians weren't there because of COVID, whether it was sizing the recruits for shoes/boots, giving them their initial ditty issue or guiding them to each next place they needed be. During my time there I remember having a few conversations with the main Chief there, the one who did the whole instructing/yelling at them in 2 rows after getting off the bus part. He was a real motivator for me and I hope I can grow into someone like him as an RDC, and on top of that doing NOA was kind of fun and I hope I could do that if I go there and succeed at C school, as I will have experienced it as the recruit, as the assistant helper, and as the RDC which would be cool.

This sounds miserable. I’d rather get out at 15 years than go here
