Awesome to see this review! I just helped my GF get her first real car, a 2007 TL Type S 5AT with 109k. After a new starter, and a quick headlight restoration the car is coming along great.
I just hit 247k miles this week in my ‘07 Type S, 3 j35 engines in our family over 200k miles, our Honda ridgeline has 360k miles. All have their original motors and transmissions with regular maintenance. Awesome engines through and through
The design still looks good today. Honda knows how to build a good front wheel drive driver's car with a good engine and a good transmission. It's got everything you need and it's built to last. If only they'd put the good stuff into the TSX wagon also.
Hey Zack great video! I am a life long Honda/ Acura owner with a current fleet that includes a 2008 Acura TL Type S. I fell in love with this car back in 2008 and finally bought one in 2015 and haven’t thought twice about it! Great car that is sadly overlooked by todays drivers. I even get regular notes placed on my car in many parking lots asking to buy it! Thanks again for sharing this great car!

This type s definitely aged well, the exterior is such a simple and clean design, and the power is still hold its strength, and its a Honda&Acura product, we all know they gonna last for a loooooong time

Can you imagine the 3rd gen Type S 6MT with an AWD system? I have a 2012 TL SH-AWD 6MT and I got my oldest daughter the 3rd gen...I think hers have a better power to weight ratio and the response seems a tad bit better. I always wondered what the 3rd Type S would feel like in an AWD setup.
@@mrdave777 I have really enjoyed my 4th gen. They are known for burning oil once they get up in the high mileage. I also noticed if you have a 6MT, GM Synchromesh is better to use for transmission fluid over the OEM transmission fluid. I've had an issue with slight grinds and a few pop outs of gears once I've best in it a little bit with high rev quick shifts. I only get on it pretty good every once in awhile though. Overall I really am enjoying it and it is a good car to me. Stay on top of your services and you probably will never have a big issue with it...just my opinion. It does surprise a lot of people who doesn't know about them. They're not blazing fast, but you will get away from some of the cocky driver who have no clue of the AWD 6MT hard lauch. Lol
I adore the 04-08 TL, even if it isn't the type S. But the type S is just the best version. If for some reason the lexus is300 didn't exist with a manual transmission, I would probably own a TL despite it being FWD.
Great review of a car I’ve always loved!! 👍👍 My wife’s boss had one, brand new, back then and asked her if she wanted to drive it. Unfortunately, she couldn’t drive 3 pedals at the time and still kicks herself about that anytime we see one.
This car is so beautiful honestly. For being a car made in 2008 it look as if it was made maybe a couple years ago. I wish they never made the 4th gen look like a fat transformer lol, but the 3RD gen is definitely going to be loved forever. Hate to see most of these trashed and just in terrible condition, but if you have one in minty brand new condition keep it forever! I have an 06 manual that is in the best condition and im gonna keep it forever.
Excellent script and review my dude, subbed. You know the deal, great on you for giving this Gen that praise. A lil correction for beggining of video, the 07's AND 08's base TL AND Type S's were the good much better years not just the 08's alone, just clearing that up. Remember the refresh was 07-08. Other than that excellent review accuracy. 04-05 had a lil more undesirable issues, still reliable vehicles, leather quality def was delicate AF on those seats, this owner has pretty mint seats compared to the norm. Mine are in similar condition as well. The red interior glow is red on the Type S, blue on the base models. It is interesting to see the navigation evolve. Today's navigation when compared to that of a 2001 Honda navigation is unbelievable. Unfortunately, the navigation screens really date the vehicles, more than anything else.
I owned an 05 3G TL (auto) with an A-SPEC kit. One of my biggest regrets carwise was getting rid of that car. Such a timeless styled and capable car. Not fast by any means, even with a CompTech supercharger. But they were solid and would be open to buying one again. Just as a manual... Yes, 4G TL is where Acura lost their magic for sure.
Definitely not getting rid of mine.. I bought it 2 years ago off the original owner. 04 with the 6 speed manual.. would love to have a automatic 07-08 though to. I'd say their pretty quick cars considering it's about 5 seconds for 0-60 on the manual. I'm happy with my 08 Base Automatic TL, I wanted a 6 speed but I never learned how to drive stick and 6 speed on these cars base or Type S it's a pretty penny... Decided to go with auto 5 speed to save some money and hopefully I can maybe manual swap it someday.. 3rd Gen TL was my High School dream car back in 2010 and It still looks better than most modern cars on the road today!
Third Gen Type S is an Acura classic imo. I'm surprised I don't see many on the road these days. Strongly considered this used back in '11...settled for a C350S smh.
This was right when cars were getting packed full of features and settings but before screens controlled everything on the car. Everything had to be a button because the screen wasn't integrated with all the systems.
I had '06 TL, pearl white with tan interior and 6-speed manual. Bought it brand new in january 2007. Loved that car, it's still the best looking Acura sedan for me. Timeless design and lines on that car with beautiful interior and amazing seats. 2009+ TL model was a hideous monster.
Wow... Comparing the J series to the VQ is kinda like driving a Porsche and saying "I guess it's as good as a camry". The J engine is the only V6 I've ever driven that makes me not wish it was an inline six, and I count my own VG30DE. I seriously want to swap an Acura J motor into my 300zx, but sadly this would be prohibitvely expensive because the J motor is designed to be transverse. Maybe someday I'll do a J swap miata??? There's a kit for it but since the stock intake plenum puts the throttle body in the firewall, you need an aftermarket intake plenum, and CA won't let you smog it then. Love the J. Best V6 of all time. Well, best naturally aspirated V6 of all time.
I had a '07 Base for my first car in 2015, and then the Type-S in 2019 after the first got totaled. Put over 350,000 kms collectively across both cars from 2015 to 2022 and they were nothing short of reliable, fun, easy to maintain and practical. Decent fuel economy too, was able to squeeze almost 700 kms on road trips. The Type-S only ever had one problem and that was the acceleration pedal position sensor failing quite literally a week before I let it go at almost 300,00 kms (fixed the sensor of course). The new TLX Type-S didn't do it for me. Too expensive, at least in Canada and didn't feel like a true successor. Instead, I replaced my TL with a Stinger GT back in June. I absolutely love the Stinger, but a small part of my misses the Acura. It went as far north as Alaska, and south and east to San Francisco and Arizona. Great first car for sure that I can easily recommend.
acura should have kept remaking this every year with very minimal upgrades, best overall car they ever made! im trying to get my hands on a 6 speed manual but with inflation right now i will hold off im looking to pay around 7k for a high mileage manual
This is probably my favorite car of all time style wise. I see them pop up on CL from time to time and I'd love to get one, but it's not quite as utilitarian as I need.
Great review on one if not the greatest luxury sedans ever made for cost and reliability period 👍 I know owned my aspec TL manual 8 years what a car sunny days only summer car as she deserves along with my baby b7 rs4 audi love my ladies :-)
I’m going to be buying a 2008 type s 6 speed but I’m wondering how many miles is too many for the year? The one I’m looking at has 180k and the timing belt and other services are complete and I pulled a car fax and there’s nothing significant in the report that would be bad for the car so besides the miles shouldn’t this car go well over 200k miles if taken care of well? Google says 250k-300k before needing a refresh
One thing I HATED about this car when I owned it was it had NO TORQUE. I was confused when he said this motor is fun and torquey... I had the automatic version of this car which may have been my whole problem but mine had less torque than an Odyssey.. why is that
My wife (and I of course) have daily driven an 07 automatic (I have an 05 base 6mt as well) for a handful of years now. Reliable, fun, safe, just overall a great car. I'm going to have to buy another one or two before the market goes bonkers 🤣 I'd like to replace my base 6mt with one of these. I also have a del sol and I'd have a tough choice on saying which one is more fun
I had a coworker that had a auto and it was nice very nice and very quick even just putting the gas down Honda/Acura is the best reliable fun you can’t ask for a better daily driver
I own an 07 6-speed version of this car it is a great car especially if you put Michelin pilot sport all season tires on it this car LOVES the pilot sport all seasons though I personally would not recommend this ad a first car as it's definitely raising in value especially the 6 speed but also fuel economy is pretty terrible I granny drive my car usually and I get anywhere near 14 to at best 20 mpg on the freeway another thing that I will say about the 6 speed cars specifically, is changing the clutch it is a nightmare to change taking it to a mechanic, it'll probably cost about $2,000 to change but outside of those gripes this car is awesome
I'd still like one as a 'fun' weekend car. Does everything I'd want it to do and I wouldn't feel bad using it hard. Eminently placeable on a narrow twistie, and 6.5 seconds 0-60 is 'enough' - face it, you're never using the 5 seconds that 2022 v6 Camry allows - you live 85% of your time on suburban streets where 60 mph is alreay 20 over.

One of my favorite cars of all time, and I happen to have a bead on a really nice Type-S 6-speed right now!!
Japanese cars from the mid 2000s to mid 2010s really had a lot of buttons on the dash, seemed like a trend at the time.
This was right when cars were getting packed full of features and settings but before screens controlled everything on the car. Everything had to be a button because the screen wasn't integrated with all the systems.
Cockpit vibe
Just got an 08 Manual in June after shopping for almost a year..Moroccan Red Pearl
That's truly impressive that he managed to lock that down for under $10k.
I love the Type S, but I’m really greatful for my manual 05. Still has the brembos and the LSD
Yeah having the manual is a big flex
Just traded in my 05 TL 6MT that I owned for 4 years. Has the same front Brembos and LSD that the Type S's do so that's pretty cool!
dream 4door. I love my 2003 3.2CL type S 6speed, but people constantly complain that it’s a coupe lol. would love a manual TL S
Phuck a Kia. Honda is superior.
@@williamlevy1981 Tell me you don't know much about the Stinger without saying you don't know much about the Stinger.
was there a big difference from the normal tl to the type s? or pretty close?
is that car for sale Zack? I always wanted a manual TL
I am so happy I got one before their price increased over the past 2 years
Ive got a black 2005 tl with the 6 speed and factory Brembo front brakes .
I love it .
I might buy one of these, always loved the look
acura should have kept remaking this every year with very minimal upgrades, best overall car they ever made! im trying to get my hands on a 6 speed manual but with inflation right now i will hold off im looking to pay around 7k for a high mileage manual
I want one in Kinetic Blue Pearl ssooo baaad. Ugh... I'm on the lookout for it for about a year already.
If my 8th gen Si can get me in trouble then I’m certain this type s can as well
This is probably my favorite car of all time style wise.
The luxury sedans (Lexus & Acura) kept the cassette player longer then the Toyota Camry & Honda Accord
Old people could buy luxury cars, thus why they kept the tape deck.
im 14 i saved up enough to buy it when im 16 thanks for the review now im definitely buying it
Got get it kid..well worth it
I've was talking to my car enthusiast buddy few days ago how I been searching for this model for years. Very very hard to find.
I had the automatic version of this car which may have been my whole problem but mine had less torque than an Odyssey.. why is that
Torque is limited in certain gears to reduce torque steer I think 1st second and 3rd apparently pedal commander fixes that tho
I own a 08 type s with the aspec kit . Wish it was 6speed tho
Nice car the problem is that most of them are automatic. If you find a manual one it is usually a mess.
There's an 07 tl type s 6mt with 140k, clean title and well maintained, going for $16k near me. Price too high? Would do you think?
My wife (and I of course) have daily driven an 07 automatic (I have an 05 base 6mt as well) for a handful of years now. Reliable, fun, safe, just overall a great car. I'm going to have to buy another one or two before the market goes bonkers 🤣 I'd like to replace my base 6mt with one of these. I also have a del sol and I'd have a tough choice on saying which one is more fun
How’s the lower control arm n ball joints holding up😅
Despite being slower, the Type S is now more desirable than most 335i’s and G35’s/37’s
Back when I loved Acura!
Timeless look too!
I had a coworker that had a auto and it was nice very nice and very quick even just putting the gas down Honda/Acura is the best reliable fun you can’t ask for a better daily driver
I have a midnight blue and im currently fixings some parts on it Also what do you recommend I should do?
My elementary school principal drove one of these in that brownish color.
Damn that Honda V6 sounds good!
The cluster on TL vs TL-S..
TL- blue and TL-S is red, correct?
Correct. I actually like the blue more
Base blue yes, TLS red.
Yes I'm I'm always excited to see a new video
Sounds like a better Nissan 350z, Couldn't have said it better 🔥
Kinda wish I've gotten a 6spd instead of auto now
My car may be old but I love it 😺
What a cool & classy car!
They are well worth it I’ve have an 08 type s for a little over a year now
I could have sworn the manual was in the 5's..but I could be wrong
@@mikejames288 Yes manual TL-S is low 5s, even my base auto hits 60 under 6s
6.5?? Get outta here
Actual #s:
Base- 5.9
Type S -5.5 (6mt)
5.7 (auto)
I bought brand new 2006 TL with 6-speed manual. 0-60 on that car with manual was 5.8 sec.
Call me old school but this is my poor man’s dream car.
I love the mazda3 intro lol
I love that cassette deck...
It’s Kinetic Blue Pearl, no midnight blue in the Type S.
That car sold as Honda Accord in Europe back in the day!
That car was never sold in Europe. Honda Accord in Europe was Acura TSX not TL.
My 4th gens front grill looks nothing like that. Makes a world of difference.
Do an Infiniti m56 review
Yassssssssss I absolutely love mine 🧘🏾♂️💯🙏🏿 a rare gem indeed
Holy shit I love my 06 manual aspec Tl 20 inch vossens mmmmmmm 150000 km summer car only 😳 will last my whole life period
Australia should of had this look
christ i was literally just looking up info about one of these lmao,. perfect timing..
I really wanted to buy one of these for a bit
I have a manual 04 TL it’s a great car
Sweet car , they are great drivers !
Damn, I miss my TL Type-S
Superior manual is elite
Back end looks like a Legacy
How much u want
Dont try to find a TL type S in a particular color. If you find a good one, BUY IT. it's too rare to be picky about color.
