Not true, it’s actually one of the least slept on platforms in the Acura line up. The Acura TL and TLX is the most slept on platform on the Acura lineup for decades lol
Love those TL models especially them A-spec 6 spd. However, I wanted a Japanese made Honda sedan, so I got myself a 2005 Acura TSX, 6 spd with 41k miles. This car is soo balanced & fun to drive, it's almost like a Integra Type R 4 door.
This body style is timeless. If it were released today with modern tech options, people would rave over it. My bro still has his from 2006. I'd pick this over a 3 series from the same era, anyday.
Bought a brand new one in 06 in Pear White. 2 years later it was written off and replaced with another one. Great cars. I now have an 03 TL-S that I have in near showroom condition. I love the look of both the 2nd and 3rd gen.
Oh man, I love and miss this bodystyle of TL...I remember these back in the day and they were just beautiful and still are today. My dream throwback TL would be a 2008 TL Type-S with the manual transmission; although I checked the other day and pristine ones are pricey!
I used to own one and yes you have to definitely switch out the tranny screen and the dashboard was notorious to having multiple cracks on the dash (most dealers wanted to charge around 400 dollars to replace it) but other than that it was an awesome car 👍
I've owned a 2007 TL for 12 yrs. What sets this car apart from the Hondas of those years is the Factory HID lights (much brighter, better), stronger engine for pick up & go, factory toms & aux (07-08 models) plus the supple quiet ride on the road. It is recommended to put premium 91 gas for max output-which I do- and change the timing belt every 100k miles or 5 yrs. Other than that the car is awesome & are now all available for between $3800-$4800. Great review!
This car just hit it on the sweet spot of being a starter car. It has heated seat, leather seat, a back up camera (if you get 2007 2008 model I think) while at the same time being very zippy for anyone to enjoy.
I'm not gonna sell my 2006 TL as of yet. I bought it back in 2021 used with 141,000 miles, now I have 201,800 miles on the dial and it still run and sounds like a new car. I wanted a 2nd Gen Lexus IS 250/350 but it had little space in the back seats, thats the only downfall. Both cars are reliable, but the TL is more refined.
What an absolute epic 👏 sedan love my manual aspec TL it's the best affordable Luxery sedan ever made poss . :-) great review auto is deff not it's strong point :-)
Always pleased to see you reviewing an Acura. They're by far and away my favorite cars. I tried owning several Hondas and they just didn't do it for me the way these Acuras do!
I waited years for this TL.. finally purchased one, and a kid who just got his license like a week before totaled my car lmaoooooooooo. I was like whelp there goes my dream car..
The airbag light is most likely either the driver or passenger buckle sensor getting flaky, in which case a replacement buckle will fix it, or (as it was on my 2007 Accord) the module with the hazards switch and the "Passenger Air Bag Off" light needs to be replaced. If you start the car and that light never comes on, then that's the problem. A pretty simple solution. And you're not wrong about the transmission filters. My 2.4L Accord with the 5-speed auto has a replaceable transmission filter in the engine bay, and the Honda specialty shop I took it to for maintenance didn't know about it and treated me like a doofus for thinking that it had one. Thankfully, the second shop was more open-minded when I told them that, yes, you can actually replace a transmission filter on some Hondas.
A Spec was ultimately the Type S before the Type S, if that makes sense. Options include two tone seats, the manuals came with the brembos and LSD, along with the full aero package. I believe they could come with “A-Spec” engraved in the headrest, similarly found later in the Type S. A specs are INCREDIBLY rare nowadays
A spec was an inch lower, had retuned struts, 18in wheels, aero kit, optional trunk spoiler, optional carbon fiber interior peices, thicker steering wheel with grey inserts and blue stitching. Only differences from the base model
I’m a second owner of a 2004 Acura TL. Looks exactly like this but I have thè beige and black interior and don’t have that rear bumper. I thought this was considered a concept car. I do have the A-spec spoiler kit front bumper and side skirts but with a TL-S rear. I’m swapping out my factory’s for the ATLP quad tips. Can’t wait
Very much like this gen TL and over the years I've thought picking up a 6 speed version would be nice. Hard to find and not cheap. Really good styling, has held up well. Great engine, good handling. A very nice blend and better than say an A4 which as a 6cyl was its price but not performance equal. Far less relaible too. A popular car at the time, when Acura still made (cars) that mattered.
Great video! But come on give the fourth Gen a break I think it's beautiful, it's lines set it apart from every other car of that era. I've owned a 08 type s and I absolutely adored it, now I own 2012 sh AWD and love it! It's so much fun and very comfortable.
That’s cool! I got a 09 TL SH-AWD with the Technology Package and it’s a fun cool commuter. What really attracted me to this vehicle was the sound system (amazing for a stock vehicle around those years) and it being pretty quick off the line. It’s also a plus that the previous owner was a family member who gave me a great deal on it.
I know how felix feels. I hate having to spend over $700 (yes I know it’s high. I have bad credit) not including insurance for a monthly payment. to save up like around $10,000 to buy an older Lexus. I feel like it could give me more financial freedom without having to worry about car payments.
The auto trans in the 04-06 model are prone to fail if not being taken care properly. The 07-08 Auto trans is a borrow design from Acura RL of the same era which proved much more reliable. Your friend Felix actually pick up a rare example as this was an actual Aspec TL when it was purchased new. The full aero kit, wheel, rear deck wing, steering wheel. The MSRP sticker for a 05 TL Aspec are $39700 back in 2005. I only wish it in better condition as probably the car been thru 5-6 owners. I been with these car since they were new. If anyone looking I recommend to find a 04-06 6spd MT, the only problem with them are clutch replacement tend to be on the pricey side.
Automatic transmissions fail because people never use the e-brake when they park. After 17 years of parking on a steep-sloped driveway and almost 400,000 miles on the original tranny of my 06 TL which still shifts great I can say auto is as reliable as manual if one simply uses the e- brake regularly w/ fluid maintenance. This applies to all cars.
Wow it has controls for the heated mirrors. On other cars like the Toyota Corolla SE, their is no separate controls for the heated mirrors. Instead you turn off/on when you turn the defrost on
I have never driven a car w/ separate heated mirror buttons. The cars I've had w/ heated mirrors just turned on when you turned on the rear window defroster. Loved having heated mirrors,as it also dries the mirrors when there's rain or dew on them,so you can see clearly. 😍😍
2007 and 2008 Acura TL has the transmission out of the Acura RL and they don't have problems like the 04 to 06 TL night and day difference I have an 07 TL and they look way different even though the bodys are the same they just look way better the 07 to 08
This generation definitely did - they were less common toward the end of the gen cycle (07-08). I nearly bought one a few months ago with 205K miles for $3K but it was in terrible condition and had some mechanical issues. I’d rather get a first gen TSX as those were bulletproof.
Leather looks disgusting when it’s shiny. Pro tip: buy some Simple Green and wipe your old seats with Simple Green and a wash clothe to clean the filth and tone down that nasty sheen
After the fourth my partner and I plan to submit or car its stock and not the most pretty but I think with the area I live in and the type of car it is he’d enjoy it
Please review a first generation TSX, they're very underrated even within the Acura lineup.
Especially if you can find the manual version
Agreed. A friend of mine had a TSX with a manual and what a great car.
3rd gen TL Type S video is reason I started watching shooting cars daily. This made my day 🤙 thank you!
This body style is timeless. If it were released today with modern tech options, people would rave over it. My bro still has his from 2006. I'd pick this over a 3 series from the same era, anyday.
What about the rwd vs fwd thing? And all the understeer and torque steer? Plus the 60/40 weight distribution?
100% agreed 👍 and keep $$$ all that money in repairs:-) I know own 06 manual TL and b7 audi rs4 both epic but rs4 German holy fack $$$$$ maintenance
Bought a brand new one in 06 in Pear White. 2 years later it was written off and replaced with another one. Great cars. I now have an 03 TL-S that I have in near showroom condition. I love the look of both the 2nd and 3rd gen.
"id rather drive an old honda than know the bank owns my car" - some random ig meme that i wholeheartedly i agree with
Rear Acura badge on trunk is upside-down 😮
Now seems like a Changan Who already copied Acura Logo😂
There was a time when Honda nerds would do this because the upside down A looks like an angry H.
A Satanic Acura😂
Oh man, I love and miss this bodystyle of TL...I remember these back in the day and they were just beautiful and still are today.
My dream throwback TL would be a 2008 TL Type-S with the manual transmission; although I checked the other day and pristine ones are pricey!
Pricey? You mean $30k for low miles?! Crazy!
I used to own one and yes you have to definitely switch out the tranny screen and the dashboard was notorious to having multiple cracks on the dash (most dealers wanted to charge around 400 dollars to replace it) but other than that it was an awesome car 👍

I recently added a bt-45 bluetooth audio kit from usa-spec from the trunk. Easiest 15 min connection ever. No need for aux wire for audio! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I like the headlights, but the high beams are horrendous IMO
The manual in 04-07 also comes with LSD and Brembo brakes. It's hard to find, I've been looking for quite some time.
04 to 06 sir
love mine it's epic only drive summer nice days 😎 aspec manual 20 inch vossens rims my baby :-) . Deff get one u won't be disappointed 😌
This car just hit it on the sweet spot of being a starter car. It has heated seat, leather seat, a back up camera (if you get 2007 2008 model I think) while at the same time being very zippy for anyone to enjoy.
2nd gen Legend and this are my favorite Acura sedans.
I'm not gonna sell my 2006 TL as of yet. I bought it back in 2021 used with 141,000 miles, now I have 201,800 miles on the dial and it still run and sounds like a new car. The RL is great one as well! More spacious, same features, easy to maintain & more power.
Excellent cars! My friend had an ‘05 TL.
I have always liked these. Very popular when they were introduced.
I waited years for this TL.. finally purchased one, and a kid who just got his license like a week before totaled my car lmaoooooooooo. I was like whelp there goes my dream car..

Yep. Only difference was the 3.5

It’s not the fluid filter but the transmission fluid pressure switches. They get clogged over time and can starve the trans of fluid.
Both really
Cool looking Acura! 😍😍
Always loved that body style
I have always liked these cars. I would proudly drive one today. 💙

These were sold as Honda Accord in the UK with 2.2 diesel, 2.0 and 2.4 petrol
It was the Acura TSX that was sold here in The UK,Ireland & mainland Europe as an Accord....a much different rear end,w/ horizontal taillights.
This TL was actually more related to the larger (US designed) Honda Accord. The front end of this just looks similar to that of the TSX.
I know how felix feels. I hate having to spend over $700 (yes I know it’s high. I have bad credit)
not including insurance for a monthly payment. to save up like around $10,000 to buy an older Lexus. I feel like it could give me more financial freedom without having to worry about car payments.
Or the Honda accord as this was sold as in Europe. With a few tweaks.
that’s the TSX, not TL

Uncle had an 04 6 speed!
Love the tl, i just wish they woulda used one of the honda v6s that didnt require premium gas, that woulve been amazing.
Wow it has controls for the heated mirrors. On other cars like the Toyota Corolla SE, their is no separate controls for the heated mirrors. Instead you turn off/on when you turn the defrost on

Yeah, I much prefer the looks of that generation over the newer ones.
Amazing car
Review a first gen tsx with a manual
3gen TL 's are a blast to drive
The steering wheel is thicker in the a spec, the little differences 😊
I had a 2005 TL with the manual 6 speed
Could please reveiw an infiniti 2007-2008 G35?🙏
2007 and 2008 Acura TL has the transmission out of the Acura RL and they don't have problems like the 04 to 06 TL night and day difference I have an 07 TL and they look way different even though the bodys are the same they just look way better the 07 to 08
Cool car Zack
Best spec tl
Did these not have automatic transmission issues?
This generation definitely did - they were less common toward the end of the gen cycle (07-08). I nearly bought one a few months ago with 205K miles for $3K but it was in terrible condition and had some mechanical issues. I’d rather get a first gen TSX as those were bulletproof.
It's a shame they all end up in that condition. If you lived near my location, I'd let you review my TL which is in show room condition
Leather looks disgusting when it’s shiny. Pro tip: buy some Simple Green and wipe your old seats with Simple Green and a wash clothe to clean the filth and tone down that nasty sheen
Pretty sure TL Type S we’re in 2001 to 2003 which is the 2nd Gen TL
After the fourth my partner and I plan to submit or car its stock and not the most pretty but I think with the area I live in and the type of car it is he’d enjoy it
Shoot my 2004 6MT!
Cool car.
10:21… fender damage… fix that!
Awwwhhhh yeah!!!!! 👍👍👍
These are sweet
Is it okay to buy a car this old ?
Yes!
If Honda had made the TL rwd they would have beat bmw at there own game.
The new Civic Si has warranty, this don’t.
The next one to leave a Comment can say "50th!"😂
