Once upon a time, the #AcuraTL was the best-selling luxury sport sedan in the US. About 15 years ago, #Acura outdid themselves with the 3rd generation TL that really shocked. the world and showed Acura just serious they were about going after the best from Germany. When the #TypeS model returned in 2007, its near 300 HP V6, available 6-speed manual, and stunning looks had a lot of enthusiast trading in BMW, Audi, and Mercedes sport sedans. Today, Acura seems a bit lost but there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon as a #TLXTypeS is coming very soon with a turbo V6 and SH-AWD. Until that new car arrives, the old 2008 #TLTypeS still represents the best that Acura has to show for a sport sedan and its exactly why used examples can command a premium, especially if they're in good shape. I had a 2007 TL Type S and it was quite possibly the best car I've ever owned. At 70 years old I've had many cars but my '07 TL was special!
richard blackcloud wow usually 70+ yr olds usually like Floaty cars like Buick. Interesting to know you had a taste for TL.
@@DarthNero I'm considering a Charger SRT next if the new Type S is a disappointment, my body is old but my mind is still 20 years old.
@@romeotango58 thats the way to be
richard blackcloud respect to an OG car enthusiast
richard blackcloud respect to you sir, well i saw a leaked spec sheet of the the new Tl type S , if it is real, 3.0TT 6 speed manual around 410hp shawd with agressive sound tuning i think Acura wont let us down this time.
The guy which designed this car is Jon Ikeda he’s now the head of Acura so the brand is in good hands and with products like the new RDX it’s only upwards for Acura
Awesome! Did not know this! Crossing my fingers
My dad is an asst. zone manager for Acura and believe me big things are happening
And he’s Japanese
Oh no. I want the shield grilles to return.
f181234 was he not the head of Acura after this car?
Since '04-'08 this design, imo, is a timeless look. It's aged well even by today's car standards sedan-wise.
dude i just got rid of my 05 TL... it was literally so fucking ahead of its time. bitch lasted me 7 years and i definitely could of kept it if i put about 2k into her

as someone who owned an automatic 08 base TL for 4 years and now owns a manual 07 type s. Yes. the type S is desirable af. Especially in manual. 100+lbs lighter, LSD and MUCH more aggressive gearing. Alright, I'll watch the video now
sell it to me please
Sell it!
A guy at work has a blue 08 Type S manual with about 105,000 miles. Had an 04 TL for 9 years, loved it. Also had a 01 CL Type S.
Own a 2007 Speed6, would love to find a TL Type S in manual as well... I like sport sedans lol
My father got this used at 10,000 miles and ended up was given to me as a hand-me-down at 80k. This was the vehicle I used for my driving test.
Unfortunately, my neighbor played hooky and decided to steal my car for scrap (who ends up getting away from the charges that were filed), man I'm going to miss those days.
Man if they still sold this new I would have picked it up. They dropped the ball on the follow up generation when they made it bigger and bulkier. The only thing I think they did right was utilizing the sh-awd
@mkvl1490 It was a good car but it was ugly and it did not sell well at all.
Joseph stupid the design it’s beautiful
@@WillVH203 If it's so beautiful, why did no one buy it?
Now the TSX and TLX or whatever is essentially different badge Honda
They shawd had a manual version. To bad no one wanted them new.
Such a timeless design... ... This TL & 2nd gen Lexus IS. We’re My Favorite car designs
Redline, this a double whammy! First the TL history and now this...great content as always! I like the idea of reviewing older but nonetheless relevant cars, keep up the great work!!
Absolutely, TL Type S are still total eye catchers when you see one. Beautiful car, perfectly designed.
This.
Agreed
The interior still looks better than any 2020 Chevy interiors
2000 Accord interior looks better than any car
Talk about interiors... My parents' 2016 Ford Escape... Oh God...
Rodney Milner is it good
@@irshangill7582 Oh no... Black everywhere... Almost all plastic... It's not a bad car, but the interior, the minute I stepped into it, was disappointing from the get go.
Although I should've never had high expectations, it's a base model after all.
Who else thinks this is the best acura sedan ever made
I remember all I ever wanted and cared for was a BMW back then. Then the TL came out and all the sudden I liked another car almost just as much
Just like the old lexus gs
I'd say second gen RL as an overall product.
Edwin Alfredo indeed was a beautiful car a bit large though.
This and the 94/95 Legend GS 6MT
This car holds a very special place in my heart. My dad had it when I was 13 and it was what I believed to be the coolest car as well as the first car I ever drove. I'm 25 now and desire to buy one of these for myself. Thanks for making this video Sofyan, I feel a huge amount of personal nostalgia from this.
I just got a 08 type s w 90,000 miles. I just had to replace brake pads and rotors. I love it.
I owned this 2008 TL-S in the grey metallic, two toned interior. They only came one way, having no additional options on the car. When I bought it, I traded in a Porsche Boxster and originally went to drive the smaller TLX. I told the sales guy, Tom, I really liked the car, but that I was not happy with the performance. I remember Tom saying “ok, let’s go back to the the dealership - I’ve got your car.” When we got back, as I was waiting for him, I saw him pull up in the most beautiful car I had ever seen. I was in love as soon as I sat in the drivers seat. We did go for a drive, but I knew I was buying that car the moment I touched the door handle. To be honest, I don’t even think I asked the price. I wish I still had it.
This is hands down the best generation TL ever
Na. 4th Gen 6mt takes that title
@@supersabrosinho the 4th gen is widely agreed on as being ugly as hell.
@@dieseldouche7735aesthetics are subjective. I think my 2011 TL 6MT looks stunning! It also drives in a whole other league than the 07 type S
@@supersabrosinho I agree with that but there can be exceptions, crossover SUV's are abominations to anyone who is a car enthusiast it would seem. I'm sure a new TL will of course demolish an older TL especially with that awd. And that 4th gen can be found pretty close on price to a 3rd gen type s so you can't beat that. Just wish it had styling more like the older one.
For acura enthusiasts, the 3rd gen TL is hands down the best overall generation. Just check acurazine, and you'll find out yourself. The TL Type S manual 6 speed is also listed in the top 10 fastest fwd cars to date still!
Picked up a 2008 base with 26k miles last year for my first car. I love it! Timeless styling and driving dynamics.
You got a 12 year old beauty with such little miles? Lucky bastard, I’d go ecstatic if I found a 2001 Honda Prelude with less than 50k miles.
@@kevinnorris6558 man i remember when guys in high school were cool because they had an integra at school, they modded them to death too.
TheTrucker Ed Show From what I’ve heard, integras are REALLY fun and engaging cars to drive. Some regard it as the best Honda ever made. I’d love to own one but truthfully, I couldn’t have peace of mind given that thieves love Honda’s like that. I heard that the integra engines got stolen a lot in the 90’s. Real pity that Acura and Honda don’t make cool cars like that anymore.
Damn, that was a great find!

Johan Ambriz where’d you find one with only 74k??? I thought I was lucky finding mine with only 90k on it!
Caleb Cochran it originally came with 71k and I found it in CALIFORNIA. Bought her last year in March.
This was one of the highlights of the late 2000s and probably peak Acura. The Type S despite being a FWD car really gave a great alternative to the 335i, C350 and of course its Japanese rival the IS 350 something to fear. It was honestly just a SH-AWD system away of being faultless in terms of powertrain.
Yeah if it had SH-AWD it would have been perfection~~ but Acura made this car perfectly despite FWD. They can just take a FWD platform and just make it drive incredibly well.
We literally got that with the 4th gen TL and in a bigger 3.7L engine to boot. You just had to deal with the beak grille which looked much better after 2012
This still stands out today, I always look when I see one. Especially in that Blue👌
eatitjoe the blue, white or red is beautiful
Kinetic Blue would be my second favorite, but Diamond White Pearl on the gunmetal waffles is like bread and butter together can’t go wrong! Super clean and up to date combo!
its the rims, they're very eye-catching
Went from a 9th gen Civic Si to an '06 TL with the 6-speed. Honestly, everything he's said in this video is 100% correct. It's an AMAZING everyday driver that can smoke 3-valve Mustangs, too (;
If anyone's looking for them, the 2004-2006 'base' models with the 6-speed still have most of the performance parts from the later Type S: the LSD, Brembo brakes, and stiffer roll bars. They only thing their missing from the Type S are the cosmetic upgrades (so they look identical to the earlier base models) and the bigger 3.5 engine, but they're incredibly similar.
A 2004-2006 base model with the 6-speed is still faster than the automatic Type S!
Absolutely love my 2008 TL!! Still floating on the roads with 255k miles.. Although my son purchased a 2020, I wish Acura would make a more luxury-sport TL version like this version.
Hey, do you still have your TL? I’m 20 looking at a TL S with 170k miles for 5500, worth it?

I love my 2008 Acura TL. Every time I’m at a stop light and floor it or race someone it always puts a smile on my face with that VTEC crossover these cars were very well engineered and pretty quick for over 10 years ago great car!
The classic Honda chime makes a great sound for an alarm clock
What I find funny is Acura used to get dinged for having too much buttons but now they get dinged for having no buttons lol
I had a 2008 Acura TL Type S Ebony Carbon helluva car. My son now drives it and loves it while he is in college. Modern design that does not age. He still gets compliments on it. No mechanical issues whatsoever. Good video
2007-08 TL Type S are my favorite vehicles from Acura. I think this generation TL was the best looking Acura sedan of all time. The only thing this car was missing is SH-AWD.
Wadson Motoring thought you could get these in AWD?
Wadson Motoring never mind was the 4g you could get in AWD I believe, not this 3g

I just bought a 07 type s with manual transmission and can't help but watch this video over and over.. thank you for making it!
back when dashes looked like sculptures with intergrated infotainment screens, not a cheap looking tablet glued to the top of the dash like so many cars have today.
motaz1975 I have to say, despite it’s age, the dash of this TL still looks attractive even by today’s standards. The screen being integrated into the center console looks so much cleaner than a tablet design, I can’t lie.

This took me BACK. I owned an 05 A-Spec TL in the same NBP paint. One of the best cars I owned. Very timeless design that will never get old.
Acura/Honda needs to find this magic again for sure. Nothing was the same with the brand after the 3G TL.

That look really is timeless. Still embodies something that fits into this generation. Wish they could refine this look and amp up the performance. Would love to see that
Cars like these make me wish I was born earlier so I could buy these brand new back then (given I would have the money).
lol right? 90s baby can relate
Nah trust me your youth is your asset right now. Way more opportunities for you to catch onto
Considering this car I appreciate the honesty. The editing shows your not trying to be some big shot and the narration precisely matched the visuals. Thanks
finally a good modern review of this beauty Thank you! I am a big fan of this car. Good video! TL Type S ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
This TL and original TSX were two best cars Honda/Acura ever made in recent history. Both were amazing to drive with a 6-speed manual. Interior was comfortable and great quality. Price was right. Yes, modern Civic is large, but it has extremely low seats. TL seats were high enough to comfortably get in and get out.
Seats on new civic are horrible got to drive my buddies hatchback 2019 sport , feels like your on the floor. Only thing about the TSX is it's very hard to keep that car from not being stolen for the k24.
@@degoek I am glad I am not the only one feeling this way. I also felt like I am sitting on the floor when I was test driving new Civic. I had no idea TSX is that valuable.

the RL sold like crap but was an amazing car as well. built like a early 90s mercedes

I got huge nostalgia from this video. My dad bought one of these in 2010, I was 5 at the time. It’s one the cars he misses the most. He got a G37S after
Great work! I remember when I was shopping for my first car and I watched your vid on the Acura TL. I was so impressed I made my decision to buy one soon after. A couple years later I got a TL Type S with under 90k miles on it in like new condition for a steal. I'm still driving it today. I wish you still did vids on used cars like you did back in the day. That would really help out buyers looking for something more affordable.

Super happy to see a relevant older car being reviewed! So important in today's world of forgetting what we already have! 💕
I've had 3 of these, still have the 07 base. Love how quiet the engine sounds until you hit the gas, and that sound that comes out. Nice.
Without a doubt the 3rd gen TL is such a timeless design. It was a car that was desirable when I was in middle school back in 2011.

Good to see a car so well taken care of. I have an 07 Base Tl and yes, the dash is cracked but other wise it's still a great driving reliable car at 97k miles. Unlike this one in the video which most likely was garaged kept, mine has fading trim outside and little things showing it's age, but probably going to keep it since new car prices are way too insane. Great review BTW
Keep this old cars reviews. Love it. Also do the ones that still on productions for more than 5 years or 8. It entertain but also informs. Thanks again.

Great car, and great review. Picked up my '08 last summer with 120k miles and still in near perfect shape. These things are tanks and had many people still tell me it looks brand new!

Fernie Type S yup you’re right on that
By far the greatest midsize luxury sedan of its time. It’s sad the current gen TLX doesn’t quite live up to its older twins legacy.
Agreed heck if they would use this as a base for their next model it would kick ass.

My buddy had one and I loved the car. Fun, fast, and handled great plus lots of room.
Still driving 2002 acura cl type s - still banging till this day .
They’re damn hard to find and they definitely hold a premium over a normal accord with a v6, I’ve been trying. I think this is one of the best looking sedans ever made
I had a 2004. the type s didn’t come out till 2006 but dam did I love that car. I put 200k miles on it original motor and trans and it still shifted and drove so smooth. too many other things started to fall apart and fail but for 16 years and over 200k it was an absolute gem!
Thank you for this great review. I bought my base TL with Navi in 2007 and it has been fantastic. 127K miles. The design of this car was one of the best. Always well maintained. Only sad news is it got hit at the supermarket by some idiot and I had to replace the trunk and bumper, but everything is mint. I use the spray polish from West Coast customs and Master Formula. Will never sell it even when I get the 2021 type S. Been waiting 13 plus years. My car does some serious hard charging from Vegas to LA 4 times per year and to this day it just goes. Nothing can keep up the whole distance. The car is not perfect. I wish the trunk was bigger so it can carry two big suitcases. All the leather seats had to be replaced (two front under warranty) because they all cracked. The interior silver trim pieces have worn but cost $600 to replace. The windshield edge rubber came out so I taped it nicely because a new set cost $450 for each side as it runs across the roof line. The center arm rest is sagging and will be replaced soon with the drivers side leather seat. I am gonna replace the expensive headlights because they are starting to fade a little despite constant care. Just replaced the liquid filled electronically controlled engine mounts which are $250 each. But never mind because when I listen to that engine I am happy. One of the best engines ever made. Reliability with performance. No turbo bullshit. I put a K&N of course. Just like my 1989 Honda Accord SE which keeps my Acura company in the garage. Come on Honda/Acura I need that 2021 type S.
The best generation of any Acura. Absolutely timeless design.
Love the bloopers included😂👍
I love the 3G TL. I still own a 2005 base TL in white diamond pearl thats professionally detailed with slight mods and it still turns heads to this day...
I have had two TLs and two TL-S over the years and both the 2nd and 3rd gen TLs own a timeless design, the later more so than the prior. I remember seeing the 3rd gen prototype at the NY auto show back in 2003 and immediately falling in love with the design. After selling my 06 a few years ago I had been on the hunt for a nice TL-S 6 speed and luckily that hunt came to fruition yesterday as I found an 07 6 speed NBP TL-S locally, its mechanically sound just needs some TLC, a keeper for sure.
It's an amazing classic.

YAY! A classic Redline car!
That was a cool ass car. FWD in a performance car kind of sucks, but that was a very fun car for what it was at the time. There’s not a lot of Type-S’ on the market and they’re usually beat up, but if you’re able to find one in decent shape, I would jump on it.
Yup went from an awd volvo and the acura would be so much faster if the front whells didnt slip

Great video! I enjoyed it! I have seen this car in person and from a few feet away it appears to be brand new! It does have a certain styling that that does not make it seem like it is 12 years old. It was nice to see how it performs in this video, since Keith won't let me drive it! ;)
