Acura is accurate Honda
Honda means "original rice paddy"
All I can say is, the car seems to work pretty well at a pretty good price point. And with how trustworthy Hondas/Acuras have been in my time driving them, this might be my aim tbh.
For an average person who enjoys some speed but doesn't always drive crazy, should work top notch.
Lol i know this is a year old but i agree with you, this car is giving me some meloy chill vibes and i dig it

I went from an Acura TLX to a BMW m235i. This is definitely a nice step up from the one I had. Driving experience not even comparable between the two but I do miss the comfort of the Acura and how all of the electronics just work and it had the coldest damn air conditioning I've ever felt. Can't say the same for the Bimmer.
I've never driven a BMW & currently I drive an 18 Tlx aspec but I did own an 08 Audi A4 & one things for sure with the European cars such as Mercedes, bmw, & Audi it's a must that you keep them under warranty because maintenance can get very costly

Well when you are comparing a higher trim level Honda to Lexus, BMW, Volvo, and Cadillac, it should have a better value.
@@flavious27 he's talking about dealers marking up the car over the sticker price lol
Saw one of these at a local cars and coffee this weekend; dealer brought it out. $10k markup on the window sticker
@@thechicagobearsftw Complete BS. As soon as I have some time later this week I'm going to swing by my local dealer to see what's up. Looking to replace my Stinger at the end of the year but if they're asking for a dime over MSRP I'll walk out laughing at them.
it's just a acura, 54k is already very high. It's not a BMW or Audi
Being an Acura owner myself (2012 MDX), I’m
Super encouraged by the future of the brand
People saying this car is too expensive? What are you talking about? It’s about $15,000 more than an Accord Touring 2.0T. It’s AWD, significantly faster, a much higher level of fit/finish, and some extra warranty (+ a better name plate). It’s a “near luxury” car that competes well with its actual competitors. Like Doug said, “it’s a good deal.” Go spec a similar BMW. It’s not going to be $54,000.
A kia Stinger is 10k cheaper CAD and is quicker. Let that sink in. Knowing this has severely depressed me.
Also the BMW M340i is $54,700 USD MSRP doing 0-60 in 4.4s with a twinpower inline 6
@@trippykidgaming4243 Yes, but acura is looking really agressive, more than bmw
@@trippykidgaming4243 The stinger is not in the same luxury segment as this car. Which is why it’s cheaper, but it shouldn’t be THAT much cheaper
@@Fifthcell yes but even so, the BMW M340i give actual german luxury with more power...
Say what you want about Acura, but they are at the top-tier of IMSA racing in the DPi category which is honestly really exciting to watch.

I'm sad they aren't aligned with Penske anymore but it's still cool to see Acura being very competitive in IMSA.
In England we don’t have Acura , we have Honda and a lot of Honda’s are made here in Swindon , they are a bulletproof product and I know a few people who have written off Type R’s !!!

Lmaoooo facts
"Tiger's eye is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock with a golden to red-brown colour and a silky lustre." That's where the name of the color comes from. They're beautiful as polished stones.
My guess is the transmission buttons were designed that way, with different feel and shape to each one so you would definitely know the one you touch without looking is the one you want. Actually common on many Honda models too. No two buttons are alike for a reason. Noticed this driving auction cars on a lot as a job.
Actually, any controls shaped uniquely are going to be easier to find without looking compared to some brands which make everything similar shape which takes your eyes off the road to find the control you want. Good design.
Agreed. Once you use it a few times, it's really easy to use without looking. The three most common buttons are the easiest. Park is at the very top, reverse is a trigger, and drive is a round, framed button at the very bottom. I prefer it to some Germans where its a shifter but the park button is on the shifter itself.
I feel like Acura is going to begin doing what they should've years ago and give us some cheaper performance cars to bridge the gap between the NSX. At least I hope they do that...
They tried and gave a shot for a big one ,but failed. Honda is known for cheap/mid valued cars . Imo , if they slowly climbed the model/performance ladders and launched sport cars at a step each , the modern NSX would've still held the legacy of the 90 NSX and sold well. They just got back into the game too abruptly , it was years when they last released a supercar and I think if they launched good performing sport cars(not talking about the tuning market) and held their position and reputation as luxury/sport cars brand, the modern NSX would've sold well...
@@alchemist2048 I definitely agree. Personally I really like the new NSX but they just took way too long to release it and don’t really have any lesser models to back themselves up as a performance brand
Im hoping they will add a coupe option. I mean they should.. another rsx or integra would really grab my attention .
If this car sells then they’ll definitely do it.
This is Acura testing the waters by dipping their big toe with a car like this!

Take a shot every time Doug says “Type S”… you’ll be passed out on the floor less than 5 minutes into the video
i have this car in the a-spec version and it really is a well rounded sport sedan with extra power, i disagree with the styling score i think they nailed it out of the park, i honestly think it is probably of of the, if not the best designed sedans to come out within the past 5 years
That’s really not saying much. Acura’s have looked ghastly since 2008, or 15 years ago. You might be too young to remember the ghastly bird beak grill.
Same here. The A-spec may not turn heads, but I like it being that way. My A-spec is well-rounded and always spawns impressive responses if I bring a friend.
I've driven several BMWs, and while I can certainly get better performance out of them, I still chose the TLX because I found the car to be much more friendly from the start. There are a few weird aspects with the infotainment system, but I moved past them within a week of ownership. I used to drive a Subaru Outback, which is rated specifically for safety, but I actually feel safer in the TLX because the ergonomics are easier and reduce how long I get distracted if I need to handle a phone call or change the music.
We're obviously talking about completely different types of cars here, and that's a reasonable argument. However, I believe Subaru(and most other brands!) could do a better job of designing the controls favoring quick access by the driver, which then helps return the driver's focus back to the road faster. Acura definitely hit a grand slam with the TLX, as well as the further performance models.
That's definitely the most compelling car besides the NSX that Acura has made in over a decade. Looks sick and seems priced right, too.
Lol may pick one of these up to replace my g37xS in a few years when depreciation sets the market for them!
Is that it?
The new MDX looks good too. I like what they did to their new grille design
The tiger-eye propably refers to a chatoyant gemstone. Its color is nearly identical to the one on THIS TLX and that of an eye of a tiger (not the survivor song)
Tiger eye is probably what you need since all of these are marked up 10k. A M340 is cheaper
And where do you think the mineral got it's name from? The animal? Or another mineral?
In this case, it refers to a paint color that is a clever and subtle compromise between puke and babyshit.
I suspect the gemstone was named for… a tiger’s eye!

I’m a biased Acura fan so my take probably will be taken with a grain of salt. But almost every review of the TLX type S praises the handling and the performance AWD system. Yet Doug didn’t like the handling, I wonder if he’s pushed the car to its limits to really test its capabilities or he’s just talking about how the controls and handling feels on an everyday basis not performance basis...

@@mbtt7420 yeah that guy is an idiot 😂 Acura just change the game
@@mbtt7420 exactly. Companies gotta sell large volumes of boring cars before they make the fun ones!
Been driving Acuras for 6 years now. Delighted with them. No hassles. Fast enough for me.
15:14 Should have added Type-S specific animation Animation when selecting Driving Modes. Normal TLX is shown here.
meh good to know
I'm surprised Doug didn't mention that quirk.
Good catch mate. What a bummer from Acura
Does it fucking matter? You all are just being perfectionists and I hate perfectionists.
@@automation7295 Yes. Attention to detail is very important. Hate is a very strong word. Here’s a snickers bar.
I NEED this car yesterday, I love Acura, they make such reliable cars, that also handle and drive amazing, also easy to maintain and are just great, nothing too over engineered, now that they have a type S again, I need it...
Yeah this car won't be reliable
Karl Parato why not
@@gangsterbroccoli any car that is pushed in design for any kind of performance will have more problems.....does not matter who makes it.
@@kgpax idk I have a Type S 2nd Gen TL and it’s really reliable for being a performance version of a normal car, now it does have a faulty automatic transmission that can blow up for no reason other than it felt like it but that goes for all of the 2nd Gen TLs not just the Type S
@@a_car_dude_with_a_camera the Honda v6 is definitely not their most reliable engine...my shop has had to replace a couple of these already thar have not even made it to 30K
I look forward to the day Doug does is Integra review. I just want to hear his banter on the design direction, and the unshakeable feeling that what he is looking at is a ILX in ill fitting Integra branded clothing.
I would just like to take a moment and appreciate the fact that Doug is wearing a Small World Coffee tshirt. I grew up right down the road from small world and never did i think i would see a Small World tshirt in a Doug Demuro video. nice touch
Doug really left out the RSX Type S when listing type S models
Yeah probably Acura’s most well-known Type S
and when mentioning performance models from Acura, left out the Integra Type-R entirely, which is one of the most amazing 4 cylinder cars ever made.
I think he left the RSX and Integra out since since they were really a different category of vehicle. The CL and TL were much more direct predecessors.
He doesn't really know japanese cars too well
Integra gsr.
Tigers Eye likely refers to the stone not the animal. I'm down with the brown.
The name of the stone very clearly refers to the animal though
@@williamschneider5869 Touché. Well, the color of the car refers to the color of the stone, which refers to the animal.
I owned both the 1st and 2nd gen Type-S and loved them.....might have to get this one too 😆
I usually dislike those "burnt orange" colors but this is pretty cool ... I love the interior and that exhaust note
Just a note. Doug spent 1 minute and 50 seconds complaining about a "plate" cover in the grille.
He's clearly not a fan of Hondas/Acuras when you've seen all his videos as he nit-picks the shit out of them versus other brands, but he also never fails to compliment their reliability.
I mean he was also explaining why it was there and to be fair it does look like shit
@@PetesCreativeRecycling doug doesnt care about reliability because he recommends leasing over buying
@@yungboicontigo9278 dawg your name says enough... stop talking
@@yungboicontigo9278 it's like you don't even read comments all the way before jumping to conclusions. If you keep this up, you should pack a parachute.
Those exhaust tips seem to be a bit "huge" for that rear😉
They're perfect and they're real thank goodness
why would u complain about big exhausts in this age of extreme fakery of exhausts? its purrfect! 🤤
@@pinkcitrus98 you're right😂😂
I love how comically big they are. It’s like Acura is saying FUCK YOU
its trying to outsized the gtr’s
I had a ‘10 TSX once that was annihilated in a wreck. It might have been just an ‘Accord that knew someone’ but it had everything a man could want, and more! 😎
Bro I love your content!!!
So almost the performance of a 3 series but won’t break down and when it does it won’t cost an arm and a leg to repair.
A breakdown is highly unlikey in anything made by Honda. That B M Troubleyou though...
It will cost an arm
I have a big respect for Honda when he explained the decision making for that plate on the front, most European car companies wouldn't care about their customer's wallet and just put it on the front for styling.
Plus it's almost $10k cheaper compared to a similarly optioned out M340i
@@-SP. Bro the Type S is marked up all across the US lol. You're paying at least 65k out the door. Wayyyy more expensive than a BMW M340I.
Can’t really imagine someone buying this vehicle for the backseat. Family’s now really spring for SUV’s.
It's not for backseat. It's for back wheels.........almost. He said its a rear baised.
After sitting in the TLX rear seat with the front set to my position, it's perfectly fine if you're 6 feet tall or less. It's about the same space as a 3-series and a little better than the Lexus IS and Genesis G70.
Of course but since the category of this car is "daily driver sedan with extra performance" rather than a full on sports car that's small / light or a two seater, it's nice to know you can take some friends in the back if needed... I own a TLX myself, and while I don't use the back seats a ton, they have come in handy every now and then. And I can put a kid's seat back there too ...
@@WakanaGojoAE86 Also, this car is NOT rear-biased. SH-AWD is awesome, sure, but it's not rear biased, it only sends more power to the back when needed, it usually sends more to the front (which is perfectly fine), and adds torque vectoring in turns if you accelerate out of them. I guess it kinda acts a bit like it was rear biased where it counts, even though for fuel economy purposes, it's pulling from the front with less drivetrain losses. The TLX has surprisingly good fuel economy, I've done 35mpg on my 3.5L V6 ... !
@@TheBreakfastLover Totally false. Sat behind the Salesman who is 5'8", and my knees were absolutely crushed in the hard seat back. I'm 6'3". This car is squarely a mid size sedan in terms of size, but makes the claim it competes with compact sedans. It's completely unacceptable that even the Honda Civic, a car that is 11 inches shorter, still has 3 inches more leg room than this.
You are going really fast on this review !!
I have an 07 TL Type-S with a 6-speed manual fantastic car
