The #AcuraTL has had a long history in the Acura portfolio here in the US. A replacement for the old Acura Vigor in the 90's, the #TL quickly grew to become the best-selling model in Acura's US lineup. Evolving over the years into a legitimate sport sedan rivals to the German players, while maintaining Acura's reputation of better value and much better reliability. Acura hit a high point in the mid-2000's with the 3rd generation #AcuraTLTypeS but things took a turn for the worst in 2009 when the beak-line front fascia appeared on the 4th generation. In 2015, the TL was replaced with the #AcuraTLX and sales never quite recovered. Can Acura once again find its glory days with the next-generation #TLX due in 2021? - Авто/Мото
wheres my 3rd Generation Acura TL people at 🙌🏼🔥
Most traded in their 3rd gen for new tlx or rdx
김동준 lol NO i would only trade mine for an M5 or nicer not a shitty tlx or rdx lmfao
@@methodicalmayhem3556 I am keeping mine for a future boost project and picking up an IS-F in the future heheheh
Still got mine. 2008 with 130K on the odometer. Still running and looking great!
I'm here man in South Carolina with a 2008 Silver Acura TL type S with 6 speed manual trans!
This is everything you need to now, to get up to speed, with the Acura TL !! didididum didi dididudimdum. Oh wait, wrong show.
THEKOOL4iDMAN697 ur lame
THEKOOL4iDMAN697 they’re amazing lol you must be smoking crack
Every show on Earth has a formula, if it didn’t, it wouldn’t be a show. James specially is very passionate about his style, if not it would be another storytelling andy. PS. Sofyan is also passionate, nobody would do this for 7 years if they weren’t.
The TL's demise? Two things; 1) The beak 2) SUV's. I had a 2006 TL. Loved it.
SUVs are a cancer to the auto industry 😒
Also it’s demise is it engine choices, lack of style in the interior, luxury elements, just doesn’t compete with the rivals that it’s targeting.
Scoop205 ...It’s not a terrible car, it just can’t compete with other selections in its category. It makes for a great choice in the used car market. A SH-AWD with low miles can be had for under $20,000. It’s a lot of car for that money.
Smoke Stack you’re correct and I agree with u! However, Acura always said they want to have cars to go against the rivals and this new 2019 TLX is a nice car but how can you expect to go against the revivals and you’re not putting much work into it. Like he said, Acura isn’t selling a numerous amount of cars and they are struggling to keep up just like Nissan. But then again you do have cars this new TLX can compete with including Infiniti products and possibly Genesis as well but honestly you get more bang for your buck even in the Genesis
.
Steve Abrams I had a 2001 for 13 1/2 yrs , have had the 2006 since then. Still love it .
Maan!!! The 3rd generation TL is the best acura ever!!!
I own 2 TLs. 07 types S manual. 2011 6MT. Make no mistake, the 3rd gen Is not even on the same league as the 4th gen with a manual. I daily drive the 3rd gen, but when I really want to smile I take the 4th out. It is a superb car, and the best TL ever made
The 3rd gen also looks better all around despite the modern bird beak 4th gen
The 3rd gen is one of my favorite looking sedans still til this day. I would love to find a clean low-mileage Type-S.
Yes what at time for acura they also had the RSX-S
I remember drooling over the 3rd gen Type-S when I was in high school when they were still new.
I was nervous to watch this because I didn't want to see the TL and TLX butchered.... But this was the best video that You've done sir!!! I absolutely loved the look back into the past with Acura and the current generation of where Acura is going.... And of course a peek into the future. Thanks for this, I can't wait to see what the new 2021 TLX will debut as (visually).
Agree, in fact, you stoled the words from my mouth, best video in some time.
I drive now a '15 Accord coupe v6, not the manual, but love this car dearly!
Same here. He did a good job but they do need to get butchered. I use to be acura fan but the day Lexus seems to be a luxury car over Acura I changed. Acura just feel like a upscale Honda. That's not kool.........Lexus doesn't feel like a upscale Toyota. Acura just way too close. I have seen Honda accords with more features than Acura due to the fact it's not being updated like Honda. Crazy
@Benjamin Burkhardt I love my TSX
Yup, terrific video!
Why do you guys buy Honda. I just want to know what makes people say “give me that sexy new accord “ like I’m confused.
Should definitely make more videos reviewing the different generations of a model. Love this!
Where all my 3rd gen Acura TL owners at! 08 Type S 🔥💯🔥
J-Series is one of the best V6 engines ever made.
it needs more power and easier to mod.
Acura needs to improve their current lineup.
Honda The Power Of Dreams by power?
the car brand is irreverent, i honesty think the car brand will be gone within 5 years
love when people say something dumb but have no reasoning
@@TheRuturaj001 Acura sales a poor amount of cars per year, you dont see that many new ones on the road. MDX only sold 5k units last year. At this point they should just disconnected the brand and move some of the cars over to Honda
it actually doesnt have to exist
Right now i'am on my 3rd Acura TL
1.1996 Acura TL
2. 2004 Acura TL
3 currently 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD
Right now i'am looking at a 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD with 135,000 miles.
Patrick Boyd Have you had any major issues with your ‘09 TL? Currently looking at a ‘10 TL AWD with just over 100,000 miles.
Patrick Boyd I had a 2001 for 13.5 yrs , and have had a 2006 ever since (has 108k)
I used to work for acura dealership from 2001 to 2006 & that o4 thru 08 sold like hotcakes all day long they were sold before even coming off that car hauler!! I hope 2021 acura brings it back to there roots waiting for that review soyfan bey!! love your reviews cant wait till u review the next gen💯
Yep! I miss those horizontal LED side markers. They made TL stand out. Not sure what they were thinking going back to a bubble sedan.
@@longwalkshortpier I agree that third 3rd gen was the best in my opinion.
I'm so glad you made a video like this. I have faith in Acura for the future.
Great video on the history of Acura’s TL. Truly an iconic model for Acura. Here’s hoping they hit a home-run with the updated model for 2021. 👍
I’ll second that. If they don’t there’s always the tls. “Timeless”.
As long as it remains front-wheel drive it will never be taken seriously.
I had a 2005 tl and a 2012 tl. Huge difference between the generations. When the tlx came out it was so disappointing it hadnt even crossed my mind to upgrade to it.
I am thinking about trading in my 2009 TL SH-AWD for the 2012 TL SH-AWD how is the ride quality.
>not buying a american car
pathetic af
I have a 2012 AWD, had a couple TLX loaners and would never trade my TL in on one.
@@patrickboyd3364 Same generation ya? I'd say it's probably pretty similar, the 2012+ just looks a tad sharper. 2012 always felt heavy and cumbersome, not as agile as the 3rd gen. Got a GTI after :) :)
@@ivangamer8022 american manufacturers don't make cars anymore just cuvs :)
I own a 2019 shawd aspec, its has much better ride and performance than 08 TL. It makes more than enough power for daily commute and spirited driving.
Umer SH-AWD aspec, that’s what as up, would you get a type S if it ever came to be?
@@chickenmcjigglets2904 It depends, I would get it if ride is not harsher than my TLX and looks just as good as concept. I do love the body lines of my TLX and I got the white one so desgin accents pop very well.
Did you have any issues with vibrations at high speeds? I sell acuras and thats been an issue since 2015
@@rrajeevy no vibration I've noticed.
yeah but slower
I have a 2006 Acura TSX with a little over 28 thousand miles on it I love that car.
The final frontier 1 great cars, I have 2006 tsx with 94k. So much fun to drive especially with good tires
Matt masteringer absolutely I got so lucky I found mine off Facebook lol. It was a older couple that bought the car brand new and only averaged about 1500 miles a year. I got a pretty nice deal. But I just love the look of it. It’s true it has a timeless style that never gets old in my eyes.
TSX was a great timeless car. Bummer I had to total mine 😔
I’ve got an 08. 200k miles. Runs like a champ
Jamie Roseman that’s awesome to hear because I plan on driving mine to the wheels fall off!
I think the base Model should use the engine in RDX & a twin turbo V6 with 330 to 350 HP would be good ... if they make a type S 400 or more HP would be good.
“The steering wheel has girth, it’s meaty” mmmmhmm lol ...Sofan !!!
Watching the film clip of the TL Type S, made me miss my 08 TL. Looking forward to the 2021 TLX. Really hope Acura brings back everything to love on the 3rd generation.
It would be great if Honda would sell it in Europe as accord, with the manual transmission.
Thanks for doing this video. Lots to relate to in here. In the mid 2000s my dad picked up a '00 TL and a year or two after my mom got a gently used CL-S and we definitely fell in love with VTEC as a family. I went on to own two RSX type S, both with the cold air intake and I savoured every single VTEC crossover!
I like the idea of diversifying your channel and doing something a little different then just car reviews. I am enjoyed this video👍🏿
I loved my 06 TL! I had to click when I seen this notification 🙌🏾
I have a 04 TL manual with 205k miles and I love it, and the only way I’ll trade it in is if Acura makes a ILX type S with the type R motor, with the option of the 10 speed from the RDX or the 6 speed from the type R
Because I highly doubt there will be a manual transmission on the TLX type s
Alex's Customs The ILX is meant to be a low-cost version of an Axura which has a now somewhat dated interior despite it's 2nd refresh, but what said could be a possibility with the next gen TLX with the Type S or even the A-Spec
NileshR12 I know but with how few manuals sell I can’t see Acura putting a manual in the TLX, but with the ILX it’s based on the civic’s architecture, so it wouldn’t be hard to see them putting the civic type R’s drivetrain in it (the current ILX is just last generation civic SI with a dual clutch)
Like I’ve driven the type R and I like how it drives, but I don’t like it’s stylings I’d rather have something more subtle
And I mean this on the NEXT generation ILX not the current one
@@romulas-cushmanproject3273 last generation Civic?
Both the Accord and Civic offer better options to its ILX and TLX counterparts.
@@ashs3380 so sad for a premium brand name like Acura.
Watched from beginning to end, great video. This was so informative and nostalgic for me. More of these would be amazing.
perfect video! i loved how you actually had someone with a 3G Tl type-S to drive the new tlx for an honest review.
i've been watching your vids even before you had had your own channel keep up the good work, you have the best HD detailed car reviews on youtube👏🏾
2 of my all time favorite cars were the Acura Legend Coupe and the 3rd gen TL
Loving these new segments you're coming up with Sofian. Keep it up! Looking forward to the next one!
Finally! I’ve been waiting for this video since you went live and announced you’d be making a review. Hit this review out the park!
My first car 93 integra then bought a 04 TSX now in a 15 TLX AWD always loved how reliable the brand is ... love redline videos !!
My buddy Keith did a great job and nice that he offered the use of his Acura for this video. Very good comparison.
Keep up with this format 👌🏼
Warning! Gets a little naughty at the 18 min mark 🤣🤣
Matt D lol, my gaydor is off the roof
You should definitely do more videos examining the history of certain models. Loved it!
So cool to see so many TL / CL fans still out there! Yes I echo what everyone else says that Sofyan’s look back at the nameplate through the years was AWESOME 👏🏾. Question would you all support Acura if they brought the TL TypeS back with a high performance all electric or hybrid power plant like the NSX❓
I forgot to mention that I had two CL TypeS 00 Red & a 03 Silver. I also had 2004 TSX. ❤️ Acura back in the day and like what they did with the RDX.
I’m all for a proper replacement, anything for a proper sedan to be made and not some stupid crossover.
My 2000 TL that was bought since new is still going strong! We got lucky that when the transmission was replaced under warranty it was in 2006 with the redesigned model and no problems since :)
I currently own a 2007 TL Type-S and I love it! Its design is timeless and it is peak Acura in my opinion. Hopefully they recapture what made them so successful in the early to mid-2000s.
I like when you do these types of videos. Keep up the good work
Thanks for awesome history lesson man! I have always loved the TL series even in their low years which is why I ultimately chose my '19 TLX Advanced. Love your channel so much, keep up the great work! 🏎️🏎️🏎️
Love the Saran-n-Tuned shout out!
Thanks for this! I agree the 3rd gen was one of the most epic cars of my teenage years. The 4th gen was pretty nice and I didn’t mind it after the facelift. Current TLX is a disappointment though. It’s so meh looking and the tech has been bad since launch. I’m still excited for the next gen, I’d love to get another Acura that gets back to the glory days!
I really like how you are doing these Marspeed‐like videos. They are really interesting and they are a very good addition. Keep it up Sofyan! Love your work!
Really cool seeing the history of the vehicle! Acura definitely has a shorter history in the U.S than many automakers but still an interesting history. Great video!
This is one of the best videos you’ve done and I hope you make more like it.
Dropping sales after the 2010s is due to the rise of the crossover craze.
and ppl recovering from the recession
an awful craze if i must add
That had a little to do with it but the design of that generation was awful with that ugly beak and it looked huge. It was no longer sleek and sexy like the third gen.
Ryan Garr yes but acura really shitted the bed with the 4th gen tl.
Sofyan... Gotta say you've always gave the TL a lot of attention. Glad to see it getting some love still!
I really like these history videos on car brands
LMAOOOOO @ Tyson Hugie w/his fine self! Great review Sofyan! I think you should do more then & now reviews like this!

I loved my 2006 Acura TL. so much fun to drive. I currently enjoy my 2011 RDX with SHAWD, but I got my eyes open for that new Type S. I always wanted the 2008 TL Type S.
Omg I love these videos sofyan like they brought back so many memories of when I had my type S with a Manual (sadly got totaled after someone hit me), I remember having so much fun with mine. Awesome video as always and ps LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️ These car history videos👌🏻
Its really sad I miss the old Acura 😔 😢
This is why redline review is the best interesting I like the older TL more especially the type S, I was about to buy a TL but learned that the dashboard has a cracking up problem so I decided to buy a TSX instead
One of my favorite videos you have made so far . Finally a TL Type S being recognized 🙏🙏🙏
I have only owned one Acura, a 2001 CL Type S. It was a great car with power, handling, and very good build quality. I really liked this video as it was a very thoughtful and an informative look at the history of this car! Well done!
Wow! Loved that video, cause I simply loved that car back in the day. Every time they redesigned it, I got mad at first, only to fall in love with it again. The TLX was never there to stay in my opinion. They need to just stick to what they wanna do and not give in to the market's demand. I believed they lost sight when they began listening to people's complaints about the TL. Throughout the 2010's, every new car had some TL in their lines. Acura needs to get back to being trend setters instead of following customer's demands!!! Great video!!! Thanks
So glad this video was posted! I own an 06 TL with 155k miles, with a majority of them being highway miles from the previous owner. Bought it in my junior year of high school back in 2017 from an older man who said he wasn’t planning on driving it anymore. Great condition! Three years later at 19 years old, I still love it. Such a special car it still looks GORGEOUS in the white pearl and tinted windows when it’s freshly washed!
Please make more stuff like this, i enjoy these videos
The 4th gen TL aged even better than fine wine looks even better now than when released. I remember it getting soo much flake for the front beak and silver plastic pieces, but once you body color painted it looked very good, plus it's the only TL with SH-AWD & manual.
Oh wow, used to love Acuras in the 90s and first decade of 2000s. Owned an Integra and then a TL (2006ish I think). And then they just dropped the ball. Great video.
thanks for the history..love your reviews and background stories
Love these videos. The sales will never recover as the surge for SuVs continue.
Nice!! I just sold my 04 TL after owning it for 10 years. Miss that thing already
What did you replace it with and how meany miles was on it.
Informative and well done!
Very good video, love these extras
I loved this video ! Thanks for making it. You should do this exact same video with an Infiniti G!
Great idea! We'll see about requesting a Q50 to make it happen :)
Redline Reviews definitely should do one on Infiniti.
Absolutely do the Infiniti!
Another nice video Sofoyan. Good Job!
Great overview and I still own my 2014 TL A-Spec with the 305HP motor. It was a leased car but i couldn’t hand over the keys to the dealership because I LOVED IT so much so I bought it. I can’t wait for the 2021 TL Type S but they better get the HP to be over 400HP or Acura will be disappointed in sales. Also they better have an aggressive stance to the car as well. I am sure Acura executives watched this video and I just hope they nail it when they launch the car. If they do I will be an owner for sure.
Soyfan, the 2004-2008 TL was said to produce 270hp but starting in 2006 Acura revamped how they measure hp and without making any changes they started to rate the 3.2 at 258hp not 270! I bought a 2006, 6 speed manual with Navi option. The 6 speed was a disappointment from day one. The shifter hung up on quick 2/3 shifts and the clutch turned to mush when driven aggressively. The dealer had NO solution. So after 10 years and 158K miles I decided to trade her in for a Ford Focus ST3. What a great car! The shifter blew the Honda shifter out of the water. The handling for the ST3 was better as well. Even the brakes were even. Considering the TL had Brembo’s, this was truly surprising.
Proud owner of a 4th gen TL with a manual transmission. Driving this car is the only thing that puts a smile on my face after a bad day
Isn’t that what beer is for?

This video was great! I'm shock you didn't mention the lil brother of the TL the CL. If they was the bring back CL as like a baby nsx they would definitely get some buyer back over the Acura with the redesigned tlx and offer both the tlx and clx in type S tirms.
My dream mobile back in College was that 3rd Gen TL never cared for Honda/Acura, yet the TL was one of my favorite cars of all time and would have been mine if not for financial reasons... refreshing see this video, so much attention given to a car that’s been butchered and forgotten about yet was one of the most popular cars for enthusiasts
Great video. It makes me appreciate my '07 Type S.
I remember when my little brother had a 4 door 02 type s and I had a 99 lexus gs400 one night we were doing stop light battles and it was right there with me barely beating it
Still daily driving my 2005 Acura TL 6spd. Things I love: Reliable, fun, 30 mpg on the highway. Things I hate: Torque steer, the entire nav system stopped working years ago so I can't even set the clock. Trying to keep it until 2025, but unfortunately, with no manual transmission option, my next car will not be an Acura :-(
Awesome video! U should do more of these. Perhaps do one on the mazda 6

Great job! Please a history story for the g37
I had that 02 Type S and loved it. Such a fun car to drive.
I love my 08 TL Type-S so much
Love the video on the Acura lineage and really hoping they wake up from their coma with the new tlx redesign they keep teasing. On the plus side if you wanted a pre owned tlx you could probably get a killer deal once the redesign finally hits. Also Sofyan no shade, but when you do these kinds of vids you might want to alter how you format your monologues so it isn’t so obvious that you’re reading lines away from the camera. Just feels kind of strange while watching the vid and your face is staring off center like that.
Calisto Riviera Thanks for the feedback, this style of video is so new we’re still perfecting the formula. Ultimately, Sofyan works best when he isn’t scripted and we will be sure future videos in this style are shot that way.

Im really excited for the new MDX cause it looks like they are gonna step up in the interior and simplify the outside
No clue how happy I am to see an Acura video. I have an 05 TSX
As always, you did a serious amount of homework and hit every nail on the head. I had a 2000 TL with a post '05 trans that unfortunately failed in 2015. Even 5 years later, I miss the hell out of that car. When I bought it in 2012, the 3rd gen (especially the Type-S) was seriously out of my price range. Now, most of the 3rd gens are ragged out, and as you stated the nice ones are super pricey (justifiably so- they're great cars). If the transmission hadn't failed in my 2nd generation, I'd still be driving it today.
