    At first i thought she wouldn't need to stop, but until i really looked and saw he was on his phone, head down, not paying attention, walking on a crossing which traffic light was green... as a learner, I don't blame her. Don't think she should've got scolded for that. She should've checked her centre mirror though to see how close the car behind is to make a better judgement. But she reacted well, bless her.

      Yes, that's just Erin's missing experience (and Aman's “Brake” instruction wasn't clear in my opinion). The pedestrian's choice wasn't very smart either. But the other driver is still the bigger idiot, in my opinion. They were either following too close or impatient. The car has a L on it and brakes at a traffic light when someone is crossing. Just wait five seconds, the following traffic light was red anyway. What's the rush? “Unsafe to stop”? Sure. But what about “Unsafe to cross the road” or “unsafe to overtake”?

    You dealt with that situation with the idiot crossing the road between traffic very professionally, Aman. In my experience with my first instructor, he would have raised my voice at me, which is why I got another one. Learner drivers make mistakes, and pressure leads to more mistakes, so seeing you help Erin through that was brilliant. Erin looked like she got a bit flustered, but it didn't get affect her confidence, and that's partially thanks to you. Keep doing what you're doing!!

      Brake does mean slow down in instructions. Stop means stop, the instructor would have developed her use of language with the pupil in other lessons. Unfortunately pupils will hear turn left, and actually turn right, happens every day, and she probably completely understood the command, it just didn’t process clearly at that time

      hmm some interesting differences of opinion here. I dunno who is at fault, it's a unique situation that doesn't get spoken about until it happens. I had something similar happen like this on my motorcycle test years ago, and the instructor told me I can't just stop on a main road to give way to traffic lol. If I hadn't made that mistake I know for a fact it wouldnt have been brought up. We are lucky to have these videos to allow us to learn from others mistakes

    I wish I had this channel when I was learning to drive. My tutor wasn't ideal and raised his voice at me a few times for making simple mistakes that learners are going to make. Having something like this to get the lesson info in a calm way without being on the lesson and stressed, just seems ideal. I'm sure you're helping thousands of people get through their journey

    • @Kirsty_Harper
      @Kirsty_Harper Год назад +4

      @@monerakifai6089 I would say from my experience it's okay to be nervous whilst driving, I still am now even though I've passed and definitely was on my test!! You just have to make sure you stay in control of the car and most importantly stay safe, don't let your nerves make you rush something as you could be causing a danger which would be a fail on the test, except maybe times such as merging into a lane or on a roundabout where it may be best to put more gas on so you're not holding up traffic behind you. I know my instructor would say 'dont change your mind change your approach' eg if I decided to take a gap at a junction and then realised it wasn't as big as I thought, it was better to speed up and take the gap faster rather than instead choose to wait when I may already be in the road and blocking traffic. Also don't be afraid to tell your instructor of things you're worried about or get confused on, they can help explain what to do and what not to do so the next time you're nervous about the same thing you can remember what they said to help you feel better. Also, I watched so many youtube videos I can't count them but they all defo helped, clearview driving, DGN driving school and conquer driving (who also has a video about helping with nerves) were the biggest three that helped me but theres loads more! The mock tests are brilliant for making sure you know exactly what to expect and what you need to do in the driving test which is a massive boost, and try some with your own instructor if you can. Lastly I think is just to stay in the moment when you're driving and focus on what you're currently doing and seeing rather than worrying about things that went wrong in the past or what might in the future. Hope this all makes sense and can help you with your driving!! Let me know how your test goes and good luck!!

    Poor Erin!
    One thing my driving instructor told me which I still say aloud today in the situation is "Less Space, Less Speed". It reminds me that okay I have less space coming up due to a narrow road, parked cars or some other hazard, so I need to slow down. It's like Aman said, slowing down gives you more time to react and deal with the hazards. It's all practice and 100% a confidence thing.
    I was a super nervous learner like Erin but practice helps alot with confidence.

      @Kara Zor-El I didn't say she was right to emergency brake? If anything, I pointed out that continuing slowly would have been safer as people who step out like this have often already picked a gap to cross through and stopping suddenly is obviously dangerous with drivers behind you.
      Based on the reactions of the vehicle behind, there was danger both from the pedestrian and following traffic. It was an all-around bad incident for a beginner to have to deal with and really shows why it's so incredibly dangerous to act unpredictably near a novice driver. The vehicle overtaking as Erin was trying to move off again did nothing to make the situation better, either.

Also mentioned on one of the previous videos that she has a habit for sharp braking a bit like at 0:15. Better to roll in slower and not make the judgment so early but it can be difficult to gauge it, but wasn't too sharp here

    I've had like 80 hours or so (possibly more) now some with different instructors but regardless I've had 60 hours with the one instructor I'm with now. It's been a long journey since April 2022 but I have had some breaks between lessons as well (at times like one month), some bad experiences with previous instructors as well which knocked my confidence. Last lesson which was a month ago, I did my first mock test and it wasn't too bad - failed with 2 majors and a few minors. Had my first lesson today after a month and it was ok but it's still not quite consistent enough and up to test standard. My actual test is coming in 4 weeks time and my instructor is a little concerned and feels I may not be ready in time.
    This has knocked my confidence even further. I have waited a long time and felt I would definitely be ready by now. I'm just hoping I can be ready in these next few weeks. I had one one off lesson with an instructor after about 20 hours and he said I wasn't far from my test and that was back in June 2022! So I don't know if my current instructor is mugging me off a bit. He does take me on some difficult routes as well, like the one I had today.
    I'm an older male, almost 40 and with some breaks in between I don't know if that's affected my skills at all. Age wise it may be understandable but as a man, it's unacceptable to take this long.

    5:28 What an complete freaking tit, walking out on to the road like that, not as if it's a busy road, all he had to do was wait for it to be clear on both sides. Poor Erin, bad call there, should have worked around that tit, once Erin and Mr. Magoo were aware of each other it became safe to progress with caution, breaking like that, on a green light is to play with fire, thankful no collision , who needs that to start the year 🙏

    That horn blowing incident would have spilled my coffee to be honest. I would have stopped as well, even if I am from another country. A zombie like that person could potentially decide to step in front of your car. I would advise to never take chances to see if you could slip past. You have 1.5 tons underneath you, it can roll over anything living and inflict serious damage even at low speeds.
    The stop was sudden, a horn toot would be enough to keep me awake that I made a dangerous decision .. but considering the UK's road rules, if someone blares the horn that much, that car was way too close at that speed. So just .. do some self reflection.
    Lesson to take away; if you notice you are in an urban setting AND that pedestrians are about, consider being sharp, get ready to make decisions earlier - even if it annoys the one behind. Annoying but safe is okay, straight dangerous to everyone is not.
    (This is not an expectation towards someone with less than 10 hours behind the wheel, just my thoughts)

    I've had a couple of occasions where I started overtaking busses and they moved off just as I started overtaking them and they matched my speed instead of letting me overtake, leaving me in the middle the road. How would you handle such a situation?

    • @robinandned3151
      @robinandned3151 Год назад

      hold back if you can or you may have to stop in the road (if its safe to do so) A quick glance in the rear view mirror before stopping to allow other drivers time to stop.
      you could also beep to let the bus driver know you are there if you arent able to stop.

    Difficult decision but not sure if this was the right call as the person was quickly crossing at the traffic lights and had not Erin braked would have made contact, or a near miss, as he was distracted. This sadly is a regular occurrence, particularly in built up areas.
    The New Highway Code 8 (2022) although unclear favours the pedestrian when crossing. The car driving behind your vehicle should be at a safe distance to anticipate danger.
    I found a short RUclips clip from abroad. Would you prefer to stop?

    20:57 should have been an opportunity for erin to make use of the horn. that hazardous car was parked incorrectly and not even with hazard lights on, its clear that the person is just having a chat and causing obstruction. Aman should not have made erin drive around that, using the horn instead would have shown her that she has priority so the car should move & give her right of way, also would have increased her confidence as a learner on the road and shown that even with her lesser experience, she still does deserve respect from other drivers. poor teaching from the instructor at that point
