      scotland5finest i don't actually believe there's a "best" steak or pork sandwich. it depends on what neighborhood im in and what I want at the time. even though they're pretty much the same ingredients, there are differences from shop to shop. that being said, you cant go wrong w John's(in the vid) or dinics in the reading terminal.

    The best place to get a cheesesteak is from Maxx's at Broad and Erie second is Joe's also you can never go wrong with a Papi store so underrated and the best bang for the buck...the best roast pork DiNick's in Reeding Terminal hands down...I'm a philly native born and raised

      BrianTheGreat DiNic's uses broccoli rabe, John's uses the less bitter and juicier spinach. I like DiNic's, but John's is just the best.

      riffers I went to DiNic’s to give it a second shot after I wasn’t really impressed with the broccoli rabe in my roast pork sandwich, I must have been really sick the first time I ate there, or maybe it was the fact that they had spinach as their greens for the day, but man oh man did I love it the second time. John’s was definitely my favorite sandwich ever though.

      I love D'Allesandro's, but personally being born and raised in Northeast Philly, my all-time favorite is still Steve's at Comly and the Blvd. The way they pour melted American cheese over top your cheesesteak is just amazing - I'd eat it everyday if it didn't take 20 years off my lifespan.

      Mcdonalds beef and ingredients are frozen and trucked halfway around the country before its fried up and served to you by people who don't give shit about what they serve. Its in no way the same kind of thing to eating at one of these local joints.

    Pagano's in West Oak Lane is the best cheesesteak in Philly in my opinion. If I can't make it up that way, I hit the West Philly Jim's. The cheesesteak at John's Roast is pretty good too, but it comes "as is" and you can't choose your own condiments to add.

  • @frglaf4187
    @frglaf4187 7 лет назад +1

    I think this is a fairly well-composed video about the "mythical" cheesesteak. When you grow up in Philadelphia, you are somewhat surprised that everyone outside has awe and reverence for a sandwich you just take for granted. We got poor-quality cheesesteaks served to us in the school cafeteria that are better than what Subway makes.
    The central thesis of this video is 100% correct. Just go to any pizzeria or hoagie shop in the Delaware Valley and order a cheesesteak with American and fried onion. Most of the time the line cook will make it on a flat top with salt, pepper, and a dash of granulated garlic. The rolls are most often baked nearby. The steak and cheese are usually provided by Sysco, so don't think there's any "terroir" or something that makes them special. It's really just the knowledge passes from cook to cook about doing it right.

    Besides rustic, its really about how hungry you are and your expectations. If 2 sandwiches are made exactly the same measurements and ingredients but served in 2 different places you will percieve one to be better than the other if you didn't know. So despite traveling around the world just to eat food, it would be cheaper to just make it yourself. If you go to a place and the food is a side thing, thats great.

    Good stuff! BUT, you have to try the Chicago's Italian Beef! ;-)

      +T. Wolfe Different tastes, still GREAT. I've been to Chicago, I love the Italian beef. I'm so thankful just to be near a Portillo's here in the West Coast. Always asking for a Big Beef double dipped with hot peppers and sweet peppers x2 with cheese fries and an extra cheese cup for the sandwich. Not traditional, but shit it's all gravity to me.
