Scotty ur the man! I ABSOLUTELY MEAN THAT BROTHER! My friend is having trouble with his I believe he said it was a 2010 or2011 honda accordhe said it initially started overheating said he fixed that then he claimed that now it runs but he said it's sputtering and it back fires he changed the o2 sensors and others I believe? WHat could be wrong with it u think scotty? I'm thinking about buying the car from him
You're a genius. I'm a 64 year old woman. I wish I could do half of the stuff you tell me about. But, I have learned a lot, regardless. God bless you Scotty for helping so many people.
.."And if there's anything you can learn in life, and that's: an ounce of prevention is worth about a ton of cure" - the great Scooty Kilmer..
I learned all these things so many years ago, but I still enjoy tuning in to watch Scotty pass his knowledge along.
my tip is only use a 6 inch wrench on the drain plug to tighten it not the giant breaker bar so you don't overtighten it and strip the threads
Perhaps a good idea, but we all know how tight our favourite ratchet gets things. Some people are determined to get stuff TIGHT !
You actually show people the issues they have to take care of with a car other than just "gas and go" and explain how to do some of it that is why people watch your channel you tell the truth on it all no gimmicks and false advertising products you actually haven't had success with you tell people like it is cause nobody is buying you out for advertising so i like you "beat em up Scotty" and keep it up Scotty
If You have Vinyl Seats, don't put Tire Shine or Armor All on them either, You will be sliding around in the seat even with the seat belt on.
Found out the hard way 😂😂
1996 Saturn 4 dr. SL1 ; 28 years old ; 212,000 miles. Still runs fine.
1.9 litre engine was bulletproof.
Hey thank you for all the help over the years! I really appreciate you and your spunky personality!
Scotty Kilmer always bringing the best experience possible
I'm about to buy my first car. I'm learning so much watching these videos. I never had anyone to teach me about cars. I feel like I'll be going into car ownership with a headstart over people who have even been driving significantly longer than me when it comes to car maintenance. Thank you!
Not only do the tires dry rot if you don't use them, the gaskets in the engine dry and crack if you let uour car sit too much.
Thank you so much Scotty.
This is what I call real Value for FREE. I can't say thank you enough for sharing these critical and money saving info. 🙏🏾
String trimmer line (weed eater) works well when clearing drain holes.
If you end up in deeper water than you should, completely drain and replace your automatic transmission fluid.
Or, in general, if you buy something over 150k-200k miles.
If you have an old engine with some sort of vvt its fine to use a slightly thicker oil, specially if you live in hot weather, if your oilcap says 0w-20 use a you can use 5w-20 no problem at all, this is good not only for hot weather since thicker oil transfers heat better ut its also good if your engine is burning too much oil, thicker oil won't find it's way into the combustion chamber as easily.
You see 20 year old Toyota Camry/Corolla's and Honda Accord/Civic's still on the road today, but you rarely see a 20 year old Dodge Neon, Chevy Cavalier or Ford because they were not built as well and don't last as long as a Toyota or Honda
You also see suburbans and grand marquis from the 90s… I know ! I gave a 2002 suburban
Theres good and bad eggs in every manufacturer.
Depends on who designed it and who put it together. Angry black guys in detroit or the japanese who commit suicide at the drop of a hat😂
You see plenty of old f150 and panther platform cars today
@@maryatillo3764hell yeah they were built solid back then
Thank you. I always wondered how to check my shocks
The amount of friends and family members I have that never check their tires or oil is insane... Then they wonder why they break down on 30k miles😂
Totally agree.
I thought it was just my family & friends only.🤣👍
I advise and remind my friends and family to check their tyres and oil. That's why their cars keep running past
30 k miles. Amazing things happen when you talk to people.
This is why it can be so risky to buy a used vehicle.
Including my wife
Thank You Scotty for sharing your knowledge. Don't ever retire🙏👍
Thanks Scotty, I hope you’ll be around for a very long time 😊
some subtle comedy in upper right. well done.
Thank you so much friend … ☺️♥️
I learn SO MUCH from you 🙏fr 🇨🇦
Thank you Scotty !
Such valuable knowledge from enormous experience.
I love his whole presentation style. Voice, cadence, tone, body language, etc. Very engaging.
This info is worth the gold! My family never had a car and I just bought one. Thank you Scotty!
Love your videos Scotty!
I have a fix for sun roof leaks that works 💯% of the time: DON'T HAVE ONE.
@@DarkForce2024 The closest bus stop is over 5 miles from my home AND it does not run 24/7 nor does it run often. YOU FAIL.
@@donaldcarey114it’s a joke bro
@@donaldcarey114 He means don’t buy a car with a sunroof, bro.
@@russbell6418 If you care to read my ORIGINAL post you'll see that that's EXACTLY the meaning of what I said.
I’ve had a few cars with sunroofs and none of them have leaked. Idk. Maybe I’m just lucky.😮
Another great video with advice on prevention
They teach the same time in mechanic school but they don't entertain and keep your attent like you do. Your channel is awesome. Thanks for your videos.
Another great video Scotty.
Great advice 😊
I think you're very cool Scotty. Thank you for tips😊
I just wanted to thank you for showing all these great tips! There's so much to learn in this world. The learning never stops. Being a non-mechanic with a family. All kinds of things going on. It can be very confusing for the average person like myself.
Thanks, Scotty.
Back and forth movement on the front wheel could also be the control arms. Unfortunately, I just found out my Mustang has the wobble and needs a new lower control arm on one side. I'm just going to replace all of them, both upper and lower. There goes an afternoon... but it sure beats hundreds of dollars for mechanic's labor cost. The parts were less then $300 dollars. I can only imagine what a mechanic would have charged.
Brilliant Scotty love ur show 😊
a little pump-in-the-trunk shows a strapped AR-15
Thanks again Scotty!
Scottykilmer I really enjoy your content. You my friend are exactly what the people need when it comes to the basics and or tougher situations on vehicles when working on them. There's a few of us that are mechanically inclined and enjoy working on our cars but need that extra information that you provide to keep us from spending hundreds maybe even thousands at shop and some don't know the difference of a good mechanic versus a bad mechanic. Thank you sir
And change your cabin filters when you're supposed to
Thank you for your advice Scotty. You will be missed…
Thanks Scotty!

I'm doing it right now Scotty!! Pumping in my trunk 😂
Great Video.
Love ya Scotty.
Scotty Kilmer at his finest! Thank you for everything you do, Scotty.
Thanks for important tips for a sun roof. My current car is the first time having one, and I have been concerned about possible leaking. Had bad experiences with old "t top".
7:41 That was the highlight of my day, Thanks Scotty
I know the feeling. I need a few apprentices to continue the legend.
thanks legend 🤠
This was so helpful! I go to gas station and didn’t realize gauges wrong.
I CAN TRUELY SAY... I FOR ONE WILL DEEPLY MISS YOU. YOU'RE ONE SMART CRAZY GUY ❤❤
BEST OF LUCK..
ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT 😁
I go with what the oil cap says...but my FJ requires 0W-20. But I kinda think they just used that for better gas mileage stats?
I live up North so it makes sense in the winter, but I'm thinking of using something thicker in the summer.
5w-20 is ok, maybe even 5w-30 but i wouldn't go any higher, if the FJ has less then 120k then just stick with the 0w-20.
Thanks
Fantastic some vintage Scotty😁
14:30 sunroof fix thank you soo much 🔥🔥 hasn’t happened yet but now it’s never gonna thanks to Scotty !
Great advice Scotty, thanks from the UK firstbidmaywin
I used to change my own oil and filter years ago. Now it's harder because I don't have the correct tools. I also have changed the alternator, changed and guaged the spark plugs, changed the serpentine belt, the pully, the tensioner, hoses, tires, battery, radiator and radiator fluid, I make sure that I get the oil changed and other important preventative maintenance at a local garage.
Thanks Scotty your awesome brother Hallelujah
I got Megan coilovers on my 05 Honda CR-V what's your input on the that boss
I've always put 40psi. My car said 32 psi. Well, my tires are from 2021 brand new that yr. They still have tread, all 4. I even bought for trunk. I used car all the time. Summer I drop psi to 38. I do it before heat wave hits. Fall, put in psi. Vehicle has 218,000. I put 5/30 oil, every 5000 miles. And I have to, remind the scotty mechanic to put on a new washer. Of course he charges me $5.00. I'll bring my own.
Love you Scotty 🇵🇷 shout out to all the abuelos
I am a 58 year old man and I have done all these for years. Firstly, on my motorcycles then my cars. I leant from workshop manuals Clymer and here in the UK Haynes then JDM after I translated them from Japanese.
I am now turning all my literature into speech because I am losing my sight.
I have drummed this advice into all my family and friends then they have come back to me telling me I was correct after their motorcycles and cars went bang!
They must think I am some crackpot because I know everything I talk about and they don't believe me because I have no educational qualifications.
I know people with degrees that are constructively inept! They have no sense because they believe the academics instead of people like me!
My vehicles are as old as me and well maintained.
Scotty is genius and one of the most helpful and knowledgeable people I know on this planet.
Shock absorbers are used to convert motion energy into heat energy for vibration damping.
Thank you. I want to shake your hand, sir.
Messed this one up Scotty. You said the tires absorb a lot of the shock, so if your shocks are bad, your tires are going to absorb more of the shock. The tread is what wears out. Most tires these days aren't going to wear out from flexing, unless you drive on really rough roads all the time.
I only change my oil drain plug gasket every couple of oil changes or when it shows signs of obvious wear. Also, I do mine right when I get home from my 40 mile commute but I wear old sugaring gloves when I do it!
thank you
Problem I had a leaky sunroof used plastic bags to plug the whole easy fix use anything to clog the crevices
"...before i re-tire"
good one Scotty 😄
Scotty I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Le 115k are those good running vehicles for long term ?
Did you see the video of the that brought a China Electric Supercar? Turned out to be about the same size of a golf cart.
Scotty are those the hub caps from auto zone on your Celica
Also if possible pre fill the new oil filter with new oil
Added to my Cars Playlist
Also need to be checking the timing belt regularly if it is a belt. That cost me an otherwise really good car.
Classic timeless forever true saying Scotty ! Ounce of prevention worth a pound or as Scotty said ton of cure !!!!!
If only tires could last as long as Scotty! 😊🚗
Great tips for an old guy who likes to take care of his Taco. Thanks….
I have learned a lot watching scotty Kilmer
Can compressed air also detach the drain tubes from the window frame?
What’s a good but cheap air compressor to buy?
Hey Scotty thanks for the great advice now I'm thinking about getting a used car how about putting your floor jack in your truck or trunk and come help me find a good one 😂 anyway thanks for the advice
Also with regard to tyres. Do not park on grass for extended periods. They will dry rot and crack in no time at all.
Lmaoff. Scotty must be the only guy I've ever seen use a BF breaker rod to put in an oil plug! Who the hell knows why? Finger tight plus 1/8 turn and I've never lost a plug!
he's a 70 year old man duh he's gonna use a breaker bar
WHO do you think you're kiddin' Scotty. You will NEVER retire dude...
Never retire!!!!! You are way too valuable!!!!
Just do a few a week lol
Good info 👍
Don' t retire just do a few less. Too many people, including me, will miss you.
Where did you get that tire gauge?
great!
My Honda crv 2006 lx burns oil every 1000 miles and I put a quart of oil can I use an oil treatment to reduce the oil burning consumption.?
On my brother's 2006 Ford Ranger the shop says use 5w20. The Haynes Manuel says use 10w30. With 5w20 it burns a lot of oil. With 10w30 it burns much less oil.
In the owners manual for my 94 tbird 5w30. In the Ford service manual 1030 and the Haynes 10w30 down to -18°C.
Burning 1L/500km with 5w30, 1L/12000km with 10w30.
5w20 specified for 2011.
Wow! I have that exact same tire pressure gauge! What are the odds?
Excellent advice 👍
Uncle Scotty right here dishing out more tips than your dad on Sunday night at local stripclub , maaaaaaan!!! 😂 amazing stuff, sir, hope you will not retire anytime soon)))
This guy has been doing this for many years on youtube. Im surprised they never booked this guy for a movie character or something
1. tires 0:00
2. engine oil 6:26
3. drain holes 12:18
Don't retire from RUclips at least, keep us inform with your great techniques!! 🙂
My Passat sunroof back drained down A pillar into passenger floorboard filling up with 2 inches of water! Took days to dry carpet and padding Now I clean drain tube with a piece of weed eater string.
He really gave us over 20 minutes of free game in this very informative video
