I was really impressed with how the oil additive worked. But I used the gas treatment twice and my gas mileage has gotten worse each time. Also a loss of power on 2007 4Runner. Could the spark plugs have been effected? Do you have any idea what to look at?
Dad never respected the temperature gauge in his then new Jaguar XJ6 Series 3. Lucas Electrical systems (when working) needed fire extinguishers & be home before dark!
Had this problem, bought the 505 product, drove on highway at high speed for 1 hr. My car hasn't stalled since, and it runs smoother too. 1995 Toyota. Thanks, Scotty!
I did the same once. Then I thought about the danger and the speeding tickets and drove in 2nd gear on local roads... result: the same but safer and cheaper.
That's insane to me. I can go in my menu on the dash and check all kinds of data for the engine, transmission and battery without even using a scan tool. That should be required on vehicles IMO. Driving around having no idea how warm your engine is is a bad idea.
There is a blue icon when the engine is cold that goes out once the engine has reached operating temp. Not sure what it does if the engine overheats. Otherwise there is nothing to tells you the engine temp, and nothing at all about oil.
I posted this before. I used this on my 250k car....Day two it broke some carb loose and took out af fuel injector. Yes...the stuff work! Car is a 2004 so was not hurt about the injector just replaced all 6 just took me a while to figure it and and to do it. Yes, great stuff!!!
Good video Scotty! You should do an episode specifically tailored to how to read the OBD info from a scanner to figure out what's going on with it. Lot's of people don't know how to make heads or tails out of basic OBD data.

I bought a car from a friend who had problems with the car, he had it back at the dealer several times but they couldn't fix it so they gave him a great deal on another car. The car was only a couple of years old and had low miles, almost all highway miles. I only paid a few hundred bucks for it. The dealer first replaced the computer, distributer and eventually the top end but it spit sputtered and died sometimes, especially when you were in a hurry. I went to pick it up with a friend as I was driving it home, I had the hood up and asked my friend to start it, when he did I noticed the distributer turned, I let it idle, grabbed a ten mm wrench and tightened it down, never had another issue with the car, tires, air filters and oil change was the only thing I did too it for the next four or five years, finally sold it when the CV joints started making noise, for a huge profit. Right time, right place I guess.
That's awesome man, glad you spotted the issue. I'll betcha the dealer did to but they were betting on you taking that other car and wrapping you into some more payments. Good deal man I wojlda kept it still haha
Let us know if u used the ATS and if it resolved the issue. I am debating as its patent pending so what is it really and how strong can they make it. Almost seems they start off super diluted then gradually change the concentrate as inflation goes up.
@@onlyme8870 Kilmer's video sort of convinced me that my problem was dirty fuel injectors. However, I decided to try Royal Purple Fuel treatment, and I have definitely noticed that the hesitation when the car is cold is gone. There should be laws against manufacturers limiting motorists from knowing the temperature of their engine. Absolutely malicious intentions have to be at play here.
I know a lot of people use Sea Foam but it doesn't really do anything for the fuel system. I've found it's really good to use in the crankcase to clean out any oil sludge or residue especially in lawn mower engines.
Hey Scotty, I added the fuel system cleaner and it caused the bottom of the sock on my fuel pump to be clogged on the bottom resulting in extreme rough idling and no power when fuel level drops below about an eighth of a tank. Filter did its job but the cleaner caused this problem. I pulled the gas tank and replaced the entire fuel pump that came with a new filter sock and it fixed the problem when fuel got low.
The cleaner did not cause the problem. The cleaner dislodged the crap that was in the system and that crap caused the problem as it was flushing. That means the cleaner was doing its job.
My 13 and 17 had the temp readout on the little screen on the dash, so you could see it if you wanted. Pretty sure my wife's Lagacy did too at least the last one.
I had my doubts about 505 CRF. I'd added techron to my gas as a maintenance item at each oil change. Recently I bought a 2008 Lexus RX350 ... still young at 179,000 miles. I added 505 CRF recently and noticed a 2-4 mpg increase ... not stunning, but a welcome increase in feul economy.
@scottykilmer - In newer Subarus, the centre-top display has a configurable "favourites" screen where you can put both water and oil temperature gauges. The water one is just basic - Cold/Normal/Hot, the oil one is exact. Problem with that though is it's only useful if you have that particular gauge display up. There are only two mechanical gauges left in mine - speedo and tach, everything else is digital and on a screen. Would be nice if that had an option for exact water temperature always up on the gauge screen somewhere.
@@OwO---Drunk_Seulgi---OwO that's just a strange reply. I'll get back with you when I figure out what you're saying...bro. Are you my bro or an imposter?
Im a believer in enertech labs gasrx product. That lab was hired to take a massive anount of rotten turned fuel (in a monster tank) into burnable fuel. It breaks down water from parts per thousand to parts per million. Stabil, startron and all the others are meant to make fuel last longer. Gasrx makes old ethanol gas burn again. Castrol has (had) a product named route 66 (if i remember right) that did the same thing. Gas-rx was suing them for steeling there formula (last i knew). There in Buffalo Ny, i buy it at Fastenal and marinas usually have it. Or from the lab themselves. No o dont work for them or get any compensation by recommending them. Ive had a small engine shop for 14 years and dealt with bad gas the whole time. Ive had 25 ft boats with full twin gas tanks and the stuff really works.
High Scotty love your vids, I'm having a problem with 2004 Honda Pilot it is high miles 300K but runs out great and trans works good when it shifts most of the time, but some times I put it in drive and it's like neutral I drop into L1 or L2 and it will take off and i shift it manually it goes good but drive it around some and the next stop I make it's like it falls out of gear repeat the manual shift and its fine, I have replaced the dual trans solenoid four time from Ebay parts it would work for a short time wk or two and go back to the same problem so I was told only OEM new from Honda would work so I shelled out the $600.00 it lasted about a month and now same old deal, now I do have a code that comes on again sporadic that is VTM-4, and eng ck symbol but the don't stay on I replaced the sending unit for that didn't change anything. But I or my wife still drive it daily it is a good little car would love to save it .Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I know my car does that when I get to close to needing an oil change. It will run rough and they replaced the sensor but did not do an oil change so the issue came back. I told them I thought it needed an oil change but they did not listen so I have not been back since.
Ahhh. The wonderful Subies. I once had a Forrester and tbh, it was quite reliable. I once had an issue with reprogramming the radio that involved a series of hoops I had to jump thru to get it right. Bernies? I will have to give it a try on my (6) Honda Elements. Older AND wiser. Happy travels guys!
I have heard that when a transmission acts up only when it is put in reverse that its a sign that the filter is clogged and replacing the filter will often solve the problem ?
Scott your videos are awesome scotty have a 2011 dodge caravan v6 will shutoff may be 2 or 3 months cannot find what the problem is give it 20 minutes starts right up good for months must be at least 20 minutes thank you
I had similar problem found out my girl was running e85 in it and filling it up every couple of weeks e85 goes bad in days stopped using it never had problem again.
I have a 2004 Mitsubishi, and I had a similar problem with stalling randomly at lights or first starts. I tried additives and even had new coils installed on account of oil leaking from the rocker cover. Still stalled after that. So, I turned off the stereo. Stalling stopped! I had a new head unit fitted when I bought the car, fitted by an auto electrician. So I can only guess maybe it's drawing on the battery or the speakers don't match with it. Has anyone heard of this before?
I've been using Seafoam since 2000 after every oil change. Mechanics at the time always said it was the best product to clean injectors etc, and having gone through 3 cars since, I'm happy with the product and still use it today
I had a 2014 5th gen Outback. Drove it for 7 years until I got T-boned by someone speeding and I couldn't clear a gap in time. The 09-12 models aren't as good as the 13-14 year revision models. They have toyota parts on them (injectors, radio harness lol, 31mm size interior dome light bulbs are the same like Toyota models. But the cvt started to slip after 100k miles. You should change the cvt fluid after 50,000 miles. They tell you it is a "lifetime" fluid, but conditions change when you live in a hot and humid place.
Agree: that mileage estimator should have been a temp gauge. I suppose an electronics tech could repurpose that with a sensor and an amp to match sweep range requirements. Put a dummy load on the computer or module output so the program stays happy and Bob's your uncle.
I miss the oil pressure sensors and temperature sensors with numbers. Particularly on my Subaru, which sucks oil an oil pressure sensor I really need! I wish my Subaru had plugs that didn't require taking apart 1/2 of the engine to get to the plugs. I have changed cam timing belts, that were actually easier!
A better park plug can help. My Del Sol came with a cheap NGK plug. I found the right plug in a Bosch 4-prong plug platinum. The car run better and starts right now. Make sure the Bosch plug is the right one for your car. I hae run these plugs since the car had 40,000 miles. The car has almost 221,000 miles. But some car carbon treatment is a good thing too.
Hi, I have that particular car (although not the pheV) and Idle is high, around 1500 RPM when cold... Then comes back to normal when warm. Also, fuel consumption gauge tells me it's consuming lots of gasoline everytime it's not moving. Seems like a bad sensor? No check engine signal.. thanks for the help and very informative videos!! :)
Change the air filter and you could drive it at high way speed for about a half an hour or forty five minutes to get the engine hot enough to burn off the carbon
Hi Scotty, thank you for all your sage advice. Have you encountered any downsides or problems with using the ATS fuel and engine oil treatments? Are there circumstances when they should be avoided?
This is the same guy that has said plenty of times in his videos that fuel additives are a waste of money , but for some reason this overpriced ATS is good stuff🤷 i just go to shell and fill it up with some good gas same shiet
@@Argedis if you maintain your car regularly and keep it up to date you wouldn't have to use additives plain and simple in my 35 years of owning cars Toyotas/Hondas i never used additives because my cars were all up to date.. this Subaru problem is going to come back i can bet on that it might be a few days or longer but thats not a fix🤷 people that do this don't take care of their cars or buy cars that were not taken care of..
@@FriedGreenCarrots Scotty also mentions using top tier grade fuel you won't need to use fuel system cleaners. If you buy a used car and the previous owners used cheap gas using a fuel cleaner won't hurt
@@Argedis i guess if it helps you sleep better but all that is just a waste of money especially $60 for 2 bottles hurts the pockets, just do it right the first time i was taught

King Scotty, you are a great human being, stay well, God Bless You !
Thanks.
I know a lot of people use Sea Foam but it doesn't really do anything for the fuel system. I've found it's really good to use in the crankcase to clean out any oil sludge or residue especially in lawn mower engines.
True. ✅
Um fuel system cleaner dodnt puttrash in your fuel tank😂😂😂
The cleaner did not cause the problem. The cleaner dislodged the crap that was in the system and that crap caused the problem as it was flushing. That means the cleaner was doing its job.
My 13 and 17 had the temp readout on the little screen on the dash, so you could see it if you wanted. Pretty sure my wife's Lagacy did too at least the last one.
I agree with you about the temp gauge!
U are extremely great thumbs up sir for all your service we appreciate you sir
I had my doubts about 505 CRF. I'd added techron to my gas as a maintenance item at each oil change. Recently I bought a 2008 Lexus RX350 ... still young at 179,000 miles. I added 505 CRF recently and noticed a 2-4 mpg increase ... not stunning, but a welcome increase in feul economy.
I always use Tier 1 gas. Fuel system cleaner a few times a year. And check and change the air filter!
That is true l,,, Subaru should put back the temperature gauges
I can definitely vouch for Bernie's products.
I tried them on Scotty's recommendation and continue to buy them because they actually really work.
My '21 Legacy has a temperature gauge! It also shows my oil temperature on the infotainment screen at the top.
As my 2015 Legacy
As does my '14 Forester and my '24 Outback.
Thank you Scotty... god bless you always.
Subaru Lancaster 2002 got car free was stalling out used Nulon fuel system cleaner .
Worked well cheaper than a mechanic .
My friend has a 2013 Mazda 3 with a 2.0L Skyactiv engine. Great little car but drives me crazy that it also doesn't have a temperature gauge.
@@OwO---Drunk_Seulgi---OwO that's just a strange reply. I'll get back with you when I figure out what you're saying...bro. Are you my bro or an imposter?
@@Michael-se2ii sober up lady
Thanks for telling Subaru Scotty.
Scotty for President...
I wish they shipped this additive to Australia. I use gumout instead and it seems to do the job.
Try seafoam in the tank. It really works
I couldn't find the ATS fuel system cleaner you're showing. I did find the 505 version though the price is $54 for 16 OZ. It better work!
I want a follow-up on this car in one month and six months.
Looks like they might be low on brake fluid, I noticed when you hard braked the Brake Light came on. Thanks for all your valuable videos!
i used 505 in my Ford E250 at 124k. i swear it has more power and idles smoother.
I've been using Seafoam since 2000 after every oil change. Mechanics at the time always said it was the best product to clean injectors etc, and having gone through 3 cars since, I'm happy with the product and still use it today
Another Great Video Scotty. Don, California. 1-29-2024.
Thanks Scotty for all these videos and your hard work!
Awesome job and thanks Scotty
You too MAZDA. My CX-5 doesn't have temp gage either
I miss the oil pressure sensors and temperature sensors with numbers. Particularly on my Subaru, which sucks oil an oil pressure sensor I really need! I wish my Subaru had plugs that didn't require taking apart 1/2 of the engine to get to the plugs. I have changed cam timing belts, that were actually easier!
should have a temp gauge if any car does... let you know when the head gaskets are leakin or heads start cracking lol
Ngk? They make the oem plugs for your honda.... not cheap
Italian tune up is needed every now and then.
That's actually normal in cold, but rpms should go down after a minute or two.
Tap the gas pedal and rpms will go down if you dont feel like waiting.
Every time I see your videos I seem to learn something. It might be miniscule, but for me it's always good
Temperature and rpm gages are essential to me.
Scotty is awesome. I tell everyone about him
Best mechanic in the world
Not a chance in hell. lol
Are there circumstances when they should be avoided?
vibrating in reverse.
jack each wheel, turn it backwards.
could be a brake issue.
stuck caliper/drum piston.
Hey Scotty, good to see ya!
Be nice if you didn't have to buy 12 at a time or oil additive every time you buy a fuel additive. This works fantastic !
This is the same guy that has said plenty of times in his videos that fuel additives are a waste of money , but for some reason this overpriced ATS is good stuff🤷 i just go to shell and fill it up with some good gas same shiet
@@FriedGreenCarrots Scotty mentions that Octane boosters are a waste of money, not fuel system cleaners
I use Royal Purple Clean Fuel System Cleaner & Stabilizer in both my 2012 VW Tiguan and my 2006 Chrysler 300C. Afterwards, I find ttat taking the vehicle on a run with high rpms blows out whatever gums uo the system.
