@@Michael-yi4mclol so THATs why. ironically I got in trouble when I was a little kid with my mom’s new Chevy nova… I figured out the leather would leave little temporary marks if you put you face on the head rests ( pretty sure it was pleather ) anyway… I got the bright idea of putting my mouth on it to try and see how it would respond to teeth… from that moment on, my mom’s brand new car had a perfect and permanent impression of my 6 top front teeth on the headrest. I had a 2012 Crosstour EX V6 fwd. Bought it new for $26K (with a $6K discount) and had 0% rate loan... Only had one issue at 70K, the VTEC sensor went bad. Cost me less than $200 to get it fix at the dealer. I averaged 24.2mpg at the pump throughout the 89K miles I kept it. Most ugliest car I ever had, but super practical, inexpensive and reliable!
@@jawwaadwilson592, it has 375,000 miles on it. I’ve had it since 1996 when I was 16. It was my moms car she handed down to me for my first car. I live in Arizona and it has never gotten road salt on it. Also I’ve taken good care of it and did all necessary maintenance to keep it running.
When I bought my CH-R(when they first came out), right before every dealer got inventory. For some reason my local dealer had 2 and no other dealer around me had them. I was on the fence about other cars in that price point (all cvt) and then saw the CHR in the show room and pulled the trigger with Toyota as their reliability was good (which eased the worry with cvt). 4 years later I gave the CHR to my brother for his university journey. The chr made it across country many times with 0 issues till this day
You would love my 2008 Nissan frontier 4x4 3.0 diesel it was made in Japan also. Not available in the states. Bought in Costa Rica and it's been a great truck. Basic Betty, no airbags, no ABS brakes , cloth seats and crank down windows. Just getting her broke in with 100 thousand miles and ready for more. Just did some work and replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator, clutch and back brakes also had the turbo rebuilt due to a bad gasket. it sucked in oil and had to be rebuilt. I added a catch can for any future issues it's crom and matches the new aluminum radiator. PURA VIDA 🌴
In 2021 I was looking for a low mileage vehicle. I ended up buying a 2018 Ridgeline with 30,000 mi. No regrets , love it but the crosstour was a close second. I still think they are an awesome vehicle.
A week ago I bought a 2014 Prius with 170k miles, newer tires and brakes, new 12v battery, hybrid battery health of 75%, interior is extremely clean, pain and body look great. Only cost me $1,000 from a family member.
Love Scotty & having wrenched on used cars all my life... he's 98% right. I don't really care though how a car looks. My priorities: 1 It doesn't break - 2 It doesn't break - 3 It doesn't break - 4 it gets decent mileage & passes smog - 5 Its reasonably comfortable, quiet.
I bought a scion Tc brand new in 2012. I honestly think this vehicle is most like Scotty’s Celica. When I was young I wanted the Toyota Celica and when Toyota came out with the tc2 , I could see the inspiration from the Celica and I just had to have it. Cost me $30,000 total after the maintenance package and tax & interest- car was 21k at the time. It still runs like a top all I did was replace oil when I needed to. I did a lot at 120k miles tho to restore some of that life but I only spent about 5k and it’s like a brand new car again. Love this machine and sad they aren’t making them any more :’(
The CH-R is stylish, nice and reliable. Nice seats and shifter. It has the odd placement rear door outside handle like the previous Honda HR-V, but I plan to get a new HR-V Sport. It suits me better
I have a 2010 Kia Rio - 205,000 miles , doesn’t burn oil , starts right up , runs like a top . Only Kia I’ve ever had - based on this one , I can’t put them down . 5 speed manual - it’s pretty zippy too .
Toyota is good at what they do. Once you drive one for any length of time, you will not be happy with anything else. I used to drive a Ford, and Ford Motor company is crazy if they think that competes with a Toyota. Hot summer days where the AC does not work and the tranny slips? I think not. GM and Chrystler just as bad, if not worse.
Wife and I both have Kia souls made in Korea both have over 30k miles now and we have had not one issue. I've been a mechanic for 30 years never thought I would own a kia let alone 2 of them . Glad I gave kia a chance. I still would rather have a Toyota but they are both work cars and get us around just fine with plenty of power.
Scotty, you are the only person who can fix America. Run for president and you have my vote. Here is the slogan: "Only Scotty can fix America, Scotty for president"
Now they make a smaller Rave calling it a Corolla Cross. So popular since they came out,I never was able to even sit in one. My Rav4 Hybrid was purchased primarily because the AWD comes standard with the hybrid. Then there is the lifetime fuel mileage of 42.0 so far at 46000 miles, up from 37.5 when new. Just oil and filters so far.
That C-HR is very cool! Definitely a higher price range than what I was considering (Toyota Venza) for nice comfy space to sleep in and good mileage as a daily driver!
I originally wanted to get the Toyota chr but people said their transmission has been dying around 80k miles due to the cvt being under power. Decided to go for the new hrv
Currently 126k miles owned since 2018, no issues that are from the vehicles normal wear and tear. Definitely doable for a small family, but if your looking up to buy and vehicle for more kids definitely will need more room.
Scotty is right about the power of the Matrix. Back in the day the Mazda RX3 and Mazda RX2 12A rotary engines put out 130hp, & that was when they were running properly and didn't have fouled spark plugs😂
Can you do an episode on why low mileage (under 30k miles) Honda Odyssey’s lose all their power and leave people stranded? With perfect batteries. Or why they occasionally open their sliding doors while driving down the hiway (so someone can fall out)? These are documented issues Honda ignores (see the Honda owners forum online). Curious why one the most dangerous vehicles is considered to be so great.
Love your videos Scotty, The c-hr was originally intended a Scion in the US market before the brand was discontinued. I bought one 5/18, vin starts with a j but assembled in Turkey?? Mine is green with a white top. In 65000 miles since then no cost issues at all, one factory recall for a lane departure sensor that's it, with a CVT surface Street mileage about 36, expressway, about 29. Excellent choice for the money I couldn't agree more. In other markets the c-hr has a hybrid version as well, since the platform is shared with the Prius and Camry platforms.
Ive got that 2003 honda hatch si……… I love this little car!!! It’s quick and i can drive it on a sidewalk, no problem!! Next to perfect, 62k. Got it for 3,600. Look for one if you like hatches!!!
you can if you live where there's no people around like Tennessee. It's just supply and demand (and a little inflation, but inflation doesnt account for the total massive up-tick in price).
For my money, I will stick with my 2006 Scion Xb . only cost a couple grand and runs like a champ with 194 thousand miles on it. 😁 probably doesn't hurt that I have only put on about 10 thousand miles in 4 years.lol😁
I like the timing belt on my 4.7 V8 land cruiser. It's very quiet Engine for something with 280,000 miles on it. I noticed the timing chain V8s are noisier on some models.
Always check warranties when looking at vehicles. I swear I got a good deal on a used Highlander because the dealer didn't know there was a warranty on the paint. It was missing large areas on the roof. They ended up painting it for free later.
My Nissan sentra was a 2005 and I got it at 199k. It made it to 230k before serious problems. Crankshaft. After 250k brake pad. Then 260k alternator. Then 270k wheel bearing and lower control, by 300k radiator busted, spark plugs, and 330k transmission and 340k fuel pump before trans goes out. But it was a good car. Doordash killed it.
Before the CH-R, before the Matrix..was the FX16 GTS. It was only imported to the U.S. for two years. Mine was an '87. Its was a Corolla hatchback featuring a 1.6 Twin Cam 16 valve with T-VIS. Toyota Variable Induction System. Tiny motor, 113 HP but a blast to drive. This is the same engine used in the original Corolla AE86. The FX was a hatchback so during the week I would work out of it doing remodeling. Weekends were for racing. It would sprint out ahead of many cars off the line but lacked the pull in a quarter mile. Boring cars? I don't think so. Sadly somewhere along the way Toyota lost their way. Glad to see they've come back.
I have a 2018 C-HR. Bought it used with 28,000 miles, 1 owner. Transmission went out at 68,000 miles. Glad a had a warranty to cover the 9 gran it cost to replace. Toyora stopped making them. Will resume in 2025. I wonder why...
I love Toyota I've had several. I lost a car. I went to a buy here pay here lot. Got a 2003 Toyota put little money in it. Keep up maintenance. Great car still running. Had it 9 years. Can't give it up.😊
I had a 2003 2.7 litre v6 tiburon manual with 175000 miles. Ran flawless. I only got rid of it because I had the cash to buy a brand new 2013 tdi golf manual. That car simply outclassed every gas powered car I've ever been in. Too bad vw couldn't be honest about the pollution stuff. Diesel gate killed the best cars ever sold in USA.
My Kia Sorrento literally had two different door handles fall off. Paint peeling, steering wheel wearing away, total engine replacement (thankfully covered by a recall). Total POS
On the Toyota CHR, you are wrong. In other countries it is sold with a launch gear, in the USA it is sold with the unique k114 transmission. This transmission is actually very prone to bearing failure that can cost almost 10k for a full replacement. This usually happens before 100k miles. You don’t see many of them because they are practically totaled once that cvt fails
I actually prefer timing belts, I can change it in the driveway almost as easily as an alternator belt, timing chains are really a pain to get to and can take as long as 17 hours in labor to change a chain guide (Nizzan 350z VQ)
My kia forte has 260k on it! I have replaced the alternator and ignition coil. Took it on a 4000k mile drive last month! My family thought I was crazy 🤣
Make sure to use Android 11 or newer. Critical vulnerability in Bluetooth can compromise the device. All Android 10 and older. Since you mentioned Scottie you like Android. If someone wanted to target devices they could make a custom antenna to reach over a km.
I think Scotty is the first RUclipsr ever to NOT criticize how claustrophobic the backseat is in the C-HR. Personally I don't care about the backseat in these type of cars, as they are not intend to be family friendly in the first place.
@0:12 Scotty shows the base trim without even tinted windows. The Corolla S from that era is one of the cooler looking cars from the last few decades. It's sharper looking than almost any other vehicle in the same price range. Nice sales pitch, but total nonsense. Put a Red Corolla S next to it and tell me again how this thing looks better 😄
My old Prius did about 48,000 mi in a year! If I hadn't had that car. I wouldn't have taken home much of a paycheck! It was phenomenal. I was getting about 380 miles to the tank! When everyone else was looking at $5.25 a gallon. All I ever had to do was brakes. Another set of tires a basic battery and oil changes. Very reliable very cheap car to operate and I owned a Prius when everyone thought it was so cool. It was almost like a status symbol 2007 and that was a trip for me. I don't own cars because they're cool or because you can get some sort of status off of it. I've always found that to be incredibly stupid and I think it also shows that someone has incredibly low self-esteem. If they feel like there are more important person for driving a certain kind of car. It's a declining asset that's not even really an asset when you think about it. The minute you buy a car and drive it off the lot there goes 20%!!!! So why on Earth would you look at it as though it's a status symbol? It's a means to an end for me to get from point A to point B. Even more importantly, I want to be safe!
CVT Transmisson is redundant...constant velocity transmission transmission. ATM machine....automatic teller machine machine. VIN number...vehicle indentification number number. etc. etc.
I'll take the regular transmission. If you need a regular gear to launch, then the transmission doesn't have enough torque for the vehicle, period. Don't care how long you spent at Cal state San Luiz Obispo. Just wait for Trump in November to fix things then you can get the Tacoma. That X-tool is really cool, I've been looking for a scan tool that actually has functionality besides code reading, that doesnt cost 1000 bucks so that's great, glad I didn't get the Blue Driver lol

Cool looking but I'll stick with my Ford c-max Hybrid for now...gets 45 mph and when gas prices soar is a blessing to have
Scotty is right about the power of the Matrix.
You can't buy any vehicle anymore for dirt cheap that runs well.
go to an old nice neighborhood and just ask around
you can if you live where there's no people around like Tennessee.
I've heard the chr's had a lot of problems, like catastrophic engine failure for one...
i may have said this before, but in case i haven't: Thanks For What You Do Sir Kilmer!
🙏🦉
All the C-HR's I see on cartrader have a VIN starting with NM (Turkey).
The CHR has had transmission problems. It's a no-go for CVTs
😂 I love seeing you talk about Honda and Toyota. I agree with you 💯.
Always check warranties when looking at vehicles. I swear I got a good deal on a used Highlander because the dealer didn't know there was a warranty on the paint. It was missing large areas on the roof. They ended up painting it for free later.
The Toyota C-HR for some reason had the lowest score in consumer satisfaction.
Hey Scotty, I make parts for the Toyota Tundra right here in Oakridge TN!! Youd be in heaven here!!😂
I love Toyota I've had several. I lost a car. I went to a buy here pay here lot. Got a 2003 Toyota put little money in it. Keep up maintenance. Great car still running. Had it 9 years. Can't give it up.😊
That’s awesome given the rep for buy here pay here! I’m thinking of doing the same!
"this car will outlast him". that crack me up scotty!
I think Kia and Hyundai usually can make about 80,000 miles and that's about it!
Same with Nissan cvt’s
I had a 2003 2.7 litre v6 tiburon manual with 175000 miles. Ran flawless. I only got rid of it because I had the cash to buy a brand new 2013 tdi golf manual. That car simply outclassed every gas powered car I've ever been in. Too bad vw couldn't be honest about the pollution stuff. Diesel gate killed the best cars ever sold in USA.
That's only with the Theta II and Nu engines.
My Kia Sorrento literally had two different door handles fall off. Paint peeling, steering wheel wearing away, total engine replacement (thankfully covered by a recall). Total POS
I have a corolla 2001 1.4 vvti which i run everyday for work, here in europe engines are a lot smaller then USA, only use G98 on it.
Toyota mr2 spyder was other choice besides my 68 Impala.Being a fan of tv series Supernatural i chose 68 Impala
My kia forte has 260k on it! I have replaced the alternator and ignition coil. Took it on a 4000k mile drive last month! My family thought I was crazy 🤣
Toyota Chr been around me for a lot of years Toyota's answer to the Nissan Juke which became the Kicks
The Toyota Matrix became a Toyota Correct iM
Corolla iM
@@swillywilly3183 I’d like to have one of those IM’s with a 6-spd manual! 😃👍🏼
Make sure to use Android 11 or newer. Critical vulnerability in Bluetooth can compromise the device. All Android 10 and older. Since you mentioned Scottie you like Android.
If someone wanted to target devices they could make a custom antenna to reach over a km.
It's just a pleasure to watch your videos and hear your laugh Kind Scotty, thanks for them man, Long Life to you !
The Crosstour has always got my attention, very sharp
I have had my CHR limited since 2019. I love this freakin car. Put it in sports mode next time Scotty. Feels like it's got A turbo in it.
I think Scotty is the first RUclipsr ever to NOT criticize how claustrophobic the backseat is in the C-HR. Personally I don't care about the backseat in these type of cars, as they are not intend to be family friendly in the first place.
Canadian Chr are made in Turkey
Pull the back seat out. Don't need it. Need the cargo space.
That CHR is a very sharp vehicle
Nobody makes em like they used too...
Just had a conversation with an older guy at O'Reilly's last night bout this...
I got a CH R. 2021 I about a year ago with 15.000 miles no problem with it yet
toyota supra, jaguar f-type r, jaguar f pace svr, bmw x3 m40i, genesis g70, audi tt rs
Please find a 1987 Yugo and go on a cross-country road-trip. Pretty please.
Love you Scotty but had a friend get one of these cvt died in less than two years,
i dislike the infortainment sticking up. that's why I got rid of my highlander after 3 year lease.
CHR are awesome but discontinued. I expect some parts might become expensive/hard to find therefore expensive to work on?
My 2016 kai forte 2 litter is at 100k and runs great. The ac went out, but its not a big deal to me
I've never seen a cheap second hand Toyota usually twice the price of a BMW or Mercedes where I live😂
I heard that you have to disable the speed limit beeps every time you start the car. If that's true, I'll steer clear of that CHR.
CVT Transmisson is redundant...constant velocity transmission transmission.
ATM machine....automatic teller machine machine.
VIN number...vehicle indentification number number.
etc. etc.
CVT - Continuos Variable Transmission smarty pants, first go and learn and then post on YT 😂😂😂
Crosstour 6:24 🎉
Keep um coming, great as always!
Beck Arnley is good quality aftermarket part.
