I have a Gentleman with a black face because I can't afford a Rolex Explorer! I also have the quartz version of the PRX, blue sundial and leather strap and always get compliments on it. I like the PRX so much I bought the chronograph white panda. I'm a big fan of Tissot. I believe you get a lot watch for the money.
I have the exact same colour and love it! It’s my first choice when going out to places where I don’t to wear my more expensive Tudor. With its partly polished parts, it strikes the perfect balance of being flashy, but not looking over the top or cheap. Especially in restaurants, bars etc with limited lighting, the polished parts and angled shiny indices work great. Also the half-links allow for good adjustment and sizing (17 cm wrist), and I never had issues with the push pins either. No quick adjustment on the bracelet though, but I guess you can’t tick all the boxes at this price point. Omega doesn’t offer this at 6 x the price either.
I think Tissot do great things in that space - for the enthusiast that might have some pricey pieces at home and you don't necessarily always want to wear them. But also for people that have a limit that's lower and they still want something that'll last a lifetime. They definitely don't look cheap (and they aren't, to be fair ha), but can actually look like they cost an awful lot more! Wear in good health, mate!
Bought one recently and I adore this watch. The green dial is a little understated and doesn't scream at you, which on this model is a plus....makes it look a little more elegant. I thought that the polished center links would look awful, but not so. However I purchased a really nice quality green leather strap with a very similar hue of green to the dial, completely changes the look (NO, you can't have too much green!) I have a number of watches from the Swatch group of companies with the P80 movement. ALL run within COSC, so it is pointless paying more a penny more for a 'chronometer' grade movement. Tissot, in particular, offers outstanding value for money across their entire range (even some of their nicer quartz powered timepieces). I recently tried the PRX 40mm, with the integrated bracelet design it was too big for my wrist. The 35 fit perfectly, however the dial is just too small, and the handset just looks chunky and clumsy. A 37.5 would be about right IMHO.
Haha, certainly a lot of green, but, hey, what’s wrong with green?! Any detractors might be…envious 🙃I think the dimensions shrinking down is the key factor in making this a more ideal everyday watch. And I’ve got to say, I would like more brushed surfaces. That and the dimensions and it’d just push this into a new tier of wearability. 🤞🏻Maybe they’ll give that consideration in the future. As for the movements, I can’t fault them, really. Swiss autos with 80-hour power reserves?! It doesn’t get much better for the money
It is like you mentioned maybe a bit flashy and classy but I would buy this gentleman instead of the prx. Especially with this green dial and on the bracelet. It looks fantastic.
Just bought the bluesy last week. Initial thoughts. 1. Butterfly bracelet is comfortable 2. Dial is amazing 3. Build quality is above average 4. Accuracy +3 secs a day 5. Would I recommend? Absolutely Mine doesn't have the cross hair on the dial which I don't like. I think this clutters the dial. If you're on the fence don't be, it's a superb watch.
Wonderful review of such an underappreciated timepiece, often overshadowed by the PRX. The Gentleman is much more versatile than the PRX but is just a shade large for most wrists when it comes to wearability in a dressy setting. Sporty setting? Nails it. If it had a lug to lug nearer that of the Speedy at 47 it would do bits. But this in a 38mm would be a perfect watch and would sell like mad. Thank you for bringing this beauty, especially in the green dial variant, to peolpes attention!
I'm the same as you. Just got this 3 days ago and it's also my first "proper watch". Absolutely so in love with it, and think it looks the most amazing outside in natural daylight. I just cannot stop looking at it 🥰🥰🥰
It's an amazing watch indeed, I'm personally going with the PRX PM80 because of the integratred bracelet though. I think it looks amazing and It's hard to find watches with bracelets like that at the price point. Great video though!
I have this same watch. It is stunning and it gets noticed when on the wrist. Like you I would have preferred a fold over clasp with some micro adjustments. I got a great deal on it. And though I don't mind the cross hair dial in would have liked a plain dial option to choose from. Compared to the PRX...the PRX quartz is a better value. However, the Gentleman also comes in quartz version that blow the PRX out of the water (in my opinion), it's not fair to compare the Gentleman automatic to a quartz PRX.
I think you can get good deals as fewer people go for this one because now the PRX is there! And for a bit less cash. I like the patterned dial on the auto PRX, though, so would still have to be the auto for me. Hopefully I’ll get one in and can take a look at it! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
just bought a green dial gentleman and i cannot stop look down at my wrist. absolutely love the look. my only other watch is an orange dial seiko 5, so the tissot being “too loud” in the polishing department doesn’t really bother my in the slightest. great video!
I really want to love the gentleman but the cross hair on the dial, the polished centre link's, butterfly clasp and the dimensions 😭 why couldn't they just sort that s*#t out 🥺 they used to do a gentleman without the cross hairs, think it was a quartz 🤔 but the prx seems the better of the 2 although I like the daily wear look of the gentleman 😩 It's said (and I believe) there is no such thing as the perfect watch. Great vid Pip😎👍
Cheers, mate! Yeah, I agree - the Gentleman just has that versatility. There's definitely no such thng as the perfect watch (or that's the impression I've got from what I've handled - admittedly I still haven't owned a Rolex Submariner with Date, which is my ultimate grail. Yawn, I know), but this would come close just in terms of simplicity and adaptability with a few alterations. I'd even go up to a grand for something that had everything this watch packs in, but with better dimensions and a few upgraded specs.
I had to see this one again today. I was wearing my PRX and saw a bloke wearing a Gentleman. I got a good look at it too, but Ibstill think it's too big. 39mm would be perfect, kind of a Tissot SARB, but would be much more wearable and all-rounder. A watch this dressy shouldn't be that big, it's a watch only desirable for young yuppies in their first office job. The PRX is more weird and unique. It has already become an icon, and the value is incredible. It's just awesome. I've worn mine a lot, and it has gotten some hairlines, but the polished edges between the links are still nice and sparkly. I love this dynamic balance between simple and refined that is the PRX design, which can probably also be said about the RO, but at a totally different price point.
I'd love this in 37mm, mate. I've been checking out a Longines Spirit 37mm and I'm just always wondering now why brands don't split the difference between those 40mm "men's" dress models and 35mm "women's" watches. 37mm watches with smooth bezels are just killer on *most* wrists.
@LumePip I absolutely agree. And I don't get why so many beautiful watches only comes in 42mm or even bigger. Raymond Weil is one of these brands, I think Bulova too nowdays, even though they have quite a limited lot of interesting pieces worth considering. The Longines Spirit is a great watch, good size, tasty design, LOVELY bracelet, and so on. I love my Master Collection Moonphase. It is 42mm, though, but it actually wears quite well, 50mm lug-tip to lug-tip, but the lugs points straight downwards, so it kinda makes the watch seem both smaller and slimmer than what it actually is, and that dial is to die for. I have the black one, and with the white hands on chrono pushers it kinda looks like a Speedy and some Patek Grand Complication had a lovely shag at some posh ski resort in the Swiss Alps. which, in my opinion is a perfect match between sporty and dressy, on the bracelet it looks very contemporary and sporty, but it on a nice, taprered black leather strap, preferably something a bit chunky in the middle, and even white switching works with this, and boom it looks like a £100k piece. I think that's one of the things I think Longines does very well, even though they are not the cheapest, they are incredible value for money, and the quality is on par with much more expensive brands. Ok, gonna see the rest of the Vario 1918 video now. Looks like a cool watch.
Gentleman is very similar to my Grand Seiko Heritage. Better than PRX and, even though it has light anti-reflective sapphire, to cut down on reflection I went with the silver dial which IMO is even more elegant than the other color options. Eventually I will upgrade to the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre white dial which is the thinner and more sleek version of gentleman and with heavy anti-reflective coating.
Excellent video mate and my first seen of yours. New subscriber here. I personally think the Gentleman is the best styled Tissot available currently. Much prefer it to the PRX, which may be better bang for buck but no where near as classy.
Thanks, Brian! If you want my opinion, I'd say keep it simple. I've never got on with open-heart dials, and always prefer - especially as would be the case with this watch - looking at the movement from the back, rather than just seeing the balance spring through a peep hole. But just go with your gut and enjoy it!
i have the green one and wear over few month, one problem of this watch is the ring very easy to get scratch, overall,it's really beautiful and shine ,
My only complaint which I have not done research on is that the watch does not have 80 hours of reserve power as claimed. I could test this in the future by recording the time I set it down and see when it stops but I digress. It seems to only last 2 full days before stopping (48 hours) which is not a huge deal but one worth looking into.
I seem to remember mine getting a few days - admittedly I wasn't measuring it with surgical precision. But I could leave it a couple of days and it'd still be going.
@@LumePip yeah I’m not trying to claim it doesn’t go a full 80 hours yet, atleast not before knowing concretely but I suspect it might be an exaggerated number. I’ll look the next time though
@@clayroberts2951 I think they're always there or thereabouts 😅 It's like the "42" or "60" hour power reserves - I think it's quite a liberal ballpark, so to speak. I'd love to see the Oris Calibre 400 and see how that 5-day or 120hour one gets on... 🤙
Lol I saw this late. I bought prx powermatic 80 green dial. Damn so u guys saying this one better.. I believe 41 too big for my wrist. This watch looks great. 😊
Yes, no one has a 21 mm strap laying around. Yes, after buying one you can replace the Gentleman’s bracelet. Good luck doing the same with the PRX! Oh, btw, does the PRX’ bracelet comes with a butterfly clasp? Of course it does.
That's a good point, mate! I think the way the PRX has taken off has meant a lot of third parties making custom bands for it, mind, which I don't think has happened with the Gentleman. And some of those proprietary bands look badass. It would be nice to see some fitted ones for the Gentleman, too
@@LumePip, I thought PRX’s was integrated? I think it’s funny that a watch sells because of its looks and then a whole new market dedicated to changing the way it looks grows exponentially.
I was actually going to my AD for a Gentleman, but when I comperd it with the PRX it was a bit anonymous. The PRX hade so much more going on and I went home with the PRX.
Im surprised nobody compared this watch to the time only black bay 41…i wanted a time only black bay 41 but could not bring myself to do it…the gentleman just looks more expensive
I think the polished aspects of this make it look really expensive, as does, weirdly, the very reflective crystal. The dial is a stunner, though, and that probably helps, too! 😅
+8 sec/day as you mention in the video doesn't seem that great for this movement. I've heard others claim it is under +/- 5 sec/day. I suppose it really depends on the particular watch & how you wear it. Thanks for the video.
Cheers, Jason!! A scratch magnet, for sure, and an all-brushed, flatter design would edge it, no doubt. I wonder if this line will get the attention the PRX is evidently seeing from Tissot over the coming years... (Would they bother doing an auto chrono for THIS?)
Honestly, I'd not go for the open heart. I did a video on a different watch WITH an open heart and I didn't like it. I'd far sooner have one without the open heart, and I think without the open heart, you end up with a more versatile watch. Good luck!
Great video! Personally I’m going after a Hamilton Kakhi King. However, I’d throw in the Certina DS1 and DS Podium as an everyday, budget Swiss timepiece. Cheers!
Ooh, good question... For me, open hearts are basically a no-go. I tried the Pompeak Gentleman (eerily similar names) and I thought it could've been really beautiful if it DIDN'T have the open heart. But if that's your thing, then go for it. The movements are solid and Tissot really do offer amazing value - proper big Swiss watch, easily serviceable and well finished.
@@LumePip Interesting, didn't know that - thanks for the info! I assumed they used the French version cause Tissot is "French" Swiss (I believe?). Love your channel, actually bought the Tissot Gentleman yesterday thanks to you. Cheers
@@JM17881 One of the few things I still do since leaving university is using the Oxford English Dictionary - mainly to make sure all the fancy words I wnt to use actually mean what I think they do... 😅 And that's likely also true! "Get a word that can do both." 😏 And that's lovely to hear. Wear it in good health and let me know what you think of it! What colourway did you go for??
I think I was getting about +10 per day with this, from what I remember. I always measure the accuracy, but this wasn't flagging up any issues. Good amplitude and minimal beat error as well.
My tissot gentleman powermatic 80 watch has a deviation of only +0.5 to +1 seconds per day. Many people who own this watch say the same values. In short, I believe that there are better values than many watches with cosc certificate. It's been about 2 months, it's got the clock and it continues stably.
This watch...for me it's a six out of ten...in almost every aspect. It's a handsome watch with a decent movement but it somehow doesn't give me tingles. For me the watch is a little on the boring side and it's got a polished bezel and a generic looking bracelet with polished center links, neither of which I'm a fan of.
I have a feeling you might be speaking for a lot of people on this one, mate. Do you think if it was all brushed it’d be a different story?? Because beyond just the better price of the PRX, I think the fact it’s all brushed does it for me. But the lack of AR coating actually makes it seem *more* polished, as it’s just another surface for the light to bounce off
@@LumePip Yes mate, if it were fully brushed it would be a different story. I'd like this with a radial brushing on the bezel, and a fully brushed bracelet. And you're right about the AR coating. You'd expect this from a watch in this market segment.
I think it does wear quite big - it's a pretty big-looking dial, if that makes sense. It's quite open and the (welcome) lack of text does make it somewhat spacey. It's 40mm but it was only just about wearable on my 6.5 inch wrist. Any bigger and I wouldn't recommend buying.
I think it's pretty OK for everyday use - the polished links are obviously a bit more flashy but if you can find a decent strap, you can obviously mix it up a bit! But 100m of water resistance and sapphire crystal, that's pretty much all you need, I think
@@LumePip I picked it up and it's perfect for formal attire. I was surprised how well it also goes with a Tshirt and jeans. Thanks @lumepip for the video
The Gentleman better. The PRX is overpriced. The PRX is a Beautiful watch but since the bracelet is the selling point I believe the Quartz version of the PRX is the better bang for your buck and the blue dial looks better than that waffle dial.
Got this exact one from Santa today. I love it. I tried the PRX on with this at Tissot store and, for me, the choice was easy, gentleman all the way!

I have no doubt others get better numbers! My brother has a Tissot Visodate and that’s been running great for about 6 years - not even been serviced 🤣
Cool looking watch but would be PRX for me
PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS, MARK (and then please lend it to me 🥺)
Another top review mate! Love the gentleman but you're on the money, couldn't really be an everyday wear with those polished surfaces.
Cheers, Jason!! A scratch magnet, for sure, and an all-brushed, flatter design would edge it, no doubt. I wonder if this line will get the attention the PRX is evidently seeing from Tissot over the coming years... (Would they bother doing an auto chrono for THIS?)
I'm hesitating with the open heart what do you suggest? can't make my mind
Honestly, I'd not go for the open heart. I did a video on a different watch WITH an open heart and I didn't like it. I'd far sooner have one without the open heart, and I think without the open heart, you end up with a more versatile watch. Good luck!
@@LumePip to late haha I did go for the open heart. And tbh loving it. Thx for your answer tho!
Excellent review once more, really like this watch 😁
Thanks very much!!
Почему редко пишут что у Gentlemen silicium точность хода как у rolex ? , потому что спираль баланса от audemars
Does the PRX have the exact same green colour as the Tissot Gentleman model?
I'm not sure! I haven't seen them side by side. But I thought the green of the PRX (when I saw that alone) was actually a darker tone.
I like this justdat... gentleman
Great video! Personally I’m going after a Hamilton Kakhi King. However, I’d throw in the Certina DS1 and DS Podium as an everyday, budget Swiss timepiece. Cheers!
Very nice choices, indeed! The Certina I had was a peach of a watch, so I can imagine those two are solid pieces
Opinions on the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Open Heart?
Ooh, good question... For me, open hearts are basically a no-go. I tried the Pompeak Gentleman (eerily similar names) and I thought it could've been really beautiful if it DIDN'T have the open heart. But if that's your thing, then go for it. The movements are solid and Tissot really do offer amazing value - proper big Swiss watch, easily serviceable and well finished.
I have the PRX and the gentleman ice blue dials. I find that the PRX bracelet sucks. Not T-fit glide lock
Which do you like more ?i like the two and planning to get one of them ..
Great piece!
"Silicium" is actually French for Silicon
Yeah, true, but it's also in the English dictionary too. It's just another word for silicon, dating back to the early 19th century.
How is the accuracy of the movement? Is it about +/- 20 sec per day?? Or +\- 30?
I think I was getting about +10 per day with this, from what I remember. I always measure the accuracy, but this wasn't flagging up any issues. Good amplitude and minimal beat error as well.
@@LumePip thx for the answer
My tissot gentleman powermatic 80 watch has a deviation of only +0.5 to +1 seconds per day. Many people who own this watch say the same values. In short, I believe that there are better values than many watches with cosc certificate. It's been about 2 months, it's got the clock and it continues stably.
+2/-2
I love the gentleman. Wait, that didn't sound right.
This is way capital letters count so much... 🤣
It is easy, well if you want a luxurious look get the Tissot Gentleman.
Good review
Does the watch wear larger than the size mentioned?
I think it does wear quite big - it's a pretty big-looking dial, if that makes sense. It's quite open and the (welcome) lack of text does make it somewhat spacey. It's 40mm but it was only just about wearable on my 6.5 inch wrist. Any bigger and I wouldn't recommend buying.
gentleman 36,38mm it'll be happy
I also much perfer the gentleman but with an aftermarket bracelet with retro fitted endlinks
Gentleman with a custom oyster leather strap looks like a 20k watch! The amount of comments I've gotten, it's unreal.
Imagine if they did a no date version with fully brushed bracelet and three fold clasp 😈
Hot diggity dog! We have a weiner! Yeah, I'd be all over that. Good shout 🤌🤌🤌
Is it too flashy gor everyday use?
I think it's pretty OK for everyday use - the polished links are obviously a bit more flashy but if you can find a decent strap, you can obviously mix it up a bit! But 100m of water resistance and sapphire crystal, that's pretty much all you need, I think
@@LumePip I picked it up and it's perfect for formal attire. I was surprised how well it also goes with a Tshirt and jeans.
Thanks @lumepip for the video
I went with the Gentleman in green. Yes, lose the crosshairs.
I own both and the Gentleman is of higher build quality
Prefer the PR100 series
Better bcause it has no fake or homage or resemble or whatever it is like prx
Superior movement. Just a little chunky for a smaller wrist.
I think this watch would've been better at 38mm instead of 41mm
Couldn't agree more, mate!
I'll save you 8 minutes and change. Yes, yes it is.
😂👍🏻
PRX does nothing for me.
This might be just your bag, then 😅
The Gentleman better. The PRX is overpriced. The PRX is a Beautiful watch but since the bracelet is the selling point I believe the Quartz version of the PRX is the better bang for your buck and the blue dial looks better than that waffle dial.
Buy a Seiko
Why?
@@spittinvenom9843...That person doesn't even know 🙄😒
@@dnationapocalypse not knocking Seiko, good bang for buck, but at least the dude needs to explain why???
