    Tried both on, compared them carefully and at the end I opted for the Gentleman. The PRX felt a bit flimsy and thin, and a bit too rooted in the 70s. I felt the Gentleman has a more timeless design, plus the added versatility of being able to switch the bracelet for straps which make it more versatile. I also like the fact that the Gentleman has the Silicium Escapement. Maybe the best route is to get the PRX in blue and the Gentleman in green... or even the lovely 18K gold two-tone version.

    • @enduringtech822
      @enduringtech822 2 года назад +23

      @@hudu3632 Actually, I just happened to read about this recently. Nivachron is the newer technology but it is not better. It is simply easier and cheaper to produce, which means we can have them in more watches vs silicon which is usually only found in pricier watches. So I got to agree with @CoolAndGood006 that the Gentleman should be more resistant to magnetism than the PRX, although not necessarily meaningfully so.

    Thanks for a nicely done comparison. I enjoy your quirky metaphors and your self-deprecating humor as well as your thoroughness. I think you missed one or two things. The biggest one being that while the strict measurement from the top of the PRX to the bottom is the smaller of the two so, since the first link of the bracelet doesn’t flex, the functional dimension from the top of the watch the bottom is much larger and therefore the watch wears larger, at least according to all the other reviewers of the watch. I definitely agree with your conclusion that the PRX is the more interesting of the two. Ultimately the choice is up to each individual’s personal taste. Thanks again for a very nicely done review.

Side note the Gent wears smaller and perfect on leather on my 7" wrist. Great review thanks.

    Tissot is hands down my favorite brand. The PRC200 is my favorite model series. With that said, I have the Gentleman P80 in black. It's a great low end compliment to my GS SBGA203. I love looking at them side by side, and thinking which scenarios dictate the more appropriate watch. With that said, I would be game to get the PRX P80 in blue. However, I can't imagine fitting it in my routine. My wish would be to get the Gentleman in both titanium and Powermatic 80.

    I have just tried the PRX that I've been dreaming of for months. But when I finally tried it in offline store, it felt kinda too formal-ish? I have rather large wrist, and I'm used to wear big diver watches 43-44mm, and the design of the PRX in person looks so not casual like it will feel so weird if i'm going to use it with T shirt and shorts or jeans. So I think I'm going to go for Gentleman but definitely going to buy some aftermarket straps.

    I have the Gentleman Powermatic 80 (I bought it before the PRX even existed), but even then, I prefer the Gentleman over the PRX.
    BTW: your comment about the PRX having a superior balance spring, is not really true. The Gentleman has a silicon balance spring that is superior to the Nivacron balance spring of the PRX (at least what concerns magnetic resistance). The two additional jewels of the Gentleman come from the pallet fork; the Gentleman has a classic pallet fork (with two jewels) while the PRX has a synthetic pallet fork (kind of plastic and without jewels).

    • @atourdeforce
      @atourdeforce 2 года назад +13

      Saying its kind of plastic is soo misleading, and not even remotely true. Its escapment is made from silicon, there is zero plastic in it.
      In the early stages people read synthetic(which it is) and presumed that meant plastic or glass reinforced plastic, which is where the misnomer came from.
      The whole reason it has 2 less Jewels is because its made from silicon and doesn't need the 2 extra jewels in the palet forks, the palet forks are made from silicon and silicon is ultra low friction, even lower than jewels.
      Even Patek are starting to use fully synthetic(silicon) escapements, which should tell you everything you need to know.
      You point on the balance spring is also not exactly true and misleading. There is no evidence anywhere to suggest the Nivachron spring is less or more antimagnetic than the Silicium Spring and many watch experts are now surmising that it is just a marketing ploy and that both are equally as good.
      I'm not suggesting that the antimagnetism factor is a marketing ploy, as its not. My point is having either one of these in your watch is superior to a regular balance spring, but there is no evidence to suggest the Silicium is better than the Nivachron or vice versa.

    PRX has 2 less jewels because of the pallet fork and the escapement wheel being synthetic, and as synthetic materials have self lubricating properties there is no need of putting that 2 extra jewels. This alongside the silicium hairspring are the only differences between the 2 movements. Many people will argue that plastic parts on the PRX are a shame and a dealbreaker, but for me both are well made and equally reliable.

    PRX all day, hands down. The gentleman’s is fine, but If I’m getting a submariner, I’d rather save the room in my collection for something a bit more high end. PRX is so unique. Don’t miss out by buying the gentleman’s.

    i heard that PRX has some plastic elements in the movement....which must be a deal breaker for some

      i think the video you refer too, which you saw that in, was also a watchmaker commenting if that really is the case and if it is, why it is.

    Gentleman all day. PRX bracelet clasp horribly uncomfortable with no strap options. Also super shiny. The former more subdued, timeless.

      The Gentleman is was more shiny. It’s polished and prx is brushed steel.

    Gentleman just looks classier and elegant. A timeless design that looks as good in a suit as it does in jeans.
    I don’t mind the PRX but it definitely feels gimmicky & not quite as versatile.

    Why do watch reviews insist on measuring expensive timepieces with CHEAP-O 5$ Chinese Digital Calipers?
    Grab a genuine Japanese made Mititoyu Digital Caliper and you'll look much more impressive! Great timepieces need great test instruments 😀 Great Review 👍

      Probably because the mititoyo will be stainless & hardened. The cheap plastic calipers won't scratch those lovely watches. The cheap calipers are plenty accurate enough.

    The .111 movement had a plastic part, the .611 does not.

    both should be 38/39 mm for an only time watch

    Your comparison of the movement falls short when you try and compare navichron in the PRX to the jewels in the Gentleman. The Gentleman uses a silicone hairspring which is ultimately more antimagnetic than Navichron (a metal alloy). It is literally plastered on the Gentleman that it has a silicium hairspring.

      Yeah he missed that. Also the .111 In the PRX has a plastic escapement. I have noticed he actually gives wrong information alot of the time

    The gentleman is perfect for my 8in wrist.

    The PRX was here 20yrs ago. You just didn't know it.
    The Gentleman is the better watch here. That's why you have to pay a bit more. 😉
