I just bought this watch a few weeks ago. It was a replacement to my Rado, which was stolen when my hotel was looted following a devastating typhoon that hit Siargao Island, Philippines, in December 2021. I absolutely love it. I wasn't even shopping for a Tissot, but there it was in the display shelf. I use it everyday and don't even realize I'm wearing it most of the time.

I got the green Gentleman for my wedding last year. I love it so much, I got a second, black dial on leather version. AND I got a quartz version for both of my groomsmen for my wedding and they both wear them regularly to this day. Its one of my primary daily wearers, and it's holding up very Well! The movement is still running at about -2s per day. I have recommended the Gentleman to almost anyone who's looking for a GADA watch. The 21mm lug width is a bonus for me personally. I have large wrists so sometimes a 20mm bracelet can feel a bit petit on me. But sometimes a 22mm bracelet just feels like a tank track around your wrist. The 21mm is right in the sweet spot for someone my size for that casual/GADA style daily wearer.

I like that this really plays to the feature dial. Those indices are absolutely fantastic and really do make a feature of themselves, especially with that level of finishing.

I went for the 18k gold bezel version, as I really liked the satinated black dial it came with. It also came on the leather strap and had the 20mm lugs as opposed to the odd lug size of the other auto and quartz Gentlemen. All around beautiful and efficient timepiece.

Tissot achieved a rare feat that not even Rolex can pull out. They manufactured a watch with a sensible size and managed to make it look larger and chunkier than it is. Whereas Rolex, as we have recently seen, can only make their watches look bigger by increasing their actual size 🙂

  • @bobbydazzler1780

I picked up a black dial version on the leather deployant strap as I didn’t fancy the non adjustable bracelet with all that shine going on. The reason I bought it was that I was interested in giving the ETA movement a go and checking on its characteristics. Mine runs at +1s/day after about 6 months which is up there with my Rolex watches, better than my Sub for example. The power reserve easily goes past 70 hours and the antimagnetic properties are cool for a watch at this price point. I’ve got a medium sized wrist and I’d say this watch wears true to 40mm which is, after all, biggish for a watch in this style. Overall I’m very happy with this piece as an everyday beater that you won’t care about picking up marks and scratches. It works very well on the strap which is good quality and can be adjusted easily on the fly. Don’t expect JLC or Patek finishing guys, you get what you pay for, but it’s nice to have a display caseback and sapphire front and back. I’d say it’s punching way above its weight. Maybe they should also release a 38mm ‘Tissot Lady’ version. It’s a good job it doesn’t say ‘Gentleman’ on the dial or caseback which would be a bit naff. I’ve also read that this watch can be fitted with a 22mm after market strap no problem.

I’ve owned this watch for a year now, and while not COSC certified, the movement is COSC certified in other watches. I’m getting +/- 2 seconds per day. It’s in my opinion the best value in an automatic watch available!

I have had this watch now for approximately two months. I use it like a casual watch with jeans and T-shirt. I bought the watch on a leather strap, mainly because I did not like the metal bracelet.
I changed out the original leather strap with one of my own 22 mm straps and it fits perfectly. I have been measuring the time, and it runs +2/ seconds per day.

I was all on board for this watch but then after watching a few reviews, I noticed they all said it wears bigger than 40mm. Between 36-38 mm would be my sweet spot but many of us smaller wristed enthusiasts say that, right? But I want that movement!

It's a great looking watch but I would highly recommend actually trying one on as opposed to ordering online. Teddy had me sold up to that point.
I tried one on a strap and it fit strange and seemed larger than it sounds on paper.
    6.75 / 7 in wrist.
I would love to try the bracelet version to see if there is any significant difference.

  • @waltersjohn6339

Spot on! I bought this watch with a silver dial on a leather strap. It is indeed a gorgeous dial. It is also the most accurate "non chronometer" watch that I own. It is definitely a tremendous value. HOWEVER, I bought it because it was only 40 mm. But the prominent polished bezel makes the watch look much larger. I have a 165 mm wrist, this watch is a bit of a stretch. But I will never part with it because it is just so beautiful to look at.

Great review Jenni. I have had a few Tissot watches over time, the finish has always impressed for the cost, the 80 hour power reserve is a bonus and the Gentleman version looks like it punches well above it's weight. I love that blue dial. I'm still laughing at your "itty bitty wrist committee" quote, beautifully describing us with spindle wrists so much more elegantly.

I own this watch. The first 2 months it was running at 0 sec/day. Now It runs +1sec/day. Stunning watch for the price. I handwind it every day because I only wear it for 8 hours/day, and that is not enough to keep it wound. It catches the light beautifully and will turn heads. But I scratched the band and bezel, so now I have to figure out how to polish them again. :)

    • @docmarioce31
      @docmarioce31 2 года назад +1

Respecfully, once you wind an automatic self-winding watch once with approximately 40 turns, you won't have to wind it again unless (in the specfic case of this watch) you take it out of your wrist for more that 80 hrs. Every movement of your wrist makes the rotor spin in the movement and winds the watch constantly. No need to wind it daily.

As someone who really loves watches but is on an incredibly tight budget, I was looking for a nice, affordable automatic watch to replace my relatively boring, sub 400$ Seiko Quartz Chronograph. Thanks for the review. My view is that this Tissot Powermatic, despite a slightly disappointing bracelet (money has to be saved somewhere) is a great offer from an historically relevant brand.
For most people, including me, makes more sense buying this watch and saving a good few thousand Euros rather than buying an Omega AquaTerra or a now discontinued Rolex OP39. Given the price, you don’t feel so precious about it and can enjoy the watch in most circumstances and if you scratch the case when changing the strap, it does not ruin your week the same as a scar on your Rolex would.
And if you’re lucky, it will keep time fully within COSC spec for Seiko money + services every 5 years won’t require a full month saving to pay for.

I bought this watch a couple of months ago, I think it looks like a more expensive watch than it is. I have a small wrist so I did not get the watch on a bracelet. I have it in a blue shell cordovan strap and it looks amazing (be aware that you need curved lugs, otherwise you are going to damage the strap). Because of my work there are some times I dont want to wear my other more expensive watches, so this is a daily beater for me and it works perfect.

I think this watch’s natural competition is from within Tissot itself.
I like the Ballade as well, with its COSC certification, but I prefer the blue dial and modest luminescence that are available on the Gentleman. As I understand it, the Powermatic 80 movement is pretty accurate without the chronometer rating, and the Oyster-style bracelet on the Gentleman would suit my needs just fine.
I think the Gentleman ticks the most boxes for me.

The PRX was just too chunky for my taste; I really prefer the round appearance of the Gentleman. It came down to the auto vs quartz movements, and again, the thinner quartz model won out. (I have thick wrists, and an issue with watches that don't slip under my shirt cuffs.) Accuracy has been impressive, within about one second per month. I got it with Tissot's leather strap, which keeps it light and thin and looks very classy. You have to be happy when the one you like the best is also the least expensive - I may get a second one, with green or silver dial (tough choice), and still spend less than a PRX would have cost me.
The only downside I can think of is the lack of an anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal - I'd have been happy to pay a bit more for that feature.

Thanks for this video. I appreciate the perspectives provided. I am impressed with the level of refinement and workmanship of this watch for its price point. I wished that you could have expanded the discussion by including the other versions of the Gentleman line such as the quartz and leather strap variants. In general, quartz watches largely are overlooked in favor of automatic movement versions. I am considering a quartz version of this watch which is half the price of the automatic version!!!!! At the quartz price point, this watch is a steal for the quality and craftsmanship. If you were to make a video about the best Swiss watch under $500, then the Gentleman in quartz would definitely be a contender.

❤❤❤i wore my prx in public yesterday-the coolest thing about this watch( attracted lots of attention )is that it has its own unique beauty !...doesnt look like a homage or a fake watch-i predict that these low prices of the prx line will skyrocket into the wonderful of vanity-and i am a proud owner of the quartz no worries excellance-a watch u can quickly grab and go out without the hassle of setting the time or adjusting-this watch will transform the efficiency of wearing an attractive lightweight thin timepiece !!

As a new subscriber, I have to say, I really enjoy your content. That’s a beautiful watch, and having an 8(ish)” wrist I think the size and bracelet would be fine for me. That said, based on my experience with 3 different Citizens (with 21mm lugs), a 22 mm band/strap will fit, if you wanted change it up.

Tissot - def one of the most underrated watch brands. Have a chrono that looks very expensive - was under $300.
    Great video.

I’ve been trying to find a nice watch about 500-1000 as a graduation gift to myself. A watch I can use both for everyday use and perhaps job interviews. This is the watch I have been looking at the most but if anybody in the community has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Great video

00:18 Buying substitutes for the timepiece you really want is always the most expensive option. You end up with the watch you really want eventually and all the place-holders you bought along the way. This is a great option if one is able to buy one watch and walk away. But then, that's not what watch enthusiasts do. Very handsome watch.

@@brianhsin678 Bullshit. I bought this watch because I fuck**g wanted it, not because I want to spend 10 years saving for a solid gold Rolex or Patek that I will regret buying for the rest of my life. Life is about keeping things in proportion - spending 'new car' money on a watch is simply insane, unless you are rich of course.

@@thetruth495 Why would you regret buying one? You can buy a gold Rolex president used for 10k that’s not that much money if you save for a couple years

    • @EssenceOfTrance
      @EssenceOfTrance 3 года назад +5

@@GODOFLIQUOR Not everyone wants to save up for a watch. Some people would rather spend that money on literally anything else. Besides, once you move up past the 2k point, the finishing of most pieces won't increase dramatically. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this watch, the Monta Noble and a Rolex OP.

Loved the presentation and subbed. I'm curious, when it comes to style. The blue screen would probably fit blue or grey clothing. What would be the most "passive' color screen, one that would fit any type of clothes you wear. White or black screen?

It's my music performing watch for me since in my genres gigs tend to be all black so I wear the black gentleman on a black suede strap, and then if I'm standing next to amplification I don't have to worry about magnetizing the movement with the magnetic fields coming off those large speakers.

    Hi Jenni,
I think you're spot on with this video. I have been so close to pulling the trigger many times. As you say, it's a great value watch, however, it will probably not satisfy the demand for an Omega Aqua Terra, Rolex Oyster and so forth. I am currently waiting for the right Omega Aqua Terra opportunity

Although I’m not an owner I’ve always been a fan of Tissot. They make some nice looking sports models too. For a young lady or gentleman, as a gift or reward for achievement a Tissot would make an excellent choice.
