But I didn’t buy the Submariner when I had the opportunity to buy one (below MSRP before everything got crazy) and didn’t because I don’t think it’s a very good looking watch. The Seamaster is almost exclusively the only other diver that still has it’s own DNA, where everything else is basically just a Submariner homage.
What’s more, I bought the black dial Seamaster and Tudor Black Bay Bronze for the same price that I would have paid for a vintage 16610 sub.

I have submariner and have been eyeing for white dial Seamaster diver 300 for sometimes. I hesitated due to the size, finally traded my panerai for black dial Seamaster and couldn’t be happier. It fits my 6.3” wrist better than my sub. The bracelet is indeed heavy and clasp is larger than I’d like and certainly makes you feel aware you’re wearing a heavy watch but I still like it. I also add short rubber strap when I get bored of the bracelet. I certainly wear my Seamaster more frequently than my sub.

Wore a sub as my daily driver for 11 years, and recently received the SMP 300 Summer Blue as a gift from my girlfriend. I prefer the Omega to the sub, and it has become my go-to watch. I'm going to go against popular opinion and say that I love the fact that the bracelet doesn't taper. Like you said in the video, it gives the watch a more aggressive look. I have found it to be a very comfortable bracelet. Unlike Rolex, Omega also offers various strap options. I also have the rubber strap with deployant clasp. I'm indifferent about the helium escape valve. The Omega is also much less likely to attract unwanted attention from thieves. Quite honestly, between Omega and Tudor, I'll probably never own another Rolex again.

I own both of these watches. (Well, the 16610 and a 3rd gen Seamaster). I had the Sub serviced by Rolex in Jan while the 2103 Seamaster has never been serviced, yet the Seamaster keeps better time. I reckon that's down to the George Daniels Coaxial Escapement. Genius. I also find the Seamaster just that bit more interesting visually. The Sub has just become so homaged (to put it very kindly). And the other and perhaps biggest hoo-ha is I find myself having to be 'aware' when I wear it and really, who really needs that? I also own a blue BB58, which while perhaps not as good is a very cool shout for the money.
P.S. One of the things I like best is that the bracelet doesn't actually taper. You can spot a Seamaster on the far side of a room and in these days of samey watch styles, anything that stands out and has it's own gig is a big plus for me.

But I certainly prefer the look of the Seamaster. And finally..... One thing I absolutely can guarantee.... I got my Seamaster No time to die for only £500-£1000 more than second hand. However, prices on this particularly watch are too high to start with, and are crashing relatively🙈 I own a sub too, but the old 5 digit reference. I've long gone back and forth on this, but am firmly back on the Submariner side. I love all the different options available with the SMP300, but the Submariner wins on so many levels it's hard argue otherwise.
The Omega has the price advantage, and the accessibility advantage.
But if you can get the Sub, it is better sized, much thinner, better movement, better bezel, far better bracelet and clasp. Looks are also subjective, but the Sub is also a design icon that the SMP300 is (loosely) based on. And it doesn't have the awful helium escape value and obnoxious marketing.
Overall, it is a matter of preference and price of course, but the Sub wins it for me.

    Glass base vs. metal lid
Even if I give in to the nostalgic arguments in favor of a mechanical watch, I also want to be able to see the “magic of mechanics”.
A look through the glass base provides an insight into the inner workings - with subtle to open-hearted clock designs. One of the most beautiful moments for watch enthusiasts is to look at the clockwork at work through the display back.
It is all the more surprising that manufacturers like Rolex install a tasteless metal lid instead of a display back.
To this day, the Rolex Group “defends” itself vehemently against the use of glass backs: there is (almost) no model at Rolex or its subsidiary Tudor that has more than a plain steel back.
There is a lot of manual work behind the timepieces and it's just a shame if watch enthusiasts never get to see these little works of art.
This is perhaps because the Rolex calibers are not among the most beautiful in the watch market and Rolex does not want to invest anything in beautifying its calibers.
A steel floor is cheaper to produce because a viewing window requires a significant increase in precision in production, for example for the seals and the glass.
Just the idea of knowing that a mechanical caliber is built in isn't enough for me personally, I want to be able to see it at work. Without a visible back, it doesn't matter to me which caliber is installed, I can't see it!
I praise the display backs of my Omega Planet Ocean GMT 600M or my Breitling Navitimer B01, it's always a feast for the eyes to watch the caliber at work.

I got a Sub recently in a shop by the official retailer So it is possible. I am an old client I bought a few watches (not Rolex) by them, so I took some primacy. I don't negotiate in watches, I don't flip watches so I got mine.
I don't see the Seamaster as an option to a Submariner. The only think you get is you get a new watch, but not your Grail watch. And after a while you realize that it was the Sub you always wanted. And you've spend your money.
So the only way you'll find yourself happy with a Seamaster is if the Seamaster is indeed your Grail watch.
For me it was never an option. The only Omega I'm into is the Speedy.

Rolex is the only brand that is famous among those people who do not know anything about watches, which is why it is sought after by all those people who are *not rich or wealthy* but who want to *make people believe* that they are rich or wealthy.
For the same price, Omega offers mechanically superior watches. Those who buy an Omega do so because they are so wealthy that they don't care about people's opinions or the future value of the watch, and especially they don't need a watch to show off to prove their wealth because its already clear.

Do you know why Rolex/Doxa invented the automatic helium escape valve? Because deep sea divers kept forgetting to unscrew the crown to release the gas. Do you see how stupid it is to "invent" an additional crown that you have to manually unscrew as opposed to just unscrewing the crown that doesn't solve the original problem? It's too silly for me to even consider the Seamaster as a serious watch. For me, mechanical watches are about heritage and story - since they are obsolete. If the story is so silly, then it makes the watch silly.

    • @IrishScribbler

Which is why the Seamaster was issued to those serving in the Royal Navy and military intelligence in WWII and has been the official timekeeper for the Olympics for nearly a century. This isn't entirely true. 1 unscrewing the crone to let gas out, can also let other unwanted things in, this is not good, which is why HE valves are one way valves. 2. Not sure about older saturation divers, but current ones, don't forget. I know most people might, but when you work in an environment that can kill you, procedures are paramount. Saturation divers are exactly like that, they don't forget things and everything is planned out and executed.
Finally the heritage does matter. Omega's heritage is unrivalled

    • @Phidz-x9h
      @Phidz-x9h 4 месяца назад

@@ALL-il1sw It is true. I am aware that the Seamaster's HE crown, once unscrewed, functions similarly to the Rolex He escape valve in that it doesn't allow water ingress, but He escape valves function in a chamber filled with air, not water. The original divers never complained about water going into their watches when they unscrewed the regular crown, they complained about forgetting to unscrew the crown in the first place.

So tell me, if the Submariner is so much more advanced (which it isn’t; any horological expert will tell you that the co-axial escapement is the most significant advancement in watchmaking over the last 250 years) why are people who are more than financially able to buy Rolex buying Omega instead? As a journalist I reckon I meet more people of influence than you do and they’re certainly not stupid. Given a choice between the two, I would always pick the Submariner. Not because of the "Rolex" name on the dial but for other reasons - 1) The Skeletonized hands of SMP 300 sometimes make it harder to read the time. 2) A bracelet without tapering does not look classy (at least from my eyes), 3) Submariner is aesthetically and proportionally a better made watch.
If Omega makes the hands in SMP300 fully luminescent like in the Planet ocean collection (minus the thickness) I would definitely get the Omega here. Having said that if the comparison was between Submariner and Planet Ocean 39.5, my vote goes to Planet Ocean all day long.
