  • We all know the icon that the Datejust is. It can’t be questioned, and with its rise, it has paved the way for endless conversation for not only itself but the many alternatives out there. And although you can mention many when contemplating the concept of alternatives to the Datejust, but let’s face, most of them don’t stand a chance in holding their own to arguably one of the most versatile watches ever made. However, today we look at one on a shortlist of alternatives, that in reality, is not as much an alternative, but a worthy adversary, the OMEGA Globemaster. So how do they stack up? Today these two go head-to-head.

I think you really have to put the watch on your wrist and actually like it. I get caught up in which movement is better, but it really amounts to a second or two a month. Underrated really means, if you sell it, you won't get what it is worth.

RickJason For sure... though, at the “entry-level” price range, like the Oyster Perpetual, they do build a reliable watch that is also aesthetically pleasing. They certainly aren’t “haute horologie” by any means, but they build a solid watch that holds value well. Personally, JLC is the brand for me.

Hey Teddy. I was lucky enough to get a blue dial Globemaster as a wedding gift, and it will never leave my collection. It now sits with pride beside my Sky-Dweller and 15400st Royal Oak , and never feels out of its depth, which pretty much says it all. Fantastic - and very much underappreciated - watch.

Hi Teddy, I bought a Seamaster Aqua Terra about 12 years ago with the 2500 (B) movement. I still wear it daily and it runs to about 2 seconds accuracy. I am glad I made the purchase. It is a very robust piece that has aged wonderfully. Truth be told, I couldn't have afforded the Datejust at the time. Would I have bought the Datejust if I could have? Probably so. No regrets now, though. I do covet the Day Date with the Jubllee bracelet, however. Not because of any perceived inherent superior quality, just because of the name recognition. I am older now, so I am kind of over wanting to impress others with my watch. I can afford the Day Date now, but don't see the need. Plus, Rolex is kind out of control on pricing for what you get at present. Just my two cents worth.

Tried them both on the same day. Rolex DJ does not appeal to me, not a bad looking watch but kinda boring. On top of that, Rolex current politics and behaviour of sales people is a real turn off from the brand. From the other hand, it was a pleasure to deal with Omega sales people. The Globemaster is a very striking peace.

I'm a watch newbie who wore a black Seiko SKX with jubilee band since the early 2000's and before that a Casio dive-type quartz with a gold face and black rubber strap (never knew the model). Recently I lost my beloved SKX but made the best out of it by going watch shopping! :-)
I settled on a Seiko SARB033, which I love, and it stoked my interest in watches in general so I started researching and watching videos. For us newbies your videos are hands down the best. Great information, both objective and your subjective opinions, delivered with style, humility and a wisdom beyond your years.
When I saw your watches of world leaders video I really appreciated you not going political and just sticking to the important thing -- the watches the leaders wear. From your watches of famous musicians video your take on Led Zeppelin is exactly the same as mine, and you're my eldest son's age. One video ended with your great grandfather's watch, which moved me so much I forget which video it came from because your great grandfather's watch *is* that video to me.
Anyway, because of you I've decided I'm now shopping for at least one mid-level watch in the $1k to $2k range (I need a dive watch but all those other styles, you know), which of course will lead to a high end watch somewhere down the road. Sorry to drone on, but keep up the great work -- the success of my watch shopping depends on you!

For my first Rolex I was certain I would get myself the exact 36mm Datejust you've featured, minus the Roman numerals: the variance from I through XII hurts the watch's symmetry, in my opinion, so I decided it was to be the stick indices. And fortunately they had the exact model in my local boutique!
Though when I tried it on? Too small. I had worn an Omega Speedmaster (42mm) for some years though, so that no doubt played a role in my appraisal. I took my time, and in the jeweller's case they had another watch I admired: the Milgauss (GV). Its 40mm size danced the line of vintage-to-modern sizing and was right on the money for me, its lack of a maxi case and crown guards being true to its 1950's origins. I had the choice of white, blue, and black dials that weekend. I took my time, trying on every one of them. White? No nice. The washed-out dial had been discontinued even at that time, not due to high sales, but due to people realizing it kind of sucked. Though decades from now, as we've seen with the Daytonas, this may very well boost its value, who knows. The so-called "black" dial? Well, with the green crystal, it's hued with more of an olive tone, especially as a contrast to my fair skin tone. It was a no-brainer: and I pulled the trigger on the blue, which matches my eyes.
Great video, as usual. Come to think of it, have you featured a Milgauss? Requisition a few, I'll help you with with the copy.

I own a datejust 41 dark rhodium diamond dial oyster bracelet and the word gorgeous doesn’t give it justice. Also I own a black Basel black dial submariner date.. two most iconic Rolex’s in my opinion.

Globemaster for sure…..it’s a beautiful timepiece. The new green dial at 41 mm is really nice.

Great video, Teddy. I’m one of those weirdos who would choose the Globemaster. It’s more subtle, less shouty than the Datejust.

Good point. The DJ especially in white gold with the fluted bezel is very blingy and pops; the Globemaster more classical and reserved

You selected exactly the right Omega to go up against the DateJust. IMHO the Globemaster is more than a match for the Rolex. I’m not a bracelet guy, but they’d both rock a beautiful leather strap.

nice video but It would have been better to compare the omega with the new datejust ref 126234 with the upgraded movement.

I just wish the Constellation had the bracelet finished more sharply than they are now. It looks really elegant with all the crisp edges and corners in the face then gets oddly contrasted with the rounded finish of the bracelet.

I would choose the Globemaster. What about a Globemaster vs De Ville Tresor in steel comparison. Which would you choose and why?

Rolex has the more quality & eye catching look , oyster bracelet, silver roman numeral dial just pops, however price as always the kicker. Great reveiw. Thanx. P.S. Tx.

The Datejust needs the Jubilee bracelet, it just looks so much more dressy with it and it it also more comfortable.

My only gripe against the Omega is that the bezels too thin. Rolex kinda has this perfect proportion between the dial width to the dial diameter. And its only that little mm that makes the diff in how balanced it looks

Has anyone else noticed the dial on the GM seems to be off-centre? I noticed it on my own and now see it in every review video. Pause at 0:58 and you will see a slight step down on the outer right edge of the dial just before it meets the case. This step slowly disappears as you move around the dial and is not visible on the outer left edge. Mine has the same issue but the step is visible on the outer left edge. Considering sending my watch back to Omega but seems they all have the same issue - strange.

I'd pick the Globemaster, hands down. I love the pie pan dial. I too wear a vintage Constellation with pie pan dial, nearly identical to yours, and the hour hand adjust for is very handy when travelling between time zones, a feature I miss that the ill fated Omega Quartz 134o movements offered. Great video, thanks for posting.

Which watch has a better, more accurate reliable movement with the probability of less repair or service charges in the future? This should always be emphasized
