Had to choose between Globemaster and Datejust. My mind was telling Datejust, and my heart was clearly with Omega. I choose Globemaster two-tone and never regretted. I smile every time I put it on my wrist. Absurdly accurate, aside from being aesthetically so pleasing. Tool watch, dress watch, family heirloom all in one piece.

I was just browsing Omega watches last Winter, lots of Speedmasters, Seamasters etc but one Omega model stood out above the rest to me. An elegant watch that could be worn for any occasion from a wedding to a football match or even when hiking. That watch was the Globmaster with the pie pan dial in blue (it looks more like a teal colour in real life) on the very dark blue leather band. It's not an in your face "look at me I'm expensive" design but just oozes elegance That watch was my first Omega purchase and should I fall on hard times it will be the last watch of value that I'd sell. It is a watch that from a distance looks just like a tool watch that can tell the time but the wearer knows what it is and that's what counts.

I first saw a Globemaster in Lugano, Switzerland. I never thought, based on that first look, I would ever own one. As time went on, I never could dismiss it. After doing more research, I was able to purchase a blue one a couple of years later. I adore this timepiece and realize how significant and timeless it will be . I wear it almost everyday. I really appreciate the review.

Cross shopped this with Rolex Datejust and Grand Seiko. Had no warm feelings towards Datejust, yeah it's a Rolex, looks nice and keeps it's value but Omega on my wrist kept me happy.

I love the video-essay format of publications. Spec sheet can be found online, but the historical and cultural context makes it alive and appealing. Watch reviews serve a purpose of getting an idea of pros and cons of a given offering but the essays give a deeper understanding of a product. Thank you.

The perfect occasion for the Globemaster is what makes it so desirable to me: Business class on a British Airways 747 at midnight, floating 30,000 feet above the Atlantic below with the warm glow of interstitial reading lights softening the wall before you. Haven't yet found another watch that captures this so perfectly for me.

Great discussion of the oft-overlooked beauty. Such an elegant face - perfect script and subtle batons. Blue face shaded to perfect. Tungsten bezel is amazing. One of Omegas best looking watches on bracelet or strap, hands down better looking than a Datejust. But... it wears big (as does the Aqua Terra, but there is a smaller one of those). Launched in 2015 no one thought watches would be getting smaller, but they will and are, leaving these big formal/dress watches looking dated. 2mm smaller would be perfection.

A great release from Omega over recent years, the Globemaster is not only a great looking but, with its movement, also functioning watch.
It can be dressed up or casually worn and looks great on a bracelet but, really comes into its own on a leather strap.
The choice of dial colours are very legible and the blue dial is such a smart looking watch. The date at 6 o’clock is well positioned and even though it shares a fluted bezel with the Datejust, the lack of a Cyclops lens looks so much more appealing aesthetically.
A really good looking watch from Omega I feel but, commercially popular? Only time will tell.

I have been following your channel since a couple of weeks now and your videos really resonate with me.
I have no formal training in design, but I initially got into watches just for the design. I started with my first luxury watch as the Seamaster Professional 300 (the 1957 Seamster 300 came in a close second). I have my eyes set on the Junghans Max Bill and Seiko SARX033 for my next couple of purchases. Or maybe even a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto. I came across some vintage Constellations while browsing online a week or so ago and that got me lusting for the Globemaster (white dial annual calendar version).
Long story short - your videos so often make me feel like you put my thoughts into words and that we might have pretty much the same taste in watches!

IDGuy The depth measurements are all , at best , variable . Challenger Deep has three basins ( Just South of Guam ) , West , Central and East all of which have slightly varying depths . Multi beam sonar will give different readings to an ROV ie plus or minus 20m . Recorded depths vary between 10928 to 11034 so who knows which one actually went deeper . I'd warrant the Omega has the edge and I'd definitely wear it ... slips under the cuff nicely ;)

Just as an aside IDGuy (sorry, don't know your name): the 8 stars on the case back surrounding the observatory are not there to indicate the 8 criteria for METAS certification. They're reminders of the precision records the Constellation watches achieved in the Observatory Trials. Accordingly, you'll find the observatory and the 8 stars on Constellation watches going way back well before METAS times.

Loving the Omega content! Great vid in a classy under appreciated watch. It maybe one for the enthusiast but that makes it more appealing and it’s a better watch overall than others in that price bracket. I thought the 8 stars signified the various wins Omega took in observatory timing competitions?

    • @ID-Guy

It's clearly Omega Week hahaha! (unplanned) - Omega seems to always offer that extra 20% in it's price range (maybe that's another reason why the brand is loved by so many?) AND regarding the stars... I might've botched that one... One article seemed adamant about it's chronometer testing (linked to METAs), but then the vintage constellations also had them... Goes to show how bad broken telephone can get

The gap between the bracelet and lugs is probably very slight but at that level could annoy me. The strap in general I think is the let down but it’s a great watch, I came close to purchasing it but all in all I always think Omega continually falls short. Other than the speedy pro I always feel disappointed with omegas offerings. (I own a speedmaster Mitsukoshi dial and a vintage seamaster deville so am not an “omega hater”).
This globemaster on leather is an awesome watch though but I think I will go for an Explorer over this. Great video and some excellent footage

Fat-Sam FatSamEIE I wouldn’t say omega always falls short, but I think where they’re letting themselves down lately is as you said with the bracelet on this model. Seems a complete afterthought and secondly, the thickness. I appreciate a really tough antimagnetic shock resistant movement in a diver but I’d rather something a little less robust but much thinner in a watch like this

You think? I think the datejust is rightfully a revered watch. But what Omega with the Globemaster did was creating something completely new yet taking elements from the past to fuse all lose ends together. It's more of an accomplishment because the task was much more difficult for omega than it is for Rolex to make yet another datejust. Though being this consistent with the watch models like Rolex is a virtue all on its own.

I read somewhere the Globemaster was used in the United States until the mid ‘50s. There was a trademark dispute of some kind. Lockheed Martin was producing a passenger plane by the name Constellation through the mid to late ‘50s, no idea if that was the source of the conflict, but it’s a possibility

The original pie pan Constellations had elegance and finesse that none of the later releases could match. That modern cushion case is not dressy enough. To me the modern watch is better that the interim pointless, flat, lost-in-the-crowd versions, but even this latest one is still not sure what it wants to be.

i really like this watch, but its about 3-4mm too large for me.
design nitpicks: i wish omega would move the lugs inward to be more like the early models. i feel like nearly all of omega's watches have overpowering lugs. they try so hard to blend them into the watch head that it almost looks like a stretched cushion case. i also really dislike the typography on the annual calendar version of this watch.

Most brands are really trying their best to make their pieces have the most "presence" as possible... it definitely irks me too. And well said about the typography! I find the script quite fitting for it's vintage-esque styling, but the hand for the month... that really looks like it comes out of the 30's or 40's haha! Great how our tastes are so different and thank you for the comment, runrin!

I am wearing a 1944 18k. Omega bumper. It is in beautiful bumper watch. It is very accurate. If you looked at, you could not date it. It is 76 years old.

I was blown away when I saw these in the metal - pictures (and even videos more often than not) don’t do these pieces justice imo. I find them to be far more beautiful then their Rolex counterparts.

If only you could get a version with the cognac leather strap that comes with the Globemaster AC :/

I wonder where the name glovemaster comes from. is it a sub category of constellation?like aqua terra within seamaster?

just slightly too big for watches of this design. It would be perfect with 37-39 dial size.

Should have given it lyre lugs & got rid of the hideous fluted bezel (which ruins the watch IMHO) I like the pie pan dial, & put it leagues ahead of the fugly date just. Good vid, Cheers. Stay healthy everyone 👍🏻👍🏻

This is supposed to up against the Datejust and yet it is brushed. The Aqua Terra which is supposed to go against the OP and maybe DJ is polished to all hell. This is a great watch but needs more bling and a better bracelet (as does every omega).

Omega should start making their watch thinner, it's so bulky it looses the fineness of what constellation series were meant to be.

Dunno, I just don't like the watch. I think it is because of those curved? lugs. I like the lugs on the Nomos Tagente and hate the Orion. I can't explain it.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 года назад +2

It does borrow quite heavily from vintage influences and the case I'm sure would divide opinion. It looks very sixties/seventies in the way they curve around the dial. And talking about the Orion and Tangente, I feel the exact opposite to you, so it shows that our tastes are always subjective ;)

Where is gone the finesse of the previous Constellation line?
Too thick, too bold, too expensive.
    The Datejust 36 it’s a better bet.
