@@melbguy1 I have small wrists and I think the blue dial will wear a little smaller. I also really like the way the blue dial looks, and the pie pan dial might even stand out more on the blue but have not done a side by side. In the UK you can sometimes find the blue dial, gold bezel version on sale too which makes it an easier pill to swallow 😉

Thank you Bruce for a great review, as usual! Don't know why this beauty is so underrated and overlooked. Just picked mine today on bracelet, with the stunning blue dial. Ugh, I think I should have chosen this over the snowflake. It aggravates me how magnified any scratches are on my GS and therefore I don't wear it as often as I want. I like the design language of this and the scratch resistance is something I didn't know I would value so highly.

  • @jamespalsson746

    • @melbguy1
      @melbguy1 3 года назад +1

@@matthoffman6962 The Aquaterra is definitely a good value considering it's strengths, incl: the same Caliber 8900 METAS-certified movement, arguably superior band & screw-down crown. You don't get the tungsten carbide bezel or stunning pie pan dial, nor the more conservative looks however. So there are pro's and con's with both watches

The watch really is a beauty. But, with a name like Globmaster, it should have a GMT complication in my humble opinion. Tungsten would be a grail watch for me. I stay away from high polish watches, but would love to have a high polish watch made of tungsten with a high polish tungsten bracelet. Lum-Tec had at least one watch like that, but never made more. Tungsten is so hard it is cost prohibitive to machine.😨. It is also so hard it can shatter if dropped on a tile surface. Great review of a classy watch.😍

This definitely is my Grail Watch. I've searched a white dial watch for several years and first landed an a Rolex OP39. But, it was impossible to find at an AD and I wasn't willing to pay 10% - 20% above MSRP on the grey market. Sadly, I gave up trying to obtain an OP39 or Datejust. Its so close to being perfect! if only it had a brushed non-fluted bezel. That plus a GMT would just about make me collapse.

@@jamessymington2466 I've seen it in person and the bezel for sure never struck me as being as bad as the datejust especially with that simple but gorgeous case.
However now that I'm seeing it in other videos, the bezel on the GM now does seem to initially hit me more as a textured bezel/flattened coin edge bezel than as a fluted bezel.
Honestly I love that case SOOOOOOO much that if I can manage to change my mind on the bezel a bit more then it's a done deal. Looks like my AD will be seeing me a lot more than usual in the future!

Funny you say it is more in the realm of a sports watch, where to me it seems much more dressy than a diver or chronograph. I think we agree that it is a gorgeous piece, and if there is one watch I'd prefer in blue, it is that pie-pan.

  • @Pulsonar
    @Pulsonar Год назад

The Globemaster is a beautifully executed yet elegant and discreet watch design with strong tool watch qualities. My only gripes is the high price,(Tungsten is difficult and expensive to machine), that ‘pie pan’ dial might be a constellation model signature but I don’t like it, and lack of screw down crown. Apart from that I’m wandering what has Rolex OP or Datejust got that the Globemaster hasn’t got? It’s still a winner to me despite the gripes.

Has anyone else noticed the dial on the GM seems to be off-centre? I noticed it on my own and now see it in every review video. Pause at 1:26, 3:50, 9:03 and you will see a slight step down on the outer right edge of the dial just before it meets the case. This step slowly disappears as you move around the dial (you can see it disappear at 9:03) and is not visible on the outer left edge. Mine has the same issue but the step is visible on the outer left edge. Considering sending my watch back to Omega but seems they all have the same issue - strange.

Please hear me out. We all know that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. But if you can be objective then you clearly see why this model is not popular. It is not an integrated design but rather individual design elements standing out with no cohesiveness.
However with a few tweaks, Omega can completely create a masterpiece. I would make it for the unisex market and make it a classy/dressy allrounder.
Here is what I would do.
    1) I would reduce the dial size. This is more important because the bezel looks too narrow.
    2) I would make the bracelet a fraction narrow and give it some tapering. The link design is lovely. I would maybe make the link a bit smaller (vertically) in small increments. This will add links and give the bracelet a silk smooth flow and hug the wrist (again sticking with the unisex theme)
    3) points 1 & 2 will also open up the ‘unisex’ market
    4) The hands are too narrow. I would completely redesign the hands. It is too simple with zero thought given to the design
    5) I would make the piepan design a bit more subtle. Perhaps make it as a textured dial in a pattern that compliments the bezel.
    6) The butterfly clasp sucks. I have it on my AT and it is the weakest link in both this watch and the AT
    What i won’t change
    1) the brushed elements
    2) the design of the links
    3) the vintage omega logo
    4) the movement (but i would make it a bit more prominent in the marketing)
    5) white dial and maybe a silver dial
    What do you guys think?

BJORN M I don’t agree with some of your points Bjørn. One reason I steered well clear of the DJ 41 is because the bezel is fractionally too wide and looks out of whack (although nicely proportioned in the 36). Another thing is that the pie-pan is often invisible - particularly on the white one - so any more subtle and you needn’t even bother having it. But then I am partial to them having bought two in white and blue! :-)

The end links are not very good integrated: there is a gap between the end link and following link of the bracelet, inner side attachment of the end links is bad made, compared to the Seamaster bracelet integration.

I bought the Chrome dial SMP after your review, I knew I was getting it or the Black and White but you closed the deal for me, and with either money I saved just on colors I bought a custom fitted Tux! But my idea on the SMP is slightly different than yours, I think it’s a dress watch..... the Toughest Dress Watch made but I think it’s just gorgeous in a suit and really shines, it’s it’s natural home.

My only complaint is the bracelet design. Just doesn’t seem to fit the rest of the watch IMHO.

In full honesty, I love discovering new watches and having designs grow on me but this one just doesn’t work for me... I am looking forward to seing one in real life and hopefully have my mind changed

I can see why it rationally makes sense. I can also see that I absolutely not like it. I would never spend anything close to that amount for a watch with that design. But hey, it's my taste.

I love the design and movement on the Globemaster, but I feel it heavily overlaps with the Aqua Terra in terms of its intended use.

A lovely watch, but rado do a tungsten carbide bezel on the diastar range and don't charge anywear near omega prices. I own a rado original diver, and can testify that it's not scratched at all on the bezel. Even old rado models look like new because this material is so tough. Maybe you should check rado out Bruce ?

@@BruceWilliams , oh yes I've seen the captain cook reviews, I've a chance of getting the 37mm with the brown sundial curved face, but just feel it might be a tad small for me. I know they do bigger faces but I love the dial on the 37mm one. I might wait for the new seiko spb143 to 149 series to come out, because I bought the 051 which I bought because of your superb review, and because it's such a beautiful watch. So I'm eager to see these new seikos, can't wait.

Does it wear bigger than 38.5mm? The only reason I haven’t been considering it is the size. My wrist usually needs 41mm .

Nice watch no doubt. I think it's probably such a well kept secret as Omega would have a hard time pushing advertising on a flutted bezel watch. Regardless of Omega's long history of using such design queues, in today's market the flutted bezel is really only synonymous with one brand.... Just my guess though.
