    This was exactly the comparison I was faced with! Eventually pulled the trigger on the Globemaster. It has been amazing and the precision engineering of the bracelet surpasses the aqua terra. One of my pain points on the aqua terra was lume; lack at the 6 o'clock marker and no lume along the minute hand...

    • @underachievingwatchcollect1878
      @underachievingwatchcollect1878 4 года назад +2

      Yeh the minute hand and no adjustment on the fly bracelet keeps me from buying the Aqua Terra!

    • @milesa-c3865
      @milesa-c3865 3 года назад +1

      Yes, the lume has stopped me getting one too. Although at least with no lume at 6, you can tell the time. Just sold a seiko alpinist because all the lume pips were identical. So in the dark in the middle of the night, you cannot orient the watch to accurately tell the time!

  • @ewhip17
    @ewhip17 4 года назад +14

    I like both of these and have owned a couple of Aqua Terras. To me, the only thing keeping these from going from "very good" to "great" is the lack of a quick adjust on the bracelet. At the end of the day that's why I sold both of my ATs. Add that and I'm back in for sure.

    Both are gorgeous watches imo. I do own the 8900 blue aqua terra so I’m biased toward the AT. However, if I would have looked more into the globe master when making my decision, it might have been a bit more difficult. I prefer the aqua terra now tho for a couple reasons. There’s a color variant for everyone. And I may be way off w/ thinking this, but I kind of see the aqua terra as being a tad more sporty but capable of being worn in basically any other occasion. Whereas I see the globe master leaning a tad toward the dressy side with the ability to be worn on any other occasion. That’s just my interpretation on the 2.
    I’m not formal at all so I like the AT better. Both gorgeous tho.

  • @wristwatch_holic9722

    Nice comparison video, Bruce! Between two, I will go for AT. More sporty and casual, lower price. If I wanted to have a dress watch, I will go for JLC Master control, Reverso, or IWC Portugueser. I have both Omega and Rolex. I have similar DJ36 silver dial similar to the globemaster. I hold both watch in the same time but definitely win for DJ. Its white gold fluted bezel is fantastic, jubilee bracelet is very comfortable compared to oyster bracelets or Omega’s. It also has 70 hrs power reserve so when I take it off on Friday night after work and put it back on Monday morning, it still running with accuracy. 👍🏻

    The blue Globemaster is at the top of my list.
    I love Omega and Grand Seiko. Both have beautiful designs and movements that draw me to them. But they both have same shortcomings for me: sometimes too big or too thick, odd lug width, flawed bracelets, and too many variations of each model. With that said, they’re both still bang for buck which is another reason that draws me to them. I would love to be the CEO of these brands and just make those little tweaks to make them better. Well, for me at least.

  • @Psysso

    The globemaster is more versatile and a perfect everyday piece. It is also a tougher watch judging from the brushed surfaces and tungsten element added. Also its dimensions seem more geared towards fitting the bill for every dress occasion
    .I think i might just go for it as my first luxury piece.

      @@chulkcha There are pro's and con's to both. The GM has a better bezel (Tungsten carbide) and imho a better dial (incl: better lume), whilst the AT is sportier and has a screw down crown and more dial options to choose from. I already have a tool dive watch with rubber & steel straps to swap out, so I don't really need another one

    I had to choose between the two as my first luxury watch for my 40th birthday but the cyan blue aqua terra with the blue seconds hand. I ended up getting the globe master blue dial with bracelet, which had a discount and was actually cheaper than the AT. I like the brushed bezel better and all in all a great watch. One note to be said though is that even though the globemaster is supposedly smaller at 39 vs the AT’s 41 the AT actually wears a tad smaller due to its pivoted endlinks. I totally agree with all the suggestions that were made to improve these watches from great to perfect.

    I think you kind of missed the point when you called these watches alternatives for a first luxury watch. While that's certainly true for the AT, the often overlooked Globemaster could serve much better as the exact opposite. It could be the illusive exit watch for many seasoned collectors.

    I think the GM might technically be the better watch, with its impressively lumed dial and really cool tungsten bezel, not to mention being noticeably thinner despite using the same calibre 8900.
    Unfortunately, I'm a massive sucker for the standard lyre lug Omega case profile, which is enough to make me prefer the AT (if they had the same case I'd probably prefer the GM). The cost savings are also appreciated, although not that important to me once you get to these prices (if you've already saved $5K, you can probably save another fairly easily).

    Screw down crowns are a deal breaker. Though I don't think that's what Bruce meant, for me if the watch is so poorly made that it requires a screw down crown to be waterproof to 100m, I'm not interested... 30m watches give me the same vibe, there's just no excuse for that in 2023.
    Omega should make a non-automatic version of this watch so that it would be slimmer, then I'd be sold. The hight is what lets the Globemaster down and it's the perfect watch for those of us who appreciate getting hands on with our watches. Of course Omega would have to develop a worthy mechanism to make the hand winding experience compete with the likes of GS...

    If the GM had a screw down crown the AT would be in serious trouble.

    Great video, Bruce!
    I (27) have a question regarding two luxury watches for my first (and probably only) watch:
    Keep in mind that I like both of them equally...
    1. Omega Aqua Terra (Green dial/ 4.900€ new)
    2. Grand Seiko Snowflake (4.800€ new)
    Which one would you recommend? Or better said: Which one has more "bang for the buck"? I know that it is more of a personal preference, but at this point I probably need a nudge in a direction :) :)
    Thank you and keep it up!
    Greetings from Germany!

      If it was my own money I would rather spend it on the Omega myself. But with these two there is no wrong answer and like you said it is personal preference

    How much is it to maintain an omega in this price range?

      Omega charges $550 USD (plus taxes and shipping) for a service on the 8900 movement, every five to seven years.

    I think the aqua terra is a bit more sexy, but I worry about it getting marked up....the globemaster is built like a truck

    I find the AT kinda ugly. The Globemaster looks great.

    I own the black dial Railmaster that’s basically a satin AT, with a different dial. Currently saving for the Globemaster. I think they’ll make an excellent 2 watch collection.
