I was wearing my own Globemaster (silver dial) when I saw this video pop up tonight, so of course I felt massively validated! I frankly can't understand why this watch isn't more popular. Without even mentioning the impressive technical specs, it's really a victory of design and balance. Even the fluted bezel is more restrained than Rolex's, which makes the watch (somehow) both sporty and elegant without a hint of gaudiness. I'm embarrassed to admit I can almost imagine buying the blue dial as well, and even the Sedna gold version sort-of calls to me. Then again, my kids need to have shoes!

I owned a Globemaster exactly like Teddy's for a year or so. It really is a beautiful watch. It had a couple shortcomings that ultimately led to its sale: (1) anti-reflective coating is on the outside. It scuffed in a couple places, and I eventually removed it completely (that was a project). (2) the biggest issue is the bracelet: I couldn't get the right fit, and there's a gap between the end links and the rest of the bracelet when it's on wrist if your wrist is below about 7.25" in diameter- you can see it in Teddy's video too. The bracelet just doesn't 'drape' well unless you have a wrist larger than mine. (3) Finally, it's a bit on the thick side for a dress watch. It's fine with a large shirt cuff, but at the time, I had pretty tight cuffs, and it wouldn't go under them easily. I would love a version with a redesigned bracelet; I could live with the other issues (thickness & AR coating) if that was solved, as I like it on the strap, but it's most versatile on the bracelet. Also, the two-tone Sedna Gold version on a strap, if still available, is stunning.

That's a nice surprise, Teddy: my only personal experience with Omega was with a Speedster Pro I had (for a while, anyway..ended up missing some years later), but I developed a love for early Constellations, and your choice is stellar: the pie-pan dial never gets old, and I wondered just *how* the bezel on yours looked pristine among the scratches on the case (respect for seriously *wearing* that watch, too). That one's clearly a keeper for you. Thanks for sharing that.

I agree 100% Teddy. Got mine about a year ago for a significantly reduced price due to it's lack of popularity. I had my name in for a Rolex and I found this one while I was waiting. Yep forget the Rolex I love it. Modern movement and materials meet a beautiful vintage design plus throw in George Daniels. Fortunately the bracelet fit with help from my local watch guy is not a problem. I do think a better system for adjustment would be a great addition. Some had complained the crown wasn't screw in but here I'm a contrarian. I've had more problems forgetting to screw in the crowns or getting them cross threaded. For a every day all a round, quality watch, from a good company that will be around, at reasonable price I think you would be hard pressed to find a equal. Thanks Teddy and congrats on your continued success!!!

    @finsgutus Год назад +4

I was watching so many of your videos desperate to find Globemaster content some years ago when I was buying one. I thought I must be crazy for thinking it's the best watch available within any reasonable price range for someone who works for a living. I'm so happy to find this video where you highlight the awesomeness, totally agree on all the points! I also have the blue on steel with the bracelet (I absolutely adore the look of the bracelet, thankfully it fits me perfectly). Ended up with Globemaster after they discontinued the De Ville Hour Vision again (it was briefly available with the same Caliber 8900 and beautiful blue on steel, somewhat vintage-ish style, but sold out before I could get one). I now find the Globemaster superior to any other Omega as well as the somewhat comparable Rolex Datejust (I dislike the cyclops as well as their bracelets, also the bezel award goes to Globemaster IMO). One thing that keeps amazing me about this watch is the lume which looks unbelievable in low light.
I don't think this one is too thick, but the one with the calendar complication definitely was uncomfortable to wear (maybe I just need to buff up my wrist?). Also the watch nerd in me can't get over how cool the co-axial escapement is, while the frugal consumer in me is happy for the extended service interval. Retail price for the Globemaster has gone up by 2000 € here while I've owned it, and I bargained like a pro at the dealer, so I guess I was lucky to get it early.
One could consider the "unpopularity" a plus since at least you're a bit original choosing the Globemaster over the overhyped watches that are featured everywhere. Then again I think this marvellous timepiece deserves a bit more attention, which you appropriately give in this video. Also, as you put it in your other video, it is a watch that can pretty much do it all: serious enough for business, fancy enough for celebration, not too dressy for everyday beating. It can take shocks, scratching, diving, magnets, anything - a one-watch collection.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm just so in love with this understated and elegant watch and am never selling mine. It's a keeper.

Fantastic watch, & many times I've nearly bought one. However, I think the Aqua Terra design is more successful in the thick cases these automatic co-axial movements require. A thinner, smaller automatic co-axial movement would be a great expression of Omega's watchmaking. If the Globemaster case & bracelet were a bit smaller & thinner, similar to the new Moonwatch changes, I think it would stand out more from the Aqua Terra line AND better evoke the historical Constellation models. The AT could separate itself further by bringing back the asymmetrical case/crown guard, which IMO is more appealing & distinctive of the brand.

I love the Gobemaster with the blue/teal pie pan dial. I've had mine for some years now on the Omega leather strap. If I fall on hard times this will be the last one that would be sold. I love the date at 6, the finish on the movement and the comfort on the strap. Maybe at some point I may consider sourcing the bracelet but for now I love it as it is, It's elegant without being bling, it's sporty enough without being too out there and it can be worn with jeans and t shirt or s suite. I'm OK that they are not everywhere but I have to agree that they appear to be overlooked in the Omega family. The dial is a work of art.

Great review Teddy! I absolutely love the Globemaster. I have had my opaline silver dial Globemaster since 2018, and it's been been on my wrist everyday since then. I completely agree it's the most underrated and overlooked Omega, and I'm really glad you are championing it with a really comprehensive review, as this watch really deserves it. Beyond all the impressive specs, like you point out, it's really versatile... I wear it with everything from more formal wear to a band shirt, jeans and combat boots.
I think unlike the Datejust which comes across as more glitzy due to the larger planes of it's fluted bezel, the coin edge bezel rides the line between glitz and a more industrial aesthetic, almost like the teeth of a gear, and I think this plus the brushed finish lends it to be more of a chameleon. BTW, even though the GM has been compared with the Datejust a lot in the past, and I have seen your comparison of the two, I'm really glad that you didn't mention the Datejust, as I think the GM really deserves to be seen on it's own merits, as opposed to an alternative to another watch. Omega was not copying Rolex with the fluted bezel, was some people who don't know the history of Omega have suggested, as Omega explored the coin edge bezel as early as the beginning of the 1930s on their pilot watches... though rounded as opposed to flat, the size and style of the fluting on these early Omegas were virtually the same size and style as the fluting on the GM.
Again, great review of a very special watch.

Got the Globemaster (blue dial) as a wedding gift, so it will never leave the collection. Every few months it makes it back onto my wrist and I fall in love all over again.

I honestly hope you can still look down & see the watch and wedding ring.

I love it. Well done. The silver is on my radar. Admittedly, the blue shows off the unique dial better. I purposely avoid the boutique near my business. Soo many compelling choices....

Teddy, you must be a man after my own heart. My first vintage watch was a 1969 Omega Constellation 168.029 in a sunburst slate dial. It was the most beautiful watch I’d ever seen. I got it for a steal in near mint condition, minus the crystal but Otto Frei hooked me up with a period replacement (no magnifier). It set me off into my love of watches-and steel/gray dials. Eventually, I bought a Rolex 116000 steel dial OP and that was my daily for a couple years when Omega announced this Globemaster. It was all of my fears of wearing that vintage Connie around water made right along with all of these modern achievements-along with the heritage of that beloved C-case watch being honored which I took to heart. It’s still the most accurate mechanical watch I’ve ever owned (+1.3 avg). I did eventually sell it a couple years ago. But I miss that absolutely gorgeous dial and throwback bezel all the time. (My only con of the Globemaster wasn’t the size of the bracelet, but the fact you couldn’t lay it flat. It made me think I was hurting it by laying it down on the bracelet. Thoughts on that?) Anyway, I did wish they’d made a grey sunburst dial variant, aside from the $41K platinum version, still what an option! I now wear a 41mm gray dial AT with the blue hands and markers that feels like a nod and homage to the blue dial of my once beloved Globemaster (the same 8900 movement was also a big attraction). That Globemaster was a hell of a watch that travelled with me across the pond a few times. Probably the classiest Omega available. Wear it in good health! Dave

Teddy, you forgot to mention the great lume of the Globemaster. It is better than the one of the Aqua Terras by the way. I wear my own blue dialed GM right now - and am happy, that its appreciation seems to hold or even increase amongst the watch crowd. Regarding versatility: I bought mine with the leather strap and don't regret it, never liked the heavy bracelet, although its look is impeccable. I wear mine with multiple Hirsch leather and Performance straps or C&B nato straps (use some bent spring bars because of its short lugs!). In this combination the GM is more a high end field or pilot watch than a dresser, love it. I have owned many Omegas and other brands, the current GM - for me - is one of the top 3 watches ever made and the most interesting and desirable present Omega. Enjoy yours!

Excellent review, Teddy, as always. Totally agree this is a sleeper. From aesthetics through specification of movement and components, to respect for brand history, this is the top of the tree. I went for the gold and SS option with opal dial. It oozes subtle class, not 'in your face' grandstanding. If only I could justify adding the blue dial with tungsten bezel version!

I actually bought this watch a couple of years back. I loved it at first but then I just couldn't connect with it as much as I hoped. I gave it to my dad and he wears it now with joy. Funny, how time in this hobby makes us develop our horological taste buds progressively.

Teddy you should make a video about some good hand-wound watches. I personally prefer them to automatic watches (especially ones with screw-down crowns) because it's much easier for me to just spend a few second winding them up than having to worry about wearing each watch around for a while if I want to keep them all running simultaneously.

My 1977 Omega Constellation (quartz) in gold is my favorite! It was gifted to me from my good friend Tim. With a new battery (+ adapter) the watch keeps perfect time and looks sharp! Thanks for this video presentation.

Great review! One tidbit you forgot to mention is Gerald Genta's influence on this design. The C case which this is an evolution of was one of the key features that helped propel Genta to more world renoun (this design came before the royal oak) 😁

I have been wanting an Omega watch for a few years now and just can't pull the trigger. I go back and forth from the seamaster collection to the speedmaster. Looking at dial colors, function, water resistance, thickness of the watch, pretty much every aspect you can think of. This is one I have not considered until now, my only concern with it is the bracelet. I have a larger wrist and would have to try this on before purchasing. Great video, keep up the good and useful content.
