  • Опубликовано: 28 апр 2019
  • In today's luxury watch review, I finally get my greedy, horological, white-gloved mitts on a watch I have been dying to review since it came out in 2014. In this video I discuss the history of Omega's premier line of watches and take a closer look at the Constellation Globemaster (Ref. 130.33.39.21.03.001). I explain why their current watch is not only their most underrated, but perhaps the only truly superior watch in almost every way to the offerings of its main rival Rolex.
    Join me as I investigate what makes this watch so exceptional. Are there are any negatives to be found this time, and is this possibly the ultimate Omega? Let’s find out!

    Wow that looks good on you there Lad! Lovely and well done, Tristano. I have 2 vintage constellations. I coveted the pie pan 20 years ago as a “grail”. I’m happy to say I was able to procure and still own a 1960s model in stainless, champagne dial and beads of rice bracelet. It’s an elegant watch. at only 35mm it’s a bit lacking by current standards size-wise, but it makes no difference to me. I still love it. I barely know it’s on while wearing it. My other Constellation is a rose gold cap waffle dial from the 1950s. It’s a bit beat up but I adore it and will never part with it. I’m a bit dismayed at the price of this watch though. I agree that a vintage constellation is much more value for the money. I’m into the jumbo manual wind 38mm cal 265, etc these days. Well done! Cheers!

    Great review. I've had the white dial on strap version since summer 2016. I wear it five days a week for work, with a suit, and it's very robust. I've inevitably bashed it a few times against door frames, escalators, and once dropped it on a marble floor, and it still looks great (you'll notice dents if you look very close). The tungsten carbide bezel is tough as nails. Gains no time at all when fully wound. Still within all the Master Chronometer specs. Was going to trade it in for a JLC ultra thin moonphase, but I consider the Globemaster a tool watch in terms of being a robust watch you can wear with a suit. I'll buy the JLC in a year or so once I've saved up, but I'll still rely on the Globemaster given it's harder than Arthur Shelby.

    I just bought my first luxury watch since starting a collection a year ago. The watch is the Omega Aqua Terra with the 2500 movement, black dial (no teak planking design), 39mm. I have 6 1/4" wrist, just like TGV! It fits great. Unfortunately, my watch budget is spent into 2021!! Interestingly, after having this Omega, I don't actually feel the need to collect again for awhile. The $$ is well worth it!!

      I completely agree. I have the watch too, and it’s perfect on my 6.2” wrist. Trick is to either wear it on the bracelet, or a non Omega strap, as the Omega strap follows the contours of the case and is hindered from being folded completely down, which ends up flaring our, making the watch feel larger on a small wrist. But I agree, the watch isn’t too big for a small wrist.

    Looks like a winner. The watch's name recalls the Globemaster airplane--either the current jet, or the cool fifties prop version. My decade-old Seamaster Aquaterra looks similar, with the brushed blue sunburst face and presentation back. It even has the co-axial movement. Oh, I recently had it serviced by Omega, and it came back looking new, and it is super accurate. I put a Nato strap on it to save the expensive leather deployment strap--you might consider this for the Globemaster as well. Anyway, TGV gives us a fine review of a fine watch. Thanks!

    Nice. Based upon many vids, some being yours, I just got a Hamilton Jazzmaster Black Face 42mm Day-Date H-40 that looks much like that. I started at the Rolex (unattainable) Day Date Presidential, and worked down to the Omega Aqua Tera. Being the sensible guy I am, I looked further and found the Hamilton. Very pleased with it. Sword hands, dagger hour marks, this beast absolutely gleams! Its pure killer, and the day window at 12 is the icing on the cake. The engineers bracelet looks very much like your Breitling. I even got the nod of approval from the classy old gent who fit the bracelet. I wouldn't have found it without your help. Thanks ever so much! (+2s/d)

    That’s the first luxury timepiece I bought. Kept an eye out for it and finally got it in 2018. I bought it on the bracelet, which is beautiful like armor, and got the leather strap with the deployment. Till this day I always get a smile when I look at.

    Awesome watch but I can’t help thinking....
    Why do omega make a 42mm seamaster when they can clearly get the in-house movement into a smaller case.
    A 40mm seamaster would be the one.

  • @CrimFerret

    It's a really nice looking watch. It would be a little too dressy for me as a daily wear watch and I've never been a huge fan of fluted bezels. Tungsten carbide is an interesting material to make it out of and being able to polish it like that is pretty impessive. I am saving for an Omega, but it's the Seamaster 300, a watch I also consider a Rolex killer.

    Great episode! You do an outstanding with the history and backstory on watches and their manufacturers which is great.
    Question: Could you do an episode if you haven't already on the movement the modern datejust has in it verses this Omega movement....to me and this is just my humble opinion but in many ways Rolex reminds me of the watch version of BMW...they have great brand recognition and people sense a status accomplishment if they own one but bimmers are no longer built mechanically with longevity in mind and their motors break down after 100k miles with severe costly repairs. I feel rolexes look great but in comparison to several brands that are less expensive with the similar horological history they don't seem to pack the same punch under the glass.

    Omega offers such an almighty massive line of individual watches. I’m not sure why the wouldn’t offer this in a 36, it’s seems like an obvious need. I could wear this or the larger version, but to my eye, the 39 is an easy choice for this given it’s got a dressy side to it.
    Easily one of their greatest watches to this day.

    • @Area_man115
      @Area_man115 6 дней назад

      Another reader posted Omega can’t fit the movement into a 36.

    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 6 дней назад

      @@Area_man115, that doesn’t mean much given they typically use a different movement whenever they change sizes of a given watch, as do most watch makers. Look around, look at any company offering the same watch at three different sizes and you’ll find three different movements pretty much every time.
