- Easy Chickpeas Curry With Potatoes - Quick Aloo Chana Masala Recipe - Quarantine Cooking
I have some cans of chickpeas so I thought of cooking chickpea curry with potatoes also known as aloo chana masala in India. You can follow this same recipe using any kind of canned beans.

Ingredients required for making chana masala recipe - serves 5 to 6
* One can of garbanzo beans(chickpeas) - 15.5 oz
* Potatoes - 2 large / 330 gm / 12 oz
* Onion - 1 medium/ 3/4th cup finely chopped
* Grated Ginger - 2 teaspoons
* Grated Garlic - 1 teaspoon ( 2 large cloves)
* Canned tomato puree - 4 tablespoons. You can even use 2 medium tomatoes. Keep them in hot water for a while, then peel and puree in a blender. If using tomato paste use just 2 tablespoons
* green chili- 1 ( optional)
* 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
* Kashmiri red chili powder - 1 teaspoon (adjust according to your preference). Remember Kashmiri red chili powder is mild compared to red chili powder but it still has some heat which can still be overpowering for some people. You can even use paprika or a combination of paprika and cayenne pepper.
* Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
* Curry powder - 2 teaspoons heaped
* Garam Masala Powder - 1/4th teaspoon . Check out the recipe for homemade garam masala powder- • HOW TO MAKE BENGALI GA...
* Sugar (optional) - 2 teaspoons
* Salt - to taste
* Oil - 3 to 4 tablespoons
Serve this with poori, roti, naan, rice or even a toasted bread

Thank you Bumbi! It was delicious. I've always loved eating curries, but not being much of a cook, I figured I would leave that part to the professionals. But today I cooked one myself for the first time! So simple even I couldn't mess it up. I will check out your other recipes now.

Thanks for leaving a comment Diane.
Thank you. Lovely recipe.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for sending your feedback 🙏🏾
Very grateful for this recipe, Bumbi. I tried it last night (minus the cumin seeds and the ginger, which I didn't have) and I was delighted with the results. I first came across this dish in 2012 in Sudder Street Calcutta. I used to have it for breakfast in one of the street stalls, together with chai, fried egg and toasted bread - delicious! One positive about lockdown is that my cooking is becoming more adventurous, and I have added quite a few things to my repertoire. I am looking forward to trying out some of your other dishes soon. Kind regards to you!
I am so happy you liked the recipe. Thanks for your kind words. Great to hear that you’ve been to my beloved home place Calcutta. I miss my lovely city. “toasted bread” = toast 🍞

Glad you found it. Thanks
tripled the recipe and made this for some friends last night and everyone loved it, thank you for the recipe
So happy to hear that. Thanks for your feedback 🙏🏾
This is my new favorite chickpea recipe. Thank you. I made it yesterday afternoon and I'm now enjoying my third serving with basmati rice this morning for breakfast! I think the fried potatoes really make this dish and I was fortunate to have all of the ingredients on hand including the fresh ginger and cilantro, which I usually have but not always. I'm not a vegetarian but I will be looking for your daal recipes today...
I am so glad you liked it. Thanks for your feedback 🙏🏾
Thank you so much! Great video! I can wait to make this myself.
Thanks for your lovely comment. Please do send me your feedback after trying out the recipe. Take care 🙏🏽

This curry is amazing! My boyfriend and I made it yesterday and mostly I was just screaming of enthousiasm! (he just cashually liked it). Thank you so much for this recipy, it's easy and I didn't even have to go to the supermarket for it, which I really like. I am definately going to put this in my routine of recipy's!
So happy that you liked it so much. Thanks for sending your lovely feedback. I appreciate it. Please do visit my channel page playlist for more recipes.

You have a lovely gentle voice & explain simply!
Thanks for your kind words Kiran.
My first experience enjoying curry was in south Florida back in 1976. Aloo Chole was my first. I fell in love with it and learned to cook my own dishes, as many as I could. Even worked in a restaurant named Taste if India. Thank you for this wonderful video. I can never stop learning more. When I cook Indian dishes for my friends they freak out, they all love.
So glad to hear you like Indian cuisine. Thanks for leaving a lovely comment 🙏🏾

I hope you like it. Thanks for your time in leaving a comment 🙏🏾
I know this might sound silly - Mark did you grow up in India? Chasnalla? Just asking 😃
@@careyemartin7781 Hi Carey. Sorry. I just got this message. No I have never been to India.My Irish Aunt married a man from Kashmir. So I had a half-Indian cousin. Sadly no longer with us. I have a friend/colleague at the university where I work who is first generation Indian. But I've always liked Indian food. I am also very interested in Indian history. I don't think many people in the UK have an accurate account of it.
Thank you for the helpful video!
Glad that you found my content helpful. Thanks for leaving a comment 🙏🏾
Thank you Bumbi another delicious recipe to look forward to, I like the chick pea ones, as I am not a fan of tofu.
Glad you liked it.
Thank you! I'm going to try this today!
May your channel flourish!
Thanks for your beautiful comment. I really appreciate it. Please send me your feedback after trying the recipe. Take care.🙏🏾
@@CurriesWithBumbi I made it! Excellent flavor! Delicious! I had to go to my local Indian grocery store to purchase some garam masala (since I didn't have that spice in my cupboards). I would remind anyone reading that many communities do have an Indian store, you just have to look it up! Thank you again for a wonderful recipe!
You made my day. I am so happy you liked it. Glad to hear that you have an Indian grocery store nearby. Nowadays Indian spices are even sold online though I always prefer going to my local Indian grocery store. Thanks a lot for sending me your feedback. Please do try my other recipes as well. Take care 🙏🏾
So easy to follow your cooking. This looks very tasty.
Please do try it and send your feedback. Thanks
I don't know if I've commented on this video before. I just have to tell you I cooked this last night and it was just amazing. My husband who's Indian was very impressed. This is the second time I cooked this recipe, substituting Kashmiri laal mirch with paprika.
I am so happy to hear that. Thanks for your feedback.
I’ve learned so much from only two recipes! Thank you so much.
I was also thrilled to see the stainless utility bowls with gradations and pouring lips! Alton Brown used ones like that in Season One of Good Eats and I was lucky enough to find 3 at a Tuesday Morning near me. I would love to know if they’re available in the US any more. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!
I have seen them online on Amazon
Bless your heart
Thank you 🙏🏾

Easy peasy
Yes it is 😀
This is a really nice, a quick meal I make for vegan friends. My preference is to add some spinach and a couple of black cardamoms (I like the smoky flavour).
Thanks for your feedback.
Hi Bumbi hope you are ok. I made your chickpea and potato curry, it was excellent, really enjoyed it. Will make it all the time.

Welcome to Curries With Bumbi. I am glad you are here. If you are making for kids then add very less chilli powder or just leave it out. Glad you liked it and thanks for your feedback

@@CurriesWithBumbi It came out great! Thanks for your recipe. I have saved it in my favorite!
@@robkeshav800 so happy to hear that. Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks for this lovely recipe Bumbi! I just adore your sweet, gentle, lilting Indian accent 🥰 🇮🇳 however, I couldn't find quantities listed anywhere in the description so had to guess 🤔🧐
Oh no Amy, I never upload a video without the ingredient list. You will notice a small down arrow on the right corner beside the video title. Click on it and it will open a box saying “more”below the box. Click on “more “ and the description box will open up.
Good recipe and wonderfully showed and recited. I prefer a drier one and so did not add as much water (which makes it a gravy/curry). But on the whole I used it and adjusted it for a side dish and not for the main gravy. I just subscribed and liked; even as a south Indian who doesn't care for North Indian cuisine. lol!
Welcome to the Curries With Bumbi family 🙏🏾. So very happy to hear you liked the recipe. Thanks for sending your feedback. Really appreciate it.
just made this for my 15 month old son, hopefully he likes it👍
I think this is the best comment I ever got since I started my RUclips channel!!!! For a 15 month old baby the chickpeas need to be cotton soft. Looking forward to hearing from you whether baby liked it or not . Thanks a lot for your lovely comment.
I made this recipe and it turned out excellent. It tasted even better the next day or am I imagining it? I also soaked the can of chickpeas with a teabag in warm water, which I discarded when I cooked the peas. Thank you for this recipe. I am going to try the chicken meatballs next time. I also like the fact that you remind us about how much heat to apply at every stage. Most videos assume we know the difference between cooking spices on high heat or low heat. I made a mess in the past trying to cook on med high heat when medium heat was required.
All curries taste better the next day. I am so glad you find my videos useful. Thanks for your feedback.
Thank you so much my family enjoyed. 🙌🏾😁
Thanks a lot for your time in sending a feedback. Really appreciate it. Always nice to know my work is appreciated. Please do visit my channel page for more recipes. Take care 🙏🏾

I will be making this one 100% although I don't like fresh coriander as all I taste is soap so will put parsley in instead 😁
Sure you can use parsley. Looking forward to your feedback.
Enjoyed your unhurried voice and low key, but High energy style & focus Bambi --- hope to make this soon. Thanks
