I changed the filter for 1st time today on my 2024 Duramax at 17,500 miles and used your video for reference. Only have a couple comments. Mine seemed much more difficult to break the filter loose. I had no dirt on my rag when I wiped it down and filter look like yours, could have been twins, Curious if original filter was dark instead of white, The torque printed on my cannister and yours is 25NM (Newton Meter), That actually converts to 18.43 ft.lbs. Again, video was very good and I still forgot to reset the guage.

In a diesel the fuel injectors spray directly onto the cylinder walls. Some of this fuel gets into the oil and degrades the oil. Changing fuel filter every 15k miles is critical as is adding a good fuel additive. This and changing your oil on a regular basis will do a lot for your diesel motor longevity.
I also have a 2024 Silverado duramax, and mine has a 11/16" socket on the bottom to drain...not the torx bit yours has...weird, I've done mine twice (35,500) and was double checking the priming procedure, nice video!
Hmm i have heard of there being a 2024 and a 2024 1/2 model i wonder if one of ours could be a 2024 1/2 maybe. i think you can tell by the 9th number in the vin.
Yes, changing the fuel filter on the L5P is crazy simple. It's like changing the oil filter, only easier! The toughest part is putting in the oil filter with the seal at the bottom. Amazon and Ebay sell aluminum housings if you crack your plastic OEM housing. Older models like the LML required you remove the right front passenger wheel well.
That looks easy enough. I think I’ll be able to do this when the time comes on my 2024 GMC 2500 Duramax. I’d wear gloves though. Thanks for the info and clear demonstration!
Just did this. Perfect video to help me do the project. Only difference for my Chevy 3500 was a 9/16 plug I had to remove to remove the case holding the fuel filter. Made draining the case easier, but one small additional step. Also, that plug doesn’t have a hard stop. Get it tight then stop turning. There are 2 o rings on that plug, should I replace those?

Here at Greico Chevrolet in Delray Beach Florida- the dealer wants over $400.00 to change this filter. This is right after I had to Flatbed my 2024 2500 HD to another Chevy dealership closer to where my truck broke down at a busy intersection because a sensor module went bad. I was stuck at a busy intersection for almost 2 hours before I could get a tow.
While watching you prime the fuel system, I noticed that your phone was connecting wirelessly to CarPlay in a matter of a few seconds. My wireless CarPlay on my 24 hasn't worked in months! I'm getting the software recall done tomorrow which seems to have mixed results; any problems with the system on yours? I must say, I love the trailer towing software built into the system!
@@jbjlock26 you know I actually had trouble with getting it to connect the other day and happen to come across a forum to complete reset the system and phone from your truck by holding down the mute button on the steering wheel until the display turns off and that ended up working for me hope that helps - I’m thinking that’s all the steps but search on google about the reset of the infotainment screen
Nice, appreciate the video. Will definitely do this on my own now that I see how accessible it is. One question I haven't researched yet is when I called my regular oil change/tire rotation place about changing out the fuel filter when I got those other two service done soon, they asked if I wanted both fuel filter changed. Is there another fuel filter that needs periodic replacing as well?

Very good video, but maybe you could show how to change the oil or how adaptive cruise control works. I have the same model, I can’t find the adaptive cruise control, I can’t turn it on.
@@mkorman01 I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt if you had some kinda similar to a oil filter.but the priming of the key will fill the cup before starting so either way would work
So much easier with the efh attachment. Extreme filter housing. Change with a CAT screw on and you don’t have to fuck with the inside filter style. Just like changing an oil filter
As far as I know. It will only prime once too, unless you wait for about a minute in between cycling the ignition. It’s typically pretty well primed after one cycle, but if you have issues you could do it again.
I noticed you didn't fill the fuel filter with new diesel. I was under the impression that that is the only way to go for injector's sake. Where's the gases go that were in the filter before the system primed? Is there an automatic bleed off valve before injectors or what?
Good question brother , from what I had researched on it no one had mentioned about that , but that’s some good thinking I suppose that would work better if you had some diesel fuel to fill the filter up first kind of like you would say for an oil change . I may try that next time !

They are side mounted so you can’t fill them like I normally do either. Anyways, he described the exact method you used in your video. I convinced you’re right here, but it leaves me scratching my head a little haha thanks for the video man!
You prime your fuel filter by turning on engine but not starting it, do that like 5 times and let it sit like 35 seconds each time' then start the truck, by doing that it's pumping fuel into the filter prior to starting.
@@shutup-sr4uc anyone that reads this, yep.. that’s how it’s engineered. Idk where the air in the line ahead of the fuel bleeds out but it surely does. Changed my own filter between my comments and everything works perfectly. About 1000 miles since the change. Also, PF63 works but is a smaller Delco filter. (A GM product) I didn’t look at what filter was used by a local shop when I paid for an oil change but it was much much larger. Point is, more than one style can work but I can verify PF63. Alright, keep it real fellas!
@@andrewd6565 i would say that would be something you would rarely ever do unless you were having some major fuel issues. That would be a major thing to get into having to take the bed off to access that im sure.
They charge part x2.. it’s not worth letting them do it. I drain water every oil change and filter every other. Clean Map Sensor every oil change will save ya a lil too. Havnt tried the Spacer for the Map sensor to see if it matters. Has anybody got one and compared build up with or without spacer?
Change it every oil change. This way ya get max performance and long-term use of your MINT DURAMAX. My 12 GMC Duramax i have to remove the wheel well plastic to get to the fuel filter. This is a job well done by GM. 17k miles is unacceptable in my book
LOL I had to laugh when he compared the old filter that is covered in diesel fuel to a new one out of the box. What did he expect it to look like? And yes wear gloves.
Little but of a tip fellas. Take some all purpose grease from your grease gun and rub outer o ring with it. You will thank yourself on the next filter change

Fuel filter housing is 25.5 Nm... not lb ft.
25.5 Nm = 18.81 lb-ft ( rounded )
What size tires you got on the truck I have the exact same truck trying to find out if 35x12.5 will fit without any mods
What do you do with the drained fuel? Just put it back in the truck? I know it isn’t much but obviously I can’t just dump it anywhere.
