Just a quick tip for anyone watching, push and hold the start button with foot off the brake until the button turns green and you will here the lift pump prime the filter, repeat a couple of times until you cannot hear the pump priming anymore. Cheers.
I don’t have push start. My 3500 requires key. I turn to ON position, then OFF and then to ON for a short bit whilst it primes and then to OFF or START
Turn your key to run leave on for a few seconds then back off. Then run then off then run then off. Do this about five or six times to fully prime. Then start. If it doesn’t start begin the prime process again.
Thanks for the video it sure helped a first-time diesel owner. Since 1976, I've owned either Chevrolet or GMC trucks. I'm in the process of restoration and rebuilding a 1964 Chevrolet C-10. I put a 283 in her. But I have to say this durmax diesel is the strongest thing to a team of oxygen.
For those that are watching and not sure if you can do this. Yes you can. I am not one that can work on vehicles but changed mine this week. It took less than15 minutes and was easy. Had to buy the socket and a drip pan. Paid maybe $25.00 for that. Seeing any where from $175-200+ to get this done. With the filter and tools spent about $80.00 so saved $100.00 plus. Changed at 11k miles and computer showed about 55% life. Thanks for the video, also watched others and all were good and helpful.
Where do you live? The socket and the wrench cost me $55 total. The fuel filter I bought at O’Reilly for 52.99. Total cost was $100 and I myself did the labor.
I took Special Ed Shop, in high school. The dealership wanted $250, to change the filter. I decided to see how difficult it would be, to do it myself. The hardest part was finding the socket! Unbelievable how simple this was! Thanks for the video!
I did this in about 10 minutes. I was really taking my time too. I am not a mechanic. I am a loan officer LOL. If I can do anyone can. I will never pay the dealer $120 for this again. Great video. I did use a 4" extension just for comfort. Not required.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video, I’m sure it was annoying trying to change the filter while holding the phone. I’ve got my first diesel and I don’t want to take it to any shops I want to do it all the work on my own
@@Jd-ql3nh I just went and sent it, it took a bit of time to start , some other youtuber said to just turn the ignition until it turned on. Worked fine
A 36mm wrench works as well as te 1-7/16. Also recharging was not discussed. Turn key or press button without putting your foot on the brake. You will here pump when it stops you are good to go.
You can take out the drain plug with a t30 bit and the fuel wil drain more neatly but be sure to replace it before you try to prime the system. How do I know :(
Damn they sure made that easier. My 2011 is not near that easy to change. A friend of mine is a GM master mechanic at a dealership and changes his every other oil change (about 10,000 miles). I change mine once a year/when the monitor shows 50%. GOTTA have clean fuel.
Two things you didnt mention. There IS a torque spec for the fuel filter cup and there IS a specific priming sequence to follow. Exactly the same on the LM2 3L.
It bottoms out not a major deal on the torque spec. Get it tight but don't be a dum a$$ and break as it's only plastic. The prime sequence is important though to avoid damage to the fuel pump, fuel sensor and fuel rail and fuel rail sensor
This is why you NEVER trust computer based filter minders. That one was WAAAAY past due. Your injectors have been starved for a good while and likely worn far beyond their age.
So when do you know it’s time to replace the fuel filter if you don’t use the computer reminder? Unlike an air filter, you just can’t pull it for inspection then reinsert. Curious how you know when? If the truck feels sluggish?

This is why I come to the comments. Thank you sir!
I was always wondering how to do that, the manual still says to turn the key 😂. And now I know how to get it in accessory mode👊

I’m the same way! The dealership wanted $250! When I saw how easy it was I really felt taken advantage of!

Just finished replacing fuel filter on 2500 .... thanks for video would have never attempted the change without your guidance

Same. I just got off the phone with a GM dealership and they told me $120 just for the fuel service. The oil change was cheaper!

I used the oil filter wrench, it’s a little tight for turning but works well
Should always prime after changing filters to prevent air being introduced into your pump. I usually do it 3-5 times. Thanks for the video
But how like nobody shows how on the key iginition 2020 - lp5 . Im trying to figure that out
@@mrsteel10213 i know the 2019s you have to turn the bleeder screw and there’s a manual pump to pump

Well done! Thanks for the video as I am now planning to do mine.
Huge help, saved in my favorites. Thanks for the info!!
How much does it cost to maintain a duramax, oil fuel transmission filters thanks
After I did this it keeps priming noise or air pocket
New to the duramax coming over from cummins. Is there not an engine fuel filter as well as a chassis filter?
i have a 2022 6.6 duramax mine will start without foot on brake how do i prime my filter
Thank you so much for making the video was really helpfull to me at the time I replace the fuel fillter
How do u reset the fuel filter light
Good video! I really wanted to see how much fuel would come out once the housing was removed, but it’s all good. I appreciate the tutorial
Does this filter also act as a water separator?
Thanks for the info. My 2019 is close to the same. The reset was a little different.
How do you prime it
Use a torx bit to drain the diesel fuel before lossining the whole yhing
What happen if your computer want reset?
where is the damn bleed screw at!?
Great video! Nice and precise instructions. Kudos
Does it have to be empty to change out???
No sir
It will have some as you unscrew it but that’s normal
What lift and wheel setup do you have
Nice work. Thanks for this video.

Super helpful, thanks for this!
What do you do with the diesel that you catch in the bucket?
Good for starting a bonfire in your back yard
Thanks so much. You did everything with one hand 😂
You might not need that 36mm socket. My 2021 has a smaller nut inside the 36mm that looks like you can use to loosen and tighten
That smaller nut just removes a drain plug, not the housing
Thanks dude! Very helpful
Awesome video. Thank you!
Wow, I can do this really it was that easy and I paid $150 or $180 the first time. So the 2 time I am doing this I will let my husband know. Gracias
Where are you getting diesel from? That's pretty dirty.
I drive all over bama but i try to get from shell. But i bought this truck with 12k miles on it already so who knows where most of the dirt came from.
Thanks, for the video.
Definitely works with a GMC Sierra 2020 3500 HD Denali
Thank you so much
Yeah dealer charged me 300.00 Not getting next time I’ll do it.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you sir!
what happen to the gmc truck
Duramax has a very easy oil and fuel filter change. It's criminal what they charge at the dealership.
You forgot to prime the filter before starting the engine
Hopefully this fixes the fuel mileage problem.
Damn Chevy look mean!
Wheels and tires look like ghetto special
There’s a torque spec for the filter housing right on it. Lol.
36mm not 33… just fyi

I saw red in that fuel!!!! Lol jk thanks for the video
