Key part you missed. You should press and hold the start button (without touching the brake peddle) for 20 seconds or until you hear the process. That is what actually initiates the self prime process. It is quite loud.
FYI, if you are buying OEM AC Delco parts for a GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade, buying them from the Chevrolet dealer is almost always cheaper and usually in stock. I found this out with oil filter and drain plug between GMC and Chevrolet dealers with my Yukon. The GMC dealer was out of stock so I went to the Chevy dealer across the street and saved a bunch and got what I needed. Unless the part is unique to the brand like a headlight or taillight they all use the same part number for the general maintenance parts like air filters, oil filters, oil...etc. Thanks for the great video MG!
I agree! Learned that the hard way. I was buying all my maintenance parts from Amazon, for example my oil. Amazon had the whole 7 quarts w/ oil filter for 90 dollars including shipping. Went to a Chevy dealership nearby and got it for just around 65 dollars.
Just wanted to say thank you, just did this tonight on my truck. Followed step-by-step. Was some funky noises after the first start up, but all seems to be normal now.
Thank you! Worked great on my 23 Yukon 3.0. Only thing I did different was hold down the start button for 5 seconds which primes the fuel pump /filter. You can hear it actively working. Other than that everything else went as you described.
My dealer tried to charge me $80 for the part. I found the exact GMC fuel filter online for $30…less if you buy in bulk. Takes less than 10 minutes. 20 minutes if you don’t know how to use tools. At 29,500 miles, the filter was filthy. I think changing this at 15,000-20,000 miles is probably a better idea.
Once removing the 36mm cap dont panic! It will leak diesel for about 5 minutes or less nothing major! Just did mine and I was like man what am I doing!! 😂
OEM filters are $70 some bucks. I wouldn’t trust a wix imo. My filter looked great at 25k miles with only a few visible particles. Wish I ran it longer but still cheaper diy than the dealer that wanted 180 for this 10 minute job. Also, a little grease on the big o ring helps the cartridge spin back up there nice. Without the o ring sticks from the diesel fuel. You definitely got a hold down the start button for 10 to 20 seconds you’ll hear at prime. Without it’s not priming.
Very informative video and I have watched several on how to change the fuel filter. My 23 Silverado has only about 10k on it and the fuel filter indicator still says about 62%, but the truck is 18 months old and I believe the manual says no more than 24 months and certainly not crawling under it in January. Some videos I have watched suggest using a torque wrench but from watching it looks like the cap just stopped when it was tight. I change the fuel filter on my Kioti diesel tractor without an issue but have been a little apprehensive in doing the truck until I watched your video. My local dealer in Canada wants something like $150 to change it and I am not paying that when I can do it myself. I am sure the first time it will take me a bit longer. I too am interested to see how dirty the filter is. Thanks again for posting the video.
Great, video that I will use as a first time diesel engine owner. Is there no valve or shut-off to close first so fuel doesn't leak, beyond the minimal in the filter? Do you use a fuel additive?
I have been buying my parts/oil at the dealership so it is in their computer system that I am using factory recommended parts & oil , I am at 10.000 miles now & this coming oil change will be replacing the fuel filter too
Well TECHNICALLY diesel is an oil so by definition its an oil burner. But no it doesnt consume any engine oil and has been rock solid for me. 30-35 mpg easily if I am not driving like a mad man. 23-25 mpg for very aggressive 85+ mph driving
I noticed you didn't hold the start button and I didn't hear the pump priming the filter. Confirm that it WILL prime without holding the start button down please. Also, were you going to play golf after the filter change?
Its very easy. Just 3-4 philips head screws to remove the top of the filter housing & a flathead to loosen the clamp on the intake hose. Separate the hose from the housing. The filter housing is held on one side by grooves to make sure its lined up correctly. I always make sure to remove any debris before installing the new filter.
There is a good one on RUclips now on 2020 to 2024 Silverado 3.0 Duramax, one screw was hard to unscrew because the engineers didn't allow enough room to work, uggh.
@@traviscrown9189 it should cost more than 10$ Amazon ac delco filters are fakes the real ac delco filter is made in Czech Republic and should cost $22-28 I do mine every 10k I wouldn’t go 30k as I have heard of them getting clogged and pulling in dirt at 30k.

Every 25k miles

Not pleased about that
Was that the dealer cost?
@@Myksgarage Napa Gold. Changed it myself. Probably another $100 if the shop got involved…..
Can you not order from Amazon? I paid $28 for an OEM ACDelco...
My exact thought I would never run a Napa filter on any diesel motor.
Careful with that Napa gold it could void warranty!
How tight do you tighten the housing back to? Anyone have a torque value?
🧐
18lbs
So its Ok to just tighten without torque wrench?
I did
Does anyone know the appropriate torque value?
Any issues with this engine?
Oil consumption?
Thanks
Zero issues and doesn't consume oil at all

Just for clarity, they did NOT move to the LZ0 for the 2024 model year. It's expected (but not confirmed) to be on the 2025 model year.

Why wait 2 minutes and 30 seconds? The fuel pump doesn't prime for that long, just a few seconds at best when you open the door.
