As much as Brian loved Freddie and his Queen brothers, I bet he loved doing this because it was HIS show and he got to show his true talent as a singer, player, and performer......at the beginning of LOVE OF MY LIFE, you could feel this great gentleman ready to cry.....Freddie is up in Heaven thinking, “Damn!! This guy is a hell of a frontman!!
I was at that concert and the wall of sound was unbelievable. First class band. No one plays this song like Cozy - true class and talent. And of course Brian is well... just a legend.
You watch him on stage you hear him play and sing, and you never think oh yeah he's an astrophysicist. He is such an intelligent man, a book publisher, 3D stereoscopic expert, animal rights activists, he just goes on and on.
Jack of all trades, an awesome guy all around he is, he deserves HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR, 2021, and this is probably the best song on this new released album, love the whole thing to be honest ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When I saw Brian May do this at the Edinburgh Playhouse the whole place went absolutely bananas. Cozy did the 1812 Overture for his drum solo, utterly magnificent.
Cozy did make a power drumming and Graham Bonnet sang it perfectly, the song was written by Russ Ballard but it is indeed Ritchie’s, Brian is a superb musician and we know he has a great admiration to Ritchie, this is a tribute
What a guitar solo! For me, Brian May is the best rock guitarist we've ever had. He's also an excellent songwriter. Almost all of Queen's legendary songs were written by him.
Never, never ever underestimate the total talent and professionalism of Brian May. A rock god, guitar, piano and an amazing voice. One of the all time best Thanks for reading
Wow... people from Whitesnake, Rainbow, Queen... playing a Russ Ballard's (and Ritchie Blackmore) masterpiece. And doing it great, as always. Thank you, Mr. May, for your music and this now far in time show. From another stargazer (although only amateur, in my case...)
Wow, i never realised Brian May has a voice as good as he has, as good as some, better than others, when in a band with the late great Freddie Mercury you are most always ever likely to be second best, there were not many who could hold a candle to him, and that fella had range, even when seriously ill he was still better than most, he proved he could adapt to any style, so sorely missed, R.I.P Freddie.
What a great version, so good live! Brilliant intro, terrific energy. The band is great, singers are incredible and Brian is awesome. Great song from Russ Ballard...
Such an amazing talent. Each and every member of Queen were amazing and could have gone on to individual careers in their own right. Together, they were legendary!
It's hard to compare Rainbow and Brian May. I give the edge to Brian because of the opening on the Hammond. Otherwise, two great versions. It was a great era for rock; long may it live!
It's worth noting that this is a direct copy of Rainbow's version of the song, not Russ Ballard's version. May is an unabashed fan of Ritchie Blackmore, it's nice to see him playing Blackmore's arrangement.
It's probably also worth noting that Brian was also personally responsible for the backing singers' choreography including even the 'freestyling' during the guitar solo... Cozy was attributed with their costume design...
I don't think it's an exact copy for a number of reasons: (1) Mr May and those two beauties share the lead vocal, not like Mr Bonnet in the original (2) The girls add a slightly higher and extended vocal line at the end of the refrain (on "ever since you've been goooone") (3) the guitar solo is slightly different (4) in the bridge Mr May wimps out of the high note. Therefore a version... but I agree it's very similar which is why I like it!
Simon Pieman however I respect mr May very much, he cant sing like bonnet, that's why he shared the lead vocal with two ladies... yes, there is something defference but I cant say that its a new version....
Gabe R. No. None of us are here. You just imagined it. Is there anything more annoying on RUclips than the people who always come up with different versions of “who is listening in…? “
Love Brian May so much. A gifted musician, songwriter, performer, activist, astrophysicist, and a true English gentleman too. And now a Knight of the Realm.
Cannot believe May. Where does he pluck his genius from? Yes, he doesn't quite have Bonnet's range, but my god, the man is amazing. Great song. Great cover. I like the fact there are women back up singers, different element to the original.
It's one of those songs with such a notable and outstanding hook, much like "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "You Really Got Me", it's not difficult for anyone to make it sound great. Good ol' basic rock-n-rolling riff. I'm guessing the audience was not expecting this after that spacey 2-minute long organ lead-in.
AHHHH, finally an equal version to Head's East, with the keyboards soaring, the back up vocals blistering, the guitars just on fire. Thank you so much Brian.
Awesome sound the band did a Great job! MAY VOCALS WERE GREAT *but GRAHAM BONNET VOICE JUST CANT BE BEAT*HE HAS THAT ROUGH KICK ASS VOICE THAT JUST ROCKS RIGHT THROUGH YOU*RAINBOW WAS A KICK ASS ROCKIN BAND*
Love, love, love it! Especially the dramatic keyboard intro! Very well done & I actually thought I was listening to Rainbow, when they kicked in with the vocals. Thanks for posting!
I fucking love Brian May. One of, if not the best guitarists/songwriters of all time performing a cover version exactly how the song was originally written by Ritchie. Complete respect without ego.
Except that neither Ritchie Blackmore or anyone in Rainbow wrote this song. The writer is Russ Ballard and the song was written in 1976. It's been covered by a band called Head East, a girl band called Clout and of course Rainbow in 1979 and they had the biggest hit with it.getting to No 6 in the UK chart. This version is performed exactly the way it was done by Rainbow, Brian May being a huge fan of Ritchie Blackmore.
Aside From The Fact That Ritchie's Version Was A Cover In Itself, Agreed. But Ritchie Didn't Write It, This Is A Russ Ballard Song That He Performed In 1976 On Some British TV Show. Its On RUclips If You Wanna Look It Up.
Got to see Cozy Powell back in 1986 with Emerson, Lake & Powell ...but would love to have been there to see him with Brian May do this great cover of the big Rainbow hit.
I just watched a clip of Graham Bonnet doing this song with Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar - the "solo" was horrendous. Brian nailed this and a great performance on being a part of the song
yea i was at the whitley bay gig in 1993 and that night rocked, brian great guitar vocals, cozy awsome, spike brill, neil supper,oh and the chicks were ok lol
I just read the below comment on the backup singers. So being the Red Blooded American Male that I am, I looked. Oh My God, they are BEAUTIFUL. My heart stopped for a moment. Does anyone know their names? Talent and beauty. I hope they found men who have been good to them...
Wow, this is right up there with the best covers ever; with Shinedown covering Skynard's "Simple Man" & Distrubed's covering of Simon & Garfunfel's "Sound of Silence!"
The 2 female backup singers 😍
I know, right?
👍
Shelley preston @@sralyn
Probably the best cover of this song ever. Great energy, excellent singing & superb musicianship!
Cathy Porter and Shelley Preston are two of the best and hottest backup singers.
amen
I was at that concert and the wall of sound was unbelievable. First class band. No one plays this song like Cozy - true class and talent. And of course Brian is well... just a legend.
I was there, too. Not to take away from the band, but Brixton Academy has great acoustics! Seen some fantastic shows, there!
I was there too. cannot disagree with your statement, Was an outstanding performance

Phenomenal musician …….. and Guitarist
Yeah, it's not bad, but not as good as Graham Bonnet
Nailed it.
I heard he rescued a baby elephant that was surrounded by a pride of lions too

Brian singing, Cozy playing drums ... how did i ever miss this???? WOW!!! Awesome cover!!!
Cozy on drums
Gone but NEVER forgotten. 🥁
Cozzy is my preferred drummer
Yes!
I always thought Cozy and George Harrison looked alot alike.
@@tammybilliter9840 Cozy looks more like Keith Emerson.
Great cover by Brian and band!
They so rocked it!
RIP Cozy!
Hell of a cover on this song, love it
Oh man i didnt know brian could sing so good, now i love him even more!!!
Wow... people from Whitesnake, Rainbow, Queen... playing a Russ Ballard's (and Ritchie Blackmore) masterpiece. And doing it great, as always. Thank you, Mr. May, for your music and this now far in time show. From another stargazer (although only amateur, in my case...)

I Wish RUclips Had A 💕 Icon Instead Of Just Like Or Dislike
Just Sayin' LMFAO
I never knew Brian May sang lead vocals. He actually sounds really good!
This is what Rock is all about! Music from the 60s and 70s was awesome, so much real talent in those eras!
A very good live performance of this song. Brian and his mates do the song justice.
Damn!!!! This was really REALLY good! Great way to usher in the weekend!
Graham Bonnet is the vocalist that nails this song on the head but Brian May did a fantastic job (brilliant guitarist).
Spot on, was going to say the same.
Queen and Rainbow are bands that I love and I'm here for both. I love this version! 💞
WOW! Had no idea May could sing like that! Totally rockin' voice.
He is talented in many ways. Writer, player, and singer.
Holy crap! I love this song and he did a great version!!!!
Had no idea Brian could sing those notes in lead fashion
What a great version, so good live! Brilliant intro, terrific energy. The band is great, singers are incredible and Brian is awesome. Great song from Russ Ballard...
Outstanding performance
Such an amazing talent. Each and every member of Queen were amazing and could have gone on to individual careers in their own right. Together, they were legendary!
I absolutely LOVE Brian May,KING OF THE GUITAR !!!!!
I have been in love with those backup singers for over 20 years.
Particularly with their nipples, hair and voices, of course :)
But, of course!
It's hard to compare Rainbow and Brian May. I give the edge to Brian because of the opening on the Hammond. Otherwise, two great versions. It was a great era for rock; long may it live!
One of them was from bucks fizz Shelly Preston in leather pants too
@@mehernoshtarapore8902 Indeed..Shelley was hot i saw 3 of these shows.
Wow....this is classic Rainbow tune that I thought couldn't be matched...Brian fucking killed it.
A classic Russ Ballard song
@@andrewpark2050 still Rainbow arrangement . Ballards was quite different
What a stunning version this is!!!
It's worth noting that this is a direct copy of Rainbow's version of the song, not Russ Ballard's version. May is an unabashed fan of Ritchie Blackmore, it's nice to see him playing Blackmore's arrangement.
Not to mention, Cozy Powell on drums.
Cover rather than copy
It's not a direct copy

Cozy was attributed with their costume design...
Some Like It HOT! 8

My favorites, two of my masters of the guitar! Blackmore & May! And with Cozy Powell playing this song!!!
Vladimír Dvořák THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SOLO ORGAN... Guitar... too...!!!
