This is the definitive Porsche video we needed...I volunteer you as the man to do an updated version of this video every model year. Great stuff as always, Nick. Sorry for not insulting you like everyone else in the comments. I'm sure I will one day.
turbo (s) is my favourite as i love the back, and the launch it’s just incredible that a 4 seat car with “only” 580hp can decimate an adventador or likewise in a drag race
*I honestly think the targa is the best of the range..but I'm probably in the minority on that. But it's nice to see that you like it as well. One of the few cars that look perfect from the factory..such a classic looking shape.*
Nick, I own a 911, 991.1 GTS and I believe it's 1.6 inches wider than the Carrera and Carrera S. So you can get the wide body on a 2 wheel drive Carrera if you choose a GTS. I don't believe you can get a wide body on a 2 wheel drive Carrera any other way. You can delete Alcantara and opt for the non center lock wheels too.
Except that 4s is not a slow car by any means :) and with that in mind, I’d rather drive a fast car slow (knowing that I can go much faster when necessary). Driving Panamera S, having been driving Panamera Turbo S, I would not hesitate a moment to switch :)
You Always seem to hate on the GTS, in fact it is unique!! every metric is Tuned diffrently, it is the Sweet Spot 911 . you can not Configure a carrera 2S to be exactly as the GTS. GTS 2 is still wider on the back for instance
Another great video even if it wrinkles some feathers. Agree with 95% of your assessments. I would extend the "Turbos have too much power" comment to the GTS ans S however (at least for the street). I optioned and bought a 991.2 C4 to make it "look" exactly like a GTS with the price to match. I just didn't want all that horse power with a manual. My C4 is faster than the fasted production car made in the US in the 1980s. That is enough for me.
spot on description of the GT3. just drove one saturday that i thought i was going to buy but i changed my mind afterwards. fun car....but definitely need a track around
I've driven a 911 Coupe and Cabrio back to back and I think you missed a downside. The rear visibility with the top up. I was a little surprised at how narrow the rear visibility was from inside the car with the top up. Also I share you sentiment about the GTS, especially the center lock wheels.
The biggest issue with the GTS is the damn center wheel nut. I live in rural Japan, and not a SINGLE shop can even take a wheel off. I never thought about it, but now I'm sooo glad I didn't get one when it was offered to me...(Porsche offered me an 11% discount)
I bought my 991.2 Turbo with opt. Center lug nut. Porsche provides the tool to remove them. I talk to the Tech he said get a Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1/2 in cordless impact wrench will brake the 445 ft pound to remove and reset the torque wrench to 1 to get a tight enough (300 ft lb )torque to not lose the wheel, go to Any Porsche dealer they will for Free torque to spec.
Well, after owning three 911 over the years starting in 1977, I am back in the market for another. The kids are now college grads and I'm single again, so I can now buy whichever one I want. :-) I am presently looking at the S model since that is what I've always owned before, and I like the equipment/options offered on the C2S. I"m in California so no need for the C4S. Thanks for the model comparisons, I did learn a few things I had not yet "discovered" researching the new 991's. One thing that strikes me as funny still, are the many pseudo Porsche experts that exist in the world. They were there when I bought my first 911 in 1977, and they're still there.. LOL
Nick - Thanks for the rundown. I just bought a C4 and as you note compared to the Turbo (which I was also looking at and took a test drive) it is actually more fun. OF course the Turbo was an automatic and the C4 I bought is manual. I think it's a great entry into the Porsche world. As far as the brakes I have no intention of taking it on a track and have found them to be very solid so far. Thanks for the informative videos.
Funny enough I was after porsche experience , drove 991 Cs and GTS , then I saw a 981 boxster GTS, drove that and the amount of pleasure I got from that car was so great that I bought it on the same day
As a new Porsche owner every time get in my Turbo it gives me the same feeling as a little kid going to Disneyland. I agree with everything you said even with the too much power, like you I love the quad exhaust.
Nick, thanks for your work on all these videos. They have really helped me with my current car purchase. I am a wheelchair user (paraplegic) & as such I cannot test drive any vehicle, as I need to have hand controls fitted. As I have to disassemble my wheelchair and bring it into my car over my lap, a 2 door car is generally better than a 4 door. My present car is a VW Scirocco (don't think you get them in the US, but basically a VW Golf GTi in a fancy 2 door frock). But time (& opportunity) to upgrade. Yesterday I ordered a Porsche 911 Carrera. PDK (manual is not really an option, although it is possible to get hand controlled clutches). I live in sunny South Africa, so no need for 4WD. Same internal trim as your present 911, but went for the Sapphire Blue. Also went for the Adaptive Cruise Control (based on your recommendation/review) as hands get tired driving the 1000 miles from Cape Town to Jo'burg as I regularly do. Also went for the reversing camera (yes in a small coupé, that had good visibility, but I struggle to twist or look over my shoulder. One major difference though; my dog will not be joining me in the Porsche as he is a little bigger than yours. Deefer Dog (think about it) is a Rhodesian Ridgeback weighing 95kg!! But basically I wanted to thank you for your videos as they have helped me enormously in my choice, and then the spec. Cheers mate
Yes, the Scirocco has been a great car. But the Scirocco R (unlike the Golf R) is still just Front Wheel Drive, and I think it is asking too much to cope with all that through the front wheels, so that was ruled out. I am probably one of the few people who are thankful for the new turbocharged engines in the 911, as I often drive up to Jo'burg, which is at 2000m altitude, so non-turbo engines make around 17% less power up there. But very, very excited about my new order...may not see it this year...so I shall have to watch all your videos again in the interim!
I have to agree with comments others have made regarding the GTS, although I agree with Nick's thoughts re: alkantara. The GTS has that magic combination of RWD and wider rear fenders. Personally, I like the centerlock wheels too. Just delete the alkantara upholstery when you place your order.
Nick, I've watched your videos over the years, from your first Porsche through this one. This is the first one I'll comment on. I actually found it useful. I have driven most Porsches from the 356 to the 991.1 Targa, 924s, 944s, and my current 997 Boxster. I've been thinking of moving to a 991.2 and your review of the series was food for thought and something for me to consider. Based on US roads and rules, though I can drive like a hooligan, I prefer to stay out of jail and gainfully employed, so would consider a Carrera 4 Cabrio. Never thought about the torque vectoring issue with the base. Again, a useful video. By the way, flip all the haters.
You helped me a year ago Nick. I bought the 911 S in metallic black, soft top. Killer. Just drove (April 2019) to Saas Fee in Switzerland (ski trip) from London. Conclusion: very little pint in owning a 911 in the UK (like the USA). Speed cameras all over the country. Honking over the snow-covered Alps with the lid down was almost worth the £130,000 I paid for the 911. One advantage of a soft top. Drop the lid and the skis fit in the passenger seat and your luggage drop in the rear seats EASY. it was my 1st soft top. I would NEVER buy a sports car that was NOT a soft top. Its like jumping an 18 year old college gal with the light ON!
I agree with your comments on the LED DRL lighting on the Turbo/Turbo S. I prefer the DRLs and the tail lights of the 991.1 Turbo S over the 991.2 Turbo S. I also agree with your comments on the rear deckled; I like the 991.1 better. I think the 991.2 does a better job of integrating the bumper vents and reflectors behind the rear tires than the 991.1.
Nick, thank you for your in depth review. You do contradict yourself in the assessment of the GTS. You state that the only downside to the 4S is t that you prefer a rear wheel drive 911 on dry surfaces, but that there is no rear wheel drive 911 available in the wide body. Well guess what? The GTS you put down is the rear wheel drive wide body you are wishing for.
Great video, absolutely great video Nick ! I really like that subtle differences between my ideas and yours on some models added different perspectives to my views on those particular models. Utilizing the configurator in the video also sums up to a nice overall presentation, too.
Today is August 26, 2017 and there is 2013 911 Carrera with 11,000 miles, PDK, 658 - Power Steering Plus, Porsche certified with 2 year 50,000 mile warranty for $64,000. Am I missing something or this not a $90,000+ car with 11,000 miles and around a 33% discount?
I actually really like your reviews. Unfortunately the GT2RS is missing and the new 911 GT3 Touring (which could be a pretty sweet deal for people, who like the performance of the GT3 but a bit more subdued looks). You should also make another video, what you think about the current Boxsters and Caymans!
I hear you about the turbo. Its much more fun to drive a car at its limits than so far away from its limits. Even as a current Porsche owner, one of the most fun drives I ever had was taking a Hyundai rental car across HWY 108 in the California Sierras. I slid the car the entire time. Awesome!
I'm proud of my Carrera and hate the oval pipes or whatever shape those were in 2012. I immediately ordered and actually after-market cat-back exhaust system (Fab Speed) and was extremely glad I did and got the stainless chrome quad exhaust system. For the longest time, that was my only mod. Most recently, I discovered the IPD plenum that replaces a plastic Porsche plenum. The car actually breathes better with the same time added air cleaner that breathes better. My 2012 only has 350 horse power and a low torque level that doesn't kick in until the revs climb. I didn't not worry about weight when I optioned a sun roof (which I never open). Yes, my Carrera script and 911 script are still on the back of the car. I remember 8 years ago, that I got the car and broke it in very easily for the first thousand miles. Since then, at times, I've driven it extremely hard. That easy break-in appears to have paid dividends in reliability. Racing yellow, first year for the color with car that was ordered and built during the remainder of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's life time; then he unfortunately passed away the day before my Carrera was completed. Having passed on, the company finished my Carrera the next day and began the post build checks and shipping to none other than Beverly Hills Porsche. Lots more about this car, but I noted when I got the car that it was capable of 178 miles per hour. I save the money and did not get an S and therefore did not get Torque Vectoring, but I pretty much got everything else except artificial engine noise pipes which have never made even the slightest sense to me. Every once in a while gigantic racing trucks pull up next to me, rev their engines and then, "take off." I usually ignore them. However, when I engage sport and floor the pedal, even with their 900 horse power supercharged engines, I am almost always by them in three to five seconds. Then I immediately show down and they angrily floor their accelerator again and take off down the road at 115 mph while I settle in at 70mph, mumbling to myself, "race over." Am I sorry I did not get and S or a GTS? No, not really. I have never taken the car past 120 mph. The car can corner better than I can. You'll wonder what I did with all of that savings, will you? I dunno. Back in 2012, the 18-way power seats and that leather all over the interior and the PDK and the factory lowered edition (1/2" with longer front spoiler, Carrera 20" silver and factory 5mm spacers to widen the track and Bose music system/Sirius Sattelit capable stereo and CD player but then with no steering wheel controls (all with four stalks on the column); electrically adjusted steering wheel; partially upgraded driving system and lights which like anticipate the curve by leading the way with lighting that moves; the sunroof; night self-dimming mirrors and garage-door opener recognition and match and lastly, the torque of a 3.4 liter flat six (if I ever put twin scroll turbos on it, look out!); and the 30.3 mpg at 70mph (not the factory indicated 28mph). I dunno...I really am happy with the leather covered full-size gear lever and traditional Porsche cup holders. And a car that looks lots and lots like the lines of the original 911, rather than flared bodies and wide bodies and body work full of every kind of vent hole, useful or not. No. Just the classic lines of the Ferrari. Oh. And I do have that Duck tail that seems to come up at about 82 mph. I keep that Duck tail spoiler in the down position, all the time. Have I had an urge to change my wheels? No. Tires? Yes. I got rid of those hideous P-Zero's and put on a proper set of Michelin Cup tires...not the ones I wanted, as they didn't make them in my size or they weren't available, then. However, they are better and more comfortable and provide better road feel and feedback than the P-Zeros. AF (So. Cal.)
Hi Nick, thanks for another great video. Definitely generated a lot of comments! I think your best point is that there are so many choices for the 911, and everything is about personal taste. Having just picked up my 991.2 Night blue metallic manual GTS this weekend (colour choice and transmission were influenced by your videos on your car) I absolutely love it!! However I would never be offended if someone didn't like my choice, because the car is for me alone. Keep up the great videos! Cheers from Canada
Hi Nick, for me you are the most normal and down to earth youtuber...., you diserve millions of subsc. The 4s was always my favorite 911 but it's been beat by the Gts because it's a more atracktive package for the price (it has some most have options standard + widebody 2wd) . I love the Gt3 the most of all but no rear seat option and my children like to drive fast to! I dont like the look of the turbo at all, especially the ugly rear spoiler and the front bumper looks to basic. If the turbo had the look of the Gt3 or Gt3 rs i would buy one tommorow. Go on Nick, your video's are fun to watch. Grtz, Koen (Belgium) If you ever plan a trip to Belgium, I have a place for you to stay!
Brake fading on the base model (when driving on the track) can easily be compensated for by using more aggressive pads. A 13" front rotor should be more than enough for a car the speed and weight of the base 911. Possible that Posche does not equip the base model with pads that are suitable for track use.
I agree with you 100% in this video. You had the driving experience comments spot on with the Turbo. Totally agree with you. That's why the GT3 6 speed is my favorite Porsche because when I think of Porsche I think of the driving experience more than I do 0-60 time for example. But on the other hand, if I could by a Turbo I would but not necessarily because I think it's the best Porsche but because it's the down right fastest...like you said. Your channel is brilliant!! I am subbed, and by the way your info in the "getting a strong discount on a new Porsche" video is GOLD. Take care man.
The GT3 is my favorite model in the line. Sadly, thrill-ride cars usually sit. I have a sports car that has sat for 6months, because my wife hates how it rides and her groceries won't fit, lol. Plus I an lazy and it's kind of a pain to get it out. Thanks for the thorough run down. It's good to hear from an owner's prospective. The 911 is such a wonderfully versatile car, I think they can fit into nearly every driver's lifestyle.
I think that your comments are valid for the GT3 RS but not the GT3. As far as I know you can have all the creature comforts, sat nav, Bluetooth, adaptive 18 way heated seats, front axle lift system etc. These help its usability.
I agree about the styling of the 991.1 vs 991.2 Turbo S. I actually chose the 991.1 Turbo S because I preferred the running lights and engine cover vents over the 991.2. I also saved a good deal of cash and was able to pick up a CPO Turbo S at the bottom of the depreciation curve while the 991.2 are still depreciating a fair bit. Best daily driver ever IMHO.
Hi Nick , My experience with Turbo 911.2 convertible and I agree with you its great car but it feels like the rode is too short to enjoy the feeling of the shift and the sound but if lots of fun and definitely unique
Just ran into your channel. Best serious vlogs, but stil fun to watch! There are too much clowns on RUclips saying nothing! They’re can learn from you! Keep up the good work!
Love the video Nick! Thanks for posting. 911 is a great car, and you picked the right one for you! That's what so great about the model lineup choose. Not alot off manufacturers have this luxury
The RWD GTS coupe is actually my favorite current 911 because you get a bit more power, all the performance options (at a discount), and the wide body from the 4. Plus the appearance upgrades are pretty cool. It's the perfect configuration to me. I do agree, however, that the center lock wheels and alcantara seats are no good. I'd configure mine with Carrera S wheels and Sport-Tex Seats.
Your opinions are quite fair actually. Would like your opinions on getting started with a Porsche without throwing a lot of money away. Perhaps a used one like the old saying? One can always dream lol.
Nick, One of my favorite Porsches is that of the 928. I loved it so much, I bought one after watching "Risky Business" one too many times, and just falling in love with them. I found an 84' S (silver/red interior) and it was a nightmare to own. Breaking down constantly, and literally leaving me with hardly any time to drive between visits to Service. I still love it though, as I've accepted the heartache that is, 928 ownership. I loved it's sound, 50/50 weight distribution, and raw v8 sound. I'll surely never forget it. How do you feel about the extinct, and dinosaur, Porsche 928?? Thanks. Randy
Nick, have you read about the rumoured GT3 Touring Package, sounds like it might be perfect for you; the rumour mill thinks it might launch at Frankfurt in September. I've told my dealer I want one if it exists :D
Probably gonna lease or finance a Carrera S some day. I like personally spec'd stock, new cars with free maintenance and warranties, and Porsche has been at the top of my list for years. Fallen in love with the 911 and the Carrera range seems affordable later in my life. I live in a summer climate all year though (Florida), and I love my RWD, so a Carrera S seems the way to go, currently.
Excellent summary and I concur. I have a night blue 2018 C4S with the chalk interior in all leather, 18-ways, and a MT. Very similar to your car but no rear wheel steer or the fancy wheels. The only thing I would add (my impressions only): -don't like the profile of the cab (hump in the back) and the limited visibility. Ex-Boxster S owner. Boxster is nicer looking. -targa is a complex mechanism. Opening not that much larger than a glass sunroof which I use all the time. Can only open the roof when stationary. -GTS models don't do it for me. Don't like the front end styling (need front axle lift). Don't like the SE, (center pipes with the farting in sport mode) or the black accents or the center lock wheels. Car has enough power and don't care for the extra boost. -Turbo models are overkill for the street and no MT. -GT3 is great for track use but not as a DD. Touring package gets rid of the ridiculous wing but still too hard core. No sunroof and limited color options inside. C4S with a MT is my pick of the bunch but I am biased. But for for me, no sport tex ( i found it rough to the touch) and no rear wheel steer (more stuff to break). Your videos are very informative. And dogs belong in 911s. What the back seats are for.
Hi Nick on the GTS, it's the only model that offers widebody with rearwheel drive. Although it is a package model for this alone (only carrera based model with rear wheel on a wide body) I like it.
Absolutely love my Turbo S. Putting miles on it too quickly. :) I take my TT S to the race track to push. You're right that it's difficult to drive to its limits on the public road, but I have managed on back roads. It's difficult to make yourself do it, knowing that you're going to jail if you're apprehended. Same issue with my superbikes, though. It can be more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow - no argument from me.
I appreciate you clarifying that your opinion is your opinion and everyone else has their own being a graphic designer I love color but I don’t want a red or blue or yellow car I love silver always have always wanted to get a silver 911 and I finally got one I got the S and I’m glad I did. Granted I bought a 2014 this year partially budget partially last of the naturally aspirated cars didn’t really want the whole turbo deal got lucky that the person inspect it before me with everything I wanted it was fun hunting out the perfect car for me. I still think it’s fine that you go in and have all your choices and rip Other people’s choices I can take it, it’s all in good fun they’re just cars or carrots that people work for. I plan on joining the hell out of mine.
Other than the caliper and rotor size difference between the Base and the S, do they also have different brake master cylinders? Wondering if you can buy the S calipers and rotors and essentially get a Base with S brakes. For me, the biggest proponent for getting the S is not the stronger engine but the upgraded brakes.
For me the car is going to be the Targa GTS! Just can't get over it's looks and GTS package gives me pretty much everything I want and great sounds! (Binge watching all of Nick's videos currently)
Hi Nick nice one. My comment is that torque vectoring is available as an option for base Carrera, although only for the AWD version. I opt it in my Carrera 4 and love it especially because including fully variable electronic (only with PDK) 'Sperrdifferential' as well.
Hi nick I have an M4 and I am looking into switching to a 911.. I’ve been told you loose a lot of car if you go with anything less than a 911s would a base 911 feel to underpowered compared to the M4?
Nick, how did you configure the Turbo S with steel brakes?? I thought the PCCB is standard in the Turbo S, at least here in Germany. Btw. wait till the GT3 Touring is gonna be presented at the IAA in Frankfurt...that's a proper GT3 as a daily.
I liked this style of video. I think it would be interesting to see you do something similar with your thoughts on 911 competitors like the AMG gts, R8, NSX, F type R, Corvette etc.
Spot on with your opinions especially on the Turbo/Turbo S. It's hard to utilize the car's full potential on US roads unless you are in a race track and have the skills of Lewis Hamilton :). The one plus side is the immense power availability at any gear.
I agree about the GTS. I don't like the fact that I have to pull my 600 ft lb torque wrench out to change the wheels or tire. I don't like black wheels, I don't like Alcantara all over the place. I made my 4S almost exactly like a GTS even the engine. Like Nick says, just my opinion.
Gavin Wells lol unless your good at identifying accents it’s easy enough to mistake the British accent for an Australian or in Nick’s case New Zealend one.
1.) Are the 4-way Sport Tex sets negligible less comfortable than the 18-ways? 2.) I've heard that the Targa has more wind noise than the cabriolet?! 3.) The GTS has less sound insulation than the Carreras 4.) The Turbo does look a bit odd.
1. It really depends on your hight and shape. 2. No there is more wind buffering if you don't use the hidden wind spoiler 3. Never hear that? 4. yes it does.
Nick, in normal dry weather driving how hard is it really to break the rear loose on your c4s? I would like to request a dry weather hard driving video to explain further the differences between driving the 2s and 4s in the dry
Hi, Nick. One week ago I bought a 991.1 911 Turbo S. I also have a 992 C4S. Some things I like about the 992 over the 991 turbo S. Other things I like better about the 991 Turbo S over the 992. Kind of different personalities of these cars. Both are brilliant in their own right. The 992 is more comfortable than the 911 Turbo S, for a longer drive (I did 300 miles in the TS yesterday and it was a bit....firm). Which would I prefer if I could only have one? Damned good question.
I have been told by a man that knows (?) that an Easter egg from Porsche is, if you click the handbrake on by 1 click ie. not actually ON then all the drive on AWD 911's is sent to the back wheels a lá 2WD! Try it!
You are a fucking moron Nick.
This is indeed the general consensus
Looks like someone hasn't been on the toilet today. :D
Nick Murray I think he was probably hoping for Becky's opinions on 911s. I feel his disappointment ;)
Lmao
You would be right!
The only 911 model I can afford is the TAKARA TOMY Scale 1/64 Porsche 911 Carrera
lol
I love your videos Nick. You are genuinely the only youtubers page I visit often just to make sure I don't miss anything
same here :)
This is the definitive Porsche video we needed...I volunteer you as the man to do an updated version of this video every model year. Great stuff as always, Nick. Sorry for not insulting you like everyone else in the comments. I'm sure I will one day.
Petar Miskovic agree, my heads spins when looking On the Porsche website at the millions of different variants
Love this type of content
agreed. MORE MORE MORE
Same
turbo (s) is my favourite as i love the back, and the launch it’s just incredible that a 4 seat car with “only” 580hp can decimate an adventador or likewise in a drag race
To note: On the TT/TTS the side openings are not intakes. They are intercooler cooling ports. The intake is in the rear lid in front of the spoiler.
Correct.
*I honestly think the targa is the best of the range..but I'm probably in the minority on that. But it's nice to see that you like it as well. One of the few cars that look perfect from the factory..such a classic looking shape.*
Glad to see some love for the Targa! I've always thought if I can ever afford a 911, that's the one I'd pick.
What do you reckon to the 997 Targa with the big glass sunroof?
screw the haters. your channel made me buy a 991.2 :)
Same here.
Just picked mine up as well. Lightly used. Not the spec I really wanted, but they're tough to come by in the exact spec unless I go new.
Widebody, centre lock wheels and being able to spec leather interior makes the GTS is the sweet spot of 991's range
Love this video. We need more Nick Murray philosophy here. They will be naming stars after you Nick long after you're gone.
Regarding the Turbo S, it's always more enjoyable to drive slow car fast than fast car slow.
Turder but its the best to drive a fast car fast😉
Except that 4s is not a slow car by any means :) and with that in mind, I’d rather drive a fast car slow (knowing that I can go much faster when necessary). Driving Panamera S, having been driving Panamera Turbo S, I would not hesitate a moment to switch :)
Accordion And More the old na panameras , realy felt a bit
How should i say... a bit sluggish.
Oh it's one of those... go on, tell us all about how your miata is better than any car in the world
Very nice. Bought my first Porsche last April---17 turbo s cab. Best car I have ever owned! Keep up the good work👍
Probably the smartest of the RUclips car channels.
You Always seem to hate on the GTS, in fact it is unique!! every metric is Tuned diffrently, it is the Sweet Spot 911 . you can not Configure a carrera 2S to be exactly as the GTS. GTS 2 is still wider on the back for instance
As I said you can configure the C4S to be exactly the same as the GTS
Yes but not if you want a 2 and not a 4 ;)
This is indeed true, you can get the RWD model with the wide body on the GTS
Freaked me out, just left your Rich Piana video lol.
luimarco you should get a 911 brother
Another great video even if it wrinkles some feathers. Agree with 95% of your assessments. I would extend the "Turbos have too much power" comment to the GTS ans S however (at least for the street). I optioned and bought a 991.2 C4 to make it "look" exactly like a GTS with the price to match. I just didn't want all that horse power with a manual. My C4 is faster than the fasted production car made in the US in the 1980s. That is enough for me.
spot on description of the GT3. just drove one saturday that i thought i was going to buy but i changed my mind afterwards. fun car....but definitely need a track around
Bigger problem with the Turbo S is once you’ve had one……..everything else seems slow.
I've driven a 911 Coupe and Cabrio back to back and I think you missed a downside. The rear visibility with the top up. I was a little surprised at how narrow the rear visibility was from inside the car with the top up. Also I share you sentiment about the GTS, especially the center lock wheels.
Nick Keyzer I think lane change assist is a must on any cab for this reason.
Pistons aren't callipers Nick...
Ah yes misspoke! Sorry!
You can option a front lift on a GT3 and sofa or adaptive seats.
Porsche 911 is the best looking car and best drivers car in the world
You would say that
lol
Adolf Hitler thanks for the review
You should consider working as a salesman on the weekends at your local Porsche dealer.
The dealerships would probably fire him for selling too many cheap ones and not upselling.
Do dealerships allow weekend salesmen? Cause I would love to do that
Trebor Heminway "cheap ones" :D
The biggest issue with the GTS is the damn center wheel nut. I live in rural Japan, and not a SINGLE shop can even take a wheel off.
I never thought about it, but now I'm sooo glad I didn't get one when it was offered to me...(Porsche offered me an 11% discount)
When ordering new you can spec regular 5 bolts at no cost though
problem is the long wait to order one.... The discount applied to cars already built and in Japan
For that 11% discount couldn't you bring a tool along to take the wheels of with? :-)
LOL
Which one did you choose?
Felice Graziano your mom
Nick - Thanks for the rundown. I just bought a C4 and as you note compared to the Turbo (which I was also looking at and took a test drive) it is actually more fun. OF course the Turbo was an automatic and the C4 I bought is manual. I think it's a great entry into the Porsche world. As far as the brakes I have no intention of taking it on a track and have found them to be very solid so far. Thanks for the informative videos.
14:20 gt3 + touring option = WIN
Funny. We have all cabs! Heidi
Love me the cabs...
Funny enough I was after porsche experience , drove 991 Cs and GTS , then I saw a 981 boxster GTS, drove that and the amount of pleasure I got from that car was so great that I bought it on the same day
I'm happy you had positives on the targa. I love it but seems to never get it's due.
Cheers mate
Wish we could get the Scirocco here! Love them
Yes, the Scirocco has been a great car.
Nick - top round up & largely agree 100% with your views. I'm considering getting my first modern Porsche. so very helpful.
YOUR GREATEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME!!
Kudos!
The real question is: what does Becky think about current 911s?
Pretty sure she does not care about any Porsche
I'm not surprised! Serious question: meetup this fall?
Ditch her.
charlesmcguffy It's kind of hard to ditch one's sister.
Pretty sure neither does he at this moment.
currently driving a 2017 m4, hope to get a 992 carrera S or 4s the next year!
Then I immediately show down and they angrily floor their accelerator again and take off down the road at 115 mph while I settle in at 70mph, mumbling to myself, "race over."
Am I sorry I did not get and S or a GTS? AF (So. Cal.)
I agree with your assessment of the Turbo models. My car (2017 Camaro SS) is so quick that you don't get to work the car. Great review.
Nick make a video for best used/cpo 911 under 60k..
I got the 911 4 years back the bace model
the only I could afford, I hope 🤞 that’s good on your review
Grtz, Koen (Belgium) If you ever plan a trip to Belgium, I have a place for you to stay!
we love your show. I have my own thoughts on many cars, but that's the fun part life. have a great day Nick.
Brake fading on the base model (when driving on the track) can easily be compensated for by using more aggressive pads. A 13" front rotor should be more than enough for a car the speed and weight of the base 911. Possible that Posche does not equip the base model with pads that are suitable for track use.
Would love to hear an update about this with the new models!
I just bought a 17 CPO C4S. The car is an absolute dream.
Hi Nick , My experience with Turbo 911.2 convertible and I agree with you its great car but it feels like the rode is too short to enjoy the feeling of the shift and the sound but if lots of fun and definitely unique
Thanks Nick, taking William's comments into account it is a perfect analysis!
Nick,
One of my favorite Porsches is that of the 928.
Thanks. Randy
Great summation Nick; Love your take on things. Keep up the great work!
Nick, have you read about the rumoured GT3 Touring Package, sounds like it might be perfect for you; the rumour mill thinks it might launch at Frankfurt in September. I've told my dealer I want one if it exists :D
Nick thank you for sharing your thoughts about the 911's thanks for your work.... and your time here... you are cool man!!
Oh man so excited to watch this - lunch with a new nick Murray video!
The only thing I would add (my impressions only):
-don't like the profile of the cab (hump in the back) and the limited visibility.
Steve C Yeah just run from the cops they’ll call of the chase they’ll never catch u
The current 991/991.2 is one of the very few new cars that have gotten huge, compared to models from just a generation previously, that I LOVE!
I think i'll just start with the basic model. Thanks for the video!
Very nice video dude keep it up man, as a fellow Porsche fan I really enjoy your videos
I’ve been told you loose a lot of car if you go with anything less than a 911s would a base 911 feel to underpowered compared to the M4?
one remark : your audio volume level is low
Nick, how did you configure the Turbo S with steel brakes?? I thought the PCCB is standard in the Turbo S, at least here in Germany.
Btw. wait till the GT3 Touring is gonna be presented at the IAA in Frankfurt...that's a proper GT3 as a daily.
I think you can get the widebody on the 2WD models as long as you spec them with the RWS
This is the 3rd time I watch this video ! ( every time I fell in love with a different 911 :) ) Great video, thx Nick !
I liked this style of video. I think it would be interesting to see you do something similar with your thoughts on 911 competitors like the AMG gts, R8, NSX, F type R, Corvette etc.
Targa GTS for me thanks, in yellow over grey full leather interior with yellow stitching and seatbelts.
Manual gearbox of course.
Spot on with your opinions especially on the Turbo/Turbo S. It's hard to utilize the car's full potential on US roads unless you are in a race track and have the skills of Lewis Hamilton :). The one plus side is the immense power availability at any gear.
Fun little review Nick, thanks Mate. For me (in California) it's the Carrera S all day.
"the world doesn't have enough pleaded khakis" I almost died I fucking love the britts I think I'd prefer living there over America
Gavin Wells you think Nick is from the UK?
Shane Earley that I did lol I actually realized I was wrong shortly after commenting
Another thing I thought worth mentioning is that the Turbo and Turbo S have no option for a manual gearbox (at least as far as I can tell).
Correct.
You didn’t mention the targa can’t open and close the roof without stopping. A real advantage of the cabrio is you close the roof at 50km/h
Try it!
