"This is one of those cars you can drive to the office if you own a business and you're worried about your employees thinking that you have too much money. It's just a Porsche, everybody's uncle's got a Porsche." Lmao yeah totally dude
Some of the interior finishes in the 997.1 are notoriously poor, such as the PCM knobs and switches. A lot of these issues were corrected in the 997.2.
Max H its pretty common in porsches that are a few years old.. not sure why, but supposedly theyve corrected it. still, porsche has the best quailty interior overall imho
People misunderstand Porsche design. This is because Porsche are design experts and the internet is full of opinionated know-it-alls. When Porsche went water cooled with the 996, they asked themselves 'what makes a 911'. The answer is: a rear mounted engine, 5 instrument dials and the 'fly line' or 911 sillouhette. These things don't change generation to generation, everything else does such as lights, grilles, wheels, engine size, interior fittings etc. Great design is when everything changes but nothing changes. 911 achieves this. Apple does too.
Jake Kennedy my 06 4 runners interior at 140k miles is near pristine. just regular detailing despite it getting beat up on. you wonder what people do to cars
80k isn't a big deal being a porsche engine, it is not a lambo where you have to replace the clutch every time you turn on the damn car and depreciate by 10k every time as well. The porsche engine is built to last and i've known 2 people who have driven theirs up to 300k miles still running strong before upgrading and read tons of reviews by owners on forums stating the same. The tiptonic is still fun to use, no different from todays paddle shifters. And to everyone bitching about how many owners, again it doesnt matter. For cars like ferrari's it isnt uncommon to see one with 6 owners by the time it hits 20k miles, much more common on higher end cars because most people with the money want a new one sooner than your average consumer. And I speak from experience of owning several high end vehicles, knowing others with the same, and being well in contact with a lot of mechanics who deal with mostly imports.
I got a 996 about five years back and I love it. It's a '99, so the engine uses water cooling which means that the heater works. It has a ragtop and a hardtop, 6 on the floor with two owners, 52,700 miles and was only $22k. Most used 911s and Boxsters of that vintage are good value, but you must remember to replace the bearing on the aft end of the IMS shaft or run a 5% risk of losing the engine.
The 997 Turbo would be a 2006-2008 high mileage (60k miles+) and fair condition to be $51,000. If you wanted newer and lower mileage they would go around 70 to 90k for a good turbo. If not, you can buy the Carrera base, 928 for the v8, 914, or Boxster. They are all priced below and around 40k. Once you buy a Porsche, you will not turn back.

I actually love the green with the tan interior. Such a classic colour combo. Kind of strange on a Porsche, more of an Aston Martin colour scheme but still looks gorgeous.
Am i the only one who likes the color combo? And think 51 is a steal for this.. 997 are very reliable. I work for a porsche dealer & they are amazing cars without a doubt
fudgeman333 looks like the classic British racing green. I love it's look but the thing with me is that I HIGHLY prefer cars when I first laid eyes on them. LIKE the murcielago orange like color, gumperts Apollo in a blue color, and Mercedes SLR in silver....like these cars are well known in these colors and prefer them that way
No, there are a billion people in the planet which means Not a single One us is special, only the elitist think they are special which makes them typical and mediocre...
This green/tan combo is very nice but I never understood why anyone would make an upper dashboard in a light color! - it makes me wonder what else they might have done that doesn't make sense.
This is my all time favorite car. All wheel drive, traction control... I bet it's a lot faster than a Lambo in the Alps on fresh snow, hence the roof rack attachments.
IMO the 997 Turbo should have a higher significance rating. Last Metzger + Last manual Turbo's + Hydraulic steering. I feel time has been increasingly kind to this car and will continue to do so. I feel it's a car that those who know their cars appreciate what this car is.
Great car! I just got back from riding in my buddy’s 2007 997 Turbo to a local (Denver) Porsche Club meeting. Hard to believe how fast it is and how it is glued to the road! I’m very jealous so I’m going back to my bedroom to cry on my pillow. 😭
This is false but usually the uncles are always cool for example I’m into cars and my uncle is to and he takes me to go look at cars sometimes that’s just my example but every uncle is cool in someway
Doug, what about the Porsche 996s where one of the engine bearings didn't get enough oil because of the bad design of the engine and it would overheat and fail ruining the engine. You can buy them for super cheap and replace the engine bearing for only like $700. I think it was a crankshaft bearing but i'm not positive.
The early 997 had this issue as well. But in both generations the IMS bearing (which your referring to) isn't an issue in the Turbo models. I don't know why tbh, they just don't have IMS issues.
Because the 996/7 TT's both have the Mezger engine, so no worries with a sealed bearing. Disclaimer, I drive an 05 997 C2S with the IMS fixed...for now.
The IMS bearing kits are only "upgrades" not fixes. It's still a non-lubed part even if it's now a double-row ceramic bearing. I know. I sold mine before I had to deal with it.
Here again watching 911 videos. Ever since the GR Corolla was shown, I’ve been sure that I want one. But for an estimated $40,000 I’m suddenly thinking about what other cars I can buy. This car has crept on my radar, and I gotta say, I’m am SERIOUSLY considering it.
Don’t want to be that guy but you should check out the used market for these. You won’t even find even a salvaged titled one for that price right now lol.
Bruno Pule I've been to that dealership. It's more of a general exotic Car dealer. They have McLaren, rolls royces, ferraris, and Lamborghinis along with Bentleys and Aston martins. I just don't understand why they have Porsches because there is a Porsche dealer across the street
I have a 14 year old manual version of this car that I bought about four years ago. I could sell it now for exactly the same price I paid for it. The only major cost to date was a new starter motor which was just over £400 plus labour. I can drive 300 miles and step straight out without needing a chiropractor and I live in London so I have to contend with heavy traffic but it is so docile in the city that it is not a problem at all. When I let loose on country roads it can take a complete mental recalibration to get used to the sheer speed that is available. On most corners brakes are only needed as a substitute for courage. It will pull 1g sideways and on motorways I can get 30mpg (UK imperial gallons). I have taken it on holidays with a small suitcase in the front, another on each side of the fold down rear seats and two soft bags on the parcel shelf at the back. I can even fit a full set of golf clubs and troller on the fold down seats. As far as I am concerned it is the perfect car.
Porsche does a shit job on their interiors. Look at a 996 as proof, many are worn out looking inside. They spray paint everything with low grade crap that doesn't stand the test of time.
OMGWTFLOL that's totally far fetched. The 996 is old so ofcourse the details are bad and worse than the 997....its older lml that's like saying the BMW M5 from 2005 had a worse looking interior than the 2010 BMW M5.....no shit it's older and people upgrade lml
Personally, I think the color scheme is beautiful! It looks nearly charcoal colored on an overcast day, and I'm sure it's almost British Racing Green in the sun. It's different from the silver, black, or red everyone else is driving.
997 is one of my favorite Porsches. Nothing more than a "simple" 911 and I love it. No wing thats to big, classic Porsche headlights. In Sweden you can buy one for only 35k$
There is a mistake in this video. The "dark green" as you named it, isn't something that would lower the price. This color (at least if it's not a replica) is called "Tannengrün" (engl. fir-green) and is the original color only of those cars driven by members of the Porsche-family. There is no possibility buying a Porsche in Tannengrün. Therefore, if the paintwork is well preserved, the car costs way more than it's normal price would be. In your case I guess, that the color is a replica. Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Zuffenhausen in Germany.
No, Doug is right. Green cars are HATED by many Americans. The color is a definite liability for this car. I own 4 911 Turbos, so excuse my hands-on experience...
first, are you sure this is tannengrün? Cause it looks way darker in the video. second, are you sure you cant order tannengrün as a custom color from the factory?

I drove a 2001 996TT for 13 years. They're like flying an F-18 Hornet on wheels. Porsche Twin Turbo's are pretty much bullet proof. THEE- only everyday driver supercar.. Out of ice? No problemo. 7-11 run coming up! I'd arrive home and sit in my driveway for a few minutes with a shit eating grin even after driving it for 13 years. Other than maintenance, the only part ever replaced was the anti freeze coolant reservoir as they can crack overtime from engine heat buildup. I'm planning on getting a newer convertible in the future.
you are so lucky! can get a cayman 55k usd. in Turkey, %200 tax!! 1 car for me, 2 cars go to government as tax. 1 usd 6-7 TL. 55.000 USD X 3 = 175.000 USD a base cayman. 175.000 * 6TL = 1.000.000 tl. This is Mc Donalds Turkey employee's 52-year salary. (i give example Mc because, there is Mc)
My 991 has these same two cup holders and I love them. Porsche got it right when they put in these cup holders. Some person with an IQ of about 86 decided to 86 one of the hidden cup holders and put it in the console where one doesn't want it. Porsche didn't develop more center storage with the 992. I also have an actual gear shift lever with my first year 991. I love it. Can't stand the little lever the job of which is to signal the transmission by wire to go into reverse or drive. I also do not like the F-1 shifters that have become popular on all cars these days. They are just fine on a Mercedes. The best shift system ever is on my 2012, where I have shifter switches that shift up and down on the left of the steering wheel, meaning that if you left hand happens to be the only one that is free, you can still shift bot up and down in gear. Of course, the right side of the steering wheel also has one of these switches, both of them in bright aluminum which makes them impossible to miss. I can now shift up and down with just the right hand if the left is not available. And, if I'm tired of up and/or down shifting on both sides of the steering wheel, I can use the shift lever to shift up or down by moving it over to the left. If all of these modes are not enough, I can leave the car in standard drive or select either "Sport," or, "Sport+" to bump up one gear and to lengthen the intake manifold in order to provide additional power. Also, if I want to leave it in standard drive mode, I can still stiffen the suspension by simply pressing a button. My car is considered to be somewhat of an anomaly and it is a Carrera which means it is the slowest of any of the Porsche offerings, which means it can only reach a top speed of 178 miles per hour. So..ooo...all of you more macho guys who can go 188 and 191 and 193 and 197...nearly none of you have gone that fast on the street. None of you have. And so you all can go zero to 60 faster than my poor limp basic Carrera 991 911. The small tear in the rear seat that I haven't fixed; the slightly off kilter lamps don't exactly line up with the front body bumper panel. But. But I optioned it fairly heavily and I love my beige leather upholsetry and my seven-speed PDK with sport-chrono package. And I ordered all the handling upgrades except the engine mounts that are electronically controlled. No to save money, but rather Porsche did not offer it unless I also upgraded to the S model. I didn't want the S model. Consequent to ordering all th eother handling packages, the factory lowered the car by 1/2 inch. And those optional wheels spacers that make the wheels look wider than they are relative to the fenders: those were factory installed and set up, so that handling is not negatively affected. Also, every button and switch on the car including the 18-way Adaptive front power seats work except one thing: the heated seat feature. That stopped working while I left the car at the Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills, Ca. for the seconde year service. The dealer broke it but refused to fix it. I'm still working on getting them fixed, four years later. I have a lead though. AF
I love this dark green exterior and beige interior. Its an amazing colour combo.
My first car was green. Crashed it after 3 days. My grandmother said green was unlucky. I'd never own another green car again 😂😒😭

The subtle green is cool but I hate the interior, the upholstery just clashes with all the black/grey trim.
Kyle Dempsey yes definitely
This green/tan combo is very nice but I never understood why anyone would make an upper dashboard in a light color! - it makes me wonder what else they might have done that doesn't make sense.
Who else thought it was black?
Jasper Wiblin me.
Fuck off, you colour blind elasticated mind melting idiot
I still think it's black. Either my monitor's fucked or the video's at Demuro Quality TM
Jasper Wiblin I thought Doug was black
Jasper Wiblin you watching on an android bruh ?
997 has always been on my mind for a decade now. Watched this video years back and watching it again now.
I like dougs relaxed voice when he is explaining that you can relax in a car
This is my all time favorite car. All wheel drive, traction control... I bet it's a lot faster than a Lambo in the Alps on fresh snow, hence the roof rack attachments.
IMO the 997 Turbo should have a higher significance rating. Last Metzger + Last manual Turbo's + Hydraulic steering.
I feel time has been increasingly kind to this car and will continue to do so.
I feel it's a car that those who know their cars appreciate what this car is.
that car still looks new to me so I feel old
420apache657 nah newer porches barely look different lol
Great car! I just got back from riding in my buddy’s 2007 997 Turbo to a local (Denver) Porsche Club meeting. Hard to believe how fast it is and how it is glued to the road! I’m very jealous so I’m going back to my bedroom to cry on my pillow. 😭
LOL! 😅
I hear ya. I had this car for three years but had to sell it :(
Product Reviews why did you have to sell?

That's about the cost of one of Blac Chyna's titties according to Rob K.

(997) is the best 911. Manual of course.....
I would agree but I’m going to get hate if I do
Its a wannabe 911
" Everybody's uncle has a porsche ".... Were's my porsche? 😂😂😂
You don’t get to have one, your uncle does.
Gamer and Controller I think he’s saying that he IS an uncle (and doesn’t have one).😆
Not these days. Maybe uncles from the 1980’s
This is false but usually the uncles are always cool for example I’m into cars and my uncle is to and he takes me to go look at cars sometimes that’s just my example but every uncle is cool in someway
I’d let this car sit on my face. So gorgeous
Patrick Frankenthal doubt u gonna survive this

A few months after I saw this video, I bought my first porsche. It is an 08 base cayman with manual and I absolutely love it. Thanks Doug!
This is my dream car. It's so beautiful. One of the best looking porsches made in my opinion.

The high reliability of a car that doesn't void it's warranty on the track still blows my mind. This was a fun one. Thanks, Doug!
Girl: "What's the best thing about you?"
Doug: "Well, I have a bumper-to-bumper warranty on all of my cars!"
You can get them in 5 speed or 6 speed manuals and it had a 3.4-3.6 naturally aspirated flat 6
he mentioned the IMS in his 996 review as being a non-issue for potential buyers, relatively cheap fix if it hasn't already been done
I've learned more English words from Doug than from the 4 years of high school

Obviously, you didn't pay any attention in HS English Class.

Be honest, you didn't notice it was green until he told you.
It’s hardly green..
Commenter it still looks black to me😂 i cant see any green
i actually did. Which is weird because I'm colorblind. :/
MostlyIrishCarGuy dude, you're Irish, everything is green.

The best about this car is....... the Benley plate! :D
0:46 Love it!!!
Bruno Pule almost comment this but you do it for me xD
Malaysia hw collector It looks gorgeous!!!
Bruno Pule I've been to that dealership. It's more of a general exotic Car dealer. They have McLaren, rolls royces, ferraris, and Lamborghinis along with Bentleys and Aston martins. I just don't understand why they have Porsches because there is a Porsche dealer across the street
Ha, my Jeep Wrangler has a Mercedes Plate on it. Thought it was ironic and kept it from the dealer.
Shabbir Naqvi possible trade ins?
That interior is fucked! Did the previous owner bite the fuckin buttons an switches???
Porsche does a shit job on their interiors. Look at a 996 as proof, many are worn out looking inside. They spray paint everything with low grade crap that doesn't stand the test of time.
It is absolutely normal for the climate control buttons to wear out like that on these cars, and easy to get refinished.
Ed will driver had sex with a vampire
OMGWTFLOL that's totally far fetched. The 996 is old so ofcourse the details are bad and worse than the 997....its older lml that's like saying the BMW M5 from 2005 had a worse looking interior than the 2010 BMW M5.....no shit it's older and people upgrade lml
It's vw's old soft touch coating and it's not that great.
These reviews are great! Personal, quirky, and very interesting. Also love the dougscore!
You're awesome, Doug! Keep it coming!
He is talking things everybody knows anyway . Captain Obvious. Captain Banal.
They run for over 100k now, 100% increase in price in 4 years? Crazy
Here to watch this video because I found one for sale for around 115k. Crazy!
7/10 for styling? That body design is classic and iconic. There's no mistaking it for any other car. I'd give it a 9/10 for styling.
Personally, I think the color scheme is beautiful! It looks nearly charcoal colored on an overcast day, and I'm sure it's almost British Racing Green in the sun. It's different from the silver, black, or red everyone else is driving.
Is this under 51 thousand dollars?
a 911 turbo with an auto is blasphemy... This car should be sent to the crusher
Joeys Cleaning Lady I agree. Down with the autotragic slushbox transmission. Leave that shit for the prius and mini vans
Future Stein no
Joeys Cleaning Lady not everyone likes manual.
Tiptronic > Manual.
997 is one of my favorite Porsches. Nothing more than a "simple" 911 and I love it. No wing thats to big, classic Porsche headlights. In Sweden you can buy one for only 35k$
35k USD/US-equivalent? or 35k of Swedish currency, before the exchange rate?
What bad English? 😂
Dougs words are the law
first, are you sure this is tannengrün? Cause it looks way darker in the video. second, are you sure you cant order tannengrün as a custom color from the factory?
Why don't you buy it if its that much of a bargain

Anybody else ocd when the tire pressures weren't the same on the tires
Larry Berganza it's a sports car, they're different front-to-back.
vanamburgben yes of course they are lol. I'm referring to the fact that on the rear wheels it's at 42 psi on the left and 43 on the right.
Dude me too, I would stop off first thing and put 1 psi in that damn tire! haha

Other than maintenance, the only part ever replaced was the anti freeze coolant reservoir as they can crack overtime from
engine heat buildup.
I'm planning on getting a newer convertible in the future.
This is my favorite car of all time. (As long as it has sport exhaust and a manual transmission)
This is my favorite Porsche model ever
you are so lucky! can get a cayman 55k usd. in Turkey, %200 tax!!
AF
