I think you're right on both accounts of drug addiction or narcissistic behavior, I do dedicate this to my son who lost his life from drug addiction, and I do also relate to this song with my ex of 18 years, but either way it's a beautiful song and I love Myles Kennedy. One of the greatest voices ever. Funny with the planes, I'm guessing you're in Queens and dealing with JFK or a might be totally wrong LOL

Wow, Jayy, I've seen a quite a few reactions to this song and you're the first to completely nail the meaning. This was written about a friend who was suffering a serious drug addiction. Despite years of support from Myles and others and many broken promises from the friend he never beat the addiction. In the end, Myles just couldn't stay and watch his old friend continue to kill himself. It effected Myles greatly at the time, and having seen him perform this song many times, I think it still does. I would recommend watching a couple of Alter Bridge performances, namely, "Blackbird"(Wembley show) and "Word Darker Than Their Wings" (Royal Albert Hall show), both superb songs, emotional and powerful.
I'd recommend the Amsterdam version of Blackbird myself, although the Wembley version has Myles sharing personal information about the song's origin, plus a tribute to the Beatles version of Blackbird too.
And he loves Jeff Buckley! He actually has one of his guitars! That was the first video I saw of yours (Lover you should have come over) and been a sub ever since!
