Beautiful reaction, thank you. Myles is without a doubt one of the best vocalists working today, the emotion he can convey in his voice is beyond belief. As to the meaning, Myles has said it's about addiction and the frustration of trying to help someone who won't help themselves. Many years after it's first release, the song was used multiple times in the TV series "Celebrity Rehab".

My daughter chose this as our daddy daughter dance for her wedding. My tux will be soaked from my tears. This song gets me like no other!
This song is deeply personal for me. My now ex wife is a severe alcoholic and drug addict; it's completely heartbreaking to try and be there for somebody with those issues, and they are just "not there" because their addictions are more important.
It isn't that her addiction is 'more important' its that she's sick. The issue is, people who are sick have the choice to try and help themselves or not. It hurts when they choose not to. But don't ever think that someone things that substances are 'more important.' Addiction is a sickness, and a person has to be in the right place, with the right support, with the right people, in order to get to a better place.

I first heard this song via this very video. It's a stripped down pure performance. It got me good, the tears were streaming uncontrollably I became super emotional. Thats what a great performance does. This is pure magic.

If I have the facts straight,
The song is allegedly about a friend of his that used to be close but fell into drugs / substance abuse (or something equally as wrecking) and, not for lack of trying, he had to give up and leave them behind.
One of my favorite songs!! ❤ Myles Kennedy!! In addition to Alterbridge, he's Slash's singer in his band with the Conspirators. Fabulous music with Slash!! One hell of a songwriter. You must see "Blackbird" live!!

I never get tired of seeing reactions to this video , such a pure performance from myles you can see in his face through his voice and the music just how personal this song is to the band , i saw them in birmingham arena not long ago and im not sure which song it was during but myles handed his guitar to a fan right after finishing it just amazing i have a feeling it could have been 'ghost of days gone by ' a song i know you would love kali i am biased mind lol x

Myles Kennedy was in the movie Rock Start at the end when he gets on stage and sings with Walberg and Walberg walks off stage.
In Loving Memory is a tear jerker. Guitarist Mark Tremonti wrote it for his late mother, and Myles makes it beautiful. You should really check it out, and try not to cry. I played it at my mother's funeral.

People are commenting how talented Myles Kennedy is, and I agree wholeheartedly, but this song in particular is just so beautifully melancholic, so heartbreakingly haunting, it almost makes me feel like I could be the kind of person he's singing about. It makes me want to really self-analyse myself and overcome all my problems, but at the same time his voice makes my problems evaporate into thin air. I can't explain the emotions Myles brings out in me.

Some people take this song as a breakup song or losing a loved one.
"In loving memory" is also an awesome song that the guitar player wrote in honor of his mother who passed away.

It’s about a relationship where one is a drug addict and as much as the other loves them they can’t carry on the relationship but worries who is going to look after the person when he leaves the relationship.

Such a beautiful reaction! Yes, Myles Kennedy definitely has the most incredible voice in rock today. Period. Alter Bridge is my favorite band. They are so extremely talented and unfortunately so underrated here in the US. I don't understand it myself, but all those people are missing out!

Sherry Peters Rock is dead in the USA you won’t find a true rock song in the top 40 here been that way for years. Alter Bridge is big overseas though and for those who appreciate great music.
I feel like he is searching for a question to himself? Initially I thought it was for someone while he was on his death bed and in asking that question to the other person. It wasn't out of jealousy but out of love wanting whoever she was to be taken care of after he passed away. Now I don't think I'm right on it either accounts

he is singing about a woman that relied on him to put her life together. she was idiotic, selfish and destructive. he attempted to help her pick up the pieces of her broken life, but she tried to take him down with her. he left, and the song is the reflection about what would become of her when he left. astute. and as a christian as miles is, he is asking himself that though his woman is a monster, and is undeserved of his love, is he abandoning his faith as he abandons this woman? she who is in need of salvation, and the unrequited love of someone that they do not command.
