    The one thing that always amazes me about David Gilmore is how incredibly humble he is. It’s almost as if he has no idea how many people he has affected with his talents. I don’t admire many people but he is a hero to me.

    • @Neal_Schier
      @Neal_Schier Месяц назад

      @@smokeandkippers Very well said Sir! Although I have never met him, I have heard from others who have spent time with him (work related) and they all comment on his almost zen-like humility. For many high-achievers the humility is but an act, but for him it is apparently quite real.
      My guess is that he realizes that he was gifted with an extraordinary talent both emotionally and musically and that he was but the corporeal guardian of that gift. Sure he toiled long and hard to master his craft, but there was a spark from somewhere.
      I am far from a mystic, but good heavens that boy was given a gift!

      Iconic. When I was a child in the early 80s and knew nothing about the band itself, I always envisioned their music travelling from a distant point in outer space where the gods dwelt; or an obscure group of shadows massive as Saturn drifting past the stars creating tonal ether. It's pretty easy to play, Bryan. Do you have a guitar?
      Thanks to this video I just learned that the opening notes are all happening within the G shape chord on the bottom 3 strings and also on the open 4th string for that one highest note of that little melodic part (watch his index finger play it), all the while he is always strumming the top 3 strings of the G chord to make that repeating chordal sound that is the background chord that doesn't change.
      Then the rest of the song is G, then to the C on "So, so you think you can..., then to the D chord on "tell", A minor on "heaven from hell", then back to G on "blue skies from pain", to D on "can you tell a green field from cold steel rail", A minor, back to G again and then it all repeats.
      So its a I-IV-V-vi-I-V-vi-I progression in G major. And it sounds just like the studio recording if you have a 12 string guitar (which I don't)! :)
      How strange that this video was uploaded 17 hours before I searched it out to learn how to play the song. I had seen it on here long ago (I think) and came back to review it again. THANK YOU SIR for providing this resource! I appreciate it!
