Deamon visions of his past mistakes hits another level
Daemon being "power hungry" in the sense that he wants to be able to do whatever he wants without consequences, which requires a lot of power. He doesnt really want to be king, he wants all the benefits of being a king without any of the responsibilities. That is why he was fine with staying in Pentos. He was given everything he could want without any duties or responsibilities to go a long with it.
"As you permitted the murder of a little boy in his bed" doesn't really mean to suggest that Rhaenyra ok'd it: means she can't control everything that is done in her name, just as Alicent doesn't control what is done by her side.
Daemon is a very cool character. A psychopath, but cool. And funny.
Even as late as the 18th century it was common to keep the bodies of executed men hanging on gibbets as an example to others. It was part of the way the powerful used terror to control the powerless. I suspect it might be part of the reason the British started sending people to Australia instead, since all the corpses hanging around were a health hazard. And stank.

The visions Daemon was having were due to Harrenhall being haunted and cursed. When the original Aegon was conquering the country, his dragon Balerion burned this castle that had just been built as the largest and most impregnable place ever conceived. The dragon's fire was so hot that it literally melted the stone itself and the entire family that controlled the castle (Harren the Black, a super bad guy) was killed there. Ever since that happened, whoever controlled that castle has died and it continued all the way through the original Game of Thrones series.
Without spoiling anything, by the time the series ends you will know Daemon's point of view on all of this and I suspect you will think he is the biggest badass that ever existed regardless of anything else that happens.
