Indeed, I hate when I see comments saying how GoT was much better than HOTD, saying it's too slow..GoT's best moments were just two people talking in a room. The grand battles and all that specticle came later when the show started to decline.. We are joking about wanting to see war etc, we enjoyed the show during its slow parts just as much as this. I still think episode 8 of season1 and 2 of season 2 are my favorites overall.

Nah the issue is some scenes wasted time and episode 3 was pure filler for an 8 episode season. I mean, Rhaenyra meeting Alicent was edited together like a starwars transition. Like she was visiting jabba the hut. It didnt even make sense and the way it was shot felt like just a normal tv show. The pacing had been off too. Like every episode was slow walking in silence with dramatic music. They took the worst episode of season 1 which was episode 9. and just made that the first half of this season. Us fans hold this to a higher standard. It had me very worried. Thankfully, this episode was excellent. Breaking things down to the most basic primitive point so you can understand it says more about you. Believe it or not, some complaints are valid.

Rhaenys had to stay. If she had fled, Rhaenyra's allies would have all turned their backs on her afterwards. Rhaenys and Meleys were the only chance for the small castle. They were not allowed to flee.
But Meleys did a lot of damage. Cole's army was decimated and demoralized. Vhagar suffered serious injuries. And the allies now know that the Blacks are coming to help, risking their own lives in the process. It's damn important what Rhaenys has done here.

Rhaenys and Meleys could still win with Vhagar - Meleys might be smaller, but she was not THAT small, because of her size she was more agile and she was experienced. Killing Vhagar would take down the biggest threat from Greens, that is why Rhaenys risked (and she might also think she would avenge Luke). She realistically could - there will not one, but TWO instances during this war where smaller agile dragon will be able to mortally wound much bigger and experienced dragon (who wants to know which ones, can ask me😉).
It scene is somewhat change from the book - in the book Vhagar clashed into fighting Meleys and Sunfyre and all three fell to ground. After dust settled, Vhagar was able to fly again, but Meleys was dead and Sunfyre was critically injured. Book narrator even says that Meleys COULD beat Vhagar but she was unable to fight two dragons at once. So, while both in book and in show Sunfyre's tragic fate was rasult of Vhagar's actions, Meleys and Rhaenys's deaths happened because of ambush rather than one-on-one fight Meleys and Vhagar had in show.

The only dragons who could pose a threat to Vhagar and even defeat her, that lived in this time (apart from Cannibal not seen yet) are Vermithor "the bronze fury" (remember last Season Daemon singing to him in a cave) and Daemon's own dragon Caraxes "the blood wyrm" which although smaller than Vhagar but one of the most agile, strong and fierce that ever lived! Meleys "the red queen" was a worthy opponent though, very powerful and battle hardened but Vhagar was much bigger, RIP.

Meleys could have killed Vhagar, in the show they have things go down differently but in the books Meleys was fighting both dragons at the same time. Her experience and speed is the reason why she got the best of both dragons, but at the end 2 dragons were just too much. Sending them all crashing down with only Vhagar flying away. Show took it a different route but the same result. What I’m curious is when it comes time for Caraxes to take on Vhagar, I hope they really display the unique abilities Caraxes has and why he kills Vhagar

High Valyrian, the language that Aemond speaks to Aegon at Council, is House Targaryen's ancestral language and Targaryen children are all taught to speak it to family members as well as to their dragons. Aegon obviously didn't pay attention during those lessons, or has no aptitude for languages other than 'Common Tongue'.

    • @CouchPatroll

Targaryens do burn. Daenerys' situation was special because her hatching of her 3 dragons were caused by magic, it was not a normal experience. She quite literally brought dragons back into the world through magic ritual of sorts. I know Daenerys actually lost her hair in the books because of that fire, but that was changed in the show and I can't remember if Daenerys can still survive in fire in the books or if it was a one time thing, but anyway yeah in the show Daenerys could survive in fire but that was not normal for Targaryens, so the Targaryens in House of the Dragon can die from fire.
