We really enjoyed this one, and brought up some interesting details (we think) on how our home country's culture was used in a previous episode.. mainly the music from the sept back in episode 3!
It really does at time feel like we are going back and forth between set up and some scenes could have been cut short but overall we are loving the series and this season!

The blood of old Valyria is what gives the traits of white hair, pale skin and purple eyes in the books, Targaryens have the blood of old Valyria and Velaryons are referred to as most mythical so Targaryens inbred to keep the traits in there line.
Living in or being from Valyria doesn’t mean you have the blood of old Valyria so no not every family in Valyria befor the doom could claim a dragon but the blood of old Valyria is what gives the Targaryens the power to claim dragons not the other way around.
Velaryons were also included in Targaryen breeding and it’s also said in the book that the only house they consistently had relations with were house Velaryon because the traits came from them.
It’s also confirmed by the show creator and is why they specifically chose house velaryon to diversify, changing the thing that maid them so unique from purple eyes and white hair to dark skin and pale hair.

@@CouchPatroll No problem, there were lots of arguments after this episode premiered, some people aren’t happy with it and are trying to say its not what George RR wanted for the show, but it is confirmed and George RR is one of the show runners/ writers and hired Ryan .J Condal and Miguel Sapochnik personally.
The three of them decided what to make cannon between the books and the show together, a few things are different because ASOIAF is written more like a history book and they wanted to expand on the two family’s, so for the most part the only difference is that they are now black. I think it was a very good way of making the show more divers without changing much and using something George RR had already thought about.
Ps. The traits come from the blood of old Valyria not house Velaryon, but house Velaryon have the blood of old Valyria and also carry the traits, *correcting part of my first comment,

You don’t need Targaryen Blood to claim a dragon if you’re Valyrian and have Valyrian blood you can claim a dragon, before the doom of Valyria dragon riders were referred to as the blood of Velyria the only reason people associate Targaryens directly with dragons is because they wore the first to leave Valyria with dragons after the doom, Corleys married in to the family with Rhaenys and doesn’t have any direct Targaryen ancestors nether do Alyn or Adam, Steve Toussaint Corly and Abubakar Salim Alyn have both spoken about it, it was also confirmed in an interview by the show creator Ryan J. Condal.

@@Megasaurusify In an interview for Entertainment weekly Ryan J. Condal and Miguel papochnik confirm that Velaryons have the blood of old Valyria giving them the ability to claim a dragon.
Entertainment weekly Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Papochnik “The Velaryons, like those of House Targaryen, have the blood of Old Valyria in their veins. Though they don't generally care to mount dragons, they command the oceans on ships. It was their fleet that helped Aegon "The Conqueror" Targaryen take over Westeros years earlier. Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), nicknamed the Sea Snake after his favored ship, is the most famous of them, having traveled farther than any in Westeros.”
"Long, long ago when he was conceiving of this world, [Martin] himself had considered the idea of making Velaryons a race of Black people with silver hair that essentially came from the other side of the ocean and conquered Westeros," he says. "That's a fascinating idea and that always really stuck with me because it's such a stark image. I just thought, 'Well, why couldn't we do a version of that now?'"
Both Condal and Sapochnik felt strongly about featuring a person of color in a powerful position of nobility in the context of the story. In House of the Dragon, that would be Lord Corlys. Condal explains they "didn't want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism." They also wanted to avoid the recurring image of people of color showing up in fantasy sagas as pirates, slaves, and mercenaries.
"It's not any of that at all," Condal says. "I've seen people that look like myself on screen in these types of high-fantasy stories since I was born because I'm a white guy. What's it like for everybody else? ... We went back and just looked at the story and said, 'How do we do this in a way that can feel like it's done integrally with the story?'"

To answer your question Corlys has anscestors married into his line much like Steffon Darklyn did. Just not as far down the line........ maybe 1-3 generations younger. The blood was more pure and hes Laenor's half brother. Probably some connection there too. I think Ser Steffon had enough blood but he was just showing too much fear and the dragon changed it's mind.

Looks like they are setting her up for Sheepstealer, which I can't wait to see how it plays out. That dragon is almost as big as Vermithor but about 10-20 years younger since it has never had a rider before and grew up in the wild.

I believe the only reason that makes Adam ride a dragon is that he has Valyrian blood, but in the book, Adam and Alain are Lenore bastard, not Corlys, and this makes Adam's riding a dragon logical because Lenore has Targaryen blood from he’s mother Rhaenys.
And I really enjoyed watching the reaction. I love you all guys❤️‍🩹, keep going🫡

    • @PinkPanthers-nl7by

That is correct, however regardless of the change, going of the Lore from the books house Velaryon would still have the power to claim dragons having the blood of old Valyria.
I think they thought about it very carefully for the show knowing there are hard core fans of the lore.
The only difference really is that in the show some of the Velaryons like Addam use their heritage as Valyrian to claim dragons instead of it being because they are part Targaryen, so the difference is in the motivations of the characters but not the actual lore, since in the books traditionally house Velaryon don’t claim dragons but still can so it’s still logical and a good expansion in my opinion.

In general House Velaryon and house Targaryen have married in to each other’s families I didn’t say they haven’t haha, but no Corlys in the show doesn’t have any direct Targaryen ancestry he married in to the family with Rhaenys.
Steve Toussaint who plays Corlys and Abubakar Salim who plays Allyn have both spoken about representing house Velaryon and the lineage for the show, and again It has been confirmed by the show creators, both families have the blood of Old Valyria which is what gives them there power so regardless of there intermarriages house Velaryon can claim dragons.

Adam, the new dragon rider of Seasmoke, has Valyrian blood like Targaryens. So... He can claim a dragon (or the dragon a rider😂, unusual...) because that and because there's been a lot of intremarriage between Targaryens and Velaryons in time.

    • @CouchPatroll
      @CouchPatroll  Месяц назад

Yeah I guess given how much these two families married into each other it makes sense, in that case Corlys himself could claim a dragon though, if he was younger it'd be a pretty great choice!!

Seriously you are yet another person who don't like the way Jace was presented in season 1 and i am like: what?!!! 😳😳😳😳 (Adult) Jacaerys was in two episodes in s1 so there was hardly time to gave him justice, but they absolutely managed it: they showed perfectly core of his person - intellectual, brave, noble, graceful and brave, and at the same time proud and willing to prove himslef as worthy heir to the throne. I don't get what is is to dislike there. 🤷🏻‍♂ If anything, I am of opinion he was better shown in those 2 episodes of season 1 than thorugh whole season 2 so far when he is basically reduced to "Mom, I want go"/"No, Jace, you can't". They even changed his relationship with Daemon - in season 1 finale he was clearly distrustful of Daemon's defiance towards him and Rhaenyra and now he wants Daemon back as if he forgot he had his own problems with his stepfather (and of course Dameon is great millitary asset and it's good Jace appreciates him, but I don't get why they even created tensions between them in season 1 finale in first place, if they almost instantly in s 2 made Jace his stepfather's fanboy and removed interesting dynamics they created specifically for TV show, because it was absent from book). As book reader I am actually very disappointed with what they did with Jace - he was de facto leader, as Rhaenyra still mourned Lucerys by this point of story, he was much more active in council and many of his book dialogues were actually given in show to other characters (in book it was Jace who said Daemon's line about Vhagar; it was Jace, not Rhaenyra, who sent Joffrey and Rhaena to Vale and other brothers to Pentos; and it was Jace, not Baela, who made their grandfather Hand of the Queen). It's good to see people still like Jace, but he was much better shown in season 1 than now, and he is pale shadow of whom he was in book. 😞😞

I can''t speak for other people, but we like what the actor shows, acting wise, he seems much better this season. Of course, due to the nature of adaptations certain things are remixed or cut, if it follows the books then the main characters of season 1 would barelly have anything to do in the 2nd season, so they made changes. I like how he is writen, the tension between him and Daemon in that 1 episode may be build up in future seasons, they haven't interacted since as far as I remember, and him telling his mother they need Daemon makes total sense, not only is he a good military man, he has one of the most powerful dragons around, at this time Vermithor doesn't have a rider, so they need him even more. I liked how he aranged things with the freys, the short talk with the starks, and how they kept him being the guy to push for the dragon seeds, his roll is cut and yet, is significant enough for people that don't know the story to like him and not be mad about anything. I don't really understand the whole loyalty to this specific book in the series, the book itself is writen in a way where you can second guess almost everything, even Daemon's end is something that can be debated. It has a lot of holes and is generally...really difficult to adapt, I have experience in screen writing and also work as a film editor, I can give you a profesional opinion - this adaptation is veeery tough to pull off. The comparisons to GoT are very unfair at times, had these guys been in charge of GoT we likely would have gotten a far better series back in the day.

@@CouchPatroll Some thigs in book can be debated, but others are clear. They basically ignore most things that made Jacaerys great character. Jacaerys in scenes with Freys was badass, but this scene was for nothing - it was complete filler and plot could go without it, as in book Freys supported Rhaenyra right away. Jacaerys could be in this scene with Baela, persuading Corlys. I woould love to see scenes with Jace that weren't in book but not on expans of those that actually were.
