    The robbery of season 1 was Paddy not receiving any Emmy nominations for his role. But apparently, when GRRM found out, he texted paddy and said, "Your Vicerys was much better than mine." I guess that more than makes up for the silly Emmys. :)

    The Velaryons do indeed have some Targaryen blood. The two houses intermarried many times. Aegon the Conqueror's mother was a Velaryon. And to a dragon, Corlys's bastard son probably smells very similar to Laenor, who was Seasmoke's previous rider and Addam's half brother.

    I find Mysaria’s feelings genuine. She remarked on how Rhaenyra looked great with a sword earlier in the episode, then when she gave the message that the gift was sent, she had a bit of a smile. Very sweet. 😅
    I also found that kiss scene very similar to the one between Robb and Talisa back in season 2. Both with the story Mysaria is telling also involving parental abuse and evil, and her true feelings.

      it could also be a power play. This what Mysaria did for a living after all. She told Rheanyra herself that she made herself valuable to powerful men. That didn't work so shes making herself valuable to powerful women with the same methods. Whether her feelings are genuine or not, the power play is the first and main reason she is doing this.

      @@awhartig5847 The only choice Mysaria has is Rheanyra or Otto and she thinks Otto tried to kill her after promising to stop the child fights. So its not surprising she went for who she thinks is the lesser evil. She is also the one trying to remind Rheanyra of the smallfolk constantly. And she does it in the way that Rheanyra will find benefit in. Rheanyra isn't exactly thinking of the smallfolk well-being, only how the smallfolk can help her, and that's through their well-being.

      Interesting. I instantly thought that Mysaria was seeing that Rhaenyra was starved for physical touch and affection and that she (Mysaria) was leaning into that to secure her position as a close confidante. It's not like I think right now that Mysaria is faking her allegiance or that she'll turn on Rhaenyra, I just felt like the kiss from Mysaria's side was calculated and not a passionate whim. It's always interesting to me to see how everyone interprets this stuff differently

    I love the way the show does the religious reverence built around dragons. I bet all the handlers have been told their whole lives that is a possible outcome of their service. When that dragon handler went down my only thought was it’s like those World War I pilots who didn’t have parachutes but carried pistols in case they didn’t want to roll the dice on surviving a crash landing, or if they’re plane was burning up too fast.

    • @Skye_Writer

      @@SpiralSine6 They don't need a Targaryen descendant necessarily; it could just be that Corlys's Valyrian genes -- the blood he was so adamant made his house the better one to wed to Viserys and later to Rhaenyra -- is good enough. I would not blame alicent at all for taking H the sept. By wanting to be with her daughter in her favorite place/sacred spot, she was showing actual growth, and being an actual mother for once. She also tried to stop the escalation of conflict. Love you, Alicent. 💚

    • @ancatdal
      @ancatdal 2 месяца назад +3

      I don't think it's fair to place blame on Alicent for that one either, how could she know? Especially considering that last they were in public, Helaena was shown an immense amount of support from the smallfolk.
      I think Alicent was trying to have a space for their grief, as she made once with Rhaenyra when they were young. We know Alicent goes to the sept to feel close to those she has lost.
      I'm not sure that's what Helaena needs, prayers, but I also don't think Alicent has any idea what Helaena needs, and tries her best based on what she knows has helped herself.

    • @acdragonrider
      @acdragonrider 2 месяца назад +2

      @@ancatdal Yeah, Alicent definitely doesn't know her children well and how she can help them but from all we've seen over the last few episodes, she's really trying now (little by little) to extend a hand as she goes through everything she's been experiencing too: her loss of station and relevance at court, her recent meeting with Rhaenyra and everything she said about the Conqueror. So on and on.
      My favorite scene of this episode, and maybe one of my favorites of the series was definitely her farewell to Gwayne and how Olivia Cooke brings out her performance when G is telling A about Daeron. How her face changes when G say "he's kind." That hit me so hard.

    • @ancatdal
      @ancatdal 2 месяца назад +3

      @@acdragonrider I enjoyed that scene a lot as well. It was so very clear that she was desperate to hear that specifically, that he was kind. Not impressive with a sword, or with a dragon, or with the ladies.
      And it was devastating to hear her consider whether it was the influence, or lack thereof, of court, or of her, that made him turn out differently. It's sad that she puts so much solely on her own shoulders. She did mess up, of course she did, being a 16 year old reluctant mother going through marital rapes, and suffering the break-up of her most important relationship.
      But Viserys deserves a lot of that blame she puts on herself here. He was the grownup with 16 years of experience being a parent, and how much parenting did he do?
      It's clear that Aegon and Almond have suffered from emotional neglect, but that is as much on Viserys as it is on Alicent, if not more so.

    • @acdragonrider
      @acdragonrider 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ancatdalNone of them fully understands how to be a good parent. It’s part of the world they lived in, how they were raised. Viserys lost his father and mother early and would blame himself to the end of his life for ordering the death of his lady wife. Alicent only has her old town religious background thus her tendency to believe in sin and that she’s being punished.. and it’s a poor combo with being raised by the insane but politically astute
      Otto Hightower. I usually don’t like using the modern phrases of systematic oppression, toxicity etc. but it’s really that which is inherent to the iron throne and you can see that transition going back to Jahaerys’ reign where so many of his kids turned up at odds with their father, who was also reputed as the best Targaryen king. Definitely my favorite Targaryen king but it doesn’t mean they were perfect parents by any means. So many kids who were expected to do their duty for the crown and ultimately either died in the attempt or rebelled.
      Daenerys: early of sickness
      Aemon died from a mortal wound.
      Baelon died in office as hand of the king.

      @@acdragonrider Oh for sure the intertwined nature of family and politics has messed up, to some extent, everyone in the feudal system!
      King Jaehaerys I almost certainly ensured the death of his daughter Daella, by insisting that she marry while still quite young; by treating her as a political object, rather than as a daughter. A father would have looked at his young, small-framed and anxious daughter, and decided to give her time to mature, or to never make her marry unless it was her desire. Daella was not integral to the succesion, she could have been spared.
      It's so tragic how the same sort of fate ended up befalling Daella's daughter Aemma. Doomed to die in childbirth, reduced to being an object for the continuation of the system.

    "Thats a cool name, Darklyn" indeed, and a nice sigil. Unfortunately the darklyns made the mistake of kidnapping aerys II for which their house was extinguised. House hollard, of which dontos hollard appears in game of thrones, was almost entirely destroyed with aerys having each of them killed in various horrible forms but i think the worst of which was lady Serala. House hollards lands were taken, their villages burned and their castle torn down. It was the defiance of duskendale that started the kings road down paranoia and madness
    "He looks like drogon!" Given that in the show (i specify in the show so that book nerds dont start arguments about the book and the show being the same when theyre not) syrax is the mother of danys eggs its entirely possible that seasmoke is their father and they take all their looks from him
    The sticks arent a defense, theyre like a visual aid to the dragon as humans are so small by comparison, nothing other than a scorpion will defend against a dragon and a few dragonkeepers dying is preferable to a dragon dying. The sticks are used more often on younger dragons with less restraint and weaker bonds. This can be seen (i think) when jace is training vermax in season 1. Vermax goes for him and the dragonkeepers stop him with the sticks
    Seasmoke changed his mind because ser steffon was too nervous and slow in his approach, he needed more confidence

    I'm so happy to see Paddy as Viserys again! He has been missed. 🖤 Daemon getting therapy-dream-illusions sessions at Harrenhal is somehow good for him and it's interesting but he needs to leave that place now.
    Masterful plan to send food to the "small folk" during a blockade made by Corlys fleet. 😌
    Poor Helaena did not deserve to be traumatized like that! Helaena has done nothing wrong, leave her alone or let her fly on her dragon! She's the only green who I don't want hurt or killed. 🥺
    I think the guard who got kicked and punched to death were one of Aegon's friends. They were not ready to be guards at all. 🤦‍♀️
    Larys and Aegon's scene was very good and made me feel sorry for them. And they are the worst people! Good job, actors and writers. 😆
    Alicent's son Daeron being kind without being raised by her must have hurt her immensely to hear. It's only Helaena who isn't terrible of the siblings in King's Landing.
    I totally ship Rhaenyra and Mysaria!! 😍 It may lead to some betrayal in the end but I hope not.
    Rhaenyra has been queer coded ever since (s1, ep1) she laid on Alicent's lap and talked about them riding around on her dragon and eating cake together. Rhaenyra and Alicent either had a short fling or Alicent was secretly crushing on Rhaenyra and got mad when she found out that Rhaenyra lied to her + slept with Criston. Rhaenyra could also have had a crush on Alicent and got mad when her father chose Alicent to be his new wife without knowing about it. Alicent should have told her. So everything that happened could technically have been avoided if they could have been a couple from the beginning... 👀 But let's be real, probably not. And that wouldn't have been a very good show. 😅
    SEASMOKE to Addam: Get on loser, we're gonna bond! 🐲
    Will be cool to watch Rhaenyra meeting Addam.

    The blood of old Valyria is what gives the traits of white hair, pale skin and purple eyes in the books, it’s also what gives them the power to claim a dragons Targaryens have the blood of old Valyria and so do house Velaryon.
    Living in or being from Valyria doesn’t mean you have the blood of old Valyria so not every family in Valyria before the doom could claim a dragon but the blood of old Valyria is what gives the Targaryens the power to claim dragons not the other way around.
    Velaryons were also included in Targaryen breeding and it’s also said in the book that the only house they consistently had relations with were house Velaryon because they Carrie the traits.
    It was confirmed by the show creator Ryan J. Condal in an interview for Entertainment weekly and is why they specifically chose house Velaryon to diversify, changing the thing that maid them so unique from purple eyes and white hair to dark skin and pale hair.

      Exactly. This is why the 2 families intermarry so often and why the Targaryens marry within their own family so much. Their claim that they do it to keep the blood pure/strong isn't just some snooty aristocratic notion. In all of Westeros, they are the only descendants of Old Valyria. Blood magic made them able to bond with and ride dragons, and we saw in this episode how important that Valyrian blood is (supposedly). Rhaenyra was more focused on the _noble_ aspect, finding someone in the aristocracy with an old claim to Valyrian heritage, rather than looking for a closer claim to that heritage who maybe isn't noble. It seems that Targaryen princes have been rather liberal with their favors through the years, and there are lots of bastards around who may have that Valyrian blood.

    You need *Valyrian* blood to bond dragons. Velaryons hail from Valyria themselves and they intermingled with the Targaryens before having lived alongside for centuries. So Corlys's line has the potential.
    Good catch, the wild dragon in the Vale is indeed Sheepstealer.
    The two hatchlings that came to the Vale with the children are Tyraxes belonging to Joffrey, Rhaenyra's youngest "Velaryon" son, and Stormcloud belonging to Aegon the Younger, Rhaenyra's and Daemon's eldest son.
    This is not the Sept of Baelor. Baelor the Blessed will not be born for further 14 years. This is the old sept that will be replaced with the Great Sept.

    29:46: Rioting is a good strategy though. The people are mad and they’ll stoke the fire of unrest that rhaenyra could easily exploit. The main isssue is that the people can also be dangerous.

    I hear the sentiment that Alicent is a bad mom, specifically to Aegon, a lot and that always confuses me because it seems like everyone forgets (or doesn't care) that Aegon assaulted a young girl in the castle and Alicent had to clean up his mess, and it's like... do you really expect someone to be a "good mother" to someone who would do that?

    The sept isnt called baelor yet. The sept doesn't get named baelor until a king with that name further down the targayen line.

      It's actually suggested heavily that danys dragon eggs come from Dreamfyres eggs that Elissa Farman stole from her targaryen princess lover around 70ish years before HOTD

    Regarding which dragons and children were sent to the Vale, which you were debating in the intro: Baela (daughter of Laena and Daemon) was sent with four eggs, Joffrey ( the youngest son of Harwin/Laenor/Rhaenyra) who has a dragon named Tyraxes, Lil Aegon (son of Daemon and Rhaenyra) who has a dragon named Stormcloud, and his brother Viserys (who does not have a dragon).
    And Stormcloud is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. He's just sitting there while the lil guys play with toy dragons. I wonder if he likes to play with human toys.
    ETA: Alyn and Addam are both Corlys' sons and they have the same mother. We haven't met the mother though.

    I thought this was a solid episode. I thought Alys was just a hallucination until Ser Simon said her name lol. I don't like Aegon or Larys but I'm secretly interested in seeing what they get up to. Aemond 's ego needs to be seriously checked. He's smart for bringing back Otto tho. I hope Rhaena is able to tame the wild dragon in the Vale. Just a solid episode that I thoroughly enjoyed.

    It's not uncommon in the world of George RR Martin for witches to try to manipulate men with power. We saw it in GOT with the red witch and lord Stannis.

    About the sticks i think they act same way as any other tool to train, once small a stick works to guide and the dragon fears it, once they get bigger i dont think they realize how big they are and they keep respecting the stick same as when they were hatchlings..
