Another movie of children saving nature. Wonderful. But why do the majority children forget this message every time they finish high school?
I support A24s decision to put Willem Dafoe in everything
Here here!
@@iluvtonyhawk I support A24s decision to keep picking movies with Willem Dafoe in it.
By the way, they collaborate with filmmakers who hire casting directors. A24 has influence on getting high profile actors since they invest in and distribute the films.
@@iluvtonyhawk Casting directors don't put actors in movies either. They make the recommendations and the director/producer eventually decide.
Everything !

the cinematography and color grading in this movie is so gorgeous it's worth seeing for that alone, like thank fvking god for a movie with color and contrast again, i am almost weeping for joy. Director of photography, color graders, and lighting crews i am kissing you.
It's A24..

Looks AI generated
@@BjjDrillers Oh no! It’s not real?
@@BjjDrillersIt looks beautiful, but it definitely has an airbrushed, AI-generated feel. The wide shots, for example, at 1:34 and 2:14, reveal green screen or digital compositing that isn't seamlessly blended, adding to the overall uncanny feel.
But, I'd still kiss the homies for this. @sabriel_

Yes! So true!

This feels like live action How To Train Your Dragon meets ET with an A24 vibe and Willem Dafoe… in other words perfection
This is absolutely why I’m planning on seeing this. Fingers crossed, if I see this DAY ONE.
Throw in a bit of "Gremlins", and yeah - spot on!
How ya gonna leave out Mandolorian?
And Hilda.
Yeah!!!! I was definitely reminded of ET!
Looks like an 80’s movie with current FX. Sold.

It looks like an AI generated movie.
@@1978pqthe film is primarily made with physical puppetry, animatronics, and matte paintings. As it was filmed in 2021 there is little to no possibility of the use of AI, unless it was done in last minute post production
I got to see an early showing of it. Even the soundtrack is 80s instrumental. Lots of trumpets :D

This looks great. Love that they are using practical effects for the small creature and not cgi.
It's crazy that this is a debut feature film. The director is most known for directing one of Björk's music videos (and a few others), and now he's doing this. And this film looks stunning too. Hope it turns out well.
It's A24
@@willmac623A24 can make bad films. This comes from someone that saw their first released film theatrically, and I’ve seen most at festivals or theatrically since. I’ve also seen every film under their banner generally.
A lot of famous directors started with music videos
Don't act like it's not cool tho
Do you know which Björk music video he directed?
Baby Yoda: “Looks like we got competition.”
“Competition.. looks like we have”
Haha, so true! Let's see if it works.
I saw the thumbnail & literally immediately thought "oh, it's maybe baby Yoda". A24 be like "we need something we can make into plushies & the Lamb idea isn't going to work."
Looks almost exactly like a real life monkey (the golden snub nosed monkey), slightly modified to be a fantasy creature.
😂
Willem Dafoe is an absolute gem. May his career continue to shine bright.
The trailer gives major 80’s fantasy film vibes. I’m totally gonna see this. This is the type of movie we need more of nowadays. It reminds me so much of the type of films I would constantly watch on VHS from the 80’s or early 90’s. Ochi reminds me so much of Gizmo from Gremlins. This film is making me feel like a kid again, when I was obsessed with films like E.T, The NeverEnding Story, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Gremlins, Willow, Flight Of The Navigator and many others. For me, we need more films to bring back that 80’s style quality and techniques of using more puppetry, practical effects, models and animatronics. Whenever rewatching those films from the past, I’m constantly reminded why those films and those past eras were where it’s at
me too, i miss those times
I like how they clearly used puppetry rather than just resorting to CGI for Ochi.
On the contrary some of the effects look like AI which i'm kinda concerned about
The melancholy of this movie is giving "Where The Wild Things Are". I'm here for it!
'Hounds of Love' is actually my favorite Kate Bush song. Always wanted to hear it in the movies.
So, thank you, guys.
Cringe modern music doesn't belong in all movies. It doesn't fit here.
@821lancevance 'Hounds of Love' is from 1985.
@@peterfrank3365to give them the benefit of the doubt, they didn’t say this was modern music
Hello Earth and Jig of Life are good, too. :D
@peterfrank3365 the edition of that song in the trailer was recorded in 1985? Or is it a modern recording?
I can already tell this movie will bring the waterworks out of me. Big 80s adventure film vibes, I'm in!
Got some real ET vibes from this trailer and I loved it.
Just saw this movie & yes it is as good as this trailer would lead you to believe. It's not just for kids, we are older & absolutely loved it!

Saw this trailer for the first time tonight before "Last Breath" and it brought both me and my bestie to tears. This looks like it's going to be this year's "Wild Robot."
Just saw this movie yesterday.... It is amazing and heartfelt. The young German girl is perfect for this role and she delivers big time. Anyone without tears at the end has no heart!!!
Kate Bush "Hounds of Love" in the trailer scored a lot of points with me!
Same here. I hope they actually use it in the movie. A24 have a habit of using songs in the trailers that don't actually feature in the films.
It was right then that I started tearing up. Looking forward to this one.

For those wondering
Movie takes place in Carpathian Mountains, probably in the Ukrainian part of them. It's my guess since Ochi on Ukrainian means eyes.
And as somebody who lives there, I can confirm that this type of shit happens every Thursday
Ochi means Eye(eyes) in romanian. The movie was also filmed in Romania. There are romanian Carpathians(Transfagarasan) and romanian villages. The action takes place somewere in Ukraine, i guess.
@Mr.Magnificent Maybe in the Romanian part, maybe both
Who knows
@@Mr.Magnificent There is a moment when Willem Dafoe sings a Ukrainian song in this film. So it's about Ukraine.
@@Mr.Magnificent yeah, as was said, Defoe is singing a Ukrainian folk song, and there are plenty of Ukrainian signs in the store - but all in all, I’m happy the Transcarpathian region is becoming more represented in cinema again. It’s a marvellous place, with culture thriving all around - Slavic, Ugric, and Latin cultures mixed together, preserving some ancient rituals and beliefs. You couldn’t find a more racy place on earth

This movie looks wonderful! Going to see this weekend!
I hadn't paid much attention to what production companies were making what films (other than "Disney is Evil"), until recently with all the buzz about A24. Going back to see some of their films, I realize what a great contribution they've made. So many creative projects that imho have revitalized the film industry, including what I felt was the finest intelligent sci-fi film in a decade, Ex Machina, with only a $15 mil budget! So many great movies without the giant budgets and promotion of the biggies in the industry, during a period that many had lamented as a nadir of creativity. A24 has enabled audiences to get exposure to many talented creators which may have otherwise remained in obscurity. Thanks!!
My only complaint with this film is that the lead actress was difficult to understand. She mumbled/enunciation a bit off.

William dafoe is a chameleon of an actor . He fits into any character effortlessly
You know I'm something of a chameleon, myself
That he fits don't make him a chameleon. Disappearing into a role and becoming unrecognisable does. When have you seen him do that? That's right, never.
@@n.u.k.2188 He's pretty unrecognizable. I mean characters in "Poor Things" or "Tom & Viv" or "To Live and Die in L.A." or "The Last Temptation of Christ" are nothing alike. The man can play everything, and can disappear into not just roles, but also different environments. He makes arthouse films in Europe, then goes back to studio films in America and then does some avant-garde film in Asia, he does everything.
We should see the movie in a theater in order to support the director of the movie lsaiah Saxon, whose house and his belongings have been destroyed during the Altadena Wildfire.
And no movie with Willem Dafoe in it can be totally bad - and the Ochi puppet looks adorable 😉
Ahhhh this looks brilliant! The saturated colours and dreamlike softness and the ratio... Ahhh looks beautiful!
Ochi is a more family friendly furby
William Dafoe please be the joker in a joker movie 👍
So like a mythological Moonrise Kingdom?
And of course, William Defoe kills it as always
I can see the points of reference and influence: ET, Hunger Games, Icelandic music videos, etc, but I think the choices in world design, color grading, camera work, etc, indicate that the director may create something unique and great here.
I think we're witnessing Willem Dafoe at his prime.
to be fair, it seems like he was always in his prime. Ever since the mid-80s, the man just keeps delivering great work non-stop.
