If she ran away, all the black allies would not be able to trust their loyalties. It's not hard to understand: if you abandon your vassals, your vassals abandon you. Secondly... would you have killed your brother's children so easily? She could hope for a peace treaty, during the ceremony

Sorry but no, in the books both aegon and Aemond trap her so she couldn’t leave anyways. Makes much more sense.
In war if you’re at a disadvantage you regroup and try again, suiciding only makes sense if the objective is crucial to the point it’s worth the risk, especially if reinforcements are coming but this is a small castle with no backup.

@@Birdflaps20 there is NO change from the books, unlike asoiaf it is written from an extremely bias point of view of the blacks, this is called reading comprehension. Despite Rhaenys dying she went out like a legend and the Greens have lost this one. Cole's plan didn't go as planned, Aemond let his feelings get in the way because I heard this guy hold grudges so he purposely burnt his brother, Aegon lost Sunfyre and his legs, and I know Aegon chose to go to the war himself but this would put a conflict in Alicent and Cole's relationship when Alicent finds out Aegon has no legs. The show already foreshadows us about when Alicent drank the same drink she gave to that maiden who got pregnant off of Aegon. Alicent didn't want Cole's child I don't blame her Cole has anger issues when he's mad.

Sunfyre is the one who deserved better. That gorgeous and faithful golden dragon that Aegon was flying on. But as other have said, Meleys was one of the few dragons that could fight against Vhagar solo... they were both veterans of many battles, but Vhagar's size also gave her an age disadvantage. She was far slower than Meleys, and Rhaenys was not stranger to battle on dragonback herself. If it had just been Vhagar and Aemond there, I think Rhaenys and Meleys would have won. But that first strike by Vhagar while the other two dragons were tangled up in battle took away any advantages the smaller dragon held. But now the King and his dragon are out of the war, leaving the Greens with only two dragons... Vhagar and Dreamfyre (Haelena's dragon).

Vaghar is freaking enormous. The older dragon of the world, and one of the three dragon of Aegon the conqueror. Aegon use Baleron, Vaghar and Meraxes to unite the 7th realm of Westeros, so Vaghar have experimented much battle than all other dragons.
But Vaghar is mighty but Vaghar is also old and slow. Some other dragons younger than Vaghar is also powerfull. Meleys is one of the dragons in Westeros that can challenge Vaghar.
Meleys is about 60 year old. She was the fastest dragon of Westeros when she was young. Her first rider was princess Alyssa Targaryan, the mother of Viserys and Daemon. Rhaenys became her rider 42 years before the dance of Dragon. She is one of the rare dragons that could have defeated Vaghar, she is in her prime, she is faster, and her rider Rhaenys is very experienced.
Why didn't Rhaenys run away? She knows that she is one of the few people who might be able to defeat Vaghar, and she knows that if she doesn't fight him, then it might be up to Rhaenyra, or Baella to have to fight Vaghar... She couldn't run away ...Because she refused to see her granddaughter die between Vaghar's fangs, she had to try. If Rhaenys had defeated Vaghar, she would have ended the war before it became too brutal.
Caraxes, Daemon's dragon, is younger than Meleys by a few years (but they are roughly the same generation). Caraxes's first rider was the father of Rhaenys, Aemon Targaryen, the first born of king Jaehaerys (the old king). This dragon is very fast and agressive and have the experience of many war (Dornish's war, Triarchy's war, etc...). So technicaly, this is one of the most experienced dragons in war. It is not the only dragon that can challenge Vaghar.
Vaghar is not the only old dragon of Westeros. They are other dragon older than Meleys. Like the Cannibal, a wild dragon that has never had a master and is said to be potentially as large as Vaghar. And there is also Vermithor, the old king's personal dragon. This dragon is almost a century old, it is the dragon that we see at the end of season 1 (for whom Daemon sings). This dragon is almost as colossal as Vaghar, and is equally experienced. He is without a dragon tree. There is also Silverwing, the dragon of Queen Alysane, the wife of the old king. Also without a dragon tree, but also more massive than Meleys and Caraxes. Another dragon of this generation is Sheepstealer. Also without a dragon tree, also quite massive.
And there are of course the dragons of Rhaenyra's generation: Syrax, and Sea Smoke, younger dragons (but older than those of Baella or Jacaerys).
There are also many other dragons.

Rhaenys had to try and fight - she had a chance to end the war right there and then if she killed Aemond - Greens would be almost defenseless after losing both dragons and would have to surrender.
I think it was part her guilt for not acting in the Dragonpit in S1E9; and partially the fact that she came there to defend the castle and Rhaenyra's subjects and that job was not done.
She can't just escape to save herself and leave Rhaenyra's vassals to Cole (who executed the last lord he captured) and Aemond (who essentially just attempted to kill his own brother). Rhaenys is no coward.

Aemond and Cole's plan was to ambush whichever rider+dragon showed up to defend Rook's Rest. If it was Rhaenyra then perfect, if it was Daemon then that'd be good too, but taking out Rhaenys+Meleys was definitely worthwhile. If none showed up, then all the Black's allies would see that they couldn't depend on them to come to their aid when they were under attack. It was a good plan, but Aegon wasn't part of it, or even in on it. He just got drunk, decided to go have a fight, and got himself and Sunfyre f'd up good and proper. Aemond didn't plan in advance to kill Aegon: he was just being an opportunist. When he saw Aegon join the fight he held back, probably hoping that Aegon would get humiliated at worst or killed at best, and then he flamed both other dragons, again not caring, or maybe hoping, that Aegon would come off badly.
Rhaenys went back because of the issue of showing comittment to the Black's allies: if she'd fled Vhagar then all the Black's allies would know that they couldn't depend on Rhaenyra for support if they were attacked by the Greens' dragons. Also, on a personal level, it would have been cowardly to run from a fight and Rhaenys was nothing if not brave. RIP The Queen That Never Was...

Meleys, but close enough, since what you spelled is how it's pronounced.

I think Aegon is supposed to be about 22.

    • @lynnraven6101
      @lynnraven6101 18 дней назад

He should be about 19 or 20 according to the actual timeline. 16 years passed since he was around 3. If the showrunners themselves claim he’s 22 ig they don’t know what they’re doing in terms of consistency lol

@@Leo_ofRedKeep Yes, I’m aware. But we are talking about the show, where Alicent and Rhaenyra are the same age and Aegon and Rhaenyra are 15 years apart as opposed to 10. That’s what I was referring to :)

@@penguin50279 going back 2 more times. There is a reason why in the books she was simply ambushed and all 3 dragons crashed. This going back was stupid AF. Basically the end was losing Blacks biggest dragon, one of their better people, and still losing the castle... If I am a lord on the fence I would not think that was a win in any way. If she had returned and the story was, Rhaenys killed hundreds of men and took down the king and his dragon and then had to retreat because of Vhagar, I would still be on the fence.

@@randallwilliamson3838 i saw it as she had a chance to take out the greens biggest weapon and she took it. meleys does stand a chance against vhagar, the only problem was the stupid sneak attack. i wish they wrote that part better cuz it makes rhaenys look a lil dumb lol
