In my family that made some of us weary. Including my uncle (a life long mechanic) who basically gave it up and put his attention into muscle cars. I'm interested in starting at the "old" age of 44 and if I do I can say with certainty I will learn very slowly and probably never intentionally wheelie. However, the thought of unintentionally coming up off the pavement scares me and makes me think I'll have to practice just enough to keep me safe.
that was the traction control set to 2 not letting you wheelie at the beginning of your cruise. saved me a few times while I was learning on this as my first bike. you can just let completely off the throttle to change modes. love this bike so much
This is an awesome bike. I have one and it fantastic. It is nimble and has power on tap in any gear at any rpm due to the linear torque curve. You can ride it easy in town but also insane on quiet stretches of highway. This is a keeper for me 100% !

The only downside was that it constantly begs you to do stuff you shoudln't be doing if your license has any value to you.
Yep that's how my xsr 900 was. It begged to go faster. Got the death wobble once in a corner at around 130. I ended up selling it because I have a son and he wants me to stick around. The xsr won't let you wheelie unless you turn off the traction control. You do that and it's coming up with too much throttle.

Like the XSR900 I had for a short time they are a wonderfull bike yamaha really nailed the 3 cylinder engine for the street. Few bikes put that kind of stupid grin on my face at my age. Last Sept ran across a good deal on blue 2018 MT-10 that just felt so right so had to let the XSR900 go. I now have no regrets the MT-10 suspension and stability alone make it worth it. The engine and transmission are a jewel. Got to give Yamaha a big thumbs up for all the FZ/MT/XSR series of motorcycles.
Can confirm. Demo'd the MT-10 last year at a Yamaha event, and the suspension was the FIRST thing I noticed when I set off on it! I can honestly see it replacing my FJ-09 in a couple of years.
How you liking it? I was considering this, a CB650R, and a XSR700...but I'm finding some pretty sweet deals on the 900 which is making me seriously consider it.
Yeah that's sick. My last bike was an 03 FZ1, and was the culmination of 25 years of riding. I sold it a few years ago because I thought I was too old, but it's hard to ride for 40 years and just give it up. These three bangers seem to be everywhere now a days and I really love mine naked. I have got to try a triple.
Great video, but I gotta comment on some things. The tank covers are aluminum, not plastic. Traction control won't impact wheelies, riding mode will. If your arms feel like they're being "pulled from their sockets" then you're riding wrong (hold on the bike using legs and core, keep arms loose). My opinion: love my XSR900 but too much power for a naked.
Great points Looking for something after getting rid of my Daytona 675, this meets the power, but the torque is bonkers! So right now I'm torn between the XSR700 and the new Triumph Trident 660
I just got mine a few days ago, Standard mode, TC at 2 for streets, 1 for riding hard. Great bike, nicely fast and friendly til 8-9k, the tanks does squeak and sound alot, the drive-by-wire throttle is terrible, pretty tall but a lowering kit helps.
@@thomaspfaff8723 The XSR900 puts over 100hp to the ground around mid-9k rpm, with peak torque around 8.5k. I never timed how long it took me to accelerate to over 100mph but its quick. Without the fairing providing some aerodynamic benefit, a rider will literally blow off the bike unless they're glued flat to the tank. It's certainly ridable but most naked sport bikes or standards are powered for a more casual and manageable ride. The same bike with 70-80hp is just as fun. Having said all that, I bought mine BECAUSE it has over 100hp at the rear wheel (along with great electronics and brakes), though I rarely ride in A-mode and it's still a fun bike.
Had an 07 fz1 converted to fz1n. Absolutely loved it. Dropped a tooth on the front sprocket, raised a tooth on the rear. Air box mod, eliminated the secondary throttle bodies. Power commander with a few tunes that I switched between. Gutted the cats, tried a few different slip on pipes. Had an extended swing arm at one point but switched back after a while. That bike was way too fast. But it looked so good. Nice video.
With B mode and traction control on 2 this thing is super smooth. Bought one as my second motorcycle after a KTM390 and have put crazy miles on it. It’s a fire breather no doubt but it is more than manageable. If you can control a throttle and the clutch you will have ZERO issue with the power.
@@samitis2437 'they' say its gutless I was really thinking about your bike... I started feeling dizzy deciding between the superbikes I turnes myself off for now
Cr55zy I bought my Z900rs right off the sales floor no test drive NOTHING.. this kawai is a beast bro!! Hope your able to get one soon you won’t regret it!!
Brings back memories of my '02 Street Triple... which I sold after 2 years because I was just getting too crazy on it without even thinking about it. I love the triple engine but I'll probably get the MT-07 just so I don't start doing 90mph in a 35mph zone.
This is awesome!! I like power any and every time I need it. I like riding cruiser style bikes but growing up in my teens I bought a 2004 triumph speed four. I loved how low I could scrape my knees Corning and then shooting out of it full throttle. I miss having a rocket and this is right up my alley! Thanks for the video amigo!
All that power, and it sounds like it's revving about 5700 rpms at 70mph. What the heck? What is the top gear ratio like? How smooth is the engine? These things are critically important. Thanks!
I own one. Great bike. Two issues. Like a lot of Yamahas if your ride aggressively it burns gas like crazy. Second issue is the stupid speed limiter. It cuts power at 129mph. Paid for the limiter to be removed from the ecu and it tops out around 150 now.
CBR550 glad you asked bro. It’s exhilarating! Dial in the front and rear suspension to make her firm and she is stable. I have a widndScreen, tuck, and your golden. To each his or her own though but I don’t know why you wouldn’t 🤷🏾♂️
I think our definition of "burning gas like crazy" differs quite a bit, Fine Sir! I owned an XSR900 and rode 11000 km. Even if I rode very spirited (and way faster than Review-Brah did in this video) the mileage would only go down to 17km/liter. That's 40mpg as the lowest!
sighheinrich I’m not knocking your experience bro I’m just talking about the reality of mine. I’ve done 9500 miles in a year on my XSR and I never get 40mph. Like I said above I had the speed +rev limiter removed, slip on exhaust with the ecu remapped and do triple digits daily maybe that’s why idk but at the end of the day it is what it is🤷🏾♂️
+1. 14k miles on my '13 Speed3R. Talking to my bike dealer today. told him I want a new bike, kinda feel the urge, but There Is No Better Bike that has ever been made. '16+ has ride by wire and electronic nannies i prefer to avoid. I came to it from a $23k Multistrada. Thought I couldn't tour on a naked. Wrong. It's been all over. tolerable to ride to the mountains and better than the ducati once it gets there. Commutes fine. Looks awesome. Arrows sound incredible. never overheats in Texas summer. Romps at track days. Never once has failed me. Aside from maintenance I've replaced one relay in 14k miles. 4 bikes in my garage but the Triumph is parked by the door. I do admire the Yamaha now that they seem to have kinda fixed the suspension, but this guy is (how to say politely?) a bit inexperienced. He's a Harley guy, can barely ride, just trying to build his subscriber base.
The only thing this bike has in common with a Street3 in the number of cylinders other than that the Triumph's are in every way a better bike but and I say but much much more expansive because of all the tech and extra's Triumph has put on the bikes.
I wish you would do a review of Kawasaki Z900RS. Similar specs to XSR900. The Kawasaki looks, sound and performance reflect high quality and attention to detail. A total blast to ride, and a worthy tribute to the iconic Z1 from the 1970’s.
The 2022 xsr900 is even more of a beauty... I'm torn between the rear end looks but looking at at more n more I like it... grown to like it... cant wait for someone to do a ride review... with an exhaust fitted cuz that seems like all it needs from factory...
I liked the look on this bike. But when I test rode it last fall, the suspension beat me up. The MT-09 had a better ride, but it was ugly. Still I'd probably go with the XSR and just get the suspension redone. That pipe sounds great on video.
Budget suspension on bikes like these are always a compromise, the best thing anyone can do to their bike, before the noisy pipes, and the cheap anodised crap a lot of guys like to put on their bikes, is get a good shock with a spring for your weight, and the forks setup the same.
@@uhtred7860 You are right, suspension is important. Ok, so I bought a used 2018 XSR900 and it did beat the crap out of me. It also didn't really fit how I ride (which is usually trips). So I sold it. Then in Jan 2022, I purchased a MT-09 SP. The SP means it comes with better suspension. Still not a trip bike, but I also purchased a toy hauler RV so I didn't need a trip bike as much. I can do day rides from the RV.
There’s a Roland Sands design attribution. I think it’s the headlight brackets and metalworks with the circles. I do love that bike but chose the CB1000R over it for the more modern look of the CB. That’s a bike you’d love, Sean
it looks good cause its stance is Monsterish. i have a 750M, sexy, sexy, sexy, hand assembled art on wheels, sounds mean... the bike hes reviewing looks yummy and would kick the crap oughta mine
I like the hazards after taking off traction control. Nothing worse than thinking you're awesome on a bike and finding out you've been running a blinker for the last 5 minutes.
I like the format change! A bit more walk around, words of wisdom big and bold! I watch these even if I'm not necessarily interested in owning the bike...
I got one and i don't think anyone ever notices it style wise.... i think yamaha are going to have to come up with something more exciting than a round headlight and a round tail light . the guys in the style department need to go back to school ..... it rides nice (after i spent a fortune on a shock ),steers nice ,stops nice, all in all not a bad bike
I have to disagree with the comment about he bar end mirrors don't work as well. Imo they work much better and i don't see my elbows as much. To each their own, whatever works best for you! This XSR900 is pretty nice, and think i prefer it over the MT-09. Around here i see MT-09's everywhere, however i never seen a XSR900 on the road before.
I love the xsr styling. The fz/mt is cool but it doesn't stand out in my mind. I want an xsr900 but that 900cc triple is a beast and the 700 might be more fun as a lighter, hooligan cafe racer. I would have a hard time deciding. Imagine if you had to pick between a camaro with a ton of power, or an s2000/miata that you could treat like a go kart.
I want this bike but I’m a beginner so don’t wanna risk it. Gonna settle first with a cheaper Ducati 600 from 90s. Thanks for the video. This will definitely be something to attain.
What would it be like to put dual sport tires on that bike and use it for basic back country travel(dirt, mildly rocky roads at times)? I’m not trying to jump off cliffs or do stunts, I just want a versatile commuter/joyride-machine.
@@timellis4214 Had one for a while now, and it's still fun. Maybe a bit silent with the stock exhaust, and it might have been good to have a little bit more underseat storage, bit this thing rides like crazy
So have I. Amazing engine, good build quality, popped a power wheelie on the test ride. Love it. Also, in B mode it's docile enough if you have some common sense and experience. It can cruise all day if you want it to, and still be an absolute blast to hoon around. Only major downside is the stock seat, that I swapped for Yamaha's ultra suede seat which is a lot more comfortable.
@@timellis4214 I agree with some of the other comments. It's super fun, power is manageable but it will wheelie if you want it too. The stock exhaust is dead silent. My riding buddies joke that it sounds like kitten's. Lol It does have some grunt in the sound but the stock exhaust definitely needs changed. Other than that it's a good bike overall. I picked up new old stock one for pretty cheap about $2500 less than sticker.

@@Scowguy Different models. First gen bike had detuned original R1 engine with carbs and later model used 2004 R1 motor in a detuned state, which did not work out well. It used FI too and in its early days had very snatchy on or of off throttle response. Horrible. I owned three first Gens and they have a much nicer motor with far better torque in the lower ranges. They respond extremely well to a good quality after exhaust combined with a good jet kit like Ivans or Performance pro. I still have a last edition 2005 in gorgeous dark red and black combo ( Not sold in the US ), and properly tricked up.
Lovin' that Bass note from the exhaust at idle Sean.... So an Mgp Growler, eh? $700 smackers ... wow..pricey! Looks like the welding done was way to hot on the pipes, but then maybe that's the new look?
Generally the more power a bike has the easier it is to control wheelies. You don't have to be close to the balance point to be able to keep the front wheel up. A bike with a surplus of power will bring the front wheel up nice and evenly under hard acceleration. Plus you can wheelie in a higher gear, so things don't happen as quickly.
How does it compare to a Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe? I have a 2019 Z900RS Cafe and it's a wheelie machine I noticed you didn't do any wheelies on the Yamaha.

Great points
Looking for something after getting rid of my Daytona 675, this meets the power, but the torque is bonkers! So right now I'm torn between the XSR700 and the new Triumph Trident 660
Sounded plastic to me.
Nice, but what’s the difference just because it doesn’t have fairings that too much power ???
Man I really need to get my hands on one of those. I had my heart set on an mt09 but now I think I prefer the xsr900
Nice video.
You replace the rotor?
@@mobleyMobley the rotor? The brake rotors? No. Not really sure what you mean. I replaced the sprockets.
@@merc6 stator rotor, they lose magnets and damage engine.
With B mode and traction control on 2 this thing is super smooth. Bought one as my second motorcycle after a KTM390 and have put crazy miles on it. It’s a fire breather no doubt but it is more than manageable. If you can control a throttle and the clutch you will have ZERO issue with the power.
I just picked up a 2020 with 10K on the clock as a "fun bike" supplementing my RT1200 . Its a great little motorbike with a shit ton of torque!!
I love this bike!!! I want one so bad. I can't believe it took you so long to discover it. They are so badass!!!!
King Hoffbeers bro check out the Kawasaki Z900RS looks the best out of the retro / modern style. Plus you get 100 more cc
@@samitis2437 'they' say its gutless I was really thinking about your bike... I started feeling dizzy deciding between the superbikes I turnes myself off for now

Proud owner here of the faster sons edition xsr 900. Just got it a week ago
Proud owner of a Yamaha hybusgsxrs1000 got it the other hour
Brings back memories of my '02 Street Triple... which I sold after 2 years because I was just getting too crazy on it without even thinking about it. I love the triple engine but I'll probably get the MT-07 just so I don't start doing 90mph in a 35mph zone.
Nothing beats the good old Triumph naked bike.
Fantastic bike...yamaha makes affordable quality bikes...i drive a 2017 Mt 07...and İ am happy with it....
5:23 might want to tighten that throttle cable housing....
Where is the fantastic round led rear light? Re install it NOW
I heard nothing but praise why wouldn't I want one?
click bait!
cause its not a beginner bike?
@@jjgverheijen maybe hes not a beginner though😐
@thilo Thats the only reason I heard, to dont want the bike. Not saying that ViperVenom is a beginner..
@@jjgverheijen not a beginner have about 50,000 miles under my belt 👌
Love my XSR900. Those tank side covers are aluminum. In traction control 1 you can wheelie but it won’t allow wheel slip
Just wanted to write the same thing =D
That verse is so powerful! Thanks for reminding us. Great video 👍
All that power, and it sounds like it's revving about 5700 rpms at 70mph. What the heck? What is the top gear ratio like? How smooth is the engine? These things are critically important. Thanks!
ok so i just bought one after watching this video , i think yamaha owes you money bro
great job
and i'm in love with this bike
thanks for the video
Hell yeah dude they owe him and you 3 more months for me then I'm going to get one

On a xsr 900
I love it. That's a " hey babe, I got run to the store" bike if I ever saw one.
I own one. Great bike. Two issues. Like a lot of Yamahas if your ride aggressively it burns gas like crazy. Second issue is the stupid speed limiter. It cuts power at 129mph. Paid for the limiter to be removed from the ecu and it tops out around 150 now.
I don’t know why anyone would want to go that fast on a naked...
Like I said above I had the speed +rev limiter removed, slip on exhaust with the ecu remapped and do triple digits daily maybe that’s why idk but at the end of the day it is what it is🤷🏾♂️
I do like a good challenge though. If your ever in the dmv area hit me up. I’m curious to see what your definition of “spirited” is?
Surprised no on else mentioned it but it's definitely a flatplane crankshaft
You are the reason I went out and bought the vtx!!! Thanks!!! Runs great 40000+ miles
Japanese version of my Triumph Speed Triple! Sounds great!
+1. 14k miles on my '13 Speed3R.
He's a Harley guy, can barely ride, just trying to build his subscriber base.
nope. Street Triple*. This bike aint got nothing on the speed triple. That bike has my favorite engine of all bikes ive tried.
/xsr 900 owner
The only thing this bike has in common with a Street3 in the number of cylinders other than that the Triumph's are in every way a better bike but and I say but much much more expansive because of all the tech and extra's Triumph has put on the bikes.
@@taxi615 suspension is lacking alot on the Yama too.
@@cfvgd i was talking about the mt9 lol
To someone who loves bikes but has only driven scooters, your review is really insightful. New subscriber 💪🏼
of course its the same engine as the MT-09, one of the best from yamaha. regards from Portugal

I'm 6'4-6'5 235lbs and took my buddies Yamaha for a spin . was surprised at the fit great heat height and throttle response was impressive
How does this compare to the Kawasaki Z900 RS? I rented one for 3 days and fell in love with the light crisp handling and raw power.
Wow I really under appreciated these bikes, I think I want one now
Words of wisdom: don’t talk about wheelies then not do wheelies

Amen!
I'm surprised you didn't compare it to the Kawasaki z900rs...
Which one is the all-around better bike?
@@91k75s it's down to preference. Kawi has a bigger gas tank for longer ride range but it weighs more. They are close to same hp. Like 5hp difference
Lot of people are tired of inline 4. If you want a different engine go with the Yamaha 3 cylinder. Or get a Ducati Monster.
@Kyle Ignaitis you really stole my words ❤️
very weak and weight and very fat
I wish you would do a review of Kawasaki Z900RS. Similar specs to XSR900. The Kawasaki looks, sound and performance reflect high quality and attention to detail. A total blast to ride, and a worthy tribute to the iconic Z1 from the 1970’s.
The 2022 xsr900 is even more of a beauty... I'm torn between the rear end looks but looking at at more n more I like it... grown to like it... cant wait for someone to do a ride review... with an exhaust fitted cuz that seems like all it needs from factory...
one of the best looking bikes too, it looks more "neo-retro" and beautiful than CB1000R.
I have an fz07 and I love this bikes looks. Probably gonna be my upgrade later on.
same here
I liked the look on this bike.
What happened to Yamaha virago ? I just saved enough to finally afford one, now they seem to be off the markets world wide.
It reminds me a bit of the old RD350LC from the 80s
There's a company that makes a body kit for the XSR900 to make it look like the RD350LC
Man I love your test ride videos. I’ll be buying a bike from y’all very soon
awesome thanks
something about this bike looks amazing, I used to really want the ducati monster but this may be the new one (with better reliability and price)
it looks good cause its stance is Monsterish. i have a 750M, sexy, sexy, sexy, hand assembled art on wheels, sounds mean... the bike hes reviewing looks yummy and would kick the crap oughta mine
This bike in classic Yamaha Black & Yellow is the best looking Yamaha since the RZ350 KR edition. Gotta get one!
Is it available in the Kenny Roberts Livery?
I like the hazards after taking off traction control. Nothing worse than thinking you're awesome on a bike and finding out you've been running a blinker for the last 5 minutes.
I like the format change! A bit more walk around, words of wisdom big and bold! I watch these even if I'm not necessarily interested in owning the bike...
Neal Mayborn ur not alone, i like the videos even though i don’t have any intention of even owning a bike
Liked it for the words of wisdom, and of course the fantastic review. Cheers
Mate would you put this above an fz1?
Love the jeans color of the tank! Gonna to buy it for sure this year ...
I have mt09 with the GYTR quickshifter, transform this bike to more fun xD
Does it quickshift both up and down or just down

I want this bike but I’m a beginner so don’t wanna risk it. Gonna settle first with a cheaper Ducati 600 from 90s. Thanks for the video. This will definitely be something to attain.
What would it be like to put dual sport tires on that bike and use it for basic back country travel(dirt, mildly rocky roads at times)? I’m not trying to jump off cliffs or do stunts, I just want a versatile commuter/joyride-machine.
Great video, but you are wrong on one thing:

I recently purchased an XSR900, it's a hoot.
Thinking of getting one too.
What do you think to it so far?
I've had one a couple years. Great engine and looks, get new pipe. Only negative is fuelling a bit jumpy around town at slow speeds
Dude, you had TCS on the highest setting... that's why the bike didn't wheelie at the beginning of the ride... it was TCS cutting power to keep the wheel down. Braap braap braap... scared the crap out of me the first time mine did it!
My last two bikes were a v-Max and a MT-01, how does this compare to those? Would I get bored of the XSR900 comparing it to these?
I love the Yamaha 900s. I prefer the looks of the MT-09 though. Ride safe.
Bike sounds amazing. Reminds me of my FZ1, which I miss a lot.
Lol.. Im looking for an 2007-09 FZ1.. Love the blue-gold look and cant wait to get it
Except the FZ1 was 145 hp. I had an ‘01 and it was a great bike. My son owns it now and it’s still a great bike.
Thanks for the video! I wanted a r6 again... but I think this might be the better option for me now.
Lovin' that Bass note from the exhaust at idle Sean.... So an Mgp Growler, eh? $700 smackers ... wow..pricey! Looks like the welding done was way to hot on the pipes, but then maybe that's the new look?
When you twist the throttle around 5:24 did you notice it was loose? Looks like the throttle assembly twists.
8:57 says hes gonna wheelie but cuts the clip 😂
I'm still waiting for a reason on why I don't want one
I love the the format of your videos keep up the good work!!!
I love how you stick to the words of wisdom. God bless
How that guy can stop from hooning around on this video is beyond me. Probably the local cops watch the vids.
Sean can you do a video on the 2019 Husqvarna 701? I'm considering selling my Harley and buying one.
great idea i cant try to arrange that, those bikes look like a blast to ride

Curious why you use the clutch to up shift? I noticed it a while back and found it odd. Never seen anyone use a cutch to go up in gears.
Every reason he listed is why I’m looking at swapping to this bike, and service availability, on a 23FTR note but we are losing our local dealer.
